I walk to this starbucks early in the mornings and the baristas are usually consistent and friendly. When I do an afternoon run or my daughter goes to pick up at this location, the male teen or younger red headed gentleman who works at the shop (he is not a barista) is extremely rude. He barks orders at the crew and is unwelcoming to customers. At this point we started to go to Peets across the street in the afternoon because of him. Such a shame. read more

Located in Downers Grove right by the railroad tracks, this Starbucks is a convenient place to get your daily coffee, breakfast treats, etc. before work or just to start off your day. Since corporate changed their "open door" policy, you're required to make a purchase to be allowed to sit in there. It was nice to be able to sit in here if the weather was bad and you didn't have any money, but good things don't last forever. They are so strict here now that you now can't use the bathroom unless you make a purchase either which is too bad since it's a much more sanitary option than the train station, which people mess up. I understand it's all corporate stuff, probably even with the bathroom, but it's just too bad they're not as friendly as they used to be. One other thing you should know is they're very strict about sleeping, which is fair enough, but close your eyes for two seconds and expect to be told "you can't sleep in here". Overall as far as Starbucks go this is not a bad location but it's too bad that they're no longer any more friendly than the Peet's Coffee on the other side of the tracks. read more

Y'all the manager at the #266 location, Jasper Choi is effing fantastic. I'm here twice a day to get my coffee from this location, since it's near my office. I always see him going above and beyond any "manager" title; this man is clearly a leader, and a great one. One that leads by example, stands up for (and corrects) his team when a situation requires, and seems to do everything he can to ensure his location has what they need to perform top tier. This morning he was behind the bar helping a team member with something. He was limping, clearly in some kind pain - y'all; still greeting every customer that walked in, catching the regulars by name, still being one hundred percent present in the conversation with his team member needing his help. Elite for most, standard behavior for Jasper. Anyway, I walk up to order my coffee - but realized I forgot to place the order. I was laughing about it with another awesome employee mentioning that my tire was flat and the lug nuts were seized so I needed some more "oomph" to get 'em loose...but before I did all that, I needed my morning coffee. Lol. Y'all; before I checked out - here comes Jasper, with MY (not simple) espresso drink in hand, greeted me by name and handed it to me, and stealthily mentions to his team he's taking a ten. I was highly impressed, and feeling pretty awesome. I turn the corner after I left, "Boom!" Y'all here comes Jasper with a mallet, still limping, saying he's coming to help me with my tire. He used his own air compressor, on his break, through an injury, to fill up a customer's tire that was giving them grief. What a human. Leadership over management. Jasper Choi gets it. Thank goodness that this Starbucks is located within sight of the Downers Grove Main Street Metra stop. I spent eight weeks at this Starbuck, sipping almond milk lattes, charging my cell phone, and feeling eternally grateful that there was a coffee shop with clean bathrooms so close to Metra. In the perfect world, I wouldn't spend 60-90 minutes waiting for the 2:48 train to the Loop. But since I was, Starbucks was a life saver. There's nothing outstanding, either positive or negative, about this location. My drinks were always good. The staff was always pleasant. The bathroom was always clean. The wi-fi always worked. The heat worked well on cold days, and on hot days, there is outdoor seating where I can soak in all the vitamin D I can. My only unfulfilled desire is for a vegan treat or two. I keep hearing in Facebook groups that Starbucks is offering plant-based selections, but that sure isn't evident at this location. Oh well. I'd rather not be stuck waiting in Downers Grove ever again for the rest of my life. But, if I am, it's good to know there's a comfortable, secure place for me to while away the time. read more

This Starbucks is conveniently located near the Downers Grove Main Station. I take the train often to and from the city and when I am in need of coffee, I just make a quick stop here before I continue my journey on the train. This location offers street parking around the store. The store is small but the employees were fast and efficiently to make your drinks. There's about 3 small tables and a few loveseats and an area of high stools that faces the window for you to sit and study and people watch while you enjoy your cup of joe. I would definitely come to this place because of its location and staff but I would not recommend coming here if you want to study in a group of more than two people. read more

