My first encounter here was for a navel piercing and while all seemed to go well after battling infection for months and going back for advice (in which Jamie would chastise me every time saying I wasn't following instructions) I took it out and let it close up and heal. Next I decided to get a nose piercing and again went back to Starfire. As she pierced my nose blood started pouring down my face. As the weeks went by I had a constant bump on the side of my nose which I was assured was my issue, even though I followed her aftercare instructions perfectly. At one point about 12 weeks after the nose piercing I went in the store to see if it had been long enough to have a jewelry change. The store was packed and I waited 45 min just to ask that question. I finally saw Jamie standing outside the piercing room just relaxing up against the wall and watching the store. So I approached her and said 'hi, you pierced my nose 12 weeks ago and I was wondering...' she cut me off mid sentence, looked me dead in the eye and said very loudly so everyone could hear 'why are you talking to me? Can't you see I have staff for you to talk to. This is ridiculous for you to be approaching me' I left and never came back. Since then I've had two nose piercings, a navel piercing, and my two daughters have had nose piercings at Trend Kill. Not a spot of blood and never an infection. The owner Jamie believes that since she is the only gig in town she can treat her customers like garbage. The practices here are outdated and inevitably lead to infection. Jamie did not include me in the discussion about where I wanted the piercing placed on my nose, only told me where it should go and that there was no way I could possibly have a spot pierced that allowed me to have a stud OR a ring. But that I would have to be re-pierced one day if I wanted to switch the style of jewelry. What?! So crazy! In addition, the wound care suggestions are not safe. At no point in time should you "scrub and vigorously move your piercings around" when they are brand new. This is not how you encourage your body to form a fistula for the jewelry to live in. My daughter and her best friend from out of state had a pact to get their ears pierced together. We found out that their family could not come and that we would probably have to go to them in order to fulfill their childhood pact. I called Starfire and tried to cancel a WEEK prior to our reservation and they refused to refund the $70 we'd paid for the reservation. Yes, I'm fully aware that this is their stated policy. I would recommend finding a different place to have ear piercing done even if it meant driving to Eugene or Portland. I'm giving 2 stars because of the good quality of jewelry and good result of the piercing. I'd offer 0 stars for the experience and customer service. This place was willing to take more than $100 from us for our child's ear piercing, which was fine; however the staff were neither friendly or accommodating whatsoever to any normal behavior in a child. Normal behavior: like walking, talking, smiling, looking at jewelry. It was also an unfriendly physical environment. There were at least 10 signs placed throughout the store, "Don't touch this," or "Don't do that," or "Keep your children under control." and so forth. Do they think their customers are a bunch of Neanderthals? I'm an engineer and they treated myself and my friend like we were cavewomen who'd dragged our offspring in by the hair. We were warned by THREE different staff members within being there for less than 10 minutes to: not let the children run (they weren't), not let the children jump (they weren't), not let the children touch anything (they weren't), and then at the time of piercing, "She can watch as long as it's not a distraction!" I asked all three of these women whether children were welcome here, as they'd already taken my money. No answer. The only thing that kept me from leaving was that it was important to protect this special experience for my daughters. I liked the quality and selection of jewelry, which is why we came. But honestly it was a bad experience and my children could not even enjoy being kids and getting to smile or show any kind of joy when seeing the other get her ears pierced. read more

I've had several piercings done here... my last experience was really negative so I started going to Dragonfly where I've had extremely good service. Also significantly cheaper. I got second holes pierced in my ear lobes, and from the beginning, I noticed that the jewelry was far too long for my lobe. The guy that works there told me Oh don't worry, you can just come in in a few weeks and have them "resized", like they had just done for my nose. (I also had my nose pierced there, and when the jewelry became too long I went and then they snapped off a bit of the metal to shorten it - for free). So I went in a few weeks later and I was told that there's no such thing as "resizing" and that I would have to buy new jewelry. I explained that the *only* reason I bought the jewelry in my ears was because I was informed it could be easily resized (cut down) like my nose jewelry was. Otherwise I would have bought a shorter size. This is not the case.... and the new jewelry was going to cost me an additional $70. When I continue to press the issue, Jamie became very irritated and rude. I told her I felt like her staff had scammed me a little bit forcing me to buy two sets of jewelry instead of one. But she insisted that no wrongdoing could've been done by her staff. Not only was no discount given to me for anything...but no apology was either. My opinion that is just not a good way to treat your customers especially ones that have come back to you. As I said I'm now loyal customer of Tim at Dragonfly and they do a great job. read more

