Loved working with Maddy. She is very supportive, knowledgable, and easy to talk to!

First I'd like to share that I'm in the early stages of my recovery. With that said,I can say to you in all honesty that over the last few months of my counseling with Aster the world that I used to live in has been slowly falling away to reveal a place where I've found hope and compassion for myself. Something I never thought possible. read more

Earlier this year I was put on a restrictive non-gluten, non-sugar diet for health reasons and I was very worried about how to accomplish this. I was referred to Starkel by my naturopath. Emmilia was my nutritionist from Starkel who worked with me on figuring out what I could eat and discussing everything from how I felt in the new diet to getting recommendations for a food service to understanding the more of the science behind what was happening in my body in relation to food. I couldn't have gotten through such rigorous cut over into a different diet without her support. read more

I came across Starkel Nutrition through social media and became interested in their various services. Starkel recently started advertising a cleanse program that focused on clean eating, has in person meetings, and lots of support -- sounds amazing, right? Wrong. First, I filled out an online form for someone to contact me with more information. When I didn't hear back after several days, I decided to call Starkel to get more information and could not believe how rude and unhelpful they were! At one point I even asked if there was someone else I could speak with who might have a better attitude, but was ignored. Decent customer service and customer follow-up shouldn't be too much to ask -- sadly, at Starkel, it appears to be. read more

Starkel Nutrition - Office space. - Nutritionists Near Me - Seattle, Washington

Starkel Nutrition is a powerhouse of highly educated and professional practitioners who not only know what they are talking about but are so easy to deal with. Without exception, every interaction with that organization has been a true pleasure. I was also particularly surprised and delighted to discover that the consultations are covered by insurance are not subject to my deductible as it's considered preventative medicine. Starkel Nutrition (SN) even provides a list of questions, on their website, for you to ask your insurance company, which is helpful. Anna, their billing specialist, is extremely knowledgeable and is always able to answer my questions. I did a cleanse with SN in January and was worried I'd find it difficult to stick to the program, but it was so comprehensive and well thought through, I had no problem. They anticipated and addressed every 'obstacle' and question I had and provided excellent support and education. I learned a huge amount about nutrition and my health. Pre-cleanse I thought I was supporting my body with proper nutrition because I ate a lot of vegetables. However, I quickly realized after eliminating sugar completely, how much better I felt. For the first time in my life, I was properly nourished; I felt healthy, energetic and vibrant. I understood more deeply, how what I ate impacted me and how I felt. As a bonus, I also lost a huge amount of weight, which I'm proud to say I've kept off and, unbelievably, have also curbed my binge eating. All it took was for me to experience the feeling of well-being through proper nutrition and the urges disappeared. I continue seeing Emmilia post cleanse. She provides continued education, support and encouragement and addresses my specific medical conditions through food, lifestyle and supplementation. Dr McKinstry is a wonderful naturopathic doctor whom I'm relying more and more on, vs my PCP, because she digs deeper and really cares. The back-office team, Tine and Lauren, ensure everything runs smoothly and are a true delight to deal with. All of my appointments are available via telemedicine which is so convenient. I'm so happy to have discovered an organization that takes a holistic, natural approach to good health and who makes it easy and achievable. Don't waste your time seeing anyone else; just go straight to Starkel Nutrition. I wish I'd found them years ago. read more

Julie has truly improved my life. Though the teamwork with her and my gastroenterologist we got me to a point where my chronic issues were no longer chronic! When I met her, my gut flora was massively screwed up from getting really sick on my honeymoon in a different country. I was miserable. I was even having a tough time before that, all my life, but I thought that was normal. You get used to feeling bad sometimes. But turns out I had a pretty nasty case of SIBO! I got on some herbal antibiotics and that plus counseling on how to help the gut flora get better by both diet and lifestyle changes, I am doing a billion times better. She treated me with care, heard all my concerns with sincerity, and always gave me some guidelines. She also responds timely to any questions emailed. If I ever have kids, I plan on working with her with whatever I eat while pregnant! Then I'll find out more questions! Julie's stuck with me! ;) read more