I enjoy Starbucks for the consistency and atmosphere. I think of it as a place to spend some time enjoying coffee and, potentially, company. Another important factor is the attentiveness of the staff. This Starbucks fit most of my criteria. As always, I ordered a Venti Pike with a small, empty cup on the side (I use it for a little skim milk to be added separately). I received the order as placed, and the Venti was filled to the brim (unlike some other, stingier locations!), and service was rapid. However, some things about the store were lacking for me. The boomerang-shaped layout made it confusing where the line should begin. Lucky me, there was none. However, I stood at the counter a good 2 minutes before the baristas broke from their conversation about getting a new car from a parent before they addressed me. I used my iPad for its app, since I've been having trouble with my phone, and the cashier made a rather snarky comment about it. As soon as she put the coffee on the counter and checked that I'd paid, she walked away to return to her conversation. I felt a little bit ignored and underserved. I guess it's okay, but Starbucks has always been a friendly oasis to me. The bar area was well stocked and neat. There was plenty of skim milk, which made me happy! But no chocolate dust :[ That's okay. I found an empty seat and settled in. But again, layout made a difference. Because of the 'boomerang' shape, seating was shoved into the very ends, in corners. There wasn't a lot of seating to begin with, and it felt cramped, cold, and impersonal. The large shared tables and communal sitting areas which are usual features of a Starbucks were lacking. Instead, there were two plastic-y chairs, a few tables, and a sitting bar against the window. It wasn't conducive to friendliness or sense of community. A plus: The WiFi not only worked, but didn't logout randomly, and was pretty fast! This is a big plus. I've been at several Starbucks with spotty WiFi connections, which conflicts with my ability to work. It's almost like wasted time. So definite plus for reliable WiFi. Finally, easily accessible via nearby train station and easy walk from neighboring suburbs. Overall, balances out to an average Starbucks. Nothing special, and lacking in a few areas. If you're a Downers Grove Metra rider, this Starbucks is probably a pretty solid choice, as it's a stone's throw away from the station. Beyond that though, this 'bucks is just ok. I popped in here a few weeks back to get some work done and first things first, while it may look like a large Starbucks on the corner, seating is actually really limited due to the L-shaped layout of the store. If there's a line of any kind, it gets reeeeeal cozy up in here. Beyond the awkward, small-ish space, the baristas ranged from friendly and helpful (gotta love those free in-store refills on coffee or tea with your Starbucks card) to "dude, where's the tea?" Wi-Fi was standard and solid, so that was the saving grace for the not-so-great working setup. Side note: because of so few tables, I had a man literally ask if he could sit down the *second* I stood up to put my coat on. He took my table before I even had a chance to clear off my things. So, yeah, it's a fine place to stop for a quick latte or tea on the go, but I wouldn't make this my local Starbucks even if I lived nearby. read more

The big table is good for going with a group, but other than that there is pretty limited room. When I returned the drink to the short brunette barista she gave me attitude then proceeded to use the same cup to remake the coffee flavored syrup for Kathleen. I have been into a lot of Starbucks...and the service here is about the worst... The servers have a major attitude about everything. They screw up your order while snapping at you that they "heard you the first time"...well, you obviously didn't because I'm trying to tell you that you are doing the opposite of what I asked for...but carry on! I had the urge to go into this Starbucks today, and just as for a Venti Whipped Cream. Just a cup full of whipped cream. There's something about Starbucks whipped cream, with just a hint of vanilla, that makes me think its really made with some type of addictive drug. I don't go into this Starbucks too much, usually i frequent the Caribou across the railroad tracks, but whenever I have a sweet tooth, nothing can cure it like one of their coconut chocolate chunk bars and a Dulce De Leche Latte! I think the reason I stay away is because it can be hard to get into, because the people who wait for the bus on the corner always crowd into the entrance foyer, making getting in and out a hassle. It's a Starbuck's, so we all know what to expect when going in there to get our morning fix. That said, the crew that works here is wonderful. I went in to pick up some coffee, they noticed I wasn't feeling well and suggested I have what they call their "sick tea" instead. It's a blend of two teas which they gave me on the house.
