This place is clean and the staff are nice enough. The cheese fries are delicious and the beef tallow fries have a delicious flavor and taste great even cold. The garlic steak burger is the perfect amount of garlic but my only issue is the milkshakes .. they simplified the menu and got rid of chocolate banana which was my favorite and the patty melt but otherwise a delicious fast lunch or dinner ready in 10 minutes. I hadn't been to a Steak n Shake in ages! Really wanted one of their milkshakes though so stopped by with some friends! The building is clean and had kiosks from which you order and sit until they call that your order is ready. There are only two kiosks (which was fine there were only a couple other people in the building) so you should probably have an idea of what you want when you come in - always tricky with their expansive list of milkshakes! The food was ready quickly and we were able to enjoy the rest of our time. I will say the fries were hot when I got them but cooled off quickly (might be nature if the thin fries) and the medium fries serving didn't look very different from the small fries. Yeah it reopened. Ok so maybe not a yeah. They only do carry out so I will always check for napkins and NO NAPKINS! The fries were room temp like they had been sitting or made a head of time and the burger was not what I so remembered and was mouth watering ready for. It was just dry. Nothing exciting about it all I can say is dry. Would I be back, NO. There are way to many good burgers to choose from. The service may not have been really great before but if you are going to change order entry to avoid service issues you better have a great Steak and Shake Burger and what I had was not that. And did I mention no napkin at a drive through???? I used my app and called the store and will say everyone I spoke to was pleasant and great. Very sad to write this poor review. We just moved back from our West and haven't had Steak N Shake for over 4 years, but sadly the food was mediocre at best. The meat was well cooked and tasted okay, but my bun had weird spots on it that made me feel that it could be not fresh. I threw that away before eating. Service was also not great. When all the Steak 'n Shake restaurants closed a couple years ago, I was bummed. Their crispy hamburgers ("steakburgers,") with fresh toppings and thick onion rings were my favorite fast food. When I found out the Oakley location recently re-opened under franchise (just for drive-thru service) I was ready for my favorite fast food meal. The drive thru line was long, as to be expected, taking about 20 minutes. (The website isn't set up for ordering ahead.) The food was as I remembered it. My double steakburger with cheese, just the right amount of crispy and greasy with crunchy pickle, tomato, and onion and the right amount of mayo; the onion rings, golden. The only difference was really large, bulky hamburger buns that took away from the flavor of the rest of the burger. A small thing, but it changed the experience. Overall, the menu is pretty much the same: single, double, triple burgers; lots of milkshakes, the Frisco melt, chicken fingers, steak franks, chili, and the iconic matchstick fries. There was less variety offered in the gourmet burger line (Western BBQ, Double Garlic, Double Butter and Royale available) and they no longer offer baked beans. The longest waiting drive thru line I have ever been apart of. There is not a single fast food place that has punted as bad as Steak 'n Shake. I'm only giving it a 2 star because I will always love the food here. My guess is they don't actually have any food prepared, they get your order and then they start making it. I Doordashed an order. Fifty bucks for two people and when the food arrived half of it was missing. HALF OF THE ORDER WAS MISSING!! the rest of it was hard as roaches and cold. I live 3.5 miles away. so it shouldn't have been. Doordash only refunded me $16.84 out of $50 for the missing items. I couldn't even eat. I drove up to the corner store to get a can of soap because the food was inedible. We never received silverware so I burnt my fingers trying to pull apart my daughter's scorching hot chicken fingers. We never received refills. I placed my order specifically with intent to use a coupon and the server was upset when I showed her my coupon and she rung it in wrong. I am a member of the e-club. I was very excited to get an email coupon for a free double steakburger with cheese and fries. My birthday is in February. After working a long day I opted to do a carry out order. The burger was made fresh to order with onion, pickles, mustard, ketchup and tomato on it. Less than 5 minutes later I had my order to go. About 10 minutes later I was home. The steakburger was good but he bun did not hold up to the toppings. It had become soggy. The toppings created a tasty explosion in my mouth. The fries were crispy, appropriately salty and thin cut. This was a good, quick and easy meal but next time I would remember not to get the bun. I just don't know what it is about this place... It's really hit or miss on the service. The food, as always, is decent. It's fresh, they don't really screw it up, it's typical Steak n Shake fare. The people here.. are just... out of it? off beat? I'm not really sure. I mean don't get me wrong, most are friendly. Most just seem like they don't care. Mainly the management. The last time I was in here, one poor guy was having an issue with the register with a line backing up like crazy, so another one finally stepped in to help on the other one, and the manager brings the phone to him and tells him to take an order over the phone, looking at the line in almost disgust then walking away to the very back of the place. Not to help, nothing. There were plenty of people working that night too for not as many patrons. And the riff raff/drunks that tend to hang out around the area aren't the greatest. The main selling point for this Steak 'n Shake is that it's open super late. Other than that, it's your average fast food joint. Knowing that, you'd expect them to be able to be pretty consistent during those late hours. Every time I've come in the early AM or late at night, service has been very, very slow. This really was a bad experience all around. There was only one other table when my friends and I arrived. We quickly ordered our burgers and let the server know we had a movie to get to at a certain time, and that we wanted our check early so we could leave right after eating. We never saw our server again. After our food sat in the window for 10 minutes, we paid and asked for it to be bagged up since we were out of time. Being in such a hurry, I'd forgotten my hat at the table, so we went back after the movie. I mentioned it to a different server who watched as I went to collect it (still at the table we'd been at 2 hours earlier), and she told me she was about to throw it away. They should have put it aside for when their customer came to collect it. My friends decided that we should get shakes since we were there so we started looking through the menu and I asked about the difference between a few types. It wasn't until another customer angrily asked if they were about to make us shakes when the server told us they were short staffed and not making shakes at all. Everyone at this location needs to be fired. The employees just stand around and do nothing. The first bag they handed me was totally wrong. I got a receipt with nothing on it so I know I didn't even pay the right amount. The onion rings were soggy and disgusting, they probably did not cook them correctly. I didn't realize they gave me the wrong size drink because I was more focused on them giving me the wrong food. My burger was dripping in ketchup and mustard to the point it wasn't even edible.