This team came up with a solid game plan and two visits later before I went back home I had my gold nose ring. I got my first tragus pierced here. It didn't heal, despite following proper care instructions. They told me it takes a long time to heal, so I just kept on cleaning it. I got my other one pierced in Corvallis and had the guy there check out my original one. He looked at it really weirdly and straight up asked if I'd gotten it done in Bend at Starfire. Apparently this shop is well-known for doing a poor job with the tragus. Pretty ridiculous that someone else saw the shoddy work and immediately knew it was Starfire, which isn't even in the same town. My second one healed within three months, just for reference. Eventually I just took out the original one because it never got any better. read more

So I'm giving this shop 2 stars for the knowledge and the staff. That really to me is the only thing it has going. I called the shop earlier just to ask a few questions regarding a piercing I received from a different shop in a different town. Since I travel full time I don't have the luxury of going back to the shop that did the piercing, so I was hoping that I would get some help here. They suggested that I come in to have Jamie look at it and see what she could do. So, I went in hoping I would get some help. The staff was friendly and said that they were sure they'd be able to help me. Jamie came out and asked what the issue was. After I told her the problem I was having first thing she said was that it was done wrong. Okay, I went to a highly recommended shop in Eugene and was pierced by a piercer who is a member of the Association of Professional Piercers. (Which btw I was told by a member of the staff didn't really mean anything anyway. What?! I guess that should have been my first warning. Makes me wonder if Jamie is?) Jamie told me it is not how she does these piercings. So actually it's not necessarily wrong, just done differently. Then she suggested that I have cheap jewelry. Not the case. It is medical grade polished steel. She said she would not touch a piercing that was "done wrong" and she would look if I wanted her too but she wouldn't be able to do anything. She made a few suggestions that I had already heard. So really no help. Honestly I felt she wasn't listening to the problem and just assuming that my piercer did something wrong and that was that. She is knowledgeable I will say that, but honestly didn't tell me anything I hadn't already heard or known. I even told her of something that Elayne Angel recommended and she was shocked that Elayne would even recommend that. Again, giving me the impression that since she wouldn't do it, anyone else who would is wrong. I wanted help and all I got was a little berated and a lot frustrated. It really irritates me when a professional won't listen to the problem. Being a business owner myself, I understand how important it is to listen and not make any judgment until you've heard the entire story. I went here 3 times. Twice to get my nose pierced and once to get my belly button done. Never again. I should've know. Not to go there for my belly button after how my nose turned out. I paid $80 for a nose stud that ends up growing a bump because the metal they put in my nose, I ended up taking it out and the bump was gone.. when I went back in to get it repierced Jamie judged me for how dirty my nose was every single time, I'm a 16 year old girl and I have acne on my nose (blackheads) and Jamie pretty much called my dirty. After getting my nose pierced for the second time and resized once, the bar started to stick out of my nose again so I went back to get it resized again, she said that it shouldn't need to be resized twice and that I had too many boogers in my nose and that it was disgusting. She also commented on my acne again. I'm sorry I don't want to pick my nose everyday. The bump on my nose started to grow back so I finally went to Walmart and bought a piercing from them, the bump went away within hours. When I went to get my belly button done it went great at first, it wasn't irritated the metal was settling nicely. First off, the people working the day I stopped by were extremely friendly and helpful. The jewelry selection is nice but very overpriced. You'll spend a fortune getting a few piercings switched out. I had purchased new jewelry for a piercing I have had over ten years (which never had a problem in the past). They inserted it for me and the process was much more painful than an established piercing should have been. Three days later I had to go to urgent care for antibiotics due to an infection. This is the rudest shop I've visited in Bend, and was the worst experience I've ever had getting pierced. I've had many parts pierced in many different cities. I've only ever