Service is fine. I'm mostly ticked off that whoever is managing this site doesn't care much about customers. Creepy sovereign citizen guy was filming everyone at doors to get a reaction from people and employees shrugged my concern off, but...that's their property and they could get cops to come trespass him. I literally found this dude's rage bait YouTube channel and the creepy old men commenting on the women featured. He does this OFTEN. I know employees can't do much but where is management? it was in the middle of a morning rush so I'm not trying to knock them on it, but I've been harassed by people for money, followed inside by strange men, and now filmed all first thing in the morning. This is more a 39th street problem but Starbucks management needs to crack down and file trespass orders or at the very least warn these people that they will be trespassed if they don't stop harassing customers. People feel unsafe at this Starbucks. Otherwise I really don't have too much to say about this location...it's fine, the orders get out quickly, when it's chill the staff will greet you and thank you which is all I need. Don't let this review deter you, but do be cautious of your surroundings. read more

Came here twice while visiting KC. The staff seems more concerned with looking cool in this hipster area instead of worrying about helping customers or getting orders correct. First time, they put the last drink in my order in the online pickup area instead of with the other four in my order. Finally I had to ask where it was after everyone cleared out. I didn't realize the mistake because they made the drink wrong (no whipped cream). Next time, I stood at the counter for about 3 min. Finally someone had to tell the guy who was just walking around that he had customers that needed to be helped. And, again, they forgot to add whipped cream! Different person, same lack of attention to detail. I pointed it out. Just got an "ok." If you can, go to a different location, unless you're just looking to be hip. I am brand new to this area, so I got on Google to find the nearest Starbucks to my work and placed an order for pickup. I went in to get my normal "order for Angie". They had never heard of me. I asked for directions to this other address, but NONSENSE! They just wanted to help. They made my whole order (3 drinks) and sent me on my way. It wasn't just that they helped. It was the attitude with which they did it! Not just good customer service, but great people giving great customer service. I won't go to another Starbucks while I'm at work! Best SB location in Kansas City. The baristas are friendly and the drinks are great. Do they occasionally get it wrong? Sure. But it's rare and nothing major. The drive through is fast and if you order ahead through the app, they bump you up so your order is usually ready when you walk in. Inside the store feels comfortable for some reason - good energy. It's not your average Starbucks for good and bad reasons. While not all locations are created equal this place and its employees stand out above the rest. They are what make this Starbucks a five star location. Now, brace yourself for impact. The building is very cramped inside and doesn't allow for a lot of studying, reading, or even standing room if it is busy. The parking outside is limited, the tree planted right in front of two parking spots doesn't help the situation. The tables outside are placed on the side of the building directly in the sun right next to parking, I am really glad they have outdoor seating it just isn't the best location for it, unfortunately they don't have a lot of options in that regard. Even with all my complaints on the buildings layout, it is a great spot to go and grab a cup of joe. The employees are cheerful, helpful, and amazing to be around! The people that work here are the reason I go to Starbucks over a local shop. I love to support local when I can, but when the employees are this great it is hard to pass up. read more

Having lived in Seattle and knowing several employees of Starbucks corporate, I was exposed to "the dream and goal" of Starbucks. They are to be a truly neighborhood partner and reflect and participate in their respective neighborhoods. Most locations fail this and as I have a bad taste for Starbucks for taking over two of my favorites (Seattle's Best and Pasqua) and destroying the latter, you can imagine my delighted shock to discover this location. Now this location serves the same great caffeinated beverages all the others serve. They sell the same awesome coffee accessories, but what set this location apart from the others is the people that staff this location. they are pros at what they do, but they are not cold and unapproachable as you find in many other Starbucks. They are very warm and very real. The section of the 39th Street Corridor where this location sits puts it near KU Medical Center so a great deal of their clientele are in a hurry. They still manage to know their regulars, converse very personably and still get the job done fast and to perfection. Now the flip side is that this area is also a very unique and funky vibe given the boutiques and eateries around it. No one else in this location radiates a true 39th Street vibe more than Star. Star is a true asset to this location. She truly knows her regulars and is even learning Spanish conversationally via the regulars she knows who speak the language. Sporting very beautiful tattoos, she is the embodiment of the Starbucks dream in this location. She embodies all that makes the area unique and delightful to visit. So the next time you find yourself down by KU and need a caffeine fix, stop by Starbucks and don't forget to have a chat with Star... In Spanish if possible. read more

My is at Gia's grooming and didn't want a beer and this place is down the street walking distance, last time I was here I stopped by this place and the staff is friendly and , this place has it's own style of decorating and wisdom on the wall, patio in the side on warm days to sit out on and bring your dog too, the place is smaller than other places but what counts is service, it's on the corner on a one way street heading north, I pull in parking lot which was on the wrong way and lucky no other cars were coming, I posted pix on their page of inside, each of the Starbucks store is different from the other stores read more

You know you're in a non-quasi hipster, caffeine pretentious pour-over loving, part of the city when the Starbucks is nearly empty, void of anyone "studying" (or looking like they are "working"on a laptop while perusing FB) and the line nonexistent. Yes, I am well aware that there are a bevy of local caffeine hubs(even a Vegan shrine to mid-day pick me ups just a parking lot away) in West 39th however, none of them to my knowledge have started carrying Passion Tango Tea unsweetened. Once one of them does I will most definitely turn to it for a refreshing thirst quencher but until then I feel no guilt in lining the pockets of a Corp' because I rest peacefully in assurance that the high density of quasi-vegans in the area will be more than enough to keep the local competition alive and kicking for many more years to come just as LFK has no problem keeping the Java Joint open. Aesthetics wise this Starbucks is extremely tiny, like surprisingly small, with potential to get cramped like a mother but most times since there isn't a high volume of customers it's easy breezy out the door with your drink within 5 minutes. read more

