As a new resident here in Golden Hill, my friend always boasts about how great the Starbucks at 28th and B is. Now after being here for about two months I must agree. My experiences here have been phenomenal, the location is always clean and the staff is always amazing and attentive. I travel a lot and go to a lot of Starbucks but this one is special with employees like Maddie and the manager Em who are always bright and welcoming and get your drink out lightning fast and with a smile. Em makes sure her staff makes you feel like Cheers where everyone knows your name. My local Starbucks. Ive been visiting this location since 2013 when I lived outside the neighborhood and commuted to Del Mar for my first corporate job. I ordered ahead using the Starbucks mobile app at this location, and the app said my drink would be ready by the time I arrived. But when I got there, I still had to wait 10 more minutes before receiving it. There were plenty of workers behind the counter, and I wasn't greeted or acknowledged when I walked in; but the customers who came in after me were greeted. To be fair, the drink itself was fine, and the staff didn't come off as rude. It might've been a busy moment. To preface, this is my go-to location before work and has been for a few years now. There's only one good barista here. They're the only reason this place isn't getting 1 star. Every morning they're not working, the drink is inconsistently made. Might as well been have churning butter with how much heavy cream they put in my cup this morning. I always use the app and place an order for pickup because it's the most convenient option for me and a lot of others. The order status on my phone *never* matches what the status of the actual drink is. I'm not sure how the process works, but I assume someone acknowledges the order which sends the "got it" status to my phone. Then same thing when someone starts making it and then when it's done. They're never busy when I arrive and there are about 4-5 baristas behind the counter. I have watched them get the order, make my drink, and put it out while the status in the app never changes. So if I'm sitting in my car waiting to get my drink as to not crowd the inside on the rare days it becomes crowded, I will never know the status of my drink is. One of my pet peeves is when people cannot do their jobs correctly. I'm in an engineering field so I see it a lot and am perpetually perturbed. To see a coffee shop being operated the way this one is, nearly every single morning, is beyond me. Can't be sure if it's the training they're receiving (or possibly not receiving) or the people themselves, but something absolutely has to change. I come to this location often and I'm finally writing a review because I'm a little frustrated at my order being incorrect for the 6th time. I've come up with a drink order that should be mistake proof , 4 espresso shots in a grande cup with extra ice and a little cold foam on top.Just about everytime I've ordered this drink at this location my coffee always has soooo much cold foam that I'm damn near getting a sugar rush not a caffeine rush and I end up throwing my drink away because I don't even want to drink it. Update: Today, i went and guess what.  I ordered it from the app. 3 items of my prder were together, and the other drunk was on a different  box .  Is ok it only took me a few minutes, but I was out of there , did not ask for a bag. SAD! there was no human connection at all. No, hi or how are you? or how can I help? ... Literally just went inside . grabbed and go . Sad, but  I guess that is where this world is headed. Do a mobile order for Starbucks. Haven't been there in a while because of a few other issues try to give them another chance was great. Picked up my order went to the vet. It's an hour wait at the vet so I'm walking the streets and I stumble upon another Starbucks while I'm waiting I go in to see if I can use the restroom and explain to them that I had a mobile order. I'd picked up just minutes earlier if I could, please use the restroom they replied "NO". I explained I've been a customer at Starbucks for more than 15 years and I had just recently had an order with them that I picked up on the way to my vet appointment. It didn't matter. They still strongly said "NO" , "if we do it for you, we'd have to do it for everybody" well yeah if everybody were a Starbucks customer, but everybody isn't a Starbucks customer, shouldn't you treat your customers as customers? Those who worship coffee's delight, beware his power Jorge's polite!~ Whenever I see that Jorge is working the atmosphere instantly changes. The drinks are always just right, the cleanliness of the store is S tier, everything is stocked and shelved accordingly. If you do not regular this Starbucks you are doing it wrong. This place was the best when I first found it. Service was for the most part good. Lately it's so busy that it's taking a toll on CS. The mobile pick up window isn't being used so there's 20 people in the small lobby waiting for coffee. Plus 1/2 the time my brown sugar shaken espresso doesn't have any flavor but oat milk leading me to believe they are not adding the brown sugar/cinnamon or even the 4 shots that's suppose to be in it. You'd taste the espresso for sure like I do at my other location by my work. I've tried explaining to the manager about their recipe compared to the other ones I get this drink from and they make excuses. Example I was told because I get lite ice it makes it taste this way. I CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT JUST HAPPENED!!! I went inside this location to place an order for 3 pastry items. As I am standing in line for about 3 minutes, I was told Oh, I am sorry Sir but we are closed." When I came in the door was open and the employees were talking, so when did they close, when I came in (I really don't think race played a part in this, but at this point I am questioning it.) How could I be in the store for 3 min and in line and then be told that they are closed. I would love for a Manager from this location to respond or someone from Corporate to respond, because this was really an embarrassing moment and not the way Starbucks that I have known and love handles business. I was in a line with a white gentleman in front of me who had just finished ordering and my turn was supposed to have been next. I guess not at this location. Don't get me wrong, the people and service here are nice. They are never rude and always kind. However, they have the worst mobile order system ever. There's about 15-20 people outside waiting for their mobile orders they already placed. My mobile order was ready at 8:47 and I could see it on the shelf just sitting there. But I had to wait for other people to get their mobile orders that weren't even ready. I literally had to be a karen just to get my order and point to the man outside that my order was sitting on the shelf. My croissant is now cold. I was appalled by my experience! I waited almost 30 minutes for an iced tea. Once I got it, it was all ice and no tea, but was not going to complain as the barista was already so rude. When I asked her if there was a black iced tea coming, she responded with "I don't know". I asked if she saw my name, she then responded with "I don't know" again. This a very nice neighborhood Starbucks in the heart of Golden Hill. I stopped in after visiting a friend nearby to grab an Americano and a everything bagel. I noticed while I was there, a lot of the employees know a lot of the repeat customers by name. I thought that was very cool. My Americano was great as usual. My update on this Starbucks is long overdue and they have earned this fifth star. The staff recently wrestled the corporate giant that ties them down and went to bat for me and I greatly appreciate it. I was a black coffee only guy for many moons but then kicked the habit and moved onto decaf hot tea. For months they had a slew of great teas but I think I personally wiped them out of their supply. For a few weeks it was constant apologies telling me that they were really low on everything and that my favorites in particular had run dry. "We promise, we've ordered but the Starbucks ordering system sucks when it comes to the stuff we don't burn through quickly." I don't doubt it!