encountered rudeness here and I've visited it twice. They try to up sale basic jewelry, they are obnoxious and lecturing, they are indifferent to their customers and insular. The unwarranted amount of poor customer service and negative attitude in general is palpably uncomfortable. They are such a tiny outdated shop, it's ridiculous how seriously they take themselves. I've gone to Starfire for years- they all knew me by name. I am sharing my experience because I think that you should take your business elsewhere to maximize satisfaction with any future piercings. I got my naval pierced at starfire a few years ago. I had my grandpa in the room with me and Jamie made some rude remarks that I brushed off. She began to tell me that my belly button wasn't perfectly symmetrical and she'd have to pierce somewhat diagonally to make it appear straight. I trusted her, but it didn't take long at all for people to realize the piercing was not straight at all and it still is noticeable. However, the piercing did heal nicely. I went in to get my nose pierced. My experience was absolutely awful, the usual gushing blood down the back of your throat as they adjust the hoop to fit your nose, an irritation bump that lasted for months (I've had many piercings before, this was the first time I've ever experienced this issue, following cleaning directions). I went to visit my cousin in Santa Cruz. One of her friends worked at a body jewelry supply based in Santa Cruz (not disclosing name of company), and my cousin, believing that Starfire had charged me far too much for the "gold" ring, asked him how much the piece would originally cost. Apparently, his company supplies a significant amount of Starfire's jewelry and he said, tripling the price, the piece would have cost around $12. I paid over $50 for it. Not only that, but one day I went in to get it changed, and Jamie was nice that day (thankfully, as I was not as afraid of her usual swearing and rude mannerisms). Her "nice" day consisted of her talking poorly about other customers to ME. I've worked in customer service for years. Entirely unprofessional. I proceeded to get my daith pierced while I was in SC. I began talking about my nose ring and the healing issues... This piercer, along with others that I have come across since, stated that most piercers wouldn't dare initially pierce your nose with anything other than a stud. With a stud, as the healing process is more efficient and not as painful. I've heard this now from multiple piercers in multiple states. Do the research and you will see that it is not commonly done and most piercers will refuse to do it. Along with my issues, my sister was facing some problems with her piercings done by Jamie- the infamous tragus issue. My sister's tragus' were pierced too close to her head and the jewelry used was incredibly innapropriate for the healing process ahead- too short, too wide. For months, they were irritated and difficult to deal with. Finally, we went to another piercer- where she was given better jewelry and the healing process immediately went back to normal and she saw a huge difference very shortly. I also got my double helix done. One day, a hair stylist in town (name also will not be disclosed) mercilessly ripped out the bead on my helix ring as she was combing through my hair like a madwoman. As Jamie's studio was the closest to me and I was leaving Oregon the next day and had to finish packing, I went to Starfire to ask if they would put the bead back on, as they (the ladies at the front really) have always been helpful. That day, not so much. I was shocked when the woman was rude to me, as they had usually been the only reason I could bear walking up the stairs and into Starfire, as it was not always a positive experience. They refused to help me, because I had not paid for a "real opal bead" for that ring (I know, I'm a struggling college student) and refused to help me. At this point, I was absolutely flabberghasted. The years I had wasted, pouring money into that establishment with a mean woman who, on her nice days, talks poorly about former customers. I was tired of being charged too much money for simple jewelry and for piercings that were done poorly. Jamie does not have a great reputation around Oregon, as I've had many friends go to piercers in other cities who immediately recognized Jamie's poor work. She makes her own pamphlets, whereas most places hand you information directly from National piercing associations. So, my end note: do yourself a favor, go to Trendkill. The men are well-informed, extremely certified (belonging to said piercing associations), and so much more personable. They charge one standard price that covers up to three piercings at once, rather than charging per piercing including jewelry. They are helpful, funny, and once you go there, you will never want to go to anyone else. I have brought sworn Jamie fans there, and they absolutely agree that Trendkill is a much better establishment with better and more skilled piercers. The drive to Redmond is completely worth a piercing that you'll have for years. You ask anyone that has gone from Jamie to Trendkill, and you will not hear a single person say they regret their decision or that they've ever looked back. read more