Emmilia is wonderful and has helped me so much over the last year with eating and digestive issues. In addition to a Nutritionist, she is like a mini-therapist--going beyond just "what did you eat" and really diving into the "whys" behind certain eating habits or symptoms I might be experiencing. She has done a wonderful job of meeting me where I am at and being nonjudgemental and supportive throughout! read more

If you read nothing else below... Julie is amazing and I continually recommend her to people in my life. If I could give her 20 stars, I would. I worked with Julie for about 3 months and already feel remarkably different. I spent almost two years telling myself that it was normally to feel slightly sick every time I ate something.,When I finally got a recommendation from a friend to make an appointment with Julie, I figured I had tried everything I could think of on my own and it was time to get help from someone else. Julie was the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. Sure, doctors can run tests and listen, but Julie focuses on the body, mind, and spirit. She wanted to hear about outside factors that were affecting my life and diet and brainstorm ways to make things more manageable. When I first went in to see Julie, I was on the verge of tears multiple times being so frustrated with feeling sick. She patiently listened to all of the things that I had attempted, never once telling me that what I had tried was a bad idea. She even respected my initial wishes about "what I couldn't eat because it definitely doesn't make me feel good." Many of these food items have found their way back into my diet and compliment the blood sugar lessons, stress lessons, and overall goals of balance that I now have. Every meeting I left with a manageable list of things to try for the next meeting. About halfway in between our meetings I would feel like I was falling off the wagon. Yet, every time I went in to see her it was like I had a reset button. I could tell her about what had worked and what I had let slip and we would reevaluate and brainstorm. Working with Julie made me feel as if I had a partner and guide in my journey to feel better. Instead of being frustrated and discouraged every time something made me sick, I took note and talked about it with her in our next meeting. Food is such a big part of everyday life, I can't say thank you enough to her for helping me. I actually find it exciting to sit down and enjoy a meal again rather than terrified I am going to feel sick for the rest of the week. read more

I have been seeing Riana Giusti for over three years and I can not recommend her enough. I have battled an eating disorder for over twenty years and after having my first baby, I needed as much support as possible. Riana has taught me to be more compassionate to myself, understand that diet culture does not work, and how to honor my new postpartum body. Riana has taught me ways on how to model intuitive eating to my child and to change my language around food. During the process we have dug deep on how to improve my overall well being through food sensitivity, monitoring my blood sugar and lowering my cortisol levels. Riana has gone above and beyond being just a nutritionist but also a mini-therapist in helping me navigate my thoughts around food, my body, and complicated relationships. She is incredibly kind, thoughtful, and has an excellent background in nutrition and navigating eating disorder recovery. read more

Siona has been guiding me along my journey to health for over a year now. She is kind and patient and as much of a therapist as nutritionist. I came into the process with a lot of knowledge from previous attempts at weight loss, but it was her continuous encouragement and helping me to understand my own sabotages in many cases that really helped me get on the path to wellness. Everyone in the office has been wonderful to interact with and very helpful. read more

A great team of thoroughly educated, compassionate and action-oriented professionals. Everyone has a different specialty which helps make it a rounded team. Julie is great in her approach to goal-oriented plans for improving your overall health, I look forward to more appointments as even one has made me aware of certain habits around eating that could be improved. read more

