Today, I enjoyed the dolmades, grape leaves filled with a rice mixture. They were attractively presented on a bed of lettuce, served cold, with a vinaigrette dressing. This dressing gave the rice a nice zest! I found the dolmades to be refreshing on a warm summer day. I think it's a nice to have in place of a side salad, or it could be shared with others, as an appetizer. I've eaten here about once a week and it's always a pleasure coming here. Most of the time, I've been on the run and wasn't able to eat in the dining area. My food is always ready, if I call it in, and it arrives quickly, if I place the order in-house. Overall, food is not pretentious, it seems like real food, flavorful, and the Greek entrees are delicately seasoned. I really love the moussaka! It's elegant, and the bechamel top layer isn't too heavy, even on a hot summer day in Greenville. It's a beautiful layered entree featuring eggplant, a seasoned meat layer, finally topped with an egg enriched bechamel sauce. I could eat their eggplant everyday, whether it's in the pita, or in a lovely slice of moussaka. I've tried the pastitsio, another layered Greek entree topped with bechamel, and I do like it, but it's not the moussaka, to me; I lean towards the eggplant. The rows of pasta in the pastitsio do make a pretty presentation. I have not had anything here, that I didn't like. The meat in the souvlaki and the Athenian chicken is always tender and moist. The salads have been fresh and the dressings bright and flavorful. The falafel and battered fish have both been moist and delicate, expertly fried. The pita bread is warm, consistently grilled. I love their creamy potato salad, it reminds me of homemade by someone's Grandmother. The staff is patient, pleasant, and provide great service; they have never forgotten dressings, or extra napkins, on my take-out. My food stays warm on the drive home. My orders have always been correct. The dining area has 2 sections, both are inviting and well lit with natural light from skylights and large windows. The decor is retro, and is feels authentically vintage; this restaurant has been in the same location for decades, since 1997. The natural wood grain of the interior tongue and groove wood was never painted, thankfully. This is one of the few Greenville restaurants, a keystone, that has been around for decades. It's an older landmark building in downtown Greenville. It's located next to the Greenville Museum of Art. Regular customers appreciate the team at Marathon. read more

First time here and to celebrate a friend's birthday. I have questions for folks who highly rate the food. I'm not sure they have had a gyro anywhere else or maybe even beef. Not much of this was Greek. It was not flavorful, dry, what moisture it had was oil. Others at the table also said it was "the most ok steak and cheese sub". We waited 15 mins to place an order, another 10-15 to get the food. The fellow at the register also was the waiter and busser as well. Soap machine in the bathroom didn't dispense. We decided to try this restaurant today what a nightmare. The cashier is wearing a hoodie that's not professional. He takes our order. We wait over 30 minutes and then decide to check on the order after seeing another person's order of food just sitting on the bar because somebody asked the cashier and food deliver a question. He forgot then to bring their food. They got up being very angry. I checked on the order and he went in the kitchen he told them our order and the guy in the kitchen a cook cursed and yelled saying he did not have the order. The cashier came out and saw he never gave them our order to put on a close pin. I asked for my money back. It looked like an owner our manager came out never apologized. I've been wanting to try this place for months, and I'm happy I finally went with a friend. We each ordered similar dishes, one being chicken and one pork. I was really happy with the plate that was provided, especially the tzsaski sauce. Food is served on styrofoam plates with plastic utensils. You order at the front of the restaurant (no sit-down service), and drinks are self-serve. Beer is also available for purchase. I enjoyed the hummus and chicken kabob platter I had on my last visit. The place had a kind of old school / casual dive bar feel (because they do have a dive-ish bar inside) and I dig that. I think I will probably hang out here again soon. They have a large menu of Greek specialties. I will probably try their Gyro on my next visit... I had a salad on the side which tasted fresh and the pita served with my hummus was served warm. Pretty Nice! One small caveat - they do close kind of early. on weekdays I came in at 8:09 on a Tuesday and the fellow at the counter said, ¨We close at 8:30 tonight" (the front door sign says 8:45 - which is still sort of a strange closing time - on a weekday near a college (?) ECU - East Carolina University...). So, I scarfed down my food (quite tasty) and left by 8:32. I counted four other tables still eating when I left - so I don´t think I was an imposition. The food is really good but the issue I have with this place are the hours. It will say it's open online but when you show up they are actually closed. This has happened to me multiple times when trying to dine here. While the food may be good, the hours need to be updated and be correct of when you are and aren't open. The inconvenience of never knowing if this place is open or not has me debating if I even try eating here again. While writing this review outside the building, I watched 2 other people show up and park, try to go in, just to be forced to leave because online it says they are open when they are not. read more

Meh! Most definitely a thumbs down!!! I ordered the Gyro Platter: The gyro meat is processed meat, the salad was sad and soggy (REALLY wilted and REALLY soggy - I'm not exaggerating! There's no telling how old it was?), the tzatziki sauce was AWFUL (might as well be just plain yoghurt with garlic powder mixed in), the fries were clearly reheated from frozen and they only gave me HALF a Pita bread?!). NOT a good experience and NOT a good value; but then, I should've known what to expect, with the dingy look of the place, the messy-looking kitchen (visible from the register) and the health score of just 91 (cafeterias get higher scores!?). I was greeted by the owner, a funny and hospitable person. He recommended several items, including their daily special which was Chicken Kabobs for Wednesday. Dry food with not much flavor. The eggplant in the pita sandwich was fried to nothingness. Tasted like just pure batter and oil. Falafel was crumbly and fell apart. Thankfully the pita itself was warm and fluffy. I just trashed the filling for my eggplant and falafel pita sandwiches and ate the pita by itself a side of hummus. The hummus I received was warm and chunky. I'm used to chilled and smooth so I wasn't expecting that kind of preparation. Looks cool in there though. The serving size is perfect, and you get a decent amount of options for your side item(s). We went during at 4 pm on a weekday and were the only customers there which was nice.
