I don't even know where to begin to express my gratitude for Kailah Bartolome at Black Opal Tattoo Studio!! I am absolutely obsessed with my tattoo!!! It's exactly what I envisioned and more! It's beautiful! It's timeless! It's a masterpiece! As someone who has wanted a partial sleeve for awhile and a resident of San Diego, finding an artist who could embody what I envisioned was extremely important to me. Kailah was exactly the artist I had been looking for- I'm so glad I made the trek. From the moment I made the decision to get a tattoo with her, the process was streamlined, professional, and individualized. Kailah was very collaborative with me while planning the piece of art. I valued her professional recommendations, while she supported my vision. Black Opal was located across from the Deschutes River in Bend, which I found super cool and grounding before entering the building. The studio was super clean and decorated incredibly- modern, vibrant, and classy. I felt so comfortable there, and not going to lie, I felt like a total BA. While getting the tattoo, Kailah was able to meticulously ink (Check out the shading on my tatt- so good), while also keeping great conversation with me. We laughed and solved the world's problems, which definitely took my mind off of the pain. Her support team and colleagues were wonderful too! I waited 2 years to be tattooed by Kailah and I was NOT disappointed. She has a very light touch in her tattooing. And to say she has mad skills is an understatement. I'm absolutely in LOVE with my tattoo. It's not JUST BEAUTIFUL but it's everything I wanted. It is big but took us just under two hours. She is as fast as she is talented. I have no bad things to say whatsoever except that I wish I could have done it sooner! I will totally be back for more work though. I stayed for a second tattoo as Aaron Borden was able to fit me in and hook me up with a super special tattoo as well. I really liked him as well. The staff is super friendly, professional. And it's clean but cozy and comfortable in here. Definitely not that sterile smell but it feels like a place to hang out. They make sure you're as comfortable as possible while you're getting tattooed and I feel like they are definitely amazing in the quality of tattoo for what you pay here. Great work. Great place. This studio is so great! I have been tattooed from Kailah a few times over the past few years and she always does an amazing job. She is always so quick and does very clean work that heals perfectly. I also recently got some SUPER cute freckles from Nutasha. Nutasha made sure I felt super comfortable and she exceeded my expectations. The freckles look very natural and I get compliments on them everyday!! Nutasha has also giving I love the chalk wall in the bathroom. 5/22/2020 Update. This is the second time I've gone to Aaron. As usual, Aaron is a true professional. He intently listens to what your thinking in regards to your tattoo and he's a master at interpreting your input and transferring that to your body with his art. I've already scheduled my next appointment. This time I've challenged him to completely remake a 24 year old tattoo. He didn't hesitate to accept the challenge and I can't wait to see the final result in a couple months. I'm currently sitting with the plastic wrap on my arm after the second appointment to finish up my newest ink. Aaron was very kind and professional throughout the entire process. He listened to my ideas during the initial consultation. At the first appointment he was very patient while adjusting his template for my arm. He was even welcome to my addition to the design. During both appointments he made sure I was comfortable, and reminded me that we could take a break at anytime if I needed it. As I was getting ready to leave, he told me that after the tattoo healed if I noticed something that needed attention, let him know and he'd take care of it. To me, that's a person who cares about the craft and wants to be known for doing a great job. BTW, I think that the tattoo looks great too. I have another appointment set to do touch up on a previous tattoo and add another new one. read more

I have gotten two tattoos here, both from Kailah, and I really wish I could give more than 5 stars! My tattoos are absolutely gorgeous and Kailah was beyond amazing to work with. She listened to my needs and what I wanted, and made sure I was comfortable throughout the whole process. The shop is clean and comfortabl, cozy even, and the rest of the staff I have met seems incredible as well. I couldn't have asked for a better experience for my very first tattoos.
