Custom cake!

I'm obsessed with this bakery! I've been allergic to tree nuts my whole life and have been visiting Starry Lane since they were at their previous location years ago. Their desserts have been a part of my birthdays, graduations, and many other life events that are made even more special thanks to their delicious and allergen-free desserts! I have never had a regular biscotti (typically almond-based) but thanks to Starry Lane I have and know I love them! Their Chocolate Chip Espresso biscotti's are delicious, and their Oatmeal Raisin cookies are also to die for. Everyone who works there is always so kind and informative, and I love the bakery space! I swung by yesterday because I've been dying to try their new Mystery Boxes, and was so happy with what I got! Anytime I'm in the area, I check to see if they're open and HAVE to stop by.

Know before you go: They sell EXCLUSIVELY allergen-free treats. Great if you are looking for this type of dessert but could skip it if that isn't the purpose of your visit. On the pricey side ($7 for a 2-bite pastry and $70 for a dozen cupcakes) but again, you're paying for the speciality items being allergen free. I'm not used to this type of dessert so quite frankly they weren't my favorite. As you can probably tell, I'm not gluten/dairy/etc free so take this review with a grain of salt.

While visiting the San Diego area with a family member who is gluten-free we decided to try it. Located in the very cute neighborhood of Hillcrest, Starry Lane is an allergy friendly bakery for gluten, nuts and soy and they had a good selection of items to choose from, from bread to sweet treats, and even mixes to take home and bake. They even ask to keep all outside food away to keep it safe for those who are truly allergic to those ingredients. We tried several items are our favorites were the chocolate brownie, and the chocolate chip espresso and cinnamon biscotti. As someone who does eat gluten, I'm not sure this would be my 1st choice, but it's great option for anyone who wants to avoid those allergen ingredients. Service was friendly and it's nice there a few tables to sit at inside.

I cant thank Starry Lane Bakery enough! We booked Starry Lane Bakery for our daughters first birthday cake. Our daughter has a lot of food allergies so we wanted to make sure we ordered her something she can enjoy and still be safe! Starry Lane Bakery created the most beautiful cake! I highly recommend you stop by this bakery and try out some treats!

So happy to have found a bakery where I can safely get good desserts for my son who has allergies! No more asking 20 questions about ingredients and cross contaminations! And way less stress too. We've only tried the cupcakes so far and they were appreciated from everyone at his birthday party!

You can't even tell these cupcakes are gluten-free! I ordered the s'mores, cookies and cream, and chocolate. The chocolate and s'mores were my favorites. They were moist and delicious, but not too sweet. The designs were so beautiful too!I loved the poinsettia and snowman designs so much!

Thank you for everything you do for those of us in the allergy community!! I bring these pastries and bread to everyone and no matter if they have allergies or not the consensus is that this is the best bakery EVER! First of all everyone please do themselves a favor and get the bread loaf and the pretzel roll, these are so good I always just eat them before I can make anything with the bread. Especially the pretzel roll! But the baked goods are truly amazing. Love getting cupcakes so I can have a treat when I'm going to an event I know there won't be a treat for me. And I LOVE just getting a just cause sweet treat here, it's impossible to not want to eat everything. I've truly loved absolutely everything I've had here. Last year I got my birthday cake from here and being able to have a birthday cake is a joy that I didn't know I had missed!! The birthday cake was absolutely fantastic. Not only was it beautiful and had my favorite flowers on it, but we customized it to be my favorite flavors, and the strawberry filling was just amazing. Best cake I have ever ever had. I don't live in San Diego any more but I'm thinking about this place always and will definitely come back every time I visit! It was always so amazing to pop in for a pretzel roll and a biscoff or whatever sweet treat I wanted that day! Thank you!!

My mom treated us with some pastries from this allergen friendly bakery. We enjoyed the scone and the cupcake the best. The fruit tarts were a bit dry and the frosting was too sweet. I tried there pastries one other time before and if I recall it was there cupcakes. They are vegan and gluten free friendly since they don't use eggs or dairy among other things. Their base is a corn flour. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area. It's a great option for people with allergies or dietary restrictions.

Amazing treats as always. Thoughtful customer service. I'm always impressed! I cannot help but stop by anytime I'm in the area.

Prolly the only place in SD that make baked goods that are free of major allergens which include: gluten, dairy, egg, soy, tree nuts and peanuts. Check the full list of ingredients for each item in their website.. So far, we've tried the flatbread, molasses bread, pretzel bread and chocolate chip cookies -they are all surprisingly amazing. They will tell you also to NOT refrigerate them. I like to stick 'em in the microwave for about 10-15 sec to warm the bread and it is just perfect! They typically last about 3 days. I have tried their chocolate cupcake and brownies, those were ok to me but hey, coming from someone who bakes, and have dietary restrictions... the breads and cookies are truly exceptional. They definitely got the texture down... sometimes i forget that i'm eating a GF bread. I can say this is def at the top of my list of best! And the fact that is egg free and soy free also, it is def a winner!

While it's surrounded by a number of well-known restaurants, this place offers an experience that's unique and satisfying all-around. My wife and I spent a weekend at the hotel located above Gooseberries. Partially due to convenience, we opted to head downstairs for breakfast and received a warm welcome from the owner. We opted for espresso and the French Toast which raised a high bar for any nearby breakfast joints! It's made from their house charcoal bread and complimented with a tangy gooseberry jam and maple syrup. We were so impressed by breakfast that we returned for lunch and shared avocado toast, a breakfast biscuit and roasted vegetables. With every bite we could tell that a lot of care, dedication and precision went into preparing our meal. It was very much appreciated! We even took some of the charcoal bread home for the following week. I'm happy to give Gooseberries my full endorsement and I hope others can enjoy it as much as we did.

The interior of the restaurant was modern but quite comfy.

When I replied that was not true with photo evidence, the restaurant then said they had made another pizza and "a guy" came to pick it up. I told them I neither received another pizza, nor was I even informed I would be getting another pizza. It's unfortunate because I would have come back here because the food quality was good but I work in hospitality myself and it's clear these people don't care about retaining customers. We were greeted with warm smiles from every employee, asked which open table we preferred, and the staff did everything they could to make us feel like weekly regulars. My definition of a great restaurant is simple: great service -- attentive, anticipates needs, and does everything possible to take care of guests -- plus solid food and drinks. This place was a home run, and we will definitely be back when we are in town. We started with the artichoke, and everyone loved it, even our kids. We ordered the chicken parm 10/10, bolognese 10/10, spaghetti with meatballs 9/10, and Pappardelle Al Brasato 7/10. With the brasato, there were a few questionable pieces of meat/fat, but overall it was still a solid dish. The highlight of the meal was the tiramisu. Damn -- it was light, airy, and full of flavor. I just couldn't find any parking on the street or in the block! I suppose i came during lunch which is probably really busy. When I left, there were quite a few opened parking spots. This place is connected to an apartment complex surrounding retail stores. The leasing building is right next to Gravity Heights. I used to rent a 4k+ a month apartment in a retail area and let me tell you, its a hassle to find parking and not take a retail parking spot without having your complex email you everyday about your car potentially being towed lol! I understand this pain. Now that we are past that, let's get to why this place deserves 5 stars. The service is excellent! My server came around at the perfect times and they seem to really care if I enjoyed my meal! The stellar atmosphere with attentive service is enough for me!
