Stayed for 3 nights; the location to hospitals and downtown is great. Hotel lobby is beautiful. The room did not have a working entry light and only one light worked in the bathroom so getting ready was dark. The hall floors were never cleaned the entire time I stayed. Bed was comfortable and I never heard noise from other parts of the hotel. Jonah at the front desk was by far the best staff member and seemed the most concerned with the stays. read more

Did a one-night stay here for work. The staff was the highlight--super friendly and accommodating. I was even able to check in early, which was a huge help. My first room was clean and the front desk even called to make sure everything was okay (nice touch). The downside was the temperature. The room was uncomfortably warm, and after hours of trying to cool it down, I finally asked the front desk. They immediately moved me to a Jr. Suite to make up for it--which I really appreciated. The suite was spacious and had a microwave, but no fridge (even though there was an empty space clearly meant for one). My first room had neither, so keep that in mind if you're traveling with leftovers or snacks. The AC in the suite seemed better at first, but the room had a weird smell and by the middle of the night, it was back to being too warm no matter how low I set it. On the plus side, the bed and pillows were really comfortable, and the location is close to everything you'd want. On the downside, the "continental breakfast" was basically nonexistent, so definitely don't book this place for that. Overall, I'd maybe stay again if the AC issue gets fixed, because the staff and location do make up for a lot. read more

Horrible experience. Checked in and the first room we were given looked like a murder scene. Dirty hand marks all over the walls. What looked like red polish (hopefully not blood) in the shower, toilet was clogged. Disgusting.. gave us a second room and it was better but again, dirty hand marks all over the walls and ceiling. Do they even clean? The ac/heat works when it feels like working. Terrible stay and disgusting room. The entrance area looks nice but once you get past the lobby, it's terrible. read more

I've been here quite a few times since the new job last year and have never had an issue UNTIL the his stop Room 608 heat doesn't work and I found it not as clean as it should be. This really disappointed me because I've always experienced quality people and the beds have always been nice to my back When I say dirty room I'm talking about a used bar of soap sitting at the bathroom sink and a dried up substance on the night stand And it was 27' over night with the heat exchanger blowing cold air And while attempting to check out no one at the front desk. I stood there for 10 minutes without anyone coming to assist me. Finally someone doing other hotel duties assisted me. C mon guys I know you can do much better read more

I was very startled and nervous that something criminal/dangerous was happening with how loud staff was so late at night. The phone in my room did not work so I couldn't call down to ask the desk what was happening. They were not answering from my cell phone either! When I asked the next morning they said they were short staffed and sold out so had to do housekeeping at midnight. I've never seen anything like that! The hotel had horrible accommodations. My room did not have an adjustable thermostats, therefore had no heat. The front desk said they would bring blankets up in 10-15 min since no one could fix it at that time. After 30 minutes I had to call again and then I had to find them after another 15 min. I had one working lamp in the room. The others had no light bulbs. I was told that they would be taken care of the next day. Neither the thermostat or the bulbs were taken care of. They were supposed to have a breakfast. The first day they had nothing. They provided something the second day after complaints. The place was not very clean. The hallways smelled like pot. This hotel was very disappointing. Their location is great, a block from the state house. Their pricing was reasonable compared with others nearby. But you get what you pay for. We did want a reasonable hotel, but there were three big events in Springfield that weekend. All of the better hotels were either booked or were priced above my limit. Let's start with deceptive advertising. The rooms are advertised as having a refrigerator. When we checked in, we found out they were only in suites, and we reserved a king room. The hotel needs to be cleaner. Our bathroom was dirty. There was an empty roll of toilet paper on the holder. They offer amenities like shampoo, etc. I don't know if they provide wet naps or if the prior occupant left them, but they were wet and disgusting. We did go for their breakfast on our first morning. The tables were unclean. There also needed to be more choice. While this is an included buffet, this is the first time I've seen one so empty. That is the long and the short of it. While we had a great time in Springfield and plan to return, this hotel is not on our list. read more

We stayed at State House INN on 2/12 for one night. Room was clean. That the pro! Staff very nice and helpful. The HVAC was blowing out cold air. The room was freezing. We could not fix it. We asked the front desk for extra blankets. Lady at the front desk came to the room to check the heat then told they were having HVAC problems, and she could try to find us a room with heat! We were ok in bed with 2 blankets. We went down the stays from breakfast the next morning and no breakfast because cook was sick. No plan B. was it too hard to put out muffins somehting! We been in hotel where the night shift will start the breakfast. Terrible hotel. The are under new management as of 2/13. Why not shut it down and reopen when it's fixed up read more

