Shout out to a Roger and the entire crew on the rooftop! They're an absolute vibe and made my quickly drop in so much fun! I've stayed at the hotel a few times now, but always during really busy work trips. After my work obligations, I'll usually see my sister or friends in the city so my time back at the hotel in the evening is usually very limited. Luckily for me I broke free a little early one evening and was finally able to check out the charming rooftop. The views are epic but it still feels beautiful and cozy. But on top of that the team here is amazing with the absolute best energy. They alone gave me reason to return! Thanks to the rooftop crew for making my first visit a memorable one! read more

More of a three and a half star experience, but I'm boosting it to four because of the view and service. The view really is the star of the show here when you can enjoy the outside. The drinks are great, too, but both the lychee martini and lychee margarita were too tart for my taste. They make them sweeter in WNY and Ontario. The space is cramped. No matter where I stood I felt like I was in somebody's way until we were able to sit. I'm not sure if they can fix that. They're making the best of the space they have to work with, I think. What can be helped is the bathrooms. The disco balls and music are great, but they do not distract from the scene below. I thought the poor girl before me made a mess but when I tried to clean the seat, apparently it just had little stains everywhere that wouldn't come out. So then I had to worry about the person after me thinking the same thing I thought about the girl before. It was surprising, because we had a room at this hotel. We ate at the restaurant. We went to the other cocktail bar. Everything was impeccable up until the last night when we came here. read more

Aside from the very expensive prices, I really enjoyed Starchild. They have both indoor and outdoor rooftop space with amazing NYC views. Yes, it's a little touristy but it'd smack in the middle of Midtown by Times Square so it's expected. Service was good and the staff were very friendly. Food was good, it's a small menu so it's more for light bites with cocktails. We had the mezze, salmon cones, tater tots, and sliders. The sliders took forever to come out. The drinks were very good. My husband's Manhattan cost a whopping $30. I liked my spicy margarita. Overall it's a great spot in the area, especially for summer rooftop season. Make a reservation, by 5:30pm they're packed. read more

Amazing spot, location is great! Big enough for a party but intimate enough for connection. Bold and unique décore, feels like outdoors but up high but yet a whole diff feel from other city rooftops. Let's just say I'm Impressed. Service was attentive and timely. Food was good, unfortunately that night there was no hot food, kitchen incident they said. Nonetheless, drinks were beautifully made. The Dj did a good job spinning, vibe was nice. I'll definitely go again. read more

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Civilian Hotel below on a Wednesday night in April, and decided to check out Starchild for a cocktail before going out for dinner. We came around 5:30 so it wasn't crowded at all and thus our drinks came out quickly. The ambiance is unmatched. Chill music, plants hanging from the walls and ceilings, big windows with lots of natural light, a spacious outdoor deck with gorgeous views of the city and the sun slowly setting over the Hudson in the distance. The bartender made it even better. When my girlfriend apologized for taking awhile to make up her mind, he said something to the effect of "take your time - you're on the rooftop now." Like island time, time bends and slows around a NYC rooftop. We had a great time here and would definitely come back. read more

Was looking for a rooftop spot nearby to catch a nice view of the city and ended up finding this place. Getting in was honestly the hardest part, it's pretty confusing. You have to go through a lobby and find the elevator to access the rooftop, and there's not much direction. We even had to ask a local for help, and ran into a few others who were just as confused. Once inside, there didn't seem to be a host, so we followed others and grabbed seats at the bar. The bartender helped us right away, and service from there was smooth. We ordered a tequila soda and a margarita. Both good, but prices are definitely on the steeper side, even for simple drinks. After getting your drinks, you can walk around to the balcony and enjoy the view. It's a nice spot to relax, chat, and take in the city. Overall, aside from the confusing entry and lack of direction, it's a decent rooftop spot with a good vibe and views. read more

Last Friday as my friend and I were exploring NYC, we decided to end the night at Starchild, one of the most stunning rooftop bar that I have ever been. Although the ambiance was electric inside, we sat outside to enjoy breathtaking views of Midtown, Times Square, and the Hudson River. I already had dinner but couldn't resist ordering the Truffle Parmesan Tater Tots, an explosion of flavor in my palate. I also enjoyed the Coco Nutz Espresso Martini, a glorious cocktail that made my night feel even more indulgent. I want to go back to NYC so I can relive such an incredible night. read more

I absolutely love this bar! It has such a fun vibe to it. It's disco themed which is such a fun theme. I highly recommend the flatbread it was delicious! They also have a photo booth and one of the coolest bathrooms I've ever seen with disco balls, lights, and music. We had such a good time here. We went on a Thursday night at 9pm when they were having a DJ playing vinyl records. read more

