To put you in my shoes, you wake up, excited to use your Starbucks gift card you got for your birthday and starting to plan the perfect morning. You and your gorgeous wife step into a loud and chaotic whirlwind of a so called "coffee shop". The cashier barks at you for your order and makes you follow their Mussolini-based sizes. I try to scan my gift card and because of their unorganization and outdated technology it fails, the cashier gives me a hand printed 1-800 number to call and makes me pay with my card because "it's already in the system". I call the number and tell the issues to the customer service rep(seems to be outsourced) and the baristas start glaring and making rude remarks towards me. They also never gave me my chocolate croissant, I told the customer service and they said without the receipt there's nothing they can do, the cashier said they cannot provide me a receipt because I already got my order. Only got to spend an evening here (and before school was back in session), but those few hours were great. Made greater by friendly service. There's all sorts of tables in here, from communal tables to two-seaters in the window to love seats. Did I mention a little library nook that I wish would be integrated in all Starbucks stores? And yes, outdoor patio seats that I don't see getting much use at this time of year. Best of all? It's open late! (Note: they closed some parts of the cafe earlier, so don't get TOO settled.) For those staying at the Commons, you can roll out of bed and get a pick-me-up without even stepping outside. Well-maintained Starbucks in the heart of the University of Minnesota campus. They've updated their store a lot in the past years I've been here and have several different types of tables (high tables, normal tables, booths, couches, outdoor tables, etc.) so whatever your study preference is, it's here. They've added so many outlets as well which is a huge plus. There are multiple outlets attached to most of the study tables. I've never had issues with internet. It's fast and reliable. It gets pretty packed during busy times of the school year, but is always a nice and quiet place to study in the evenings. There's always a morning and afternoon rush for coffee so I prefer to order in the Starbucks app. They get those drinks done extremely fast so you don't have to wait. Food and drinks are good, baristas are nice and friendly. read more

This is my go-to place when I need a caffeine kick, but lately they have been a little disappointing. When going here, always expect a wait (it is a hot location as it is very convenient) and expect some friendly staff but some not so friendly staff. By my job in the business district in Edina (both on France and 76th and the one on 77th by 100) are abdolutely awesome. However, the one closest to home off Cedar Ave vlose to Minnehaha varies. While this starbucks is somewhat difficult to get to with it's location (and not a ton of parking - it's all metered), it proves to be a great place for college students at the U to get a quick drink and stop in and do homework. I mostly go and use the,ir mobile order-which I find really easy to use. The last time I went, however, I was given the wrong drink when I ordered online. Since it was really busy, I did not want to wait and order a new one, and left not happy with my drink. I recently found out that Starbucks has a customer service form on their website, and filled out a form and indicated that I did not get the order that I had asked for. They were very willing to add money on the gift card that I purchased it with, and within a business day put $5 on my gift card! Probably one of my favorite Starbucks coffee shops! The lines are long but they move much faster than the lines at the Starbucks inside Coffman. They accept mobile payment and are open from 5am - 12 midnight. This is also one of the largest Starbucks I've ever been to. I enjoy their Holiday drinks and their usual classics like the Caramel Macchiato and the delightful Cinnamon Dolce latte. And being next to The Commons Hotel - Added bonus! It's gorgeous inside the Commons, and nice to walk through the hotel into the "tunnel" and back to the office so you can get your coffee fix without even stepping foot outside in the freezing cold tundra. When I came into Minneapolis after a friendly group meetup invited me here, I noticed a Starbucks attached to the Graduate Minneapolis hotel (which was this Starbucks location) that looked innovative and close. However, it was rather disappointing and disorganized. Although things ran smoothly, I chose to use the Starbucks app due to my Starbucks Rewards card, but not only was it my fault at first that I couldn't get my order to trigger in the system, but by the time I realized and put it in, everybody was getting a little testy in the back. I'm normally not that bad at knowing when a mobile order has been ordered, but made it more interesting was just how they responded to a really quick order I had there. One pastry that they had on the shelf which the one dude-employee pawned off on his beverage-filling coworker (even though this other dude was closer to the pastries). For an order that should've taken all of 30 seconds, took more than 5 minutes to evaluate, put product in the product bag and walk it over to the pickup line. Not my cup o' tea here. I know I won't be back, because I'm not from the area, and I probably won't be staying inside this hotel again for the same reason, but try to queue easy to fulfill orders first instead of by time of ordering because my quick and easy order turned out to be more than the average guest could hope for and wouldn't make a great reputation for your company. read more

And the other barista said they made one so I was like oh someone probably took it by mistake and then the barista was like I'll tell them to make another one. And I was like thanks. And then 15 minutes goes by and I'm really late for class now because like I made a judgement on time and I didn't wanna call the store later and ask for a refund and like I didn't have proof that I didn't get it so what if I didn't get a refund and yeah. But I go up to the woman I talked to before and was like hey I still haven't gotten that drink and she was like oh I thought you got that already I'll tell them to make it again. And 5 minutes later I got that drink. But I can tell by the flavor that the extra shot of espresso I ordered isn't in the drink, and neither the woman I talked to or barista who gave me my drink apologized for the wait or said thanks for waiting. Ive worked as a barista at a couple different cafes and I've had people take drinks ordered by other people. When that happens we just check their receipt, make sure that an employee made it, apologize and then start making it right away. Because that order was placed before the incoming orders it's first priority. And then we give the customer that drink and either apologize again or say thank you for waiting. If I didn't have a class to get to this experience might not have been as upsetting but I'm pretty sure every customer in there had a class to go, and I saw a lot of other customers asking questions about where their drink was, despite having placed an order 15+ minutes ago. I totally understand that a rush can be chaotic, and that's okay, but the customer service wasn't trying to make up for that in any way. read more

