Such a convenient Starbucks, right around the corner from Helix high school. They are more busy during the morning hour, mostly because there's a line of students before and after school. Although they are slammed, they get through the lines fairly quickly. I never wait more than 15 minutes when the line is out the door. Hooray for the puppaccino! Thanks SO much to the Starbucks team for making me, my mom, and my fur baby happy! This location's drive-thru service is always very fast, and they accurately complete our order. While the parking lot is huge and has disabled parking, the actual door is quite a bit away - just be prepared for a little stroll. This location's area/lot gets quite busy around 2:30pm because the high school kids are leaving school, and parents are picking them up here (or on the side street or accross the street). Bad service, bad experience A person I was meeting with for a business transaction picked the7350 University Avenue LA Mesa CA store. It was not busy. The MALE cashier, name tag Luis, told me to wait. None of the women in the store acknowledged me. Then a rude young man came up behind me cut in front of me and ordered. Luis the cashier needed to take my order first as I was looking in the refrigerator case waiting. Both men were callous when I'm next in line, " you need to take my order 1st, I've been waiting", he ignored me and continued to help the rude man who insulted me and kept siding with the wrong employee behavior. I did NOT get "Latte" trained response. The two men are obviously men who disrespected women and roll their eyes, and act in a condescending manner. I have been with Starbucks since inception, I picked and created the FEMALE logo so woman could have a place to go for coffee (other than male McDonalds,Male named Carl's Jr, male Burger King. A place women who created & financed & it only franchised using MY federal cross country franchise license. It's designed for women to own, Operate, manage, be employed and be treated well with kindness As customers. Very disappointing service & negative experience today. Luis didn't apologize, in fact he made me wait more than a reasonable amount time for a slice of pumpkin bread to go straight from the case (prebaggec) yo be handed to me. I picked a grab and go item, vs something that I had to wait to be made. If I didn't keep asking for it in between each new customer order. I'd probably still be waiting for it. No "LATTE" for me. And as for the pumpkin loaf, it's a bit oily. Too many calories It should be reformulated, I'd recreate vegan. As well as the lemon loaf & other items as people with all plant-based diets are on the increase and Starbucks needs to change with the forward movement of the health conscious consumer. This is our neighborhood Starbucks and the staff is amazing. They recognize me by my mobile order and now anticipate my special request, puppacinno please! The one time my drink was made incorrectly they made me a fresh one and let me keep the mistake, my husband was happy for the free caffeine boost. The store and drive thru can get SUPER BUSY depending on Helix High schools start and end times. If you can avoid those times, they are very quick and have ample space inside to study or work. read more

Took my son Tobin to Starbies today, weren't too happy with the result. We ordered AND paid extra for a summer skies drink with the max scoops of boba which was exactly 12. The drink was 20 dollars so I was expecting the full 12 scoops of boba considering the cost difference. Unfortunately we sat in the Starbucks waiting for the barista and carefully watched her only put about 5 scoops in our drink. You can see this below. This was typically my go-to Starbucks but after today's visit I may need to reconsider since this barista is usually working. I went through the drive-through and as I was waiting for my drink and to pay (it appeared the barista was taking another drive-through order - totally okay!) I see that she is handed my cold brew from another barista. While she is taking the other person's order, she is playing with the lid of my drink, rubbing the part where you would sip from, over and over again with her bare hands and longgg nails. This went on for at least a minute - just her playing with the lid of my drink, specifically the part that I would sip from. I was disgusted. This is also someone who is handling money all day so she should avoid touching the lid at all. I didn't want to make a scene so I kindly requested a straw. I hope that management sees this and can properly train their employees on drink handling. Yuck! read more

This is a fairly new Starbucks right on University as you are leaving La Mesa heading into the Rolando area. Although I did not use the drive thru, it has one. I hung out for a bit enjoying my grande cappuccino. Unfortunately, they did not fill the cup properly or all the way. Also, for some reason the cappuccino was on the very light side and missing that robust espresso flavor. I think it just needed more coffee and less steamed milk. The young staff members were friendly enough and were not much for conversation, even after I said thank you. This location offers inside and outside seating. read more

Came here today to pick up a water bottle, they didnt have the one i thought about buying they had the one i couldnt find anywhere else hidden in the back of all the cups and bottles which was even better! Picked up my bottle and ordered a matcha lemonade. Rocky at the counter was helpful and friendly. The inside is clean and very mellow. Only thing i didnt like much is the layout of the location, you have to walk through the line of cars at the drive thru but its not too bad, still good coffee and nice staff. read more

