The Sherman Ave Starbucks in downtown Evanston is our go-to spot for early morning coffee. It is fast, consistent, friendly, and early! Fast: we always use our mobile app and the time is accurate to when you show up and have the drink/snack ready. Consistent: our go to's are always spot on-- (1) cold brew with light ice OR blonde roast hot, depending on the season; (2) the sun dried tomato, egg, and feta wrap. Friendly: even in the wee hours of the morning, the staff are always friendly and welcoming. Early: with a 5:30am open time on weekdays, Starbucks has our allegiance. No other coffee shop opens that early! I am writing this post because our go-to Starbucks has undergone a fabulous renovation! The new seating areas are cozy and able to fit even more folks. And the new look is chic, inviting, and clean. My favorite aspect is that the mobile pickup counter is now near the door. We no longer have to enter and walk across the entire store to get our mobile order...it's right there! Woohoo! All this to say, our favorite Starbucks just got better! The people who work here are very nice but do not listen to what you are ordering. I have been here 2 times recently because they closed the Starbucks I normally go to. Beautifully designed Starbucks in Evanston but $6.76 for a Venti cup of iced apple crisp Macchiato coffee is INSANITY. It's a good thing I had a $5 gift card to offset the cost of the coffee. I usually don't go to Starbucks for this reason. Paying that price for a cup of coffee use to buy you a meal. Where do you draw the line? That being said Starbucks has become a way of life for many people that don't seem to mind paying outrageous prices for coffee. Sure the coffee is good but not something I do very often. This Starbucks has a beautifully designed interior w/spacious seating & a nice interior space to work in. This review is about the awful condition of the women's restroom at this recently remodeled store. There are two stalls in the restroom but yesterday one of these had the toilet stopped up, the other wouldn't lock because the mechanisms don't line up properly. For what Starbucks charges for their drinks, these issues are totally unacceptable. Management must address these problems for both customers & their associates. It shows a total lack of respect to ignore them. Yesterday was not the first time my friend & I have encountered problems in the restroom. Check both the locks. read more

I just want to say thank you to Kelly and the staff here. They are so wonderful for knowing who their customers are. I really appreciate this service. They really go above and beyond. I don't remember the lady name who always wear the mask, but whenever Kelly is not there, she takes care of me and customers well. There's a brother who wears dreadlocks. He's also pray pretty awesome. Altogether, the entire staff is wonderful. The location is pretty nice, I've been going here since 2016. I seen the renovations and they're pretty great as well. I went out for a walk this morning and picked up a standard coffee at the 519 Main St. location, which is about a 15 minute walk to this location. I decided to stop at this Starbucks to finish my coffee as the wind chill was a little too cold for me to comfortably continue my walk. When I entered the store and made eye contact with the manager (black man with grey dreadlocks), he looked confused at me as I sat down with my Starbucks coffee at a table. The store was about 7-10% full with plenty of open tables and chairs, and the other employees didn't seem to care that I was there. After about 10 minutes I finished my coffee and decided to get a drink of water before continuing my walk, so I went over to the complimentary water station and back to where I sitting to drink the water. The manager then walked over to me and sternly said "You know you need to order something here if you want to hang out here?" I informed him that I had the coffee from the other location, and he walked away looking annoyed without saying anything else to me or asking me any other questions. I was confused why he would say that to me, and started wondering if I looked threatening or something of that nature. I have a more progressive look with a scraggly beard, but never considered my look to be homeless or threatening, even with sweatpants and a black winter coat on. I left the store and checked myself out in a mirror to verify if I looked like my appearance was making any other patrons in the store uncomfortable and I ended up laughing to myself, because no, I didn't all. I don't know why the manager was profiling me, but I feel like the silent walking away without an explanation as to why he profiled me in the first place was rude and unnecessary. As Starbucks is a corporate company with training involved to be in the manger position he is in, I feel like he could have handled the situation better. read more

People and service are great as is usually the case with Starbucks. But the new renovation is unfriendly to people working/studying which is funny for a college campus. Seats have a weird bulge in the middle that makes them uncomfortable, long tables have no power outlets. Will never go again except to take free water. read more

