Haven't been to steak'n shake in years, and really was turned off by this visit. First off, no one greeted us when we walked in. I was with friends and one never had steak'n shake and the other one was like me...it had been a while. I didn't realize that you have to order on a kiosk, no one said anything. I decided to sign up for rewards (something I always check for before ordering) so I downloaded the app and ordered from there. My friends used the kiosk, it seemed user friendly, but it would have been nice for anyone to speak to us. Ordering on the app wasn't bad, it said my food would be ready in 4-9 minutes. My friends got their food very quickly. Their food was nice and hot. We didn't realize that getting your drink after ordering from the kiosk, you have to get your receipt and use the QR code to scan at the machine to receive your cup, some direction on that would have been nice. As for my food, about 20 minutes passed and I still didn't hear anything. The app doesn't have a tracker, but I made sure I ordered it at the right location and for pick up which it was all correct. I had to go to the counter, got a man's attention that was working, and he asked for my name. He then went to the back and I heard them talking. Several minutes later, a lady came out with my food and drink. I asked if it had been ready and she said yes, so I asked how was I supposed to know and she just shrugged her shoulders not saying anything. I was very upset, but so hungry. I told her how my food would now be cold and she just walked away. I went to the counter to get ketchup and she appeared behind that counter saying I'm sorry. As for customer service I would give 0 stars if I could. Of course my food was cold. I ordered the garlic single steak burger combo, it tasted ok, but I was starving. My fries tasted old and were not fresh. I wasn't satisfied. I noticed after signing up for rewards I received a free milkshake offer. They also sent a survey to my email (of course I filled it out) and for completing it, you get free fries. These will come in handy, probably for my kids. The ambiance remains the same as I remember from a long time ago, classic dinner vibes with black/white tiles, and retro themed red/black booths and tables. read more

Every time I go here it's an inconvenience For them , last time they tried to charge me a whole extra chili because they "couldn't" give me one extra cracker packet, now I order a combo and they forget fries and , we ordered a medium onion ring and they literally gave us 4 onion rings . Why have a rewards program when it DOES NOT WORK!! The last four times I've been through, it didn't work at the register. I tried the code and couldn't recognize it. Most of the time service is ok. The lady today had fake nails long enough to be claws. I don't like the feel of another person's nails in my hand while exchanging money. They actually gave me raw chicken strips raw not even a little cooked it was hot on the outside straight raw in the inside I will post picture I went back to complain and they snubbed their noses at me and refused to make it right refused to refund my money and told me to leave the Restuarant their customer service is appalling they were happy to take my food back but not give back my money or offer to exchange the raw food for something cooked nothing not even a milkshake offer I honestly wanted to smack the tar out of the manager and the rude waitress who decided to stick her nose in it . I placed a mobile order for pickup and that was super easy. The food was okay. Nothing great, nothing bad. However, the service was not good at all. I walked in and wasn't greeted at all. I waited a moment and then told someone up front that I was there for a pickup order. A quick response of "name?" and then nothing after that. After a few moments, the manager on duty (I think) brought me a bag and said "Here ya go". That's it. The bag was all greasy on the bottom so I had to put it on the floor of the car because I didn't want the grease to stain my seats. read more

This place was awful when I was in high school and it has not improved in 20 years. The service is still slow with serious attitude. And the food is not good and not cooked to order. My hash browns were dripping in grease/butter to the point I had to towel them off before eating them. My mother asked for hash browns and bacon well done. They came back pale and barely cooked. Her scrambled eggs, meanwhile, were a toasty brown. My father's poached eggs came out as fried eggs. Mom asked for a coffee refill twice and I finally had to get up and get someone for her. The restaurant was not busy and there were an abundance of servicers. When I paid, the cashier asked me how the meal was. I told it her it wasn't great and not cooked to order. This restaurant closed down, changed ownership and.... what a difference! It is now a S&S I would recommend to anyone. Service is faster. Orders come complete without mistakes. Food quality is excellent. In the past, the fries tended to be undercooked. Not any more. We've been back at least a half dozen times since the re-opening and will continue to do so. This Steak 'n Shake is absolutely THE BEST out of all the other surrounding Steak 'n Shakes! I believe this location is the best managed, has the best and fastest service, and is the cleanest. The waiters/waitresses definitely do not keep you waiting for your food and they're always refilling your drinks without having to ask! The other great thing about this location is that they still make your drinks with the real vanilla or cherry syrup instead of using those new Coke machines that some of the other Steak 'n Shakes have converted to. Went through the drive thru at about 6:40am and there wasn't anyone at this location except a little old lady. She was very nice but couldn't help us. She said she was the cook and no one was there who knew how to work the registers. Said the guy that worked the registers decided he wanted to go home early and just left. The worst part is that it has happened just about every day this week. So from about 6am to 7am it closes down and those are prime breakfast hours. The management staff at that location needs to fix this situation ASAP!!! read more

I worked at this restaurant 37 years ago and the managers I had would have fired most of these employees. The only people who did their jobs were the grill man and the person making the milkshake. I sat for almost 30 minutes before I was forced to hunt someone down to find out what happened to my order, turned out the grill cook had made it and put it up on the salamander 2 minutes after I ordered it and it sat there, untouched, for nearly 30 minutes. None of the employees could be bothered to see that it was there and give it to me. They were all too busy congregating in the back of the store and chatting. Horrific service. The only reason I'm not giving one star is the poor grill guy was doing his job and made what I'm sure was a good burger before it sat under the heat lamp for half an hour. Unbelievably horrible drive-thru service they messed up the sandwich order and then instead of making a new nicely prepared sandwich they open it up and just stopped stuff into it and then when I asked for a refund I got lip service and indignation I am shocked at the horrible horrible professionalism that is in Steak and Shake and finally the manager came to the window and she was horribly rude total lack of training I would strongly recommend driving by this steak and shake and look for another one read more

Sunday, 4/17/16 at 1:45 p.m. used the drive-thru at this location. Ordered a Turkey Club sandwich (lightly toasted and no lettuce). Both pieces of toast were BURNT. And, there was no bacon on the club. I did not go back to the restaurant because it was out of my way and would have been a waste of time and money to do so. I have complained before about problems and nothing seems to change despite upper management feinting to care with their form letter responses. I am so sick of paying for shabby, sub par service. I find Steak 'n Shake to be like many chain restaurants; some are outstanding and others leave a lot to be desired. This particular location is one that is consistently good. I've had a few times when I felt like I wasn't given as great of service as others, but I always find that to be the restaurant's fault (under staffing) rather than the server. I have never - repeat never - had a bad meal here. There are some meals that are better than others, but they are consistently good, the right temperature, fresh, and delicious. Their shakes are top-notch. If you like Steak 'n Shake, I recommend this location. I saw other reviewers comment on what they got through the drive-thru. I say to that Steak 'n Shake is a restaurant who makes their food per order. It isn't really a place that was mean to have a drive-thru. You'd be better off to get out of your, go inside, and get your food. You can even place the order and go back to your car while they make it. If you want consistently good burgers, fries, shakes, and salads this is a good place to go. read more

Worst service I have ever had this location. We walked in and nobody ever even acknowledged us when we walked in. They weren't even that busy. Maybe 8 tables had people at them but about 14 table still dirty. Used to not be a huge fan of Steak and Shake, but this location always seems to impress. Double steakburger meal is my jam. Chili and fries as my side. Grilled onion, pickle, tomato, lettuce and mustard relish. New to Steak and Shake is their fry seasoning that is on the table, shake a bit of that on the burger and fries for a nice addition. We don't come down to this part of town often. But they need more staff in each department. Either that or start to let people pay checks from their table.