This place is very misleading! Where do I even start?? So....I came here with my husband on a business trip...the pictures on the website make this hotel seem immaculate! The parking lot is small and cramped, the courtyard (that seemed spacious online) is very small and consists of 2 tables and no umbrellas (umbrellas were in the pics online)....as soon as we walked towards the hotel, there's someone outside smoking a cigarette....we go inside to check in at the front desk and there were 2 women at the computer trying to fix something....they greeted us hello but never asked how they could help us! So after standing there looking stupid for a few minutes, the lady, who was smoking a cigarette outside as we were walking up, went behind the desk and said she could check us in. We didn't know she was an employee because no one wears a uniform....just regular street clothes...which is crazy to me because I'd expect the workers to look more professional, given this is supposed to be a high end hotel. But anyway, we had a problem checking in from the very beginning. We booked through Expedia so it turned out to be an issue on their end....but that's another story for another day. The real problems didn't start until the next day (we booked our room for 2 nights). Around 9:30a I hear housekeeping knocking on doors seeing if people needed their rooms cleaned....I was expecting them to come to my room because we definitely needed more towels so I waited patiently....housekeeping never came to my room. However, around 11:00a, a woman knocked on my door asking me if I was checking out today...I told her no. Then, this is where it gets CRAZY......around 1:00p or so, someone knocked on my door and I asked who it was and they didn't say anything.....so I get up and look through the peephole and see a woman looking like she was about to open the door.....so I hurried up and opened the door and there's this woman standing there looking confused...she had her suitcase and travel bag with a key to my room! She asked me if 708 (the room I was in) was my room and I told her yes and she said she literally just paid for a room and they gave her a key for 708 I immediately went downstairs to the front desk (the woman came too) and asked why a key was given for my room when I wasn't checked out......well apparently in the computer I was checked out! Now this was the same lady who checked us in literally 12 hours or so before and you mean to tell me she doesn't know how I ended up being checked out in the computer when we checked in for 2 nights???? Housekeeping never came to my room so how did they figure the room was cleaned and ready for a new guest?? Overall, I'm very disappointed with this hotel. You'd think because it's literally across from Capitol Hill that you'd be getting a top tier experience! The hallways are dim and dingy, the carpets make the hallway smell like mildew and kind of moldy, the staff aren't very professional, they smoke cigarettes outside where the guest can see instead of somewhere out of sight, the telephone in our room was very dusty and hadn't been wiped down, there were a couple strands of hair on the bedspread and in the bathtub...I could go on but I think you get the point. Don't come here....you'd be better off at the Hampton Inn. read more

Briefly, we stayed for 2 nights with no heat, broken elevators, and lots of little things. Here is the longer version. Checked in to a room on the 2nd floor. Good thing we were only on the second floor, because the elevators don't work. Walked in to the room to find the thermostat was being worked on with tools and equipment scattered about. Temp in room was 59 F. We were moved to the room next door. The keycard mechanism was very annoying. One card wouldn't open the door at all, and the other worked about one in ten tries. No heat in that room either. Called to ask about the heat. They didn't know what was wrong or when it would be fixed, but everyone was complaining. The toilet in our room had fecal remnants sitting in brown poo water. The coffee maker had gross old discolored water in the reservoir. We were in a hurry and didn't have time to change rooms again. Got back to the hotel later. Called the front desk repeatedly to ask for extra blankets, but the calls were sent to a full voicemail. Walked down to front desk, they said they would send it right up. An hour later, had to go back down. Understandably, it got lost in the shuffle because no one had heat in the middle of winter and everyone was complaining and needing help. They were apologetic and brought up the blanket a few minutes later. The last morning (still no heat by the way), there was no coffee and no breakfast served. Plus the morning front desk worker didn't show up. They were supposed to be there at 7am, but still no one there at 10:30 when we left. The guy that was there couldn't use the computer system. Tried to buy a snack from their shop, and the guy had no way to ring it up. He just gave it to us. I will say that although the workers were friendly and as helpful as they could be given their situation, none of them wear a uniform or a name tag. They are in street clothes and usually congregate in the customer areas rather than behind the desk. One lady did have the usual business casual attire, but everyone else was in street clothes. It is just confusing when you can't tell the customers from the workers. I feel bad for them because it isn't their fault the building is falling apart, but they have to deal with everyone yelling at them. I had been here several times between 2014-2017. This place used to be nice. It is not the same at all. read more

