Glen and Casey were amazing hosts! State Street in Jacksonville is a historical wonder onto itself (do the walking tour!). This lovingly-restored bed and breakfast is a 150-year old architectural gem. We had a wonderful time learning about our hosts and their journey to State Street, as well as great nuggets about Jacksonville. Beautiful grounds for sitting and chatting pleasure. Owners/Innkeepers, Gwenn&Glenn delightful, personable, professional. Jacksonville itself boast it's own personal history and just a short drive (28 mi) to Springfield which was our purpose of the visit to see the Abraham Lincoln Museum/Library. Highly recommended. In October 2020, Jenni and I visited the small town of Jacksonville, IL. We stayed at Blessings on State Bed & Breakfast, which is your favorite Hallmark Movie home come to life. Gwenn (the elegant and charming innkeeper) has created the most perfect haven for any kind of visit you are looking for. Upon arrival, the grand wrap around porch was the first thing to welcome us to a visit that changed my life. Gwenn greeted us at the front door. Her kind smile and welcoming words made me feel right at home. The grand foyer is perfectly decorated to welcome you into the home and to flow into the front parlor and the dining room. The front parlor is elegant, but comfortable. There is a baby grand piano perfectly placed in front of the bay window. I could just picture friends and family gathered around the piano singing songs and having a great time. The furniture is placed where conversation can easily flow. Jenni was so comfortable that she just curled up as we enjoyed conversation with Gwenn on our first evening. I felt so comfortable sitting and talking with Gwenn, however my mind did wonder while I imagined how this amazing room possibly was going to look like at Christmas (my favorite holiday). The grand staircase leads up to the two suites- Serenity on State and the royal Tranquility. Between the two suites there is a beverage and snack station. I loved being able to come out of my room at night to get a cold drink. On the first evening of our stay there was fresh cookies and milk waiting there for us to enjoy before we went to sleep. I thought that was so fun. Jenni and I stayed in the Tranquility Suite. It was a grand suite that had the bedroom, gorgeous bathroom, and a cute sitting/sleeping room attached. The extra room was the perfect place to put our luggage and equipment. It is also a great place to get dressed, so if someone else is still sleeping in the main bedroom. This room would be perfect for families traveling together. The bathroom in the Tranquility Suite is WOW!! It was like you had your own private spa- with the claw-foot soaking tub and the large shower. I enjoyed the large vanity with the two sinks. Jenni and I each could have our space. Breakfast is not just a meal at Blessings on State, but an experience. The dining room is elegantly decorated. When breakfast is served, it is done with elegance and grace. I felt like royalty has I was served the delicious breakfast. Everything we ate was wonderful, but I really loved Gwenn's special breakfast casserole. It is so good!! My words and my pictures that I am sharing here can not express or really show how perfect every thing is. Everything really is perfect. We have already scheduled our next trip to visit so we can experience it at Christmas. Blessings on State needs to be place that you visit. Gwenn and her staff can create your perfect visit/experience. If you are a Hallmark fan like me, then just go ahead and book your room right now. This bed and breakfast was incredible. My wife and I traveled to the area for a wedding. Instead of staying in a typical same old boring hotel we found this beautiful bed & breakfast. You will find all your accommodations met here, incredible breakfast in the dinning room, milk and cookies for you in the evening before bed time. They have a little area with brochures to help you see what Jacksonville or near by us to offer. Gwen and Glen are the greatest couple you could meet, they really make you feel right at home. My wife and I may never stay at a hotel again, these two have set the standard of how you should stay when you go away. read more

My husband and I stayed here this past week in the Serenity Room, and we had a lovely time. Gwen and Glen were great company and had a lot of insight into the Jacksonville community, and the B & B was gorgeous! They gave us cookies and milk in the evening and had snacks and drinks available at all hours. The bed was comfortable and the electric fireplace was perfect on a cold February night. Gwen made a delicious several course breakfast catered to our preferences and schedule. We felt very welcomed and will definitely be recommending Blessings to our friends and family who visit! read more