This specific Starbucks location is consistent with making terrible drinks. They are extremely fast with fulfilling orders but the quality of the drinks are always terrible. My iced latte is always either super watery or missing some customizations. Today they forgot to put milk in my iced coffee when I specifically paid for soy milk to be added. The other day I paid for extra caramel drizzle and didn't receive that at all. The time before that I bought a brown sugar iced latte and was given blonde vanilla latte instead. I'm a huge Starbucks fans, so I know my syrups by heart! I can tell exactly what is missing from my drink with just one sip. The baristas are nice enough, I guess. But the management of the store really needs to consider retraining every employee that's assigned to the cold bar. When I picked it up the barista loudly announced my whole order, customizations and all. When another barista asked him why he did that, he said, "shame." Was he trying to shame/embarrass me? Customer Service: I give them a 5 on customer service. They are friendly and always show hospitality to the customer. They are very warm and friendly people. Food/Drinks: I give their food/drinks a 5 .. They also serve wine after 5 pm if you show them your ID. They have a variety of sandwiches, salads, coffee, drinks, coffee cake and sweetrolls. Price: Price is affordable and moderate. I give them a 5 ...It is true a Venti latte can cost $5.00 but you can get something like sparkling mineral water or juice under $4.00... Sandwiches are less than $6.00... So you could get something under $10.00 @ Starbuck with food/drink...They have the spicy chorizo, feta sandwich, and the new steak wrap... I can handle some dirty tables that just need a quick wipe with a napkin, etc. but this is honestly disgusting. First table we went to sit at , there was smeared snot on it. I've come here several times and depending on the day/time you come in, you'll have a very different experience. Firstly, this starbucks is set up to be very work/study friendly. They have a bunch of work desk areas around the store. It's also pretty spacious, so I've never felt that crammed. Also, the lighting is always on point where ever you sit. Cleanliness could be better. IMO, the trash shouldn't be piling over the counter. If you're coming here for your quick morning coffee fix, then you're in and out with easy service. They actually have so much room in the front to set up a nice line and walk way so that you can come in and leave without feeling like you have to walk through dense crowd of people. If you're coming here for a study session, then it's either a hit or miss. One of the workers actually smells really bad, and I've made it a point to try and find places that are far from where he walks. I didn't get a name, but he has long black hair that he usually ties up. Makes me wonder about the cleanliness of the tools that he uses when they make my coffee. Also, it seems like the night shift cranks up the music. I tried drowning them out with my earphones, but that didn't do the trick. I asked the barista to lower the music and he did so just a little bit, but when they saw that I put in head phones, they seemed to crank it back up again. It looks like they didn't get the hint that I'm trying not to listen to their Euro-EDM music. There are some nights where the music is at a minimal and I don't have to blast my music to get rid of their loud tracks playing on the speakers. Please get rid of the loud music. If you're going to be a place that's set up for people to study, then it doesn't help that the music played is only distracting to that purpose. I love this Starbucks. The staff is super friendly and the space is great, but the music is way too loud. My friend and I came here to study and we felt as if the music just kept on getting louder and louder. I even had my noise canceling headphones on at one-point listening to white-noise to try to drown out the loud music-- with no success. I understand that a coffee shop is also supposed to be a space to meet up and chat with others, but the volume was at a point where it was difficult to hear my friend talk. I felt like we were at a bar, not a coffee shop. I even kindly asked the barista to turn down the music. They said they would try to turn it down... I'm not sure if the employees have control of the music volume, so I'm not blaming them. However, I do hope that they bring up this issue to management. Unless this is a corporate strategy to try prevent people from staying for longer periods of time and to increase profits. read more

