I miss it already! Especially their sweet dog Paco :)

The hosts (Pat and Tim) were friendly, answered questions, and treated us wonderfully. The shrimp (grilled over wood) was amazing, as were the breakfasts (eggs fresh from the on site chickens!). We (wife and I) enjoyed the hiking (I'd rate it as moderate to challenging, some of the hills are quite steep). There is a long staircase (with 'rest stops') going to the bottom of the hill. Excellent location to relax (a small stream to cross) and soak in the surroundings. If you are a bird watcher, there are many to watch and hear. It's a bit 'back to nature' - as there are no toilets/baths in the cabins (the bath house and 'outhouse' were very clean and comfy.) They are just a very short walk from the cabins. We enjoyed the place (very cozy cabin with electric heat and a wonderful view, as well as the outdoors) , the hosts, and the 'recharge' time we had, so much that we booked another weekend in May. I'm sure it will be 'all new' with the foliage and blooms popping out by that time. If you enjoy the outdoors, want to 'get away from it all', relax and come experience this little 'Peace of Earth'. ~TH

Main Street Bed & Breakfast - Built in 1875 to house Farmers and Merchants Bank, renovated in 2000 and 2008 by Mike and Pam Ginsberg.

The historically decorated room took us back to early days in Hannibal. Each morning we had homemade bread and snacks. The owners are very welcoming and provided information about the town, almost everything we wanted to see was in walking distance. I am so glad we chose this B & B instead of a hotel.

The positives: everything is well thought out with a breakfast basket each morning with fresh baked banana bread or pumpkin bread, a banana, two citrus fruit, granola type bars, etc. The small fridge in the bathroom across from the shower has yogurt, juices, and bottled water. The coffee maker worked just fine for me. Fortunately my wife brought her own water heater for tea. No one wants water from a coffee maker for hot tea. The negatives: you have no control over a thermostat so the room was kept slightly too cold for us. The blankets on the bed were quite good however and the bed itself was comfortable and large. The location could not be better for downtown Hannibal; close to all the main Twain attractions. However, this comes with a few significant negatives: the street noise at night was very loud with both cars and motorcycles gunning their engines as well as drunks yelling at times. But the absolute worst was the intermittent blowing of extremely loud train horns from the tracks 2 blocks way towards the river. The room has ZERO soundproofing. It sounded like the train was coming through the room at times. Earplugs are a must for this room. Parking was free and easily available on both Main and Center streets, so a huge plus there. The shower was weak but sufficient and hot! So there you ha it. The owner was attentive and organized and a bit quirky in his conversational style. Overall, not a bad experience but not optimal either.

The beds in the Rose and Lilac Rooms are Tempur-Pedic and make for a good sleep if you have a bad back. The little things go a long way here - the inn has cold bottled water constantly available and the proprietors strive to make the guests feel at home. We had an elderly relative along and he used Helen's Room which is the ADA room in the Carriage House - it was perfect for him and all went well. The breakfast is just fantastic. Buzz, our host, was a great host and made sure we were happy. There is nothing like breakfast in the dining room with the fireplace making warmth and enjoying freshly prepared breakfast. No conventional hotel can match this. Buzz also recommended some restaurants and we were most pleased with his recommendation. We really enjoyed Market Street Inn and will return in the future. If you are looking for a great Bed & Breakfast, look no further - this is it. It is worth a special trip if you are traveling on the interstates and looking for the feel of home while on the road. This exceeds anything offered by most hotels on the highway. It is a destination place to stay. I highly recommend Market Street Inn.
