I was dispointed by my sub par experience at Steak n Egg Diner yesterday afternoon. It took 35 minutes for our food to come at a table of three. The dining room was not even that busy. While we waited, their were zero check ins from our server to update us on our delayed order. When the food arrived, one person's meal was a completely different menu item than what they had ordered. My daughter had ordered a simple grilled cheese with French fries. Apparently the server misheard her order and brought her a chicken sandwich instead. I understand that mistakes happen and sometimes servers misunderstand orders. However, the server never acknowledged her mistake. In fact we never interacted with her again for the rest of our meal. Instead, I had to voice my complaint with the expeditor, and re-place the order through him. As my son and I ate our food (which was of mediocre quality) my daughter sat hungry, waiting for another 15 minutes, for A GRILLED CHEESE. During this additional wait, not a single staff member acknowledged the inconvenience or offered anything to make up for their error. When we had been at the restaurant for 45 minutes I had to flag down a totally different server to inquire about the whereabout of our grilled cheese. When at long last the grilled cheese arrived, it was placed on the table with a muttered "sorry", as the server abrubtly turned and walked away. Having worked in restaurants in my life I understand that mistakes happen, and sometimes things unexpectedly go awry. Nonetheless, I find it unprofessional and off-putting as a customer to receive such lackluster service, along with an utter inability to acknowledge a big mistake and attempt to make it right. As my daughter finished her meal no one ever came back to our table even after another long wait to deliver a check. We all had to get up from our table and stand at the host station for a while before an employee appeared to take our payment. I do not often leave reviews and I don't take lightly criticism of hardworking people, but this is a neighborhood restaurant that I will not be frequenting in the future. After waiting 45 minutes and they were not even crowded, to receive food, the food was cold, my husband order was completely wrong, they brought out half the food then the rest. This has been an institution in NW DC on Wisconsin Ave for years. Open 24/7 many of us that live here have gone from eating Steak and Eggs at 3 AM to bringing our kids and grandkids here for bfast on the weekends. The food is good diner fare. The Steak 'n Egg has now been renovated and there is new much larger space and an expanded menu. However I just had the Tennessee scramble and a stack of pancakes. The food here was delicious! Enjoyed a veggie omelette on a croissant. Went on a Friday afternoon for brunch and it was extremely busy!

I have to say that the winners here in my book are the pancakes (I got them with chocolate chips and m&m's and whipped cream). I wish the whipped cream was homemade and there was more of it but the pancakes themselves were fantastic with lots of chocolate. I tried my boyfriend's sausage, which was juicy and flavorful, as well as his toast, which was deliciously buttered. Everything everyone else in our group got looked delicious as well. Went there for a late lunch today with my wife. At other diners, we like to sit at the counter for faster service. At their counter, you look at a plastic shield and wonder who your waiter/waitress is. I'd say our grilled chicken sandwiches took a little bit too long. The sandwich was good and could have been great. It was a healthy-sized chicken breast on a brioche roll with plenty of bacon, lettuce, and tomato. I seldom leave negative reviews for restaurants, particularly ones that i love and grew up with. I was raving to some out of town guests about how wonderful this place was and had very high expectations. Unfortunately, the quality of service we received the other day was so substandard that it needs to be noted. Waiting for well over an hour after an order despite several inquiries to wait staff and host, it really was embarrassing, particularly since i hyped it up so much. I grew up in the neighborhood and used to go there when it was just the small counter (which i do miss) and so i really wanted this to work. When the order arrived, it was wrong and even though we were told very late that there was a snag in the kitchen, it would have been nice if they were a little more attentive. I am not even sure i believe the kitchen story because there was a lot of wait staff hanging around and i noticed a lot of orders were piling up on the service counter. Not to mention the fact that the kitchen is visible to the patrons and when you walk by, it looked pretty well staffed. I am very sympathetic to the travails of restaurant logistics and know from personal experience that one snag can cause a chain reaction and a long delay. I was not the only person to experience this and saw at least two walkouts (which we were tempted to do). Whether it was the kitchen or the wait staff, this was not a good experience at all. Curiously, it was not even that crowded. On the positive side, the food was quite good and lived up to my expectations although i know for a fact that we were charged for items that did not arrive. If it were not fof the quality of the food, i would give this a one star -- in fact even as good as it was, $82 for four people when two of the orders were small was hardly worth it. I can only deduce that there was a service charge tacked on to the bill which might also explain the indifferent service. I really hope that Steak and Egg diner gets its act together and either does some refresher training or some lessons learned because i do not want to see the place fail. It's too good for that -- it has been a wonderful fixture in the neighborhood and hope that it continues to be, I have not decided if i will go back. I may give another chance after awhile, but i am hoping that management takes some actions to avoid future debacles like this -- veyr bad for business. read more

