I hate writing anything less than 5 stars for vegan businesses but I recently visited and ordered a rose latte with their made in house almond/cashew milk. I have to admit it was bland and tasted watered down. I didn't enjoy it very much and ended up returning it at the end of my lunch not too far away. They did seem initially reluctant to refund me but I've found rose lattes to be hit or miss, unfortunately. The barista informed me that the almond/cashew milk is a bit watery and I should have ordered it the oat milk. We also ordered a lavender lemonade and two pastries. The lavender lemonade was okay, not too sweet and tasted natural. You could taste the lavender in it. We got a PB brownie pastry and a lemon bar. Both pastries were pretty dry and did not taste very fresh. The top of the lemon bar was good but the cookie base was very dry and hard. The PB Brownie was really sweet and similar to the lemon bar, the top was good, but the base was hard. My husband liked the brownie bar but said it tasted a few days old. We had taken the pastries with us to enjoy once we got home. Although edible, I don't think I would order that again. I would have preferred to try their croissant style pastries but we were limited when we visited around noon. Maybe they had better, fresher options earlier in the day. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll return. The bakery has no indoor seating but limited patio seating. read more

What an odd little place. A small spot of a space you'd miss if you blinked. That said it is now open 7 days from 7-2 and while we were there it was a constant steam of customers. This is a vegetarian bakery and boy it is good. Nothing overly sugary and the taste and texture is great. A find for sure. read more

I went here for a quick breakfast with a friend. I wasn't expecting much, but when I walked in the food looked so good. I ended up getting a ham and cheese croissant and a breakfast croissant. I had no idea this place was fully vegan until I walked in I ordered a latte with oat milk and a cinnamon roll, and honestly, if nobody had told me it was vegan, I would never have guessed because it was SO good. The cinnamon roll was soft, warm, and genuinely delicious. There's no indoor seating, but they have a few outdoor tables which is nice to enjoy the San Diego weather. Parking was also pretty easy since there's a lot of paid street parking right in front of the café. Vegan or not, I think this place is definitely worth trying. My only complaint is that they don't offer "for here" cups, and even the cinnamon roll came in a to-go box, so it was a little hard trying to eat it without a plate. I loved Hazel & Jade! The aesthetic inside is super nice. I love that it's 100% plant-based and vegan. They even make their own flavored syrups for their coffee so if you're strict about sugar, you don't have to worry. I had an iced oat vanilla latte and it was as good as the ones at Artis in Berkeley! I also got a savory croissant because the only bakery that had vegan savory filled croissants in Sacramento closed last year (RIP Mudpie). Crystal got the cinnamon roll. I sampled their bestsellers, the flaky ham & cheese croissant, savory sausage roll, almond croissant, and tropical coconut berry croissant bun, plus a gooey cinnamon roll and the most moist berries & cream cake I've ever had (you'd never guess it was vegan). Their "San Diego Fog" latte, with earl grey, espresso, orange, and vanilla, was as unique as it was delicious, and the friendly barista made the visit even better. As a vegan bakery, the pastries are quite good (I didn't realize they were vegan till after a few visits!). Their store front is a little easy to miss with the minimalist design, but they do have a nice patio out front that's usually pretty empty. Their menu rotates, so it's always a surprise to see what's available. The employees are always nice and patient with my decision paralysis. Relatively, their pastries are on the greasier side (I assume it's could be due to the vegan aspect). I haven't tried their savory offerings, but the sweet options are on the sweeter side and go well with coffee. I usually go for their croissant buns. The scones aren't my favorite considering the stronger leavening agent flavor but there usually are intriguing seasonal flavors! read more