Came here this afternoon, trying to find a place to work for about an hour. Starbucks is a great spot because they have free wifi and a variety of healthy foods to munch on. I ordered two "That's It" bars and found a spot to work on my ipad. The employees were friendly enough. I did notice both employees eating a bagel behind the bar. I'm all for them having a snack and taking a break... I just don't like them doing that in the front. Especially when they are making food & beverages for customers. read more

Say what you will about Starbucks, but I have never had a bad experience with this location. Every barista that has served me has been sharp as a tack and on top of even the most complex order without asking twice, and on my most recent visit even offered me a free extra shot just because. The inside of the shop is a little small, so if there is a long line you may end up huddled in a group, collectively fiending for caffeine like a pack of addicts, or even lined up out the door, but I generally go in the afternoon anyways. My only complaint is about the specific location, with the best available parking being on the corner of Genessee Street; a one-way, pouring out into the two-way traffic of 39th, making it so that you have to drive on the wrong side of a one way for about 15 feet before entering the lot. That is, unless you want to fight the steady flow of bad drivers entering and exiting the lot shared with Chipotle. All of that is just a minor detail though, I would park three blocks down the street just to get some coffee. And I have. read more

The staff is very friendly, and they make delicious drinks. This particular instance, they made my drink cold instead of hot, and not only did they correct their mistake and make my hot drink, they allowed me to keep my cold drink as well. It is conveniently located by KU Med Center. read more

Yep, it's a Starbucks, but this one feels like home. The baristas are very nice, and you can't be a regular here without getting to know them (and they you). Lots of neighborhood folks frequent here so it truly does become a community coffee shop. They are always willing to make my finicky orders and sometimes I even get extra shots. :) The parking lot is a mess, but that's the nature of the game on 39th street. This is one of the smaller Starbucks venues in the Metro but still a solid option for a strong cup o' joe. Like other locales, you'll find a variety of patrons here. KU Med students studying for a final, 39th Street locals telling fish stories, and people on their way to work in Midtown. Lines can a little a little long and things get a little cramped inside. The baristas, always friendly and positive, move the lines pretty quickly. The crew that is working when I frequent this location is top-notch, perhaps the best around. They have a great working relationship with each other and make your experience the best it could be. Love the fact that they know folks by name and start making drinks when you walk through the doors. No need to comment on the drinks - they are the same at every location. Their community involvement within the 39th neighborhood is also outstanding. Such a tight knit community of folks in this area. read more

Let me preface this 4 star review by saying that I hate Starbucks coffee! Whether you are drinking their blonde roast, French roast, or anything in between, it always tastes burnt. And nasty. But here's the thing -- sometimes I need a quick quad shot and no one else is open around here. Also, when I came in for said quad shot just a couple of days ago I was impressed with the customer service enough to leave this review! I was warming up for a 5k race in a couple of hours and needed a caffeine boost without having to drink a huge cup of coffee. I only had $3.00 in my shorts but I figured that would be enough for a quad shot. Turns out after tax my total came to $3.05! I told myself that was too bad and would just have to settle for a double shot, but the nice barista working there just said "Let's do it!" and didn't worry about the 5 cents. I know 5 cents is practically nothing but there are a lot of people who wouldn't have spotted me that change, especially in a corporate store like that. I felt bad that I didn't have anything to tip her with, so on my way out to the 5k I stopped back in and brought the 5 cents along with a nice tip. I may not ever be impressed with their coffee but I sure was impressed by their customer service! read more

Yes, Justin: the staff has friendly whenever I've gone there; and if you're trying to get something fast, Starbucks is probably a better bet, as they've got the efficiency thing down. But with Javanaut so near, I choose it whenever I can: it's a neighborhood institution. And if I'm in a hurry, actually -- and in my car, headed that way -- I prefer Station Coffee in the Old Westport shopping center parking lot: drive-through (or sit in) for very good coffee from people I feel are my friends, though I only see them fleetingly. With that said, there are other pluses here: parking lot right there; and one sees neighborhood people hanging out, and there's no fence (as at Javanaut), so you can be right there by the sidewalk. read more

Used to love coming in here until recently .. you order something and the barista making the drinks wouldn't listen and just complete it the same. Recently went in about 2 weeks ago on a Sunday morning. Completely different crew, unfriendly and the tattooed she/he making the drinks was not attentive or friendly and kept trying to dismiss me after presenting my drink... a flat white with coconut milk. She then tried to make conversation with an older regular, so I had to get her attention to tell her I still had a few items remaining on my order. She turned and grunted "WHAT?" and I explained I still had another item. she then walked over to the oven and picked up the sandwich and then shoved it at me and dismissed me again. I had to tell her I ordered a pumpkin loaf bread too. "WHAT?" she grunted again and she seemed pissed cause she didn't want to wait on me but again tried to talk to the older regular. I explained I had one more order the pumpkin loaf, she then walked over and shoved this at me too. The store wasn't busy about 7 of us in there which is odd cause it is usually busy. I haven't returned since and it is sad cause I work at the hospital. I will gladly drive to 41st and Main or even Johnson dr. Since Trump has ties with Starbucks, I'm looking elsewhere for coffee. read more
