The staff there is so friendly and nice and they know my name and they always remember my order! It's like being at cheers bar only with Coffee lol..... So it's New Year's Day and it's pouring rain and I need a cup of coffee. I'm on my way to the airport so I order online and when I get there, people are hiding behind the shadows and finally someone is looking out the window and I said I just ordered my coffee. Can I pick it up and they're screaming at me that two people called in sick and the manager is not answering their phone. I suggest that they turn off the online ordering but they tell me they can't or they'll get fired. Good service recovery would mean that they would contact me and refund me my 20 bucks but never heard from them, it's no wonder people never want to go there anymore. 3.5 stars. When we lived in San Diego, this Starbucks in Hillcrest was one of our regular spots to get coffee. When we visit back home, we still hit this place up. Located at the Hillcrest Colonnade, there is convenient street parking in front of the shoppe as well as more spaces in the private lot. The venue has gone through some renovations from decades ago. Back in the day, they offered indoor and outdoor seating. Gone now are the seats inside, so sticking around to drink al fresco could be uncomfortable during rainy days or when the weather is extreme. Perhaps I missed it, but the public bathroom also seemed to disappear in the new interior. Remodeling definitely didn't have customer experience as top of mind. At least you can still count on the consistency of the quality of drinks. Starbucks follows recipes with exact measurements, so being served a drink that tastes off from what you expect is a rarity. The Hillcrest locale has somehow succeeded at hiring great team members. Service is always friendly and accommodating. Our most recent visit here was on the evening of December 1, 2024 at around 6:35 PM. The staff gave us excellent service and amiably warm conversation. As I mentioned, Starbucks Hillcrest is a regular spot for us, so we will definitely return. Likely just to grab a cup of joe to-go or to hang out short-term solely when weather permits. read more

This small Starbucks on the main stretch of Hillcrest is really convenient. It's right off the sidewalk, at the entrance of the parking lot of the plaza. I have gotten my coffee here numerous times and I'm always happy with it. If they happen to make it wrong, just let them know and the barista would just make you the right one and they were never rude about it. This starbucks has always been fast. I usually grab an americano and it's done within a few minutes. The location is right in the heart of Hillcrest, across from a few fitness clubs, and in the same plaza as a bunch of food and consumer places. Parking is in abundance around the building, some is paid and some isn't. The patio area is a decent size. There are about 20 bar seats the face the street, and 4 or 5 tables if you have a bigger group. Other than that there is about 30 seats inside. I came in to order my fix, Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino. I was expecting chaos because of Pride Parade. The store was packed with customers shoulder to shoulder like sardines in a can. Yet, no customer got deterred by the scene. Every body that entered the door headed toward the line and never question their decision. I, myself, chose to join the frenzy. After standing in line for 5 minutes, I glided toward the front. By the time I knew it, I stood facing Steven, the cheerful barista who greeted me with his bright teeth. Got my order in and patiently waited for Strawberry (green hair barista in the pic) to announce my name. I was pleasantly surprised of how efficiently the staff were. Want to bring your attention to the manager (woman on the left of pic) who made it happened. She had staff covering the 2 registers, making drinks and calling out names to whom the drinks belonged to. All stations dealt with successfully. Left here feeling impressed. What a great assembly line! Very efficient! Awesome job of getting customers their fix in a timely manner. Great teamwork Starbucks staff! They've always been there for me, which is a fairly easy task as you'll often find two or three within a single city block. We've been able to pick up bags of coffee beans from this location without having to battle a crowd or really interact with anyone at all. Sure, I love human interaction but there is a time and a place for that. At this point in time, Starbucks is not that place but they are still serving up a product that I not only want but can also receive with both parties (Starbucks and me) both doing our part to stay safe. I drove to Starbucks to get a coffee, read my book, and use the restroom. When I asked to use the restroom, I was told they don't have one and was directed to use the taco shop across the street, but I would have to buy something. I am really glad that I am not a coffee drinker and not relying on getting a coffee every day from Starbucks because dealing with them is so exasperating. I'm not feeling great today and stopped for a hot tea thinking it would be easier to pickup one on the way into work...I was grossly mistaken. Ordered through the app and made a stop before arriving. Parked curbside and used the pointless "I'm here" feature on their app and sat there in my car. One other person was seated in their car clearly waiting for their order too. After 10 minutes or so he went inside and got his. I let another few minutes go by and did the "I'm here" again and sat. I sat in my car for 20 minutes and took two phone calls and no one ever came outside. I went in and said I wanted to cancel the order and the person behind the counter went over and found a tray with my order just sitting there ready to go outside. He said as if it was no big deal "oh I guess we just didn't bring it out." What is the purpose of having curbside if you don't actually bring the order out. If your slammed shut off the feature because we all know that is possible for them to do. They were not slammed. As I said I sat there for 20 minutes and I watched the people come and go and could see inside. This is the third time I've come to this location in three months and I won't be back. Omg!!! Where do I begin? I order an iced caramel macchiato from this location and it was all milk. I brought it up to the staff and what I think is the manager and she proceeds to tell me that's how it is. Ummmm no... I get this all the time, like 8 years running. As someone who is in management I like to observe and I couldn't help but notice how she was helping the elderly and making sure they had everything they needed at their table. I'm pretty sure I went this Starbucks every time I visit San Diego. It's in a great location and seem to be consistently busy. It's in the heart Hillcrest and very gay. Try spotting a woman in here. She'll likely be behind the counter. LoL. It's fairly small for being the only one in the vicinity. I'm definitely a fan of the outdoor seating, as San Diego weather is so amazing. The staff seem friendly enough but not very talkative. Service is not the quickest. Took a while for my black iced coffee to come up. Ok... I'm giving a star to the morning crew today and by crew I mean the two really hard working people in the understaffed location. The girl who took my order was SUPER friendly and she had a line to the door. I ordered a drink and a breakfast sandwich. I got my drink and asked the Barista about the breakfast sandwich. He asked the girl who took my order and she said she hadn't started it yet. She looked at me and apologized. I didn't mind because she was clearly working as hard as she could to take care of the line. The Barista was super cool and went and made the sandwich. This Starbucks edge over other ones, is the outside seating. It's shaded or unshaded, depending on time of day and angle of sunlight. In the evening it's definitely a pleasant experience. The baristas are 4 out 5 times friendly. I write that 1 not so friendly time off as the situation with the homeless and looney folk around Hillcrest. Decent Starbucks in a great location in the Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego. This is a short distance away from the Hillcrest Farmers Market. The coffee shop is a bit on the smaller side. I felt like the space was a little bit too packed with some tight spaces. i did see a sign that they will be renovating this store though. If you are not finding any seating inside, there is a nice outdoor patio seating area here. Though I would take a seat inside since the AC here is powerful. Making it a good place to cool off. Had a basic grande iced vanilla coffee here. It was alright and typical of other locations I have ordered this from. The only thing is that I feel like there is always too much ice in it which makes me think twice about ordering this. Might have to request less ice next time. If you are in the Hillcrest area, this Starbucks is a good spot to pick up a drink. If you are looking for a coffee shop to lounge at, this might not be it as the interior is smallish. But if outdoor seating is more your thing, in that case I would suggest this Starbucks as the patio seating area here is good. read more

Usually this location is on point but I just hate it when you ask for a extra shot of espresso in my caramel frap and they don't add it in.