Hazel & Jade is creating the most delicious cakes and pastries all while remaining a true vegan facility (even creating their own "butter"). Read their website and you'll see that they even order speciality sugar to ensure it is bone-char free. I didn't even know what bone-char was or that it could be in my sugar! My husband and I are not vegans but I wanted to try something different and ordered him a small cake for his birthday. We got a confetti cake that was the cutest. It was so well decorated, a great price for the size and absolutely delicious!! This cake is made with gluten, but they even have a gluten free option for all those GF vegans out there. On top of this, I couldn't help but order a pastry while I was there and was very impressed by the "ham" and cheese croissant. They are making some really delicious treats. Hazel & Jade has become a must-stop when I visit San Diego. Their pastries are delicious, and you can also get an assortment of hot or cold beverages at their shop as well. Their shop is on the smaller side, and if you go later in the day there may not be a lot of options left (so be warned to come early, if you can.) But they have a nice little patio up front, so on a beautiful day (which SD gets many of) it's a lovely spot to sit and enjoy your tasty treats. Each time I've been the employees have been helpful and patient--I'm often thinking out loud on how many of their goods I can take with me throughout my trip. On Sunday 8/24/25, the morning worker was incredibly negligent. My boyfriend is allergic to nuts and he asked twice if there were any nuts in the breakfast sandwich. She said no but didn't seem to take the time to check and was a bit flippant in answering. She even stood around waiting for us to ask to order. My boyfriend went into anaphylactic shock within the next hour and this ended us up in the ER. I called 2 days later and that sandwich had cashew cheese. I would give no stars if I could but more than anything, just wanted to leave a review to let others know how unserious they are about allergies and customer safety here. I don't know their plans for that employee's consequences but will update this review when I know. read more

Hazel & Jade has been on my "Vegan Places to Try" list for years. I'm so glad they're still up & running, as so many vegan places have been closing recently. Wow, just wow! I got a coconut berry croissant bun & a peanut butter brownie. YUM! My boyfriend got a coconut berry croissant and says it's in the top two vegan things he's ever eaten (he isn't vegan). He was (and so was I) impressed by the flaky buttery-ness of the croissant bun. The peanut butter brownie is also yum. This brownie was like and cakey with a ganache or frosting layer. That layer had crispy puffed rice in it (a surprise to me) and it worked really well giving the brownie bite and texture. I'm used to a fudgier brownie, but this cakey brownie worked well paired with the thick ganache layer. A nice balance of flavors too with the chocolate not overpowering the peanut butter. I can't wait to eat the rest. And I can't wait to visit Hazel & Jade again! They have a bathroom for customers as well as covered outdoor seating. It's not in the nicest area and right next to a bus stop, so I wouldn't take advantage of the outdoor seating, but it's available. No room to sit inside. The staff was nice! Plan to order ahead as I don't see them having cakes available for day of purchase. Their website is easy to order from. I ordered the berries and cream cake that serves 6 people. Good size and tasted good! A little on the sweeter side, but the berries helped lighten the sugary taste. When I picked up I also ordered a sausage roll as well as a cinnabon. Both were delish and you couldn't even tell they were vegan pastries. I lucked out with parking as a spot was opened right in front, but note parking might take a couple of tries to find street parking. Def worth it though! read more

I loved that there was an all vegan patisserie in San Diego. I was very excited to try it. I ended up getting a lot of things to try: Cinnamon roll, ciabatta breakfast sandwich, sausage roll, brownie, breakfast croissant, ham & cheese croissant, lemon bar, cookie (like a s'more). Also not pictured a cappuccino and a San Diego fog coffee, as well as two handmade coffee mugs. The service was great. The girl behind the counter was very kind and helpful. The place is off the beaten path and small but cute. There were a couple of tables outside; Mostly just an order and go type place though. I brought my husband who is not vegan and is allergic to some tree nuts; he really enjoyed the San Diego fog, ham & cheese croissant and the sausage roll (we actually got two of each). I agree those were also my favorites along with the cookie. All the other items we purchased were just okay. This is why I am giving it 4 stars not 5. Although I greatly appreciate an all vegan bakery, half the items bought were just okay: The brownie wasn't fudgey enough, the lemon bar was too crumbly, the breakfast croissant was not flavorful (the filling that is the croissants themselves are hands-down better than any croissants. I've had anywhere vegan or not), and the cinnamon roll was a little dry. Overall, I would definitely go back for more of the items that I loved and I would try other items that I didn't get if ever in the area again. Their pastries are the best I've ever had. I regularly go and end up with at least 3 to 5 items because I can't decide/narrow it down to fewer. So much flavor, amazing texture, such friendly people! The ciabatta sammie is SO GOOD! Same with the coffee cake. And the peanut butter bar. And the lemon bar. And the chocolate ganache brownie. And the cookies. And the gluten free chocolate loaf.
