Sam and Ato are lovely humans and always do good work. When I ask them to use unscented laundry soap, they do, and never charge me. I have had rips, tears, holes and small alterations fixed and have always been very happy with the results, and grateful I don't have to do them since I am a terrible seamstress. They always pick up and drop off laundry free of charge (although they are a small outfit and I hope everyone is tipping them well, if they pick up and drop yours off too). I have been using their laundry and dry cleaning services for 12 years and I have never had a problem. I am grateful they are in the neighborhood. read more

I really like this place. They pick up my laundry bag from my building lobby and drop it off usually the next day or the day after. It is perfectly folded, smells fresh without being overly scented, and is very reasonably priced. The only reason for 4 stars is sometimes u have to call them more than once to remind them to pick up. But they are so good this doesn't really bother me. Highly recommend! read more

This biz has moved to the Bronx, up on 218th street, because they were sadly kicked out of the hood due to rent hikes. The crappy landlord who bought the building (where Asiakan now stands) raised the rent on this immigrant-owned, family business, more than 600%, and then told them that they would not renew their lease even if they could afford it. Best news is that they still service the UWS neighborhood with door to door pick up and delivery. I even got them to deliver and launder for my UES friends. They are cheaper than anything else in the area (at $.75 cents a pound), and are polite and nice, and friendly. Reliable same day turn around. Ask for Mr. Evans! Laundry was never so easy! read more

I hate having to report negatively on an independent business, but I have no choice but to warn neighbors against Starlight Cleaners. I have used Starlight Cleaners for pickup/delivery wash and fold for years without many issues...aside from having to call multiple times to get them to pick up when they said that they would (not too much of an issue). However, during this past year, their work has grown to careless and damaging. First, my duvet cover came back with rips (and not just on the seams). It's not an item that gets frequent washing or hard use. But nevertheless, I gave Starlight Cleaners the benefit of the doubt. I wish I had not. On December 18 (just before I was leaving town for the holidays), I had my laundry picked up and delivered. This load included some very expensive light silver/lilac sheets that are only about six months old. When I got the load back, I started to make my bed with these sheets. As I was doing so, I noticed discoloration: pink, lightened spots all over the pillowcases as well as on the flat and fitted sheet. These spots had not been there before. I immediately called Starlight Cleaners, explaining what had happened and the damage done to my favorite sheets. Perhaps some bleach or other chemical residue had been in the machine? The first man was argumentative. I spoke with the other who was the same. I offered to text them photos of much of the damage and got a cell number since I was leaving town. The second man agreed, saying that he'd call me back after he'd seen it. I immediately sent about six photos in good light and some text further describing the damage/stains. Nobody called me back. I called a day or so later and was promised that someone would call me back. Nobody did. When I called a third (or was it fourth?) time, I spoke with the man again, who yelled at me. I told him how much the sheets were (including the discount; who doesn't love a Bed, Bath, and Beyond coupon?) and that he needed to respect a loyal customer and make this right. He refused. He didn't even offer to pay for a portion of the sheets that were ruined in Starlight's care, even after I had reminded him how many years I'd used them (and how much money they'd made from me). I said that I didn't want to have to warn others that their laundry might be destroyed by Starlight Cleaners and that it would be so much easier to work out a solution. He just kept yelling and refusing to take any responsibility or concern. So much for "the customer is always right" or trying to find a workable solution. He said he would call me back and hung up. He never did. I texted them (the same number to which I had sent the photos of the spotted/ruined sheets that they ignored and refused to recognize) a couple more times between December 21 and 29. I have received no answer. It's not easy to find a company in northern Inwood that will pick up and deliver your wash and fold. I looked over the first bad experience (the ripped duvet cover) with Starlight for this very reason. But now that my $275 sheets have been ruined with not even as much as an apology (yep...they never even said "I'm sorry"), much less offering to replace or pay for any portion of them), I'm finding a new service. If you care about your belongings, I would caution you to AVOID Starlight Cleaners at all costs. The business does not honor or value loyal customers. They do not exemplify good neighbors. And not only do they refuse to deal with a customer that they have wronged in a professional manner, they ignore the customer...or yell at the customer when forced to see the damage they've done. I hate having to speak ill of a local business, but my neighbors deserve better. Do not use Starlight Cleaners. Find a laundry that treats your belongings -- and you -- better. read more

