What a quaint little diner and great food that, once ordered, is almost instantly fast. Clearly a local favorite too, staff is friendly but might need to keep the personal life chatter a little more to themselves. Though it adds a little to the small diner feel. State Line Diner has been around for a minute but it's 4 new owners have taken this quant and cozy eatery into a new realm of top notch grub. Get there early as locals and newbies flock to the diner starting at 6am til 2pm, 7 days a week. The coffee is ALWAYS fresh and hot with the friendly staff willing to keep your cup full. State Line is clean (I mean CLEAN) and bright with the groove of the Tarantino flick "Pulp Fiction'" which features a diner scene. There are too many "must have" menu items to list but I'll list them anyway! The biscuits and gravy is among the best I've ever eaten! The biscuits are HUGH and "to die for" and the gravy is great, creamy and mild! The local treat "Goetta" is homemade and superb! Ya gotta try their Cajun ghetto as well. Eggs are always cooked to perfection! Omelettes are ginormous and fluffy. The pancakes are delish and of gourmet status. Whew.... We're still on the breakfast menu?? One other star item from breakfast are the potato cakes served with fresh ranch dressing! In one word EPIC! State Line also features Homemade Blackberry and strawberry preserves. Yum! We were down in the area for the weekend and saw this little hole in the wall and decided to try their breakfast. Everything about this place seemed as if it was frozen in the 1950s or 1960s. A typical diner, which was charming in its own way. The server greeted us promptly and was very friendly. I opted for an omelet with hash browns. I was very surprised to find out that the hash browns were cooked inside the omelet, not on the side. Not so sure how I felt about that, but it was a good omelet all the same. My partner opted for pancaked, which were HUGE. He also got a side of sausage which was a very different kind of sausage (came out in a big plate size patty). It looked good. This is my favorite diner in the whole world. I don't live in the area but whenever I am here I have to get a Big Freddy. They make the best big Freddy and it comes in many sizes for everyone. They are the best at what they do. This is a must stop. I would recommend the biscuits in gravy for breakfast, or the Big Freddy, for both lunch or breakfast. You must come to this place. It's an addiction, this place is way better than spending a a bunch of money on some fancy establishment when you can get something that tastes better here. My family and I used to visit the Stateline Diner for breakfast after church for around a year after moving to Hidden Valley. The food here is excellent and the service can be excellent as well, however this is entirely dependent on the staff currently on shift. Some of the younger motivated servers and cooks seem to be relegated to slower hours while the "tenured" employees get the peak ones. Often we would encounter servers and kitchen staff engaging in the latest community gossip and other chatter while tables needed to be bused and new patrons went unnoticed coming in the door. During these times the food quality and timeliness also suffered. A great local joint has really taken on a poor customer perception because of this. The final straw for us occurred on a day where the temperture was about 85 degrees and it was hot inside the restaurant, as my family was walking in I was the last through the doorway and the person behind the register yelled across the dining room at me "Close the door, you're letting all the cold air out!" in a very snarky tone. This is no way to greet a customer and thankfully there are other diners in the area, so we haven't been back since. read more
