Most of us think that chain locations are all the same, and for the most part, I think they are too. I was in downtown Sacramento, and decided to stop at a Starbucks that I literally have driven by for years, and I've never gone inside. Today was the exception. It was early, I hadn't eaten, and I definitely wanted a quick bite and a drink. As luck would have it, there was parking right in front, and I found out that apparently they have a small parking lot behind the store. If you frequent the downtown area, you know parking has become a premium, and it's almost impossible to find. The store wasn't particularly clean, and the homeless people sitting out in front of the store, certainly are a deterrent, but I headed on in anyway. The staff was super friendly, and a big improvement based on some of my other Starbucks experiences. I ordered egg bites, and a new to me drink. The drink was suggested by one of the barista's and he nailed it! They weren't particularly busy, but there were people that look like they've been camped out at a few of the tables either working, or just hanging out... And then it happened. Some belligerent woman who apparently had ordered one small drink, and then asked for three large Venti size cups of ice water, proceeded to empty the entire drink bar into her handbag and whatever else she was caring. This is the bar where customers can pick up sleeves for their hot drinks, napkins, salt, pepper, sugar, etc. She literally was shopping for condiments. One of the baristas in a very low voice, very politely asked her if she would refrain from taking so much and she turned around and at the top of her lungs started screaming about how she is a paying customer and she's entitled to take whatever she wants. She then went storming out of the store, spilling half of her water, which of course is free all over the place. Welcome to Midtown/downtown Sacramento. I felt bad for these two barista's, because they're hired to make drinks and serve up, heated food, etc. and instead they get yelled at apparently quite frequently from what I gathered, when I looked at one of the barista's and was told this happens frequently throughout the day, every day The red pepper egg bites were as tasty as they always are, and it's my easy go to. Quick bit of protein, and it's not too heavy. The new to me drink was the cannon ball! It's actually a very cool drink. I did make a mistake and I forgot to tell them to hold the water in the drink, but that really is not a big deal. It's a strawberry açai with mango, and I always request light ice. They mix the drink and then they put the inclusions at the top, and one of the inclusions is dragon fruit. The moisture from the drink is absorbed into the fruit and slowly, but surely this very clear drink turns different shades of pink and purple. It's really cool to watch the ombré look of the drink, and it was really pretty tasty. I asked them to make sure that it was light on sweetness, and it was made perfectly. Great service, crazy customers, but definitely a store to be visited! read more

This Starbucks location is incredibly fast, clean, friendly, and professional. I was amazed how immediate I received my drink and the overall ambiance of this location. It wasn't just the staff that was friendly, but also the customers. That's a rarity for me when it comes to coming to a chain and the consumers actually match the quality of nature as staff. My Vanilla Bean Frappuccino was made perfectly and I appreciated the "Thank You!" written in excellent cursive at the top of the cup. 5/5. read more

Yes it still feels weird to rate a Starbucks. Who is reading these reviews and determining whether or not to come to this location? Anyway. The fact that they have dog photos up is enough to merit five stars from me. I asked and they're the customer dogs, not the employee dogs, but they have a Polaroid camera if you ever wanna bring your dog in to have him or her up on their wall of fame. The service is also nice and the coffee is as good as Starbucks can be, which is to say, not fantastic. Parking is fine but I always have to pull in the "do not enter" direction which makes me feel bad. It's small inside but there's enough Starbucks locations around that we customers can all cumulatively fit inside one somewhere in our area, I'm sure...lol. read more

On such a lovely day, this is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon enjoying Iced Green Tea and people watching. The staff was pleasant and the service on par with other locations. Also, I ordered venti salted caramel macchiato that specifically says on the print, "SALTED". Can you see any salt at all? And coffee taste like ordinary coffee. What the heck Starbucks??? I have been getting the same drink every day, a salted caramel cold foam cold brew, from any of the many downtown Sacramento Starbucks for years. On May 2, 2025, I picked up my drink from the 19th and J store, and was disappointed because it wasn't filled to the top. To me, the foam is the best part, and leaving a quarter inch of room meant there was significantly less foam than usual. The barista noticed my disappointment and asked what was wrong. He had already thrown away the extra foam left in the frother, or I would have asked him to just add it to my drink. Instead, I let him know why I was disappointed. None of this is a big deal, but what happened next was unacceptable. The man apologized that every other barista at every store including his had been making my drink wrong all these years, and explained that he and only he had made it correctly. That is NOT the way to deal with a dissatisfied customer who visits Starbucks every day (often more than once a day because I like both their breakfast and lunch options). I was so flabbergasted that he made the situation about himself and that he just wanted to argue with me that I left, but if that's what Starbucks' idea of customer service is, these days, I'll have to give some real thought to exploring other options. I'll give it 2 stars instead of 1 because the other baristas there are lovely, but that never should have happened. read more

I absolutely love this location. I'm always greeted with a smile here, literally every employee I've interacted with is a sweetheart. My order is always made correctly and comes out quickly. I witnessed a barista walk out an order to an elderly man who relied on a scooter to get around. Regardles of how busy they are, they are always friendly and the drinks are always perfect. I like this Starbucks. It's in a great location with plenty of parking out back. The padded bench seating is real comfortable for slumpy sitters like me. There's a great patio in front and bike parking too! The staff is nice and the drinks are tasty. I was a little surprised during my last visit. There power outlets are all gone. Apparently homeless people had been using the outlets to charge their phones. The management decided to remove the power outlets. Two stars simply because the cookies and muffins looked good. I didn't buy one although I wish I would have. Instead, I bought a chicken BLT salad sandwich which turned out to be the most disgusting sammy I've ever attempted to eat. (See picture).before making my purchase, I asked the counter person if they made them fresh EVERY DAY and his response, "they drop them off every day". This space is way too small for how busy it is and it is not relaxing at all inside because it was really loud with the music playing and all the people talking and all the clanking that way going on in the barista station. I didn't mind the feist cd that they were playing but I couldn't concentrate on the toxicology book (boring chemistry stuff that requires all my undivided attention) and ended up trying to return phone calls instead (also hopeless). The barista girls were so nice and attentive though and when I asked about their new-fangled Pikes Place Roast they told me that they didn't have any brewed. I wanted a sample so I told them I would wait. They gave me a free venti cup for my time and I ended up buying a peanut butter cookie while I waited around. The cookie was lacking the home baked goodness that I love in peanut butter cookies. This one seemed diluted somehow like they were using super salty planters peanuts and crisco. The coffee was noticeably better. It is still bold, but definitely less of an aftertaste and kept my pits sweaty and my hands and legs jittery - shaking uncontrollably for at least 2 hors post-consumption. Parking in the lot is next to impossible during peak times but there are plenty of street parking spaces. read more

Was in a basic b**ch mood this afternoon so I decided to nab me one of those infamous Pumpkin Spice Frapuccinos, and OH EM GEE it was like totes magotes worth it!! It literally embodies the fall season in a novelty beverage, and I now see what all the hype is about. It literally tastes like a pumpkin pie smoothie. The touch of cinnamon was the icing on the cake. It just put me in a good mood! I literally moaned after every sip, and I'm not exaggerating. Nothing else mattered in the world while I was working on my PSF. I swear Starbucks didn't pay me to write this. I'm genuinely obsessed with this seasonal beverage. This location is less busy than the K Street location, so that's why I prefer to come to those location more.