I love that there is always a Starbucks around just when I need one. It got to be about 4:00pm before I realized that I hadn't had my coffee yet, so we stopped and I got. One of the things that I love about the Starbucks in IL is that they all (so far) have been very charming. They have a unique style and decor, it makes me happy. The service here was great and my coffee was delicious! The lobby is good size for anyone wanting to sit inside and work or enjoy their coffee/companion. Came here this morning for a skinny vanilla latte. The good The place is spacious and bright with multiple seating options. Their is lots to choose from in terms of both food and drinks. They move the line along reasonably well, and are friendly when taking your order. The prices are reasonable and it's convenient. The not so good. Because of the size and number of people it is hard to hear when they call out that your order is ready. They should consider installing a microphone or intercom of some sort or start handing out pagers so people don't miss hearing their order called. The not good They need to do a better job of cleaning up the tables when people leave. No one wants to sit down at a table with someone's trash on it. At any rate my order was correct and tasted good as did my brothers. So we'll be back. read more

This is a perfect example of change being GREAT. The tiny, uncomfortable Starbucks, shifted a few doors down and has grown into a very large and beautiful space. Probably one of the largest ones I have ever visited. I really wish I had this in my neighborhood. This location has a very "green" feel to it, and I'm sure if you looked into it a little, it is probably LEED certified or something, I mean, we are in Evanston. It's got that reclaimed yet modern feel to it - the exposed light bulbs, and tables and chairs. Such a neat space to get some emails written, or to put away a few chapters of a book. As for coffee, it is a Starbucks. They do have a Clover machine that is quite popular with the customers. However, in terms of efficiency, it doesn't really compare to some Loop locations. But I couldn't care less, because compared to the old Starbucks, this place is a DREAM. read more

It's really cool. It has levels and fancy word-mirrors and very friendly and fast baristas. It does also have a proximity to campus that guarantees swarms of students, professors and regulars at all times - and I do mean SWAAARMS - but the baristas seem to be handling the heavy business well. I've waited in line twice - lines that looked very worthy of turning away from - and have gotten my drink within 5 minutes or so. Not a place you can go in a rush, but doable if you have a little time. HINT to Starbucks - you could build another location immediately next door and both would be busy. Go ahead. This is probably one of the biggest Starbucks locations I've been to. I remember how this Starbucks was much smaller several years ago, but with their newest renovations, it's definitely improved in size and design. Usually, if I meet up with a friend for quick coffee or have meetings in Evanston, I like to choose this Starbucks. Sometimes, it may be difficult to find a seat due to the large number of NU students studying at Starbucks, but with patience, you may be able to find a comfortable spot. Baristas are generally friendly and they seem to know many people who stop by this location. I like how this Starbucks stays open until really late. In Evanston, I find it's not always easy to find a place to chill and stay out later, but this Starbucks closes at midnight. If you drive to downtown Evanston, parking can be kind of a pain due to the meters and street parking, but that honestly never stops me from stopping by this location time to time. read more

New store! It's so pretty and the bar/counter is spacious. They've now added more food variety and heated flatbread panini things and the like. Lighting is sliiightly better, and I guess the yellowish lights suit the ambiance, but it's still too dim for productive studying imo. Unfortunately, it's always packed and kind of loud. Unlike some other places, the seating area is tightly packed so a full house is pretty loud/distracting. I still get my drinks to go or just come here to talk maybe. Also, wifi is super slow, even when the store isn't that packed. Drinks have become inconsistent, which is ridiculous to me since it's effing Starbucks and everything is so standardized. Last Tuesday (6/25), after dinner we decided to have coffee. Few minutes before 10 pm, I ordered 2 brewed coffee and payed for it. Then staff informed me that he ran out of brewed coffee instead gave me cafe americano. I reacted by saying that Starbucks ran out of coffee? His response was " we are actually closed 2 minutes ago". I'm not sure of the names of the people who worked a night shift on 06/07.. it was 2 white men and 1 white lady but they were extremely rude to my friend and I. Not only did they mess up my drink and take 10 min to give me a new one when no one was in line, but when we were heading out the door one shouted "yess get out of here" thinking we didn't hear them. They also kept making smart comments about my friend and I just because we asked to remake the order. Super rude, customer service sucks you can tell they don't care for your drinks. read more
