I've never had british food before but this was good! There is a bit of seating inside and the also sell some British snacks. The portion sizes are pretty big.

I came here to curb my British food fix. I first found out about them through eliminating food waste through the TooGoodToGo program. The people here are so friendly and I always get mine to go. The decor is very modern English Brit and love that you can feel like you have transported to London when you step foot into the shop. I love their meat pies and normally get that.

The world needs more Stargazy's. Never underestimate the power and satiation of a full english breakfast; in my opinon, beans belong on every plate for every meal. If you start your day with a Stargazy breakie, you'll be fueled for 10+ hours- if not well into the next day. I also enjoy the variety and selection of savory pasties, imported U.K. snack foods, and, of course, brown sauce. The seating inside is extremely limited. They do take orders ahead of time - I recommend it! Dine inside or take to go, you can't really go wrong. I think about Stargazy at least once a week. I'm carefully plotting out my next visit. The real question is: Roast or Fish and Chips?

Traditional Beef and Onion Pie & Mash Side Mash & Liquor. LOL completely devoured this

Absolutely phenomenal! Just went in around opening time and took the food to go! let me tell you... I just wanted to try it in my car, but ended up eating everything because it was so good! I ordered the traditional pie and the mash and liquor and it was wonderful and a great introduction to British cuisine! The traditional pie made of beef and onion was my favorite item of all!!! Im still in my car from finishing the food, but I felt like I had to write a review. Also the guy at the counter who also readied the food was very nice and kind! Will be coming back!

I'd heard of Irish spice bags on Instagram and was curious about this messy drunk food. So when I heard that Stargazy offers them on Sundays, I made a date for lunch. The place is small, but there are complimentary PG Tips tea and a few tables if you want to stick around and eat off proper plates. The spice bag was fried deliciousness: fried potatoes (chips), tender/juicy chunks of fried chicken, a few jalapeño slices, and fried onion strings tossed in paper sack with seasonings and served with a delicious curry sauce. It was everything I'd hoped it would be. I'm. Glad it's 3 miles away, because this is an indulgence I should not have often. The shortbread with caramel, chocolate, and sea salt was also rich, indulgent, and delicious. The tea was a perfect compliment. We left smelling of oil/fried food. Totally worth it.

Delightful place to stop in with wonderful food made with love. A lot of work goes into everything here and you can tell. Very popular spot. Has only a few tables inside to sit at, but lots of take out orders. They also have a big snack rack with assortment of foods and other goods from Britain. As to the food, the roast was wonderful. Perfect amount for a nice heart meal. With greens, potatoes, and a Yorkshire pudding. All smothered in gravy. The paddington marmalade cake was an amazing end to the meal. Definitely want to try a few more of their offerings. Great spot. Thanks

It's a good thing Stargazy is in South Philly and I live in Manayunk - because if I lived closer, I would be here every day. What an absolutely wonderful establishment! The owner Sam is such a lovely human being as well! I love Stargazy's holiday dinner offerings so much that I did them both for Thanksgiving and Xmas last year. They offer smaller portions which is great for me because I'm typically on my own, so I do the 2-person offering. I love that they mix traditional with non-traditional, just boring old turkey is no fun. The cabbage with long hots was my favorite dish in the Thanksgiving dinner. For Xmas, it was my first time ever having Wellington and it. was. AWESOME. I've also had their sticky toffee pudding and millionaire bars and as someone that is not super into sweets, they were both divine. I'm so glad I found Stargazy because they will definitely be a part of my holidays for years to come!

I got English porchetta with potatoes and cream of spinach. It was really delicious. Rich with herb seasoning. They also collaborate with PAWS so on the wall you can read profiles of a cat and a dog for adoption. You can buy some merchandise such as mugs, tote bags, and British snacks and candies.

Fish and Chips (only available on Fridays)
Rosa Z.

I pre-ordered the Fish and Chips (only available on Fridays) to eat in and the Potato Masala pastry to eat later. When I arrived and let them know, that's when they started frying the fish and chips. It took 15-20 minutes, and utensils are in the front left for you to grab yourself. In general, the workers were pretty friendly. The crispy fish was a generous portion and fries tasted good with the tartar sauce. Surprisingly, I liked the mushy peas the best since they added some freshness to the dish. The next day, when I heated up the potato masala pastry in my air fryer, it still tasted pretty good. The spices in the masala and the crispiness of the pastry was great! I would come back here again.