Let me start this off by saying I have worked in a piercing studio on and off for several years back in California. After moving to Bend I decided I wanted my septum pierced, but was nervous about finding a new shop. After several months of research and wavering I took the plunge and chose starfire. Mainly for the reason that piercing is their main focus and not secondary to tattooing. Second, I know several people with piercings from Jamie. When entering I was blown away by how nice the place is! The staff were all friendly and knowledgeable without that tinge of snobbery you can run into in shop environments. While I waited I listened to Jamie talk a girl through a navel piercing. She knows her stuff, was quick, and seemed to put the girl at ease. When it came to my turn I scoped out her piercing room which was comfortable, and clean without the terrifying doctors office vibe. I've been pierced several times before and I can honestly say Jamie has a nice light hand, made me feel confident in her abilities, and is really a natural. The entire thing took only a moment and she talked me through the entire process even making me laugh a few times. All in all I would recommend this place to a friend and will definitely return to purchase jewelry when needed. read more

(Long review, worth reading) I am usually a glass-half-full kind of person, easygoing, don't get upset easily, but this is different. I'm writing this review several years after my last experience at Starfire because of a terrible experience my friend just had there. Back when I was naive about piercings, I saw Jamie to start the process of getting my ears stretched. While I sat down on the piercing table in the room, she looked at my other piercings (2 nostril, 4 cartilage) and said that they were all "ugly" (actual words) and pierced wrong. She said to take them out and come back to her to let her do them correctly. I couldn't believe how rude it was. In hindsight, they were all perfectly fine piercings that I had already spent a considerable amount of money on, and she insulted them because she wanted to make some money by taking advantage of a naive teenager. Also, it's important to mention that she acts very, very nice and welcoming. I have a feeling that it's a tactic so that you're not as pissed off when she rips you off. My friend's experience isn't as blatantly wrong as mine was, she went to get 2 lobe and 1 cartilage piercing today, the day I am writing this review. She picked out her jewelry and they didn't tell her how much they cost (granted, my friend didn't ask either). After the piercing when she went to pay, the total was $400. Four hundred mother fucking dollars. What kind of person would allow someone to pick out $400 worth of jewelry without informing the customer of the enormous cost? Probably someone who only cares about making money and not about the wellbeing of their customers. Last note- this part is just hearsay, so take it with a grain of salt. I started going to TrendKill in Redmond instead because of their fairly-priced jewelry and their kindness and honesty. I asked them what they thought about Jamie (the owner of Starfire) and they, reluctantly, said that she had a history of running other piercers out of town by spreading rumors and that she has a monopoly on piercing in Bend. I went into Starfire for the first time yesterday for a septum piercing. They were extremely busy but we were taken care of promptly. The front desk staff were amazing! Talking with them calmed my nerves a lot as they were all very knowledgable and kind. Jamie did a really fantastic job with my piercing. She could tell right away that I was nervous so she was extremely quick with the piercing (which hardly hurt at all) and I was done before I even knew it. I stopped by Starfire the other day with my cousin and was hesitant because of the poor Yelp reviews. We had intended to hit another shop but called and found out that they only did tattoos. However, they highly recommended Starfire. I got my second holes and the conch of my ear pierced. Of course there's always a certain amount of nerves involved with getting a new piercing but the second I started chatting with the girls at the counter my nerves disappeared. They were so friendly and supportive! They pointed me in the direction of the jewelry for the piercings I was looking for and even discussed with me a few other options for piercings that would fit well with my ear. You can definitely tell that they care that you're happy with the outcome. Honestly can't say enough about how cool they were! I've seen a lot of reviews on here about Jamie, the piercer and owner, being rude or unfriendly. I had a great experience with her! She definitely has a more blunt way of speaking which can come across as harsh, but I didn't feel like anything she said was intended to be malicious or unkind. She explained everything every step of the way which was incredibly helpful, including things I would have never thought to ask but definitely needed to know. It was my first cartilage piercing and my first holes had been pierced unprofessionally at Claire's. I didn't have much background knowledge on caring for piercings but she went through everything clearly and carefully and I can't express how much I appreciated it. She didn't talk down to me or criticize my previous