Looking for a rooftop bar after seeing a show at one of the many theaters in the area? Starchild absolutely could be your spot! Beautiful character & energy from the "love me a little louder today" painting & seemingly galaxy-inspired lights that greet you upon entry, to the lovely disco ball & plant populated area that is this 27th floor bar. Welcoming service at the host stand, house beats effortlessly spun by the DJ, a vast menu of cocktails with fun names & ingredients (Rooftop Riot was my fave), & GORGEOUS NY skyline views rounded this experience out perfectly. 1 star deducted for the frequently missing in action server. Otherwise, a solid venue that I'll keep on my NY faves list. read more

Great location, space, decor and views. Great drinks. Food is the issue. Horrendous food that does not fit the decor/level of the place at all. Jello shots?? come on.. All the apps I have tried have been well below par for a place like this. Need a new chef badly. read more

Awesome NYC rooftop cocktail experience! We went on a Friday evening and were lucky enough to find seats at the inside bar to wait for a small table to open up on the outdoor open patio area.....and it did. When we stepped out, we were so excited to sit at the glass wall with the beautiful view. What a wonderful setting! The handcrafted cocktails were well made and the service outstanding. We ordered several appetizers, Marinated Olives, BLT Lettuce Wraps, and Whipped Ricotta. Quality bites that were all really tasty and enough for the 4 of us to consider it dinner! We will return here on our next trip to the city! read more

A hidden gem with incredible views!!! On our way to see the rockettes, we came across this place and it did not disappoint. The service was quick and even though it was cold we had to sit outside to take in the phenomenal views. We did not get any food but got some cocktails which were delicious. While they were a little expensive, it's New York so, to be expected. Can't wait to take friends back here when we come back to NYC in the future. read more

The service was abysmal. We checked in with the host and were told it was a 10 minute wait and then walk ins were sat before us. The music was overly loud and not good, couldn't even hear the conversation I was having, or my own thoughts for that matter. Then 30 minutes later, when finally greeted by our waitress, we ordered two drinks that never came. Was there for an hour and was never served. Would not go back. read more

Christmas in NYC is always super magical and super special, especially when you're celebrating the season with amazing friends. During our visit, we decided to check out Starchild Rooftop Bar & Lounge on the 13th floor above 48th Street; which is attached to Rosevale Kitchen & Rosevale Cocktail Lounge (as well as Civilian Hotel). What a treat! This rooftop bar not only offered a warm place for my friends and I to sit and chat, but a wonderful extension to our holiday celebrations with great views of New York City, terrific drinks, and wonderful light meals, which were perfect for sharing. Surprisingly, for a midtown Manhattan establishment with wonderful views, the prices were not bad at all. I'd like to pay extra attention to the staff for not only Starchild lounge bit for the restaurant and lounge as well. Everyone from the hostess(es), to our waitress, to the bartenders weee all super chill and helpful; and we could tell that they really enjoyed their job. In fact, it was pajama@night, so all everyone was dress in their favorite holiday bed-ware. Menus items chosen included: - TUNA TARTARE Capers, Cucumber, Pepper, Potato Chips - SOFT BAKED PRETZEL Honey Mustard, Beer Cheese, Tabasco Mayo, Hot Honey - FRENCH BREAD PIZZA Baguette, Mozzarella, Marinara, Basil, Pepperoni I'm really looking forward to revisiting this location to not only eat at the main restaurant, but to enjoy some live jazz (Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays) in the cocktail lounge. I came here on a Saturday night with a 9:15p reservation. I got there early and they were able to seat me without the rest of my party. They have bar food on the menu which didn't have many options. Most options were $20. The charcuterie looked tasty but I got the olives and nuts snack. Drinks were around $20 each. I got a lemon drop which was super good! Would I come back? Probably for brunch for a better selection of food. At 10pm the party starts which includes bottle service options. The DJ was great! read more