Me and my wife showed up to spend the weekend. They had outside work going on late in the afternoon and no place to park. I thought I would just go in and give it a chance when I was greeted by a dog and an bare footed Inn keeper. The house also smelled run from this place. read more

My boyfriend and I had to make a trip down to Jacksonville for a wedding last weekend. Somehow he happened to miss out on the room block at the Hampton Inn leaving maybe a Comfort Inn our only choice, which is not really a choice, is it? I had never stayed at a B&B before and having just seen an episode of Bob's Burgers where Linda rents out her kid's rooms for a weekend of B&B fun, I was a little concerned. One tenant was breeding beetles, a freak couple were doing things cartoons couples should not be doing and a mandatory cocktail hour, you get the idea. But, I found this place on the google and thought, at least it will be an experience we can tell our friends about later. So, I booked the room on their site which was super easy to do and very affordable, by the way, and we crossed our fingers. We pulled up on Saturday to a deafening sound of cicadas buzzing, dying, morphing, whatever it is they do every 13 years. Honey, I know you told me but I've already forgotten the lifecycle of the cicada...do you still love me? Ok, back to our B&B....We walked right in and Gwen greeted us at the door. A completely lovely and welcoming woman that was just as unhappy about the buzzing as the two of us. To our delight she had the volume on the automatic piano turned up to the tune of Stairway to Heaven to help kill the noise. No, really. And it was quite nice as an instrumental. An adorable small person, gave us a tour of our room, the tranquility suite, and other amenities included. The room was clean and gorgeous with a large bathroom attached and a sitting room. I half expected to give the sitting room to the snoring bf but let him stay in the king sized bed, which was so comfortable and big I barely noticed he was there. Except that I did because this guy is a cuddler. We were given a key to come and go as we please. My only regret is that we stayed out too late at The Toad to come back and enjoy this place more...that clawfoot tub is still calling my name. We woke up the next morning and had a delicious breakfast of poached pear and eggs benedict at a table for two by the window. That pear was so good I ate two. One for me and one for someone sitting next to me that doesn't eat fruit...I know. Gwen gave us a little history of their time there and her Craig's list finds...amazing. It was inspiring to hear that she was able to do what she had always dreamed of...running a B&B...and an adorably quaint one to boot. Go here, you won't regret it. Even if you have to mingle with strangers, it turns out they are usually great people that have good stories. read more

We needed a one night stay to go watch our daughter play college softball the next day. We never thought such a beautiful experience awaited! Gwen and Glenn are fantastic! The room was perfect; the house was beautiful...the staircase and fire place in the Serenity room alone are worth the trip. All the little touches and attention to detail in the decorating really brought the house to life. Breakfast in the dining room by the window with the flowers starting to bloom was amazing. We even saw a pair of red cardinals nesting in a tree and flying off together. The food was great and Glenn makes some out of this world oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Place was dirty and uninviting. Dogs, which was never posted on their website. I am highly allergic and was not warned. Construction in the back and not my kind of place. Blessings on State is simply wonderful! Gwen and her family are delightful and so welcoming. The home itself is not only beautiful, but very cozy and homey. Every room has a personal touch from the buffet with hot coffee, hot chocolate, homemade cookies to the fire in the fire pit and smores. Our lovely suite included an inviting claw footed tub with beautiful soaps and lotions. The shower and water pressure was awesome! The king size bed was crazy comfortable and the house was so quite. Just before breakfast was served lovely piano music drifted up the stairwell, calling us to the dining room. Breakfast was perfection! We were served Belgian waffles with a dollop of vanilla ice cream and fresh locally grown cinnamon apples along with sausage and an egg and ham omelette. As long as we are traveling to Illinois College to watch the Blue Boys play football, we will be staying at Blessings on State. It felt like home! Oh! We don't want to forget the most adorable assistant that gave us the tour of the home, She was the best!! read more