Starlight is an amazing company, they are quite small but their drop up service is amazing, not only do they pick up the drop off and if you drop off you laundry before 10AM you can either pick up or have them drop off at no cost. Delivery is completely free. I've read the reviews and It's totally understand where people are coming from but I've never experienced otherwise. They are generally customer friendly. I've been using starlight cleaners since they have been on 96 street which they left in 2007 I think. But so far they are a good company and I would highly recommend the laundry mat to others. They deliver to the Bronx and Manhattan. read more

The place is SMALL. Like maybe the smallest cleaners in all of the 5 boroughs. It's true. But so far so good in terms of doing good laundry and dry cleaning. We're picky. And we've lived all over Manhattan's and BKLN. But can he nearly say no complaints about this place so far. Nothing fancy that's for sure. But nothing bad to say about them either. read more

I just moved to the neighborhood and started using them. They have a pick up and delivery service. Cash only from what I know and very affordable. First time I had them pick up my laundry they did a great job with my regular wash. So the next time I had them do the delicates as well as my regular laundry. I put a note on the bag not to dry the delicates and they followed directions well. Every time they've done it it's always same day service. Will continue to use them and will update my review if there are any future developments. read more

As neighborhood customer for years I couldnt believe the horrible experience I recently had. Their services has been deteriorating the last couple of yrs, I guess because they know their services is needed in the neighborhood but their arrogance and disrespect is disgusting and unacceptable. I really wanted to give them a benefit of a doubt but after they damaged my item, tried to cover it up by showing me a wrong receipt showing a damaged item that was not mine! making me wait 3 1/2 weeks to get my item repaired and the icing on the cake, not even an apology!! Their reaction was oh well, the ppl that I sent it to, broke it not me, The odasity!! But I was not going to end my year with negative ppl like this! I believe in Karma and God doesn't like ugly! I also have no clue at all where these effusive reviewers are coming from. I dropped off a pretty simple fold-dry job a while back, and I got a bunch of wrinkly clothes back. You might as well go for the full consumer insult at that point and just compress it all into a huge ball of cloth. What is there to say? I'm usually too drunk or hungover to do anything and Mr. Evans helps me maintain this lifestyle with his wonderful service. It's pretty crappy about him being booted out of the UWS but thankfully he still brings his laundry magic to its residents. Polite, fast, friendly and CHEAP!! Our upstairs neighbor has an AC unit that wasn't installed properly and so water started leaking into our apartment. Unfortunately a lot of the water came in through the thick crown molding above the window, which in turn leaked dirty brown water all over our curtains. I'm guessing the water soaked up whatever was in the old wood. The curtains became revoltingly stained and created a very stale stench. Thankfully our Super told us to get them dry cleaned and that she would reimburse us the cost and then submit to our management company. This was the first place I brought the curtains, mainly because it was on the way to the train. But right from the start, Sam was amazing. He immediately took one look at the curtain panels and said that there was no way dry cleaning was going to get it out. I almost cried because I did not want to wind up having to buy all new curtains (there's another set in the living room that thankfully wasn't damaged), especially with a baby on the way. I also didn't want to have to lug them back home or into work with me. But then Sam did the greatest thing a cleaning business can do: He said he'd try to clean them himself and if it didn't work he wouldn't charge me anything. [cue angels chorus singing] My wife just picked up the curtains yesterday and guess what? Not only did the gross stains come out but they look AND smell better than when I first bought them! I could hardly believe it honestly. It was like an infomercial for a miracle stain remover but so much better cause it was real! Aaaand it was incredibly affordable. Unfortunately I have to update my entire first review. Starlight in the past few months has become careless and sloppy. We have missed items from several deliveries and a comforter was returned to was with looked like burn marks. We had to call several times to get someone to speak with us and told them it looked like cigarette burns and said that we don't smoke. Their response was "We don't either". This place is really nice to have in the neighborhood- price is right and the guy who runs it is really nice. They do pick up & drop off and we've never had any problems with the laundry. The only thing is to know that their hours are a bit..erratic. They aren't always open as early as their posted hours so sometimes its a bit hard to drop stuff off in the morning. They are however, super fast and stuff is always done in one day. We've even dropped things off in the morning & picked them up after work. read more

Starlight is the best. I call, they pick up, wash, dry, fold, and deliver, for under $1/lb. Mr. Ato comes down with his little cart, and we have a little chat, then he heads back uptown. Well, this is the only delivery laundry service in the 'hood, since Splash was destroyed in a fire. The actual cleaning job Starlight does is really good. Basically affordable too. But they keep rather erratic hours, and when you call to get your laundry dropped off/ picked up, be prepared to wait. Like really wait. Like hours. And sometimes they don't even come. (I've left the house after waiting for them for 3 hours, so maybe they came, but they didn't buzz my roommates) Anyway, I'll still use them occasionally when the laundry situation has so overtaken my house I have no choice, but they are really quite frustrating. read more

