The new grass fed wagu beef burgers are the best I've had since moving here in 2009. Now we move on to the thin cut French fries fried in beef tallow that were outstanding and once again healthier than greasy corn oil fries. We ordered at the store and got our food in about 10 minutes. We don't go out for burgers very much but will be coming here when we crave one. Great job !!! read more

We were out running errands and decided to grab something we hadn't had in a while. I originally planned to order through the app, but after repeatedly getting an error message, I gave up and decided to place the order at the restaurant instead. When we got to the drive-thru, the staff greeted us and politely asked us to wait about two minutes before taking our order. We ordered two Garlic Double Steak Burgers, one with fries and the other with tots. One thing that was a little disappointing was that the total cost was noticeably higher ordering at the drive-thru than it would have been through the app. While I understand the app may offer special deals, the price difference definitely stood out. That said, the staff was friendly and professional, and the food was fresh and tasty. Overall, it was a good experience, just a little more expensive than expected. read more

This place has become a shell of its former self. They got rid of the salads and portobello burgers. The only thing left on the menu is burgers, fries, and shakes. No service: you order and pay at a kiosk. At least the ambiance is unchanged. read more

Despite the low sanitation rating, the meal was actually pretty good. I got the #2 single cheeseburger and fries with bottled water. The water was Dasani brand and it was ice cold as it was handed to me. The burger was hot and topped with onions and pickles. It was neatly prepared and I was given a good amount of napkins and Heinz ketchup. The fries were hot and neatly placed in the bag. The server was pleasant and gave me a smile. I wasn't in the drive through line long at all. I had an appointment at BestBuy in the same parking lot and was able to make my appointment on time. They weren't busy either. Only one car ahead of me. Zero complaints from me! If I'm in the area again, I'll consider coming back. read more

