    Flounder

TLDR: Farm to table, higher end restaurant that would be good for a date but horrible for families. I asked some locals at a *very* nearby brewery for their recommendations for dinner, and several said Starlight. They mentioned farm to table, higher end, and slightly pricey in their description. I would say that was accurate. The ambience is definitely "date night". Walking bass 3 piece jazz playing on the speakers, limited (but craft) beer offerings, and a small menu with most entrees in the upper $20 to low $40 range. Honestly, it was good food and a nice atmosphere, but felt just a tiny bit pretentious. The service was good, the flounder was delicious, and it was a nice experience. If you were looking for a nice dinner as a couple or to impress a date, I'd highly recommend Starlight. If you're on a budget or dining with children, it's definitely not your place.

Interesting place! There's public paid parking across the street and free 2 hr parking behind the restaurant. Ordered the kumquat old fashion, mussels and the saffron ice cream. I thought everything was just ok, the old fashion tasted a little watered down and the mussels were really small. The ice creams are made in house I think but the flavor I choose was not too great.

We liked the general decor of this restaurant, and really liked our server, Austin (good luck on the PHD), but the food was kind of hit or miss, time out of the kitchen was slow, and nothing really grabbed you! We started with a Margarita and a Hemingway - delivery time was really slow in an almost empty restaurant, and taste of both cocktails was off, especially the Margarita, which had an underlying hint of bitterness. We split a dozen Oysters On The Half Shell - six of which were Blue Points from MA, and they were not at all fresh tasting - the other six were from MD or RI and were better, but very small. We finally received our complimentary bread 40 minutes into the visit, and I simply didn't care for it, very soggy texture. Our entrees arrived finally, nearly an hour after we sat down - Alice chose the slow cooked Brasstown Farm Beef Brisket, braised in Uptown Brewery Coffee Porter, served with cheddar polenta, and wilted local greens ($25). I picked the 12 oz NY strip with house-made steak sauce, béarnaise compound butter, and Belgian frites ($28). The Brisket was excellent with great flavor, and falling apart tender. The polenta was ok only, but the wilted greens were exceptional. The steak was decent, cooked to the proper temperature, but more than a bit on the chewy side - I really prefer a different cut of meat for this dish, a rib eye or shell. The frites had a nice flavor but lacked the required crispness. We ended the meal with a Southern Sundae (Coca-Cola ice cream, banana, whipped cream, salted peanuts) for $6. This sounded better than it tasted, and was a bit awkward to eat as served. At the end of the meal, we were not really impressed. While our waiter was excellent, the kitchen had a bad cases of the slows, and other than the brisket and wilted greens, the meal was very ordinary for these prices. The 3 stars is probably a bit of a stretch, but 2 seems punitive - either way, don't see a return visit.

From the parts I got to see inside was small table seating around the bar. We got lucky to sit in at the outdoor covered patio seating which was great minus perhaps some outdoor heaters to warm it up a bit. Service was good overall. Servers were fun and helpful. Service a bit slow on our drink refills but the food running and table bussing was fast. Food was great, wished I had taken pics to share. Menu consisted of a good selection of apps, sandwiches, burgers and sides. Everything we tried was great. Chicken nachos were awesome, wish they had been a bit bigger but the topping portions was perfect and the taste amazing. The Cuban and fried pork chop sandwiches were again great and the spicy sweet potato fries were so good. Potion sizes were good and the food tasty. The nachos and spicy sweet potato fries were my faves. While probably not the place for young families, this was a hidden gem and fantastic find. Not really for those in wheelchairs as it is tight getting through the bar area, but there was a small ramp I recall. Bathrooms could use some work, about what you'd expect at your local dive bar but only a single stall and could be cleaner. Highly recommend this place.

We went on a weeknight, and they do offer daily specials. The menu is seasonal and changes often, which is a nice touch. We started with the fried green tomatoes, which were honestly some of the best I've ever had. I didn't try the biscuits or grits since they had cheese, but the person I was with said they were absolutely scrumptious. The shishito peppers were also delicious, and the sauce underneath them added a really nice layer of flavor. For my main, I ordered the fish and chips. The fish itself was pretty standard, but the aiolis and the remoulade were amazing and really made the dish stand out. The appetizers came out within 10 minutes. The entrée took a bit longer, but overall the service was good.

Let me also say that I am the consummate "foodie", my life has been driven by my passion for all types of food. When I dine, I try to go into the restaurant with no expectations, so you can pretty much trust what I am telling you about the experience. With that being said, we had just moved to Greenville a few days before and decided we needed to treat ourselves after the week of moving and unpacking. We decided on The Rickhouse, notwithstanding the fact that my first name is Rick! Anyway, we were sat immediately, and were approached quickly by our waiter, Christian. In short, Christian was fabulous throughout the entire meal, even considering the fact that it was only his first week on the job. He certainly has a flair for waiting tables. We ordered drinks and I have had a fair amount of Grey Goose dirty martinis in my life and let me tell you, the bartender knocked this one out of the ballpark. One of the best I have ever had anywhere! We ordered an app, the Chef Crab Dip and it was wonderful. Not too crabby, perfect blend of cheeses and pita chips that I am pretty sure are house-made. I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu which was absolutely out of this world! I got to sample the other two entrees at the table, which were the Garlic Parm Chicken Pasta and the special that evening, which was a bacon wrapped Filet Mignon topped with a bacon jam. Both of them were also to die for! We didn't have dessert as we were stuffed already. The bill was $189, which I didn't consider bad as we had an app, three entrees and six drinks. While some might consider that a lot for dinner, I'm also the guy that doesn't bat an eye at spending $600 for a dinner for two at a gourmet French restaurant. Anyway, I can't recommend The Rickhouse enough. Everything from start to finish was just about as perfect of an experience as you can get at a restaurant! I just hope our next visit will be as wonderful as our first!

Our waiter was attentive and friendly, offering to help with a decision or asking if we had any questions. Bestie ordered the fried mozzarella with marinara as an app which was pretty good, with a crunchy exterior and gooey mozzarella. My son wasn't a fan unfortunately cause it had a slight kick in the breading. My son got the kids grilled cheese with sweet potato fries which were perfectly seasoned and cooked leaving the sweet potato still soft on the inside but a crunch on the outside. I can confirm that his fries were awesome! I ordered the Steakhouse Smash burger with pesto pasta salad. The burger was juicy and cooked to order as requested, with the toppings I wanted to alter and add some correctly. I'm not really sure what the sauce was on the bun, it kinda tasted like coleslaw and by itself was a little odd but on the burger it was perfect. The pesto pasta salad required a tiny bit of salt but other than that the seasonings and fresh veggies and cheese chunks were delicious. There weren't many people inside the bar for a Sunday lunch, but it looked like it could be a pretty happening place in the evenings when I'd wanna grab a mixed drink.
