Just go somewhere else. We hadn't been here since before covid. Back then we loved this place. Since then, the bean counters have wrecked it. You get your food with zero human contact or service. Order only through a kiosk. Stripped down food menu, only burgers, chili and fries. Used to have servers, real China, silverware, and Coke in a glass. Now it's serve yourself and all disposables. You have to scan your receipt QR code to turn on the drink machine. Restrooms were disgustingly filthy, so I can only assume the kitchen is, too. Food was OK, portions were decent. Overall, Steak and Shake seems to be circling the drain. Very sad. read more

Drive thru not working? How does a drive thru not work? Went inside to order & it was chaotic & absolutely unorganized. One girl took my order at the counter, but couldn't cash me out. She told the next girl to cash me out. When I handed her my gift card she said I'd have to step over to the cash register. There were at least 8 ppl in a family standing in front of the register. How was I to get through them? The cook apologized that it took so long because she had to go to the back to get another pan of prime burger patties. First of all, when I ordered it was very clear how my experience was going to go, but I still maintain a positive attitude, hoping to cheer up the person on the other side of the ordering microphone. This place is horrible!!!! My son and I went in for dinner tonight, place wasn't even that busy. We stood for over 10 minutes waiting to be seated and were not even acknowledged. Finally I approached the counter and asked to be seated, I was rudely told I would have to wait. What a pleasant surprise to see a new item at Steak and Shake. The soft flour taco is not just a reconstructed breakfast burrito, it's actually well seasoned and pretty tasty! It's reasonably priced at .99 cents, but truthfully it could go for about .89 cents. Anyway, if your traveling and need a break from the other burger joint's breakfast, give this a try. I'm not an impatient person and I would prefer that they take their time to present a quality product - which they did today. I really love steak and shake. Don't get me wrong, that's why I'm so heavily disappointed by this place in particular. I work hard for my money, I know nobody's perfect and fast food is a difficult industry. So a few mistakes here and there are ok. But I'm not exaggerating, literally every single time I come here they mess up my food. I want a western BBQ & Bacon without raw onion. In the 7 times I have eaten here, they have not got that correct one time. They always put raw onions on the burger. I don't expect perfection, but 7 times in a row? That's a bit ridiculous. The food is good and if you want a milkshake this is a good place to patronize. The prices are very reasonable, but it is typically at least an hour by the time you walk in the door until you are finished, so never be in a hurry here. If you have coupons, they sometimes have problems getting them to ring up right. I am not sure what the manager's name is, but he is very rude. Steak and Shake has always been a favorite for my wife and I. The Marion location is convenient for us and we look forward to stopping there. However, this last visit was not good. We had a good view of the grill area, not a good thing. The area was dirty and cluttered. We each had a sandwich, steak burger of course and a shake. The server was nice enough to get a cherry shake for me, not on the menu. Our visit was Friday April 13th. Perhaps an omen. By Sunday afternoon we were both sick. Both of us sick at same time, same sickness ( I won't describe) hardly a coincidence. Needless to say sadly Steak and Shake in Marion is off our list. We truly regret this. PS.