Starkle wanted to charge me $175.00 for a no-show fee that was 95 % their fault. I was a Starkel client in 2017-2018. I came back to the practice in January 2021. I was offered and took a "wait-list" appointment on Friday 2/19. My next scheduled appt was for 2/24. When I met with my practitioner on 2/19 we ended the appointment by scheduling future appointments. She never mentioned the 2/24 appt. Later that day I got a reminder text for the 2/24 appt. I assumed the text reminder system had not caught up with itself yet and the message must have been an error. I also assumed the scheduler of the 2/19 appt canceled the 2/24 appt when she set up the 2/19 appt. So that's a total of 2 staff members I spoke to regarding scheduling who never mentioned the 2/24 appt. On Sunday February 21st I got another reminder text message about the February 24th appt. I thought that was odd and then realized the 2/24 appt had never been canceled. I responded to that text message saying the 2/24 appt should canceled. I checked very carefully before I responded to the reminder text message to see that there was no "DO NOT REPLY" verbiage. On February 24th I was contacted by the office manager about paying a $175.00 no-show fee for my appt that day. Imagine my surprise. I explained to her what I stated above. She dropped a few gems like, "We only provide one freebie and you had one in 2017. We don't get those text messages even though they don't specify DO NOT REPLY wording, they should and we can't correct that. If you don't agree with our policy then you will not be a good fit for our practice." My reaction became more frustrated as she droned on and kept delivering the same message, no matter what I said. I must pay or go. Plus, I was in pain from dental surgery complications when she I and I spoke so I wasn't at my best. But you know that type of person, where you just can't believe your ears and that they would be in a position where they must communicate with actual human beings? I also said I would take them to small claims court and I would certainly prevail once any judge viewed those text messages. I told her I didn't believe her and that if my practitioner knew all the details she would have a different take on the matter. I also hung up on her. While I strongly objected to her unwavering, unrealistic, lack-of-common sense bureaucratic rhetoric, I never called her names, cursed, threatened, or insulted her personally. However, I did strongly object to and question the messaging. I wrote up the whole event and emailed the details to them. Bottom line, they decided to rescind the $175 fee. Good for that. However, my practitioner went on to say that while she and I get along well she thinks it would be best if I left the practice. This was due to the way I treated the office manager and I'm guessing it's also because I said I would take them to small claims court. How dare I express any frustration over being treated so unprofessionally? I guess if you are confronted with an abundance "Seattle nice" aka passive aggressiveness from Sparkel, then one should never get upset no matter what's being said. It was good until it wasn't. Good riddance to Starkel if that's the way you want to "care" for people. read more

Deciding to make a change is hard enough, then you are told you have to wait three months for an appointment. Ok no problem I've been told they were worth the wait. I was impressed by the nutritionist and the approach, we agreed on a plan. I went out and tried to find appointments aligned to the plan we created and no appointments. No problem we can wait list you! Lets book out 2020 so you get all your times you want! After hours of my time, I got a call saying that the date and time they booked was not a time the nutritionist was working!!!! EPIC FAIL don't waste your time because after this ai just cuddled up to a pint of Ben and Jerry Ice Cream!!! read more

I started nutritional counseling because of constant bloating and feeling sick after most meals. I worked with Emmilia Smith, who helped me get tested for SIBO and do a food restriction and reintroduction diet to better understand what foods my body can tolerate and which cause symptoms. Since seeing her and using the resources I have gained from Starkel Nutrition, my stomach finally feels normal and I feel so much better! Beyond just nutrition, she really helps with my feelings around food, movement, and even daily energy. Highly recommend! read more

I just can't say enough how thankful I am for Grace at Starkel Nutrition. I'm having trouble articulating how much she helped - both for body image and chronic pain. Grace walked me through unpacking negative body image that so many of us have. Those deep sessions were really difficult, but they've stuck with me for the past 2 years and every day I appreciate that my brain has healthier patterns of thinking. I'm appreciating my strengths instead of looking for my weaknesses. (I wish that appreciation came naturally, but I needed a little help reframing my thinking). My appointments at Starkel also helped me work through chronic stomach pain. I think that I had quite a bit of guilt associated with it - feeling bad complaining about hurting when I know that there's other people in more pain. I also just assumed it was how I would be because years of trying to figure it out wasn't helping at all. Grace helped me confront that pain, and made me realize that I can expect more out of my body. Together we worked through figuring out the cause vs. just treating the pain. It wasn't easy to go through food testing, etc., but I feel like with gut health there's no easy answer; you have to be willing to put in the hard work to learn more about how your system functions. I know I couldn't have done it without her support. I was so thankful that when I had questions pop up or needed some support to get through a vacation when I was doing an elimination diet, Grace was quick to respond to emails with encouragement and suggestions. Before all of this process, I was feeling sick most days of the month. I am so incredibly thankful that now I only feel bad a few days of the month (I know that I'll always have some gut issues but now I'm able to walk myself through those times and have tools to get through). I have so much gratitude for how much your team has improved my quality of life - both in my mind and how I feel. It's made me expect the same level of excellence in other specialists that I visit. Thank you for all of the support! read more