piercings, (even though I'm aware they're uneven.) She chatted with me the entire time and totally distracted me from the actual piercing. At the end she even apologized for talking so much because she was trying to keep my mind off the piercing! She also told me because I don't live in the area I could call her shop anytime to get advice if I was buying jewelry for my conch piercing from another shop. A lot of shops will sell you crap that will give you keloids or cauliflower ear if left in your cartilage. She assured me that I could call and explain what the seller had called the jewelry and her staff would let me know if it was legitimate or not. I felt like she went out of her way to be considerate. Super super sweet! I loved coming here and will definitely be back to get my helixes done! They were patient and invested in my happiness with my piercings. Everyone I talked to was exceptional! My only note for anyone coming would be that once you pay for your piercings you're put on a waiting list with an approximate time. They'll call you to tell you when they're ready for you but if you miss your slot there are no refunds and you will be taken off the waitlist. I thought this was kind of ridiculous until I saw how insanely busy they are. The girls at the counter will keep you pretty updated on timeline if you ask though. I mentioned I was going to run to Albertsons super quickly because my estimated time was originally an hour out, but the girl at the counter told me she thought I was super close to being up and I should wait. I'm glad she told me because in the next ten minutes I got their phone call. Moral of the story, go on a day when you have time to sit there for a little bit if need be and don't miss your call!! read more

Okay, so I have never written a review before. The front desk staff at Starfire are awesome! They are kind a friendly and want to help as much as they can. The reason why I only gave this shop a one star is because of the owner who also does all of the piercings. I had my nipples pierced and had to take them out due to joining the military, Jamie stated that I had "cheap jewelry" from a bad shop. I was pierced at High Priestess which is a very well known shop that is highly recommend. Also when entering the room my mother was with me and wanted to see how she was going to remove them, just basic interest in the process, when my mom was attempting to come into the room Jamie literally shut the door right in her face, then when I asked if she could watch she said "sure let's just make a spectacle of this". Also once I lifted my shirt for her to start removing the jewelry she said "wow that looks beautiful" in a very sarcastic tone, I informed her that with my larger bust I constantly get them snagged on things causing redness and swelling sometimes, and also informed her I could've done better keeping up with the salt soaks through the 2-3 years I've had them. She then stated it was because I wasn't taking care of them at all, which is incorrect, and she said that it was because I got pierced at a shitty shop with bad jewelry, even though my jewelry was steel. Long story short Jamie is incredibly rude and thinks that she is the only person in Oregon who has quality jewelry. Take your business to Trendkill in Redmond, they actually care about you and your piercings no matter where you got it done at also they are all friendly. read more

I kept going back to Starfire and never had a good experience. The piercer is the owner and she acts like she is better than everyone and will not do what you want if it is not what she wants to do. Overcharged me for a piece of custom-sized jewelry that didn't fit and had to be removed. Also pierced my cartilages in different places on my ears since my ears are not even with each other but no one notices that, they just notice that one cartilage is pierced at the top and the other in the middle. It looks ridiculous. Showed them a picture of what I wanted (a friend had the piercings) and they said it could not be done but I showed other shops and they were all confident it would be fine. My nose piercing is crooked and so the diamond points at my eye and is not flush with my nose. Jewelry is way overpriced. read more

3 stars for the awesome girls working in the shop, the jewelry variety, and Jamie being good at piercing. Stars taken off for the owner/piercer being rude. Jamie was nice when she initially did my piercing. When I came in for a readjustment she talked down to me like I was a little kid. I don't know if it was just a bad day for her or what but now I know why this shop has so many one star reviews. I didn't go in for her to be my friend so I would go back...But customer service and people skills do have their time and place. Extremely disappointed in what this shop has become. When I lived in Bend 5+ years ago this was my go to place for body jewelry. I was visiting bend for the holidays and was searching for a rose gold septum ring. Although I did find the (almost) perfect septum ring, I was enquiring about it and was told the price was somewhere around $513. I said "excuse me, dollars?!" and she replied with "No, Doll hairs" which first of all, I thought, was extremely rude. Second of all, she proceeded to tell me that it was "pure rose gold" which doesn't exist. Rose