Grew up in dc and came back recently, u never know how things like that from your childhood will be as an adult or if they maintain the quality u remember, etc. W covid they've switched form the inside bar seating to outdoor patio only which is very nice (big umbrellas). Had a large iced coffee and an immaculate biscuits and gravy. I'm kind of a biscuits and gravy connoisseur lmao and I'm telling u these were stellar--flaky butter biscuits, perfect tender sausage morsels, perfectly salted and rich creamy gravy. The good shit. I have had the pleasure of scarfing down steak and cheese eggs, hone fries (crispy deep fried home fries), French toast (so thick, flavorful and sweet). I would for sure recommend you stop by this place for your late night bite. Even morning time bite. I might go there for dinner one evening. Inside is a diner style row of chairs/stools that are first come first serve or you can sit outside. But if it's winter or raining that's a no go for me. 3 stars for a fine diner experience. After dropping my dog off at the vet the other morning, I was looking for a place between Tenleytown to Bethesda to grab some late breakfast. After perusing Yelp, I came across Osman & Joe's. Located off Wisconsin a few blocks from American Law, I decided to stop by and check it out. I parked my car a street over (no parking lot) and headed to the venue. I was greeted by a large Obama mural, construction (I guess they are expanding) and a cute little outside patio (with a No Dogs sign...normally I wouldn't like that, but the grill being so close to the outside makes this a logical policy). I proceeded inside to find a small diner counter (seats about 10-12) with lots of signage and the kitchen right in front of you (kind of reminded me of the counter at some Waffle Houses). While I could tell this venue makes an effort to keep everything clean, the age of the venue and enclosed quarters made it seem like an ongoing battle. I took a seat and asked for a menu. While the waitress wasn't rude, she also didn't seem terribly interested in serving me (although the cook who brought me my food was nice). I looked over the menu and was kind of surprised about the prices. This place is advertised as being pretty cheap, but most items were pretty average at best compared to other diners. For example, the famous steak and eggs dish was $18. That may be cheaper for steak than a steakhouse, but it didn't strike me as a deal worth noting. I placed my order and watched both the World Cup on tv and the cook make my order. He had everything ready for me in about 10-15 minutes. While the pricing may not have lived up to the hype, the quality of the food did. My steak was well-prepared and properly seasoned, the eggs better than normal due to being mixed with the steak juice and decent hashbrowns and toast. I felt rather satisfied in terms of both quality and getting filled up. Overall, Osman & Joe's Steak n' Egg Kitchen is a good diner. While it won't blow you away, if you are looking to grab some diner food and are in the area, this is a fine place to check out for a bite. read more

We came the first time on Mother's Day. Were were looking forward to it as the place is always packed. We ordered a veggie omelet and a vegetable potato medley. We also has toasts. The atmosphere was great. We went home and a few minutes later, my husband and I both had a running diarrhea... We swore we would not go back. Last weekend, we decided to give this local place another chance. We even took a friend for breakfast. We stayed away from the veggies of course and ordered basic dishes: two eggs, toasts, hash browns... We showed up at 9AM when the place was fairly empty. Whatever they are using to clean late at night makes the place smell like you should be washing your hands again. Let's go for that bleach mix they used in your old high school locker room that leaves it smelling musty. Aside from that, the young army of employees (shocking for a place this small and at 3am) keep this place humming along just fine. Food is hit or miss. Country fried steak looked and tasted like it had been frozen and then thrown into the microwave. Certainly saw no oil that morning, and was more reheated/dried out before being slathered with a blanket of gravy as if to hide their shamefully bad product. Tennessee Scramble was the surprise winner! Basically just classic breakfast items thrown together (eggs, peppers, sausage, bacon, cheese, butter) which to our great surprise was very good. Wear some flannel, add a black coffee, and you'd think you were coming off the night shift from the local factory. My biggest complaint is the price. This sort of food was never meant to be gourmet, and in this case, they are serving trucker food at prices that only drunk college kids could understand. read more

Sorry guys, I wish this was a positive note but unfortunately it was not. I arrived (solo) and was greeted and seated by friendly staff. I was promptly served a glass of water and then a cup of coffee. I was seated at the high counter. There were two other patrons seated at the high bar. The business was some what busy so I acknowledged that it may be some time before I see my server. Unfortunately I sat for 15 minutes, saw several staff just standing around in distant areas of the restaurant. As I was finishing my cup of joe, preparing to wrap up my time with the establishment, a server came up with a pot of coffee to refill. I was pleasantly surprised and was hopeful for redemptive service. The server asked if I needed to order, I said yes, the server then said one sec I'll have someone with you shortly. Sadly no server came to take my order. I finished my second cup, left a small tip for the services that were provided then left. For that time, I continued to observe staff not engaged in their work or willing to offer help. Frustratingly, I was just ignored. I had high hopes and really looked forward to trying the unique eateries of the DC area. Due to this experience, I regretfully have to advise patrons that beware of the service. I can't comment on the food. It looked and smelled good, but I clearly didn't get to try it. Staff was friendly enough but to be flat out ignored for almost half an hour was aggravating. I've been here twice now. The first time was good - standard diner style food at a bar packed with students. After my second visit, however, everyone in my party of 3 got sick and the service was horrible. When we arrived, there were only a few other people there, but we still waited 30 minutes for a waiter to take our orders. I wish the bad stopped there. In the middle of taking my friend's order, the waiter put down his pad on the table and left to go do something else at a different table. I have never seen anything like this before. My order was pretty mild - 2 pancakes and a side of turkey bacon - while my friends got omelettes. After leaving, we all got sick and needed the rest of the day to recover.