Number one, RB, 218th street is not the Bronx, it's Manhattan. The Bronx starts at 225 street across the bridge. Number two, Im not sure what cleaners you guys are going to, but Starlight is horrible. The management is very difficult to communicate and regularly rude. They benefit from having a "monopoly of convenience", so to speak, because there aren't any other cleaners close by. The inside is always disheveled and dirty and there is never any space to move around or fold clothes. It is not a proper environment for cleaning anything. Also, their dry cleaning service is overpriced and terrible. They are slow and the quality of work is low. I regularly have to wander around the neighborhood just to find the staff, who are incredibly unhelpful. Even if they are there, they act like they're too cool to help customers. Worst laundromat ever. I hope they lose their license again so we can get a real laundromat in this neighborhood. read more

The worst, been here 3 times they've never had my stuff ready when they said they would. Took a blazer I was going to wear to an interview here to be cleaned they didn't have it ready when they said they would (they had well over 24hrs) and when I finally did get the blazer back it was still stained. I don't think they even cleaned it. read more

My family has been using this dry clean and laundry provider off and on for at least six years. The shirts are consistently pressed crisply and don't have a slightly off odor as they do when they come back from other laundries. The pick up and drop off service is very impressive. Even today, 20 minutes after I called a gentleman was at my door to deliver last week's laundry and pick up today's. (I had surgery this last week so am grateful to not have any hindrances with laundry.) The proprietor is always pleasant and helpful. Happy to have Starlight so close to home. :D read more

Sometimes I think you have to live in New York to really appreciate your local cleaners. Let me preface that with saying I loved my cleaners in LA, they were Green and friendly and I used them for five years. Big love. New York is another beast all together. If you work crazy hours which I do, think 14 + (add and hour or two for subway or driving) and you live in a four story walk up. The right cleaner can be a life saver, helping hand and stress reliever. I still did my laundry the old fashioned way , in the bottom of my building - until I had a shoulder injury and I was at my physical therapist in Inwood and I walked by Starlight Cleaners. What the hell, I thought... let's give it a shot. I felt a little guilt - weird. I thought is was going to be expensive etc... It's not. It's totally on par with what I spent on machines and laundry soap, it came folded, delivered to my door. These guys rock and without knowing it made a big difference in the quality of life. 5 + Stars! read more

These folks could not be more kind and helpful. They do an *excellent* job cleaning and folding your clothes. I hand them bags of messy, dirty stuff and I get back perfectly neat, clean, folded, wrapped clothing, ready to go into my drawers. They even do pick ups and drop offs. I used to love this place. The guys who ran it were always nice and helpful. That all changed this month when they ruined a silk dress. Because I'd had bad experiences with the kind of spot cleaning that would be required, I checked with two other dry cleaners who confirmed my fears. The dress might survive the process, but the next time it got cleaned, permanent chemical stains would appear everywhere spot cleaning was required. They wanted to clean the dress again, but knowing what I did I asked them to recompense me for the damaged dress. The men who had previously been so nice began to scream at me. I was insulted (called stupid and a liar) and accused of blackmailing them. The man who was screaming at me was inches from my face. I admit to loosing my temper too - not very appropriate or adult a response. They were completely uninterested in their reputations with the BBB, the neighborhood boards, or on Yelp. Short of mugging them there was no way to convince them to do the right thing. So now I own a very expensive, irreplaceable, silk dust rag and need a new cleaner. read more

Never had a problem with the service of Starlite until tonight when their owner called me and yelled at me after not doing their job. Laundry was sent in on Tuesday, they did not deliver Wednesday so I called to have it delivered Thursday. I called at 8 Am for delivery, and was told "sure, it will be there by 5." at 7 pm I called and was told "Oh he forgot it it will be there in one hour." at 10:15-I was woken up from bed and they were there to deliver it. Upon receiving it we noticed it actually was not my laundry that was delivered. No big deal. I called and left a message. I was told it would be delivered I asked for a time he said I don't know. I called 4 times that day and was assured it would be delivered in 30 minutes. The last call was at 1 pm. At 6 pm it was not delivered I called again. The owner yelled at me for his mistake, refused to apologize for the inconvenience of not having my clothes for 3 days. Your service is a laundry pick up and next day delivery. If that is your business. Your job. Do it. Don't yell and scream at a customer for expecting what you advertise. He continued to yell and scream at me to not use his service. Gladly sir. read more