It was clearly recently remodeled - so things generally looked nice. That's about where the positives end. Man, this place was dirty. We were informed on checkin that the rooms aren't serviced every day - that if we needed anything, they would provide it. That usually isn't an issue, as I don't tend to like my room cleaned every day - but the turnover cleaning left a lot to be desired. There was still food in the fridge, the floormat was soaking wet on the side of the shower, there were minimal towels... the room even had 2 burned out lights (including the main entry light) that we reported. Those never got fixed. We never did get our coffee cups stocked. The piles of dirty laundry (bedding and towels) all up and down the hall were a fixture for the first day and a half of our stay - though they eventually were cleaned up. The pile of trash by the ice machine, however - that remained there the entire time. This is the second time we've stayed in Springfield, and neither experience was all that great. Starting to think that town just doesn't do hotels very well. read more

This place ruined my wedding night. I booked this place simply because I work at the Capitol and it was close enough that we didn't have to travel far for pictures there. I figured if it was good enough to be titled the State House Inn that it would be a decent stay. I had booked 2 rooms Friday and three room's Saturday for my wedding party to stay. My husband and the groomsmen stayed there Friday, I did not. Their experience was as follows. They had to move rooms twice due to the air conditioning not working. My 15 year old son while standing outside was asked for cigarettes, weed, and one person even asked him if they could stay in his room because his girlfriend kicked him out. When he went back to his room there were 4 men with ski masks standing in the hallway outside of his room. Thankfully nothing happened. Saturday, my wedding day. We arrived at the hotel around 11:30 only to first be greeted with the fact that they gave my room to someone else because their air wasn't working. I graciously accepted another room because we were exhausted. We get to our room and there is no air and it's over 80 degrees in there. So, I go back down to the front desk and let them know and they move me to another room. That room same thing , no air. This time I called and the front desk tried to help me reset to AC unit in the room but that didn't work. So , we moved again... same thing. On to room 4 of the night , no AC . Not only did the air not work, the controls were dangling from the wall. Thankfully, there was a shift change and the replacement was much more helpful, she attempted to get us a fan but it was too big. She came to the room herself and reset the thermostat and it actually started to work. Once we finally get settled it's after 2AM and we just want to take a shower and the tub wasn't draining so I got to stand in my husband's dirty water. I booked through Expedia and they were mostly helpful getting my money back for one room. The hotel wouldn't give me my money back for the other rooms. read more

If I could give a 4.5, I would! We went down for our 2 year anniversary since neither of us had been in a while and we wanted to go somewhere close but still interesting. We arrived much later than planned (around midnight) and we're able to check in without any issue. The room was great! You could tell it had been renovated with everything looking fresh and up to date. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was extremely spacious. However, the only 2 issues I had were in the room. There were 3 different shampoo and conditioner options from the hotel, which is awesome because most give you one option but everyone has different hair needs. However, there was no hand soap. We ended up using body wash for our hands, which we did provide ourself since there wasn't any body wash given. There also wasn't a mini fridge. A mini fridge may not be a necessity but we had brought a jug of water and had leftovers after our dinner down there, which we ended up having to throw out. Service from the hotel was wonderful though! We had an issue with our key cards but they fixed it no problem. The complimentary breakfast was delicious as well! read more

There was a slight mix up where they gave me a key to someone else's room when I got there and I walked in and saw someone else's bags and walked downstairs and let them know. Very sad state of affairs at the State House. I've stayed here 3 times before, starting in 2014. it was truly fun back then, had great style, and I remember it fondly. Today, the hotel is run-down and understaffed. I gave it two stars and not one because the shower was great, the bed was comfy, and the bartender was hilarious. Otherwise, our King Suite had a queen bed. The keys didn't work until we got new ones. There was no soap in the room. 2 towels for three people. No sheets on the pull- out bed, but there was sticky bubble gum on the couch cushions and carpet. Gashes on the bathroom sliding door. Lots of scrapes and chips everywhere. Breakfast was mostly bad. But the coffee was good (Served on a dirty black tablecloth in the hallway.) I put some trash outside our room at 9 on Saturday morning, it was still there at 9 Sunday morning. The front driveway is covered in oil stains. There's always a line at the desk because there's only one person working. The A/C works for a while, then you have to turn it off and back on to get it to work again. No more State House Inn. read more

