This is a tough one. I still really like their food (taste quality reasonable value). $7 for a single w cheese combo cooked fresh with quality veggies is good price these days! However it is a totally different experience post pandemic. 100% self service from order kiosk, to pick up food and drinks on plastic picnic basket things. They even recently added a QR code on your receipt that you have to use to be able to turn on the fountain drink machine to get your drink. Like.....come on. I know the pandemic almost took them out and they seem to have returned to pre pandemic stock prices. A lot of locations have closed too. I was here for an hour over lunchtime and there were 4 total dine in tables. Total of 6 people. One pick up order and just a couple drive thru. We used to come here way more often but with kids the self service is a hassle. I don't think they even have trays. Kind of a sad shell of itself. :( read more

It had been years since I've been to steak 'n Shake, but my son and I thought we'd relive some memories and go have lunch. I'd like that the decor has not changed. However, now you order off a kiosk and you wait for your name to be called. I understand this is a cost saving method, but the whole diner ambience is different. We also enjoyed our lunch until my son got ill soon afterwards. The restaurant looked good, but we did get concerns about the cleanliness of things when I walked to the restroom and my shoes made that sticky sound and felt like they were sticking to the floor all the way there and back. We ordered online ahead of time and headed to the drive thru when we arrived. When we spoke to the staff member, she kindly let us know that the wait was longer at the drive thru and that if we wanted to run in for pick up, they'd have it ready, which is what we did. We got steakburgers and fries, including a kids' steakburger combo, plus chocolate shakes. Unfortunately, the cheese (extra charge) was left off the burgers. I did not see it listed anywhere. A woman who worked there made it seem like I was terribly inconveniencing her, told me that I needed to order a cheeseburger and then remove the cheese. When I heard they were coming to Columbus years ago I told everyone how great the hamburgers were. I always get the grilled chicken sandwich or spicy chicken sandwich when my hubby and I come here. Some nights can be slammed when all the kids from Dublin drive here at night for a late night meal. They book huge tables making it hard for couples of 2 to get a good table but most nights you can get a good booth to sit at and eat your meal in peace. When hubby and I are on a budget Steak 'n Shake on Sawmill Road fits our hunger needs. It fills us up for less money. read more

I wonder what you guys do to employees who are rude and disrespectful. No manager should have that huge of a position to be rude to their customers. I came through the drive-thru on Monday at 9:45 pm. My daughter likes to order her meals when we eat out. It is fun for her and she enjoys it. I was informed by the speaker that it would be a moment because of how long the line was. It was midnight and there were no complaints, so we waited about 2 minutes to order our food. Nothing horrible. Then we got to the window and the cashier was rude to my daughter when she asked for a shake at the window. She had forgotten to get a drink which is fine, everyone does, but to tell my child to her face that she should've ordered it at the menu then slam the door in her face whilst walking away??? I can understand being busy and stressed, but being disgusting to a child is out of my mind and shocking to me. I asked if he was a manager, cause I noticed he wasn't wearing a black and white uniform such as everyone else. He answered yes and said to pull up to the curb for my chicken, so I did. I looked back to see my daughter bawling her eyes out. I'll never come back to this location again. They all need some fresh training in customer service. This is unacceptable. I don't know how to feel about it completely just yet. All I know is that you'll never get far with managers like this; it's just horrible. As a father, I try to teach my daughter that respect is earned, not just given to you. I'm not sure if that guy was having a bad day from the start, but I don't condone disrespect towards children. It's wrong. She never got her shake, and they forgot her chicken, my wife's double as well as my Coke. I didn't even go back to get a refund or the rest of the food. I have not been to any Steak n Shake in about 7 years until Jan 9, 2023. I didn't go because of the service even pre-COVID. In the NE Ohio locations, we waited for over 1.5 hrs and never got our food. One waitress was so upset with people complaining that she was crying uncontrollably. That happened a few other times with terrible service. We moved to the Columbus area in 2017. On Jan 9 I decided to try again. I signed up for the Rewards program and downloaded the APP. I saw an offer to get a free shake if you signed up. The Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough shake was delicious and it came out pretty quickly. Then 3 days later on Jan 12th, I went inside to eat. I ordered at the Kiosk and in no time the food was ready. I accidentally order 2 orders of fries and the manager took the 2nd order off my bill. Great service, great food and friendly staff. I know a lot of people are unhappy with no wait service and having to order from the App or Kiosk. That is the way things are today with the difficulty in getting people to work. This was by far one of the worst locations even as recent as two years ago but what a great experience today! They've been closed so I'm not sure if ownership or management changed but thank you for making the change. The young man in drive through was so very polite and genuine, the food was hot and fresh, and they finally brought back chicken fingers (my daughters favorite)! Now when arriving you need to place your order at a kiosk and your number is called when your order is ready. Our last couple of visits our food has been good but the shakes take forever and when you receive them they are so thick you can not drink them. I don't like to spoon my milkshake, if I did I would go to Wendy's. I don't know if their machine needs work or the person making them a little training. My husband had some gift cards and we figured we would come here with our kids for a treat. I have to admit that I was pretty nervous about coming here because of the recent negative reviews, however, I was super pleased and surprised with how great the experience was and also how packed the restaurant was. I am guessing the rating is low because the people that fill the place don't get on yelp to review things, so I figured I would. I haven't been to Steak n Shake in forever, but on our way home from the zoo we wanted something quick and easy so we stopped in to Steak n Shake. Our food was very good! And the service was quick! We had our food probably within 5 minutes and our shakes came out right after the food. I had the double cheeseburger (cuz i can't go to Steak n Shake and not get a burger) and the cheese fries (YUM!). My gf had the chicken fingers (which I made fun of her for but I tried one and they're some darn good chicken fingers!) We both had a shake, she got the junior and I got the regular. I definitely should have followed suit on the junior shake as the regular is a lot of milkshake. Well, i usually don't write reviews but i wish i would have read the ones before i ordered. I placed an order online, the subtotal was $26.80, but i was charged $32+. I asked the manager why this was and he wouldn't give me a real answer. I asked to have my order cancelled and i would re place the order. He said he can't do that and i need to figure out how to cancel the order myself. Well, they got me because they already took the money from my account.