Cheese and Onion Pasty

Pastries so so so delicious. Flaky, buttery, the flavor is so good. Staff is friendly and very cute place to stop for a nice bite. Also got the millionaires shortbread and was so good.

Good British grub - love this little spot. Everything is homemade and the service makes you feel like you're in the front room of somebody's house. For any UK expats in Philly, this is a must.

Sunday Roast Platter
Jack M.

The Sunday Roast Beef was nostalgic, warm, and just a cool meal to eat. Reminds one of a slow family meal on a Sunday in the UK. That said, the roast was a bit tough and grissly in places. And the potatoes were a bit less cooked than I personally prefer. That said, the portion was quite generous. And the service was super friendly. I also got a bacon and apple tart. That was AWESOME. AND that's more in their wheelhouse. The sharp bite of the apple next to the bacon works well. And the pastry was soft, buttery, and flaky as I had hoped.

Bedfordshire Clanger

Ello mate. One dandy morn, mandem hopped on the tube with my mates to South Philadelshire for some Br'ish grub, yeah. The place was tiny and guests may have to squeeze by people sitting down to get to the cashier. The vibes were more "cafe takeout with a few tables" than "sit and stay" full service restaurant/pub. They have a cool mini market offering British chocolates, candies, canned goods, and soft drinks, but did not have any beer or tea for takeout or dine in. Gutted if you're looking for a cuppa or pint. For food, I tried the Bedfordshire Clanger, a long pastry which is half savory and half sweet. The texture is like a nice flakey pie (yum!). The flavors change daily. I had the half lamb / half apple cranberry and thought it was ok, but not incredible. The Friday Fish & Chips were good with the fish being soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. Overall, I rate this place 3/5, which is not meant to discourage anyone from trying it because I just prefer food with more spices and British food is meant to be plain and simple. I would return to see if I like any other food including Shepard's Pie and Yorkshire pudding which were not available at the time. Cheers, bruv

Bedfordshire Clanger: strawberry boar in the front, and blueberry jam in the back. Delicious!

In the era of COVID, ghost kitchens remain a safe and affordable option and a huge treat for us foodies. Operating out of The Twisted Tail in Headhouse Square, What's the Catch promises authentic British staples. Intrigued, to say the least, my partner and I stopped by on a weekday afternoon for a late lunch. We opted for the Cod with the Traditional Beer Batter, and the Haddock with Lemon and Parsley Batter. For sides, we went with the Twice Cooked Chips and the Garlic Parmesan Chips. Each platter comes with a Tartar Sauce, so we added on Malt Vinegar Mayo, Spicy Mayo, and Curry Sauce. Within 15 minutes of placing our order, my phone buzzed -- ready for pickup! We scoped out a spot in Headhouse Square to enjoy the rare day of pleasant weather before digging in. The food was delightful. The batters both sported a fluffy and flavorful crisp. While you couldn't go wrong either way, I personally preferred the complementary flavors of Lemon and Parsley. Neither fish was overtly fishy, but cod filet felt sturdier, whereas the haddock was flakier. For the chips, I don't necessarily think the Garlic Parm was worth the upgrade -- mostly because the standard fries option was already stellar. Wedge-style with a crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, topped with a tasteful portion of finishing salt, these fries rival any others in the city. The standout sauce in my book was the Malt Vinegar Mayo, an homage to the staple condiment in Britain. Immediately reminding me of London, this sauce perfectly complemented both the fish and the chips. The Curry Sauce was also tasty and surprisingly large (can't believe I'm saying this, but I almost wished they offered a smaller option of it!). Otherwise, the Tartar was fairly standard, while the Spicy Mayo was nothing to write home about. The prices are fortunately very reasonable: the $13 "Regular"-sized fish platter had a single, satisfyingly large, filet and a generous helping of fries. With a great combination of flavor, novelty, and price. What's the Catch skyrockets toward the top of the (relatively short) list of Philly chippies. While I question how well the fried options would hold up to delivery, I would definitely swing by again for takeout if in the neighborhood.

Made a reservation and was seated right away…read more Hosts were great, nice and friendly. Our server was a little snappy at the host who was doing what she was told & she was in training. For food; we ordered the Shepards Pie and a caesar salad with grilled shrimp. Shepherds pie was delicious, and a great portion size. The shrimp on the salad were a good size and cooked perfectly. The caesar was ok, the dressing is almost on the sweeter side, definitely not my favorite but it was still good overall. The ambiance of the restaurant is fun and clean. There's seating indoors and outdoors, and a bar area with bar table tops/standing room.