One of the worst hotels we've ever stayed at. Despite being right across the street from the State Capital, the hotel (and surrounding neighborhood) was very run down. While unfortunate, this hotel is actually a great metaphor for the state of the Illinois economy.... Once flourishing, but now clearly struggling. The hotel hallways were dark and grungy, the room was ok, but the sinks and bathtub/shower drains were clogged and took more than 5 minutes to drain the water. The view from our 3rd floor window was concerning; for obvious reasons we kept the curtains closed, and were grateful that our car was still there the next morning. Lastly, the complimentary breakfast was just wrong. I understand taking precautions during the CV-19 pandemic, but to give your guests a paper bag containing a Gogurt tube, a children's applesauce (squeeze type) and a granola bar... you would have been better off simply providing directions to the nearest IHOP. read more

This place has bed bugs, it is dirty and the staff is non-existent. My electronic key didn't work multiple times and had to wait for 15+ minutes to get a new one made. When the staff finally came to the front desk and got it made they did not ask for an ID or anything just asked what room I needed a key for and programed it. I could have asked for a key to any room, and they would have given it to me no questions asked. This is the only review of a hotel that I have ever left, and I travel for business regularly. I am currently writing this review at 1:15AM because I kept feeling bugs crawling on me while I was trying to get to sleep. I have a flight to catch in a few hours out of St. Louis and can not wait to get out of this place. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT STAY HERE!! read more

I have never given a hotel 1 star but this was warrented. The highlight was the bartender. She was nice and poured a good drink. First we checked in at 5:30 and they apparently did not have a king room available. We booked in Sept. Robert offered us a queen suite and gave us a discount. We were tired, hot and just wanted a room. This is a suite ..... separate sitting area and bedroom. 1 garbage can for the whole space!! Fridge was stinky and carpet not vacuumed in some places. The worst part...took a shower and walked barefoot from shower to the bed and feet got black from the dirty carpet!! My wife also stepped in something sticky and hair from the carpet stuck to her feet. So nasty!! Makes you wonder what else was not cleaned. On the website shows Top Hat bar and that they serve bar bites. Bar area nothing special and food you have to order in the breakfast room space from some random "restaurant". Nothing on the menu appealed to us. Weird set up. We have stayed at all types of hotels and this one left alot to be desired and the website does not accuratly describe the hotel at all. Would be 1 hour at latest. 4pm- nope just a few minutes longer is what we were told. 5pm- another 1/2 hour to hour. Explained we had concert tickets at state fair. We were told to go and have a good time, our room would be ready once we got back. Arrived after the concert- sorry no rooms available. They said they had to cancel our room. Even though I had a reservation. Was told we would get a refund on Monday- no refund. They won't answer their phone. Expedia will not give us a refund because they can not get in touch with hotel to get confirmation that we didn't actually get our room. UNACCEPTABLE. We were stranded in downtown Springfield. I will not stop until I get our refund. Sad thing is- there is several others who encountered the exact situation. Update- we finally got our refund on 08-23-24 after contacting BBB. read more

PET FRIENDLY!! So often a hotel claims to be pet friendly, but then you are given a disgusting room that is smelly and one step above a kennel. NOT HERE! State House Inn truly caters to pet owners. Their rooms are clean and comfortable. They have green areas for dogs to walk, along with disposal areas for their waste. State House Inn has a staff is amazing! I will stay here on all of my trips to Springfield regardless is I am alone or with my pet. read more

Room was good size but older no fridge, smaller tv etc. Cleaning crew took all the towels and didn't replace, no vending machines either so not a great place but comfortable bed, hot shower. This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. The only thing renovated is the lobby - the rooms are uncomfortable and sterile. The rest of the hotel is dilapidated. The worst thing was the pillows- I think they just bought stuffing from Joann fabrics and put it in a pillow case. We reported twice to the front desk and the manger has still not called us back. I had hoped to at least get a am I'm so sorry this happened to you response. I was staying at this place for 7 days . I had no refrigerator and no microwave in my room. I went to front desk and the lady working on Saturday at 2pm on 7/30. Told me no we don't have any. Without even looking around. So I asked her can you at least check first to see if you have any. Then she says we may have some tomorrow. I had to beg her to call the housekeeper. Can you imagine being in a hotel with no fridge and no microwave for one week!! read more

Lastly the staff was very friendly and very helpful whenever you had a question or need. We definitely highly recommend.
