Amazing breakfast and brunch/lunch!!…read more Tucked away off the main street, this hidden gem is super cosy and comfortable, perfect for sharing food, coffee and stories with a couple of friends. Fresh, super tasty and lots of rich flavours. We shared the vegetarian breakfast, pancakes with jam and maple syrup as well as the bread selection, all delicious! The cornbread is particularly tasty. I'd love a place like this in my own neighbourhood!

Every ounce of KrisKitch shouts "hand-crafted"…read more From the fabulous furniture - chat to the owner about where he sourced the butcher's block, the heavy wooden work benches and the retro chairs (it's astonishing that he didn't keel over after paying for the re-upholstery). To the delectable baked cakes and breads. Everything just feels so tactile and earthy. There's lovely light streaming in the huge front windows if you're sitting inside. Or sit out in the front in the sun. There are brollies in the summer and blankets in the autumn. Pointer - have the tea. Even if you feel like coffee, have the tea! Honestly it's an experience. An olive-wood board with a selection of painstakingly-sourced ingredients : honey, lemongrass, cardamom, fresh mint, cinnamon stick, the list goes on, and a pot of hot water. Yes, you have the option of using the dull little bag of tea leaves you ordered BUT you'll be sacrificing your ingenuity and an opportunity to create a flavour-extravaganza. Throw the bag away, you don't need it! Customers are overwhelmingly mums, grandparents and girlfriends meeting to natter. Recently I sat next to two laptops with people connected to them, but they're a minority.

My favourite place to eat in Crouch End, if I can get a table that is!…read more I'm a big fan of their version of jerk chicken! It was a slight bastardisation of what I'm used to, but even though it's not quite authentic, it was bloody lovely! The addition of a pot of peanut sauce is GENIUS! I opted for a coke float, although I was hoping for a can of Ting or some Bigga Grape, but meh, the coke float was pretty great too! Mrs D had a fry-up which looked great, but couldn't compete with my chicken. It's not a cheap meal out, and some of the staff seem to cope with the constant throng of customers better than others, but I love it here anyway, and I'll definitely be back.

I went travelling for 7 months in between now and then and can sincerely say their food is the stuff you dream about when you're stuck in the middle of a strange country without your home comforts. It was also one of my first stops upon returning to London. My only slight criticism is the amount of time you sometimes wait to be served and perhaps certain staff could be slightly more friendly, but it is a minor flaw in an otherwise great restaurant. I recommend the jerk chicken sandwich, jerk chicken salad and jerk pork chop which is often on special. If you're not a fan of 'the jerk' don't worry, you can't go far wrong with any of the dishes really. And the prices are very reasonable. And as a quick aside I have dined on a table next to Simon Pegg, held the door open for Victoria Wood as she was leaving and there's a plaque claiming Bob Dylan was there in 1993. If it's good enough for them...

Ok - this is a cafe where they serve hot pepper jelly sandwiches…read more Hot pepper jelly is one of the great pleasures of the planet, along with having your back scratched ... and a number of other things that should not be mentioned on yelp. (oh -ok .... chocolate ice cream.) their hot pepper jelly is home made which is good - although frankly i have never had a bad jar of hot pepper jelly, commercial or artisanal. they put the jelly on peanut butter and bacon sandwiches ... which shows they worship at the right gods of cooking. they have lots of other stuff on the menu - and the other stuff is pretty good (sez my wife who i will have to trust.... you can guess what i was eating when we went.) their coffee is very fine - which is saying a lot for crouch end which appears to be running a forty restaurant race to see who can make the best coffee on the planet. (hot pepper jelly cafe could qualify for the crouch end top coffee playoffs) the ambience is crunchy granola hippie cafe. which is my favorite english cafe type (alternatives include plain old working class cafe, ladies' tea room, with full english breakfast, and oncologist's wife luncheon deluxe with croissants) you can get fine breakfasts and lunches at any of these places but i will take the granola hippie cafes any day of the week. so slot this down as a fine place.

I usually order the barbeque chicken sandwhich with green chili sauce on the side with Foccacia bread. The food I will say is of excellent value and nicely prepared. My sandwhich was 4.00 and massive. I also like the tea..it is really hot and none of that PG tips rubbish either! Great cafe!

Previous reviews aside, I think this cute little cafe has great potential. The service on my visit…read morewas phenomenal, the food was delicious, the coffee was on-point, and the atmosphere was both elegant and family-friendly. The interior is pretty lavishly-decorated and the seats are super-comfortable; and no matter where in the restaurant you're sitting, you can be sure to have plenty of space- if not a whole lot of privacy- to enjoy your meal and conversation. They also have a pretty impressive menu with a gamut of vegetarian/ vegan options, as well as heartier meaty dishes, including breakfast/ brunch served all day. For you vegetarians out there, I can say that the Falafel Salad seemed to be a fan favorite at a lot of tables. I always like trying a bit of everything so I went with one of their sweetest options: French Toast with a healthy serving of banana and a berry compote; and a not-so-healthy serving of chocolate sauce and thick mascarpone. Definitely one of the more indulgent French Toasts I've ever had, but not as nauseatingly-sweet as I'd feared upon first seeing it. And that creamy mascarpone cut through the decadent chocolate and tartness of the compote nicely. I can also say that their Breakfast Bap, which is essentially a meaty breakfast sandwich, is also the bomb-diggity, as it sports a hefty amount of egg, sausage, and thick-cut bacon, with an almost comically-small salad on the side. And for those tea and java-lovers out there, yes their herbal teas and coffees are really good. My single-shot oat latte left nothing to be desired. If you prefer something a little stronger, they do have a modest wine selection, though I can't speak to the quality of it. Enjoy!