I've already been here twice in one week! I really like how spacious this store is. This is a great spot to study, with seats both outside and inside. If you're getting on or off the Green Line at East Bank, it's a great place to grab your coffee. There are two restrooms, but make sure you ask for the code because they're locked, otherwise. This is the most disgusting Starbucks I've ever been to. The garbage cans out front are always overflowing into the sidewalks, and I've never seen a clean table. Even when empty, the staff just sit in the back office instead of maintaining the shop. Additionally, many (not all) of the employees making the coffee (you aren't a barista if you press a button) are very soft-spoken so you have to huddle up closely to hear when your coffee is ready. Honestly, I never knew how good I had it until I recently moved to LA and found out other Starbucks just don't compare. This place has been with me for the past four years of college and I'll forever be grateful. The lines might be long (this is to be expected since it's on campus), but the staff is always friendly and has a smile on their face. This isn't always so with the Starbucks stores in LA. Aside from the mediocre customer service in LA, I've also noticed that the cup sizes at the Starbucks I currently go to are much smaller than the ones in Minnesota. One of my favorite coffee experiences happened here. It was a chilly Fall afternoon in Minneapolis, and I had on my favorite cable-knit sweater. I was needing to step away from my desk for a bit, and decided to walk to this Starbucks. I walked in, waited patiently in line, and while I was in line, I noticed a sign that said, "The Pumpkin Spice Latte is back!" My little heart jumped for joy - it was *that* time of year. My turn to the counter arrived, and I said, "One large pumpkin spice latte, please." (Because I refuse to say "venti" or whatever size Starbucks tries to force me to say.) The girl at the counter gave me a sympathetic look, and simply said, "I'm SO sorry, but unfortunately, we can't start serving those until tomorrow." Hopes dashed, I mumbled a choice swear word (not at the counter helper, of course) and said, "That's alright. It would have made my day, but you know, I'll just come back tomorrow!" The manager, who was standing nearby, said, "Hey, you know, if it'll make your day better, we can make one for you right now." My eyes lit up, and I said, "Seriously?" "Of course," he said. "We aim to please." Well, please he did. It really did make my day, and when I need a Starbucks fix near the University, I skip the one at Coffman Union and head straight for this one on Washington. If you imagined a moderately busy Starbucks full of a mix of college students and people who work at or are visiting a University, you'd probably be accurately picturing this Starbucks pretty accurately. In other words, its not particularly distinct. But if you're like me, and happy when you get 5 extra minutes before work or class to run across the street and pick up a promptly and correctly made mobile order, then that's mostly a good thing. This location is very convenient and services is usually pretty fast. There can sometimes be long lines and limited seating, and they run out of things though-- probably nothing surprising for a busy store. Giving 3 stars because it is kind of hard to predict when you'll be able to find a seat and also because given high traffic, its usually loud/messy/and cold near the door and too hot everywhere else. Not really a good Starbucks to hang out in, if you're trying to find a quieter place to study. The wifi is reliable though! read more

This Starbucks connects to the Commons Hotel! If you are a guest in the hotel or conducting business this a big perk especially when its too cold to leave the building. Since this is a very busy location the baristas are trained to be super fast and do a great job to keep the line moving. After an event a group of about 15 of us went to get coffee and they got our drinks out within 10 minutes, unreal. Goldy was with our group and tried to get behind the counter but the baristas did not like that. It was worth a try! This is one of the larger Starbucks locations I have been to and has plenty of seating space. This is a review for the Starbucks in the same building as the Radisson Metrodome -- you can enter Starbucks directly from the street, but also by going along a connecting hallway that begins in the hotel lobby. If you're a hotel guest and the outside temperature is challenging, you might find Starbucks more attractive than, say, the neighborhood independent espresso shop across the street (Espresso Expose). The atmosphere here is totally predictable to anyone who has ever been in a Starbucks before. In other words, the atmosphere is soothing in a way that makes you think you've been institutionalized. The Pike Place Roast was good, maybe even very good. The butter croissant (heated up in a real oven, as opposed to a microwave) was buttery and kinda tasteless. I wanted a banana but couldn't get one because the store hadn't received any fresh bananas; this was true on both days that I came for breakfast. The bottom line is the same as always: Starbucks is a good fallback choice when you're traveling and don't know the quality of the local independent coffee places. Some of them are stellar, but many are crappy. As it turned out, Espresso Expose made pretty good espresso. E.E. is good enough to cross the street for, but not first thing in the morning when the outside temperature is -20 Celsius! read more

The line was already backed up by the front door and they only had one register open. Seriously? On a Monday morning? They had like five baristas behind the bar but it didn't really seem like the crew was working together to get people through the line. I ordered my nitro cold brew but it came out as a normal cold brew... not the end of the world, but still, it's nice to get your drink right. This is one of Starbucks' more ambient cafes. I stopped in around 3 pm on a Friday to find the place busy with college students sitting, working, and chatting, but without a long line for coffee. There were three or four friendly baristas, so plenty of coverage at the bar. The interior of this Starbucks is nice - lots of dark colors and large windows. Although it is neither too large nor too small, it manages to pack in a good number of tables and chairs for a feeling that is well-balanced - neither crammed nor sparse. It's also nice that it has a Clover machine and serves Starbucks' premium kinds of drip coffee. It's definitely supposed to look and feel like one of the more upscale/inviting Starbucks cafes. read more