I go to this Starbucks everyday on my way home from dropping off my boyfriend at work. i get the same thing everyday, venti iced caramel macchiato light ice with whatever variation i'm feeling for the day.(and a pup cup) I'm surprised they don't know me by now, none of the regular baristas i see week after week seem to recognize me or at least say hello like they do. Today I went through the drive through like i usually do and i tried to get rid of all my change in my cup and said can i pay card and cash. She said no problem :) i had 1.10 in change and 5:35 apple cash but when i scanned my apple cash it wouldn't accept. I tried again and let her know i had the exact amount being charged on my apple cash so maybe that's why it wasn't working properly ? she said yeah i don't know and asked if i had any more change...... 5.35 in change ??? i do have more yes but not enough i confessed to her and said do you want my drink back ? (after she had already handed it to me. ) she said okay! and took it from me, I was a little shocked i understand the payment wasn't working but i was given no other resolutions and her excitement to just take it back to avoid coming up with one was upsetting to me.... after starting to pull off with tears in my eyes from embarrassment she said hey ! do you want your change back? i braked too far from the window , give up and say no. i hate having anxiety and not wanting to speak up but i instantly regretted the interaction and broke down after leaving. And no pup cup :( it was super embarrassing to be a regular and have to hold up the line just to hand back what i made everyone wait for. i'm thinking now maybe i could have been recommended to downsize it to make my apple cash total higher than what was being charged instead of exact amount, or i don't know anything other than feeling like i was turned away even though i had the money. I felt uncomfortable with the experience and i think i will be going to a different starbucks from now on. read more

I love Starbucks. The history, Howard Schultz, the products and consistency. This location is not my normal. They don't have the clover machine here which is kind of a bummer. So I ordered my second which was an Americano, 2 shots of espresso and a cake pop for my daughter. What I got was an Americano with heavy cream which really was disappointing, a very bitter espresso which is very unusual for Starbucks (usually it's bold and as thick as butter) and the wrong flavored cake pop. While my kid loved her treat regardless the adults were let down. Not only do they not have the ability to make what I like but what they do offer is inconsistent with the brands goal. It's enough for me to not return to this location and tell others this isn't Starbucks. read more

I would definitely not recommend this specific Starbucks. There are only children working at that Starbucks because it is next to the high school so they don't make the orders correctly. They leave the whole cup all sticky and don't clean up for the customers. They are unorganized. I would definitely not recommend it. I got a caramel macchiato and I didn't even get any coffee in it. Dear Starbucks, Today I remembered why I stopped ordering coffee drinks from Starbucks. It's because of baristas handling drinks like this (see photo). Fingers tend to touch all sorts or germy things: computer keys, counters, sponges, money, and sooo much more. When you put your fingers on the exact spot where I'm about to put my mouth, it is an obvious hygiene problem. This not a once-in-while problem. It happens *more than* 50% of the time, a very common thing. I feel a little bad singling out your store for comment, because it happens in Starbucks stores everywhere, all the time. But today was just the last straw. It's grossly unhygienic any time, but while we are still coming out of Covid it seems even more unbelievable/tone-deaf. And no, I didn't ask for a different lid because I feel bad about the amount of plastic I'm already using by buying this drink. So please, I have faith that you can do better. Please find another way to hand people their drinks, other than placing fingers on the lip of the cup. And please spread the word to other stores. read more

Been here twice on my way into work, seemed it many times but just blew right by it. Did the whole drive thru like I always do with almost every location that has one. Wasn't as busy, about 3-4 cars, still took roughly 10-15 minutes from the time I ordered to I'll I got my drink :/ Second time around I decided to mobile order so I can be I in and out. Ordered 5 minutes before I got there and 1 other car in front of me in the drive thru line, mentioned I mobile ordered, somehow couldn't find it. Finally found it, it must've been at least 10 minutes from when I ordered it. They ended up making it while I waited in the drive thru line. I wonder what's the point of having mobile order if its not ready ahead of time. Good thing is that at least the barista apologized for the wait. I haven't been back since. But overall, this location doesn't seem to get as busy, I drive past it everyday, same time Monday-Friday. It's a new location so maybe it'll take a bit of time to catch up. read more

I know they're not the only store/business to do this, but the way they design their drive thru is meant to trap you in once you're in line so you can't drive away if you change your mind. I'm really not a fan of coercive business practices. I wish I could give negative stars, the customer service at this store is a lackluster to say the least! The employees work extra hard to NOT make eye contact with you. They will have you wait 10-15 minutes before they even take your order when ordering inside. Never once is there a welcome to Starbucks or just a simple "welcome" greeting. I come here out of convenience from location not because I like to. They are all very unprofessional and slow and really rude to be honest. Especially the short haired brunette lady in her 40s! She is a sarcastic rude woman for no reason! Perhaps the $20 minimum wage increase wasn't enough to satisfy this location. They are ignorant rude and just terrible with customer service. I have seem so many drivers like UPS/Construction/ USPS and Amazon drivers get completely ignored when asking for the bathroom code. They are service men and should not be ignored when the need for a restroom arises. They do not have the convenience as Starbucks workers who have accessibility to a restroom every minute of the work day. Also the drinks are almost always messed up or BAD!
