After Cinco de Mayo…read more It was a rainy day here in Harrisburg, PA. I took a job in Lancaster, but first, I needed my coffee--I think I'm addicted to it now! The day before, I had a great cup from Passenger, but today I stopped by Little Amps in downtown Harrisburg before hitting the road. The atmosphere was excellent; it reminded me of home in LA with the records playing, dim lighting, and vintage decor everywhere. I felt a bit torn, like one coffee house wanted me to stay and the other wanted me to leave, so I decided to "break myself in half" and visit both. After all, two of me is better than one! I highly rate Little Amps for the scenery. The vintage look and the outdoor seating make you feel like you're in Manhattan or Paris, giving you the vibe of three places all in one. If you haven't been to any of these spots yet, save your money and just visit Little Amps to get that "all-in-one" experience. The staff is very inviting and they do offer bagels, though I have to be honest: they aren't quite as good as New York bagels. I know New York bagels inside and out, and they know me! I hope my review helps you decide where to get your next caffeine fix.

It's clear that little amp cares about its community, which beyond great coffee is the best to have. A space where people are safe, welcomed, and supported. The chai late was amazing, as well was my partners espresso tonic. But what we loved most was how open, welcoming, and loving the space and staff were.

Let me start by saying that I'm a tea drinker, not a coffee drinker. I love Elementary! I usually…read moreget their Kingsolver Matcha latte but have tried a handful of other tea drinks and they're always great. I absolutely love that they use a matcha mix that has no added sugar in it. I didn't realize how hard that is to find. My boyfriend loves their coffee and has purchased a few of their bags of coffee to make at home. I personally enjoy visiting the store on North over the stand at the market. But that's just my personal preference. When we first discovered this place we were going about 4-5 times a week (or more)! We've cut back some but still enjoy this place as a great treat! I gladly take all out of town guests to Elementary for our coffee and tea needs!

Long ago I quit asking about mochas because 95 percent of the time I was told the chocolate isn't vegan. The latte became king. During my holiday visit to Central Pennsylvania my super thoughtful aunt gave me a gift card to Elementary Coffee. I decided to pay an afternoon visit to their location at the Broad Street Market. When I arrived I began perusing their menu. Lo and behold, right there on that big menu board in the sky, it said mocha...made with local vegan chocolate. Yessiree, Elementary Coffee was about to put the mocha back in vegan Joel H. Along with the mocha, I ordered a bag of their specialty roasted holiday beans to take back to Tampa with me. The mocha was spectacular. I sipped it at the small bar Elementary has beside their stand. It was smooth and featured just the right amount of chocolate, coffee and vegan milk. Their roasted beans are great too. Every morning I mix them with some chocolate soy milk and relive the vegan mocha experience from the Broad Street Market. Oh, prices you say? Pretty competitive to other coffee shops I've visited. My twenty dollar gift card covered the bag of beans and mocha with vegan milk (though the barista did waive off a few cents to make it work). I can't wait to return next time I'm in Pennsylvania. One more cool thing about this location is that in the other Broad Street Market building you can see Elementary's roasting area. I totally gawked for a few minutes at the bags and bags of beans and the large machine responsible for roasting them.

Coda Rouge, I commend you for a superb Valentine's Day dinner…read more I've experienced lunch at Coda Rouge a few times, but this special occasion, the five-course prix fixe aphrodisiac menu, was next-level dining. Why? The opportunity to experience the live painting artwork by Bryan "Prolifik" Hickman, artist and creator of the Tuskegee Airman mural on the side wall of Coda Rouge. The added ambiance of Singer's Lounge, Phebe West, singing lovely, familiar tunes. And last but not least, the intimacy of meeting Coda Rouge chef, Sachiko Tashiana, who trained under renowned chef Wolfgang Puck. And all hands on deck from the chef's family, who helped make the evening special. Finally, the presentation of each of the five courses and the food was superb. If you have never experienced Coda Rouge, you must add it to your short list of Harrisburg fine dining experiences.

Will be back for their dinner pop ups, and will be bringing friends and family with. I wish they had a place in philly

This week's Friday Night Solo Date Night destination took me to Greystone Public House -- a spot…read moreI've heard people talk about for a while but had never tried myself. When I realized I'd be just minutes away late Friday afternoon on one of the nicest days of the year so far, it felt like the perfect time to finally give it a shot. Friday afternoon, 74°, end of a long work week...this absolutely screamed "patio dinner," and Greystone delivered on that front! I arrived around 4:45pm and asked for patio seating, and was seated at a great table in full sun. The vibe was exactly what I was hoping for -- calm, quiet, and a really beautiful setting. When I got there, the patio was about one-third full, but by the time I left around 5:30pm, it had nearly emptied out. That said, I could definitely see this being a go-to spot when the weather is nice, so reservations are probably a smart move if you're aiming for patio seating. For my meal, I went with the shrimp salad wrap with a Caesar salad and a Diet soda. On paper, it sounded like a solid, light dinner option. In reality...it didn't quite hit for me. The shrimp salad was very mayo-heavy with minimal seasoning, and it was loaded with large chunks of celery (like...a lot of celery). The menu also indicated the wrap would include tomato but it didn't. The shrimp were left whole, which made it tough to eat as a wrap -- I ended up just picking out and eating the shrimp and leaving most of the wrap behind...along with what felt like an entire stalk of celery. Not exactly what I had in mind. Service also missed the mark a bit. My server checked in shortly after the food was delivered, but then disappeared for quite a while. I finished eating and waited about 20 minutes for my check, with both my Diet soda and water empty and no refill in sight before she eventually came back. My total came to $24.30 before tip, which put the experience right around $30 for one person, one cold wrap, one side salad and a Diet soda -- and for that price point, I was expecting something a little more elevated, both in food and service. Greystone definitely has the look of an upscale, country club-style dining experience. The space is beautiful, especially the patio, and the overall atmosphere is appealing. But right now, it feels like the execution isn't quite matching the vision. The food lacked that "oh my god this is GOOD" factor, and the service didn't support the price point. Also worth noting -- a few small maintenance details stood out, like a broken toilet paper dispenser laying in pieces in the women's restroom and loose floor tiles near the bar that shift when you step on them. Not dealbreakers, but noticeable in a space aiming for a more polished experience. Overall, Greystone is a great spot for the vibes -- especially on a sunny day -- but the food and service didn't quite live up to expectations for me. I'd come back for the patio, but I'd probably manage expectations (and maybe try something different on the menu next time).