FOOD POISONING Visited this location for the first time FRIDAY, OCT 10th. Order was placed through the drive-thru. Employee operating the intercom demonstrated poor customer service. This should have been a red flag. Ordered the steak grilled cheese. Within several hours, experienced severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. Symptoms persisted for hours. I almost went to the hospital. Subsequent review research revealed ANOTHER customer reported the same experience. This indicates a potential FOOD SAFETY CONCERN. First visit since before COVid. Restaurant had been closed probs a couple years. Not sure when they re-opened exactly. Interior mostly unchanged, except for the big trash can catching the roof leak in the center of the dining room. Table service is gone; order at one of 4 kiosks at the counter ( counter seating is also gone). We both order burger combos, I subbed chili for fries with my Wisconsin butter burger. We both ordered milkshakes. After about 10 minutes our name was called, but only to inform me that they were out of grilled onions, and would I still like the butter? I said OK, assuming that the butter would be melted on/ in the bun. Then our shakes came out--without whipped cream, because they were out of that also. Big plus was that they were in very impressive heavy logo glasses. Only one other table, but food still took about 15 minutes to come out. Cheese on burger was not melted, and burgers were not very warm. Fortunately I lifted the top bun on my burger to reveal 2 tablespoons of solid, unmelted butter. I was able to spoon off this excess butter before consuming. Fries were cold and soggy and tasteless. Tomatoes and lettuce were crisp and fresh. Ordered online, estimated time said 9:50. Called around 10:10 because we were worried they didn't get our order. The girl said yes she had an order for our name and the guy on the phone said they were working on it. Sit in the restaurant until 10:20. Then went around the window to say we had a pickup order. The girl said we'll I have a few cars in front of you so just park and come in....still wasn't ready at 10:33, had someone finally ask what I was waiting on. First visit was great! Needed someplace to eat on New Years Eve as the family was out of town. Awesome food, great shake, excellent service! Second visit though, my burger (double with onions and mustard) had nothing but garlic something sauce and a SUPER salty bun. It's a menu item but not the one I ordered. Also, got chili cheese fries with onions that had no onions and were...upside down is the only way I can explain it. Like the chili and cheese were poured into the plate then fries added on top. Dump! Dump! Dump! The service was terrible, the place was so dirty I wouldn't let my dog take a s-it in there. The food was mediocre at best and I just couldn't believe how they let this place go. The female manager was nice, but the owner was unpleasant and detached. A health inspector needs to come in here and close them down. I always wondered why people eat in the parking lot of this place. I now know why. Service for those that order at drive through are priority whereas those who dine-in are secondary. Albeit slow, those who serve you are super cordial! Keep in mind it's not their fault that your food comes so slowly, but I seriously believe they serve those in drive-thru first. I usually get the mushroom swiss melt. It is what it sounds like. Greasy decently tasty melt chock full of grilled mushrooms and melted swiss. The fries are the shoestring variety. Oy. Went tonight for dinner, thought we'd enjoy the 'Kids Eat Free' ooption but it soooo was not worth the hassle. My only consistent complaint w/this place is they never have enough servers. Yeah, the burgers are good and the kids eat free but the pee poor service has reached new levels of disappointing. BBefore it was a bit inconvenient or hit/miss. Tonight ensures we won't be back for a while. We were out of ketchup, had to get up and find some because after taking our order, the waitress NEVER returned (manager brought our food.) The side dishes were forgotten. Nobody ever stopped by to ask if our meal was okay or if we needed anything. Never got refills. Asked for check, nada. The floors were dirty. We waited SO long for drink refill and check w/my son's to-go dessert that I got up and waited at the cashier while my husband took kids to car. When waitress finally brought the to-go she forgot- AGAIN- the check! Hostess had to look it up for us. For the first time in 12 years, this former waitress did not leave a tip. Yep. It was THAT bad. I remember when the area first got a Steak 'n Shake, which was at Concord Mills. Then Mooresville got one & I was pretty excited. Now... I guess as you get older your tastes change. Their milkshakes are heavenly & I didn't feel so bad eating the thin "steakburgers." I'm a fan of their skinny fries, too. In saying this, I haven't had Steak 'n Shake in years...we're talking 5 or 6? While I was in Mooresville today, I wanted Portifiono's delicious Philly Cheesesteak - to my dismay, they closed! I was in utter sadness. Steak 'n Shake was close by & since I haven't had them in a while, I thought I'd try them. It was 1:30 & they weren't busy, so I was able to drive up directly to the drive-thru. They had a huge picture for this "jalapeño crunch" steak burger (Pepperjack cheese, fresh salsa, sliced jalapeños, crispy fried onions and chipotle mayo), & I looove jalapeños, so I figured I'd try it. The girl over the speaker was pleasant & repeated my order back to me for accuracy. I pulled around to the window & she already had my drink ready & within a few seconds handed me my bag. I really like that the fries came in a "cup holder" type paper container. The fries were hot & lightly salted, but were a mixture of overcooked & "just right" fries. I didn't finish the whole container. Thankfully, the burger was neat inside of the paper wrapper, so I was able to eat it while driving, as well. Between the spicy salsa, the chiptole mayo, & the jalapeños, I felt like I ate an entire jar of jalapeños! It was really spicy! It was pretty good, I ended up eating all of the burger. My Coke was in a very large cup, which made me feel like such a fat kid with all that food & large drink (makes me thankful I don't do fast food too often!). The movie "Wall-e" comes to mind! The meal cost me $6.39, which I felt was a bit pricey. Their prices are comparable to other fast food places, combos run over $5.00. For the price you pay at Chili's or Red Robin you can get three meals at Steak N Shake in half the time. But I don't recommend the onion rings. They came LOADED with a brown colored oil. Scary. Do not order doordash or any delivery from them. As someone who works in fast food myself and understands how the third party delivery process works, i was thoroughly disappointed. I was missing my fries and drink from my order, which is ok because things happen i get it. So I called and the manager did not have a friendly tone with me at all for one, and two the phone kept cutting out and she gave me attitude and hung up. I called back and explained my problem and even offered to come pick the order up myself because i know that doordash support sucks and getting another driver sent out for missing items takes forever, but she immediately told me that they can't do anything and i have to call doordash. Which i know is not the case as i wasn't even asking for redelivery and i wanted to pick it up myself, which i know could have easily been done by the store especially just for fries and a drink. After an hour long call with doordash support, i still could not get a redelivery or my food in general but at least i got my money back i guess. So just take my word and don't bother ordering delivery, just spend the gas and go there. What a great first experience for someone who just moved here too read more

Every time my family and I go to this Steak and Shake, it's like playing the waiting game. You wait forever to be seated. You wait forever for drink orders. You wait forever for food orders and so on and so forth. At our last time here, nearly 45 minutes passed with no food order. We all left and went to the Red Robin next door. The waiters are typically nice and friendly, but are pretty much useless because of poor management. I've never had a problem with the food here, but I'd much rather drive all the way to the Steak and Shake in Concord. Sure, it's a bit of a drive, but I've had a much nicer experience there. Love this place, but it's like pulling teeth going through the drive-thru. Many items are not on the outside menu and it's very difficult to order when the person taking the order can't reference their own menu. Yikes.