gold is an alloy and therefore can only be plated. If someone tells you that something is "pure rose gold" I would turn around and walk straight out of the business because they have no idea what they are talking about. Which is exactly what I did. I will not be returning to this business again. If you are going to charge upwards of $500 for a tiny piece of metal, you should know what you're talking about when describing the piece. Went in and got my nipples pierced. I was told, in front of my sister in law and husband that: *The bars she put in would be fine, because nipples don't swell very much. *Even if they do swell, if the balls sort of indent into the nipple, it's normal. *Don't soak them in salt water, get their H2Ocean spray, (WHICH THEY CHARGED $12, when all piercing shops GIVE IT TO YOU FOR FREE!!) *Be rough on them when cleaning, in the shower with antibacterial soap and move them, to get crusties off. There were other things too, but those are the most important. I told her when I got on the table that clearly my right nipple is bigger than my left. She said she noticed, and that everything would be fine. Thats also when she stated that the bars she picked would be fine, and if they indented it would be normal. The piercing part was great! I barely felt anything. But as I left I notice that the balls on my right side were touching my nipple. I asked my husband who has had his done, and my sister in law and both said they looked really tight. We decided to wait to see if it was just swelling, and because I was told it's normal for them to touch my nipple. About a week later the balls were making craters in my nipple and making it super sore. I called and was told it was normal and to wait another week. We waited about 2 more days and it just got worse, so we went in to see if they would put in another (longer) bar. I was told it was normal and that it was my cleaning regime that was causing it. Which by the way I showered twice a day and, did the salt spray twice a day.They also were going to charge me for new jewelry if I needed a longer bar! Knowing it couldn't be right I messaged another piercer to ask their opinion. I was told I definitely needed a longer bar as their should be at least some room, it didn't have to be a ton, but just enough to allow the holes to breathe. Over 2 days both balls were almost in my nipple, literally. My nipples were forming around them and sucking them in cause the bar was too short. I immediately went in to Trendkill and was told the bar was way too short for that nipple, and that every womans anatomy is different, and no matter what the balls should NEVER be as close as they were. I was also told to NEVER touch the piercing, and also to soak them! The soaks flush out the inside of the piercing to allow better healing, where as the salt spray only cleans the outside. Trendkill charged me $10 for a new bar and gave me lots of great advice, as well as giving me salt for soaking. I also dealt with bad customer service the day I got pierced. She yelled at my kids multiple times when they got excited about the fish tank. Also audibly sighed and rolled her eyes when I asked to let my husband in while i got pierced. And they didn't keep people in order. We watched as she picked and chose who went next, shuffling all the papers, we waited 3 hours. EDITED TO ADD: We also found out that my right nipple (the one that had too small of a bar) was pierced too deep in the inside, which is also part of the reason my nipple tried to swallow the bar & balls. If you're gonna go anywhere I reccomend going to Luke at Trendkill 100%. Never had a bad experience, and they were so helpful!! I will always go to Luke from now on! Always! read more

In the span of 4 years I've spent a little over $1000 on piercings and upgraded jewelry, and in no way am I complaining of the price because you get what you pay for and I returned each and every single time anytime I want a new piece or piercing, because the place was friendly, clean, and reputable. Recently at the beginning of the year, I decided I wanted a new piercing and to have my nose ring put back. It wasnt a pleasant experience with a little snobby attitude but I figured it was a bad day and that was fine with me because I have enjoyed the place for over 4 years, one little hitch wasn't going to make me stop coming back. I return 2 weeks later to have it shortened and the attitude and unfriendliness was still there, at this point it's a little disappointing. Fast forwarding, today I had an mri appointment and needed to get some retainers for my piercings and I ended up spending 100$ on just retainers and requested to have them put in because a lot of piercings I have are difficult, to have Jamie say it's not something she should need to do or want to do because she doesn't make money and it's taking up her time. Mind you there is no in the shop but me. To top it off with rude comments about one piece of jewelry I had that was in fact from the shop it just had different ends. I'm sorry but you would think a repeat customer of 4 years and as much as I've spent there she would be happy enough to do a service for me, even after I spent $100 for retainers from the shop! No longer will be bringing my business or recommending this piercing shop to anyone! read more