the only points I can give are for the view. It was beautiful and the disco bathroom was a nice touch. Outside of that I was SUPER impressed underwhelmed. They market their espresso martinis everywhere and that's why we decided to go there but unfortunately they had "no espresso available" so weren't able to try them. The food was visually pretty but the chips in the chips and caviar were super stale and the serve was terrible. Our waitress took our orders and brought them out pretty fast too. The views are amazing. The drinks themselves are well executed and strong. I recently had a partial buyout at this space for the branding agency I work for. After many site visits to rooftops in the city, that didn't hit the mark, this location seemed too good to be true. It fit the bill for what our company was looking for, the comped drink and appetizer I tried were delightful, and the staff came off as kind and hospitable. So I decided to sign on board for our event! Everything before the day of the party was smooth sailing. I was ecstatic about how simple it all was to coordinate. So on the event day, I expected nothing but the same experience. Well, that couldn't be farther from the reality I came into... An hour before the event, I got an email that said my party was canceled. I was taken aback by this and decided to call, to find out what was going on before I got upset. This honestly came as a shock, as I had 35 people who were about to travel to this location cross-town. After speaking with the manager on-site, he explained that it was a mistake and the party was still on, just that there was a mistake with the booking system. I calmed myself down, after being reassured everything was fine, and headed out to the rooftop. Upon arrival, when being brought to the section that I was offered upon visiting, they had put the ropes to the buyout behind the DJ booth, and I was told we would have it from the front of the DJ booth to the back area with a patio. Trying not to make a big deal of it, as people were already seated at the table, I just rolled along. They brought out the trays of charcuterie that were quite beautiful and large and placed them on the tables in the area with the water. I was hoping things would just move along smoothly moving forward for the next three hours. I sat down with my co-worker at a booth in the back, and I ordered the exact drink that I had when I came for the site visit, as there were menus in the area when we sat down. I was informed by the waitress, who was lovely at her job, that none of the drinks on the menu were included because they were pre-batched and they couldn't make them with the drink package we chose. This was confusing, as that was not explained to me prior. Normally the space would make the same drinks with whatever liquor package we chose, and there was no menu with what was included for us. So I screenshot the drink package on the contract and quickly sent a team message to everyone coming. As my team started arriving, the rooftop staff started to bring out canapes, which I had asked prior not to be brought out until 7:00 PM as I didn't want people to be too intoxicated with no food to eat. But in all honesty, I noticed that most of my co-workers were just standing around without drinks. The waitress was hustling, but the event started at 6 PM and everyone did not have a drink by 7 PM. I asked if people could go to the bar, and she explained that would overload the bar and that we need to order through her. This is a partial buyout for 35 people, it's not a few friends sitting for some drinks on a rooftop, and the rate at which things were moving were glacial. I expected there to at least be two servers or a bartender dedicated to us for the party. During all of this chaos, I'm playing security for my event. There are people not affiliated with our event, coming over and trying to take pictures in the area we've rented, which is roped off with a sign. At least eight times, I had to get people out of the area, from taking food or sitting on the patio. The site manager was not even assuring this didn't happen. Why am I doing this for a party that I am hosting? It was just absurd on so many levels! 8:30 PM rolls around and the staff starts cleaning everything up. I ask them what's going on, and am told that there is ANOTHER buyout directly after ours and the party needs to be set up. Are you kidding me? We are on a corporate spend, even if the party ends from what I've planned, people are going to pull out their company cards and drink afterward. I've rented plenty of spaces for these quarterly social gatherings and have never had that happen before. I even told them when booking, that my CFO tends to extend the party, he just is frugal to start. So I hustled my staff out to the bar towards the entrance and ran into the marketing director ( great personality) for the rooftop on the way out. I explained that this event did not meet my expectations, he gave me eight drink tickets and asked me to stay and have a drink with the team. After the night of endless mishaps, I felt it was best to get my employees out of there, so we went to a bar down the street to continue drinking on spend. Just because we're not a full buyout, doesn't mean the service should be terrible. I tried contacting the rooftop twice before writing this review and was sent an email saying that the remaining balance was charged to the credit card. Do better business. Please avoid booking your gatherings here and spend your money elsewhere. Absolute chaos! read more

After having drinks downstairs at the cocktail bar and dinner at the Kitchen, we decided to have a nightcap up on the roof. I was pleasantly surprised at how low key this was for a rooftop bar. We were promptly seated and ordered our espresso martinis (non frozen). The view is really great and we were able to catch a lovely sunset. I had the worst new years of my life here. The staff and management were completely unprepared for an event as big as new years. Let's start with the fact that we were towards the front of the line and still didn't enter the venue until around 10pm and the event started at 9pm. There was no coat check (in the winter) so we had to hold our coats the entire night. We paid for an open bar (shots not included) and our drinks were maybe 1oz of alcohol only each. The event was advertised as having three bars and there were only two. I voiced my concerns to a manager and all they said was "sorry." If I could rate this place -1 stars I would read more

Honestly, such a great view of the city. Good bar service, but bad service. I made reservations for my best friends 27th birthday. Went arriving I agreed to wait an extra 25 minutes for the terrance view. (Highly worth it) We enjoyed drinks at the bar, music and chatting with people around. Drinks are good. But nothing special. After 25 minutes we where greeted and then walked to our reserved table. Overrated, overpriced. The air of exclusivity is laughable for nothing special. Came here for a birthday party and had people invading our space nonstop, very poor waitress service. Half our table left to stand at the bar to get drinks which had a line anyway. I'm diabetic and had a low blood sugar while standing in line outside despite having a table upstairs with 12 people at it; and when the first thing I did was order a juice with no alcohol at the bar, they cut with water or soda water. Unbelievably cheap. If you sit at the couch that backs up onto the outside deck sliding door it will drive you nuts because every time someone opens the door it rattles the whole couch and bumps into it.