I have been working with Amanda Cirie for the past six months on reevaluating my diet and nutrition. She helped me think about the foods I was eating and its impact - both positive and negative - on my gut health. I've learned what foods to eat more of (fiber & protein), as well as various supplements to incorporate. She's incredibly knowledgeable, and is able to answer all of my questions in way that makes sense and is easy to understand. She's personable, patient, understanding, and compassionate, and her support and guidance has helped change my life for the better. I trust what she says because I've experienced the results first-hand. I'm so grateful our paths crossed. read more

I'm disappointed to be writing this review, but think it is necessary to warn others regarding this business, specifically related to their billing practices. I was a client of Starkel Nutrition for about 10 months from 2016-2017. I am just now wrapping up a drawn out ordeal surrounding billing that took me 4 attempts to resolve, including 2 requests to speak with the owner that went unanswered. Starkel's issues boil down to this: - The company has inept and/or unethical billing practices that led me to continue services while being actively misled regarding my personal cost. - The company's lack of communication and follow-up led to an unresolved billing that I was still being harassed about over 1 year later. - The owner Julie Starkel's personal lack of follow-up seriously undermines the integrity of the business Ultimately, when Julie finally did get around to replying to my request, she chose to hide behind insurance complexities, rather than admit to any fault on the part of her business. So, I'm paid up on invoices I never received, for services I never would have continued had I not been lied to. I'm relieved to no longer have any reason to interact with Starkel Nutrition. read more

This was my first time ever seeing a nutritionist and let me tell you- they are wonderful! Starkel's care team (especially Aster) are present, caring, and in no way too clinical (I really needed the compassion during ED recovery). Although this is a starkel review, shoutout to Aster, who is 10/10 amazing read more

I highly recommend Riana Giusti as a nutritionist and a good person. When we started meeting, I was pre-diabetic, with fatty liver disease, high triglycerides, high cholesterol, and over weight. Riana has helped me change my lifestyle, helping me to understand that improved health can come with a change of diet, moderate exercise, and adequate sleep. I have a family history of diabetes and have seen how harmful it can be. So I was very motivated to try to make changes. I just needed help with what to do. Riana has been an excellent counselor. She has a thorough academic understanding of nutrition and can explain how her advice is based on scientific research of how food affects our body. She has the capability to be very technical and nerdy, but very graciously, she is down to earth and relatable with her explanations. She has a strong background advising and preparing healthy meals for families and and at restaurants. From that experience, she has been an excellent resource with practical ways to implement my new diet and lifestyle strategy - with recipes, food lists, and encouragement for exercise and rest . Most especially, she has a gentle and friendly spirit. She understands that nutritional health doesn't just follow from what you eat, it also comes from inner kindness that allows your body to open up and receive the nutrients. Riana models the intelligence and kindness that allows for purposeful nourishment and healthy nurture. I am happy to say most of my health issues have been resolved. The only issue that remains is I am still overweight, but 10 lbs less from when I started. Our counseling sessions have now transitioned to support and encouragement so I can maintain my new lifestyle. Riana's gentle promptings help me stay on track. I appreciate Riana's help very much so I can enjoy my later years in well-being instead of struggling with disease. read more

Do NOT use the services of this business, unless you have a ton of extra money you want to waste. My wife went to see them and they convinced her to spend $2,000 for "tests" and then another $200 a month for a bunch of pills. To add salt to the wound, when she missed an appointment, another $125 fee. The focus was completely on taking supplements and very little emphasis on actual healthy eating habits. read more

I can not even begin to express my gratitude for the existence of this clinic! The nutritionists at Starkel Nutrition are incredibly intelligent and at times I have felt that I receive better care and more quality information here than I have working with many different primary care doctors. If your insurance covers nutrition visits I would 10 out of 10 recommend scheduling an appointment at Starkel Nutrition. My health has drastically improved since I started going here.
