Unfortunately, Brewed Awakening was not my favorite. The menu is a bit overwhelming with signage everywhere in shop (and no menu online), so I wasn't aware when I was ordering a latte that adding a flavor would be a whole $1.25 more. They also put my iced latte in a hot latte cup because she said the espresso was hot... which is odd because yes, fresh espresso is always hot. And they didn't have skim milk or oat milk., which are my two go to's. My daughter wanted a scone though, which was the best part! Service seemed rushed (i.e. before I was even done putting my card back in my wallet, she was taking care of the next person by shouting over me), which made me feel frazzled. However, it is just a short walk to the park, which was perfect. Just not sure I would be rushing back anytime soon, which is sad because I love supporting local businesses when possible. read more

House coffee is always good. Otherwise I go for the iced coffee, or an iced chai tea. I almost always get a scone too because they're made from scratch and hard to quit. Tip: if you come in at 6:30am, the big muffins are always ready, fresh baked and hot. No line that early and every flavor available! read more

Chill little cafe in Westmont in the downtown area. It's not much to look at, but it has a few tables. Brewed Awakening is about as basic as a coffee shop can get. Has no non dairy milks. There's not much to eat besides a few bagels and cookies, basic stuff. A limited selection of coffee and food. It's about $3 for the drip coffee, which is about as basic tasting as it gets. They have cappuccinos and lattes, but be warned there's no choices of non dairy milk for these. Absolutely none. In a modern day coffee shop. Also nothing to eat but bagels and prepackaged cookies. It's about $3 for a bagel, with cream cheese being the only spread. A tip: bring a few packs of jelly. The selection is a joke but at least it's clean for the most part except for being kind of dusty and musty. For as bare bones as this place is, it's easy seeing why it's not busy. It seems most people get stuff to go. There's a few regulars who hang out in here, though. read more

Cute little spot right by the Westmont train station. I love trying out local coffee spots. Decent size menu of types of coffee. Despite my visit on a cooler fall day, I went with the nitro cold brew. It was pretty tasty. They had a decent selection of muffins and scones. I went with a cranberry muffin, and it was pretty good. On my visit, I noticed how the owner knew her regulars and how most patrons appeared happy. Loss of star for me was slightly uncomfortable chairs. Tables could have been wiped down better. Coffee served in Styrofoam cups; muffin served on a Dixie plate. However, I would recommend this shop for their variety and delicious coffee. read more

Decided to try a new coffee shop this morning instead of starbucks and peet's. Had high hopes, but unfortunately they were not met. The service was great, the owners were very nice. Very large menu with the usual selections. My friend and I both ordered hot americanos and my other friend ordered an iced coffee. Once we all got a chance to try it we all said how bad it was. It smelled gross, tasted burnt, and yet was also flavorless at the same time. Seemed like their americano recipe is drip coffee and water. Sad to say we won't be coming back, hoped we would've found a new go-to spot. :( read more

I am house/cat sitting out in Westmont. So, on my way back downtown to work, I stopped to grab some caffeine for my drive. Wow! What a great little spot Brewed Awakening is! The charm is hidden from the outside. Once you walk in, it feels like you are walking into someone's home. Sweet locals were relaxing with their coffee and a newspaper, coffee mugs hanging on the wall, cute seating areas and even a changeable train schedule. This is fantastic because the shop is located next to the Metra station. The two ladies working this morning were adorable. They were so sweet and personable. They told me they bake the gorgeous muffins themselves each morning and asked where I was off to. I ordered a simple black coffee - the true test as the taste is not hidden by flavors, milk or whipped cream. It was delicious. Of course, I tried a muffin. Once I got to my office, my highly anticipated breakfast was enjoyed. I tried the pumpkin cheesecake. Let me just say, it was so good I'm still thinking about it. I had no idea Westmont was so cute. And now I know you can get delicious coffee and a tasty treat in an adorable little spot. I will definitely return! read more

It's a nice looking place and the lady who works there is very friendly. The bakery goods are excellent such as the muffins and turnovers. Sadly the weak spot is their weak coffee. I thought it tasted nonexistent, so the next time I went in I asked about the alternative (Harvest) drink. "Is it a dark roast?" Yes. Some people prefer it to the house blend. Such a great little local shop, right in the newly renovated downtown area as well as close to the commuter train. I popped in her on a Sunday morning to meet a colleague for a quick business/personal meeting. Place has been here for decades.. Service was fantastic. Coffee was perfect. Couple of older gentleman sitting out front gave a warm good morning as I entered the shop. Just a great genuine local neighborhood feel. Help support a local businesss who has seen change through time with less traffic due to commuter remote work situations, it's worth hanging out and sipping the great brew. read more

I got the white Carmel mocha (iced) and it was probably one of the worst drinks I have ever had. It tasted watered down and like old coffee. I saw the coffee being poured in and the only other things added was a plain cream and ice. It had absolutely no flavoring of Carmel or even mocha in it. The only reason I am even giving it 2 stars is because the woman was very nice. The drink is basically not drinkable at this point. read more

Worst than gas station coffee. Styrofoam cups were terrible. My wife and I had to throw our coffee and latte away.

Coffee is just not very good, and too expensive for what you're getting. It tastes burnt and watery. It comes in a plain white styrofoam cup. Got a cappuccino and it was very heavy...I don't think the barista put any milk foam in it. I've had lattes, too, and the barista burns the espresso shot every time. They are nice, the ambiance is great, and it's the only coffee shop in westmont, but they need to work on the product. read more

This place is great! Comfortable ambience which is great first thing in the morning, coffee and espresso were quality and very tasty, and SYLVIA is the best! Very warm and hospitable that one. I didn't have any food off the menu or baked goods but it looked great on other peoples plates. They have cold brew and nitro coffee too. It's right by the metra station that heads into the city so it's perfect for those heading into work in the morning. I'm so happy right now because I just found this spot on a whim, and so I'll be back! read more

Quaint little coffee shop with free WiFi! Located conveniently by the train station, this is a great local spot to pop in for a cup of Joe and a freshly baked muffin. I love how eclectic Brewed Awakening is. They have really cool decor and the cafe itself feels really homey. Service is quick, friendly, and it seems like there are plenty of proud regulars that are loyal to this shop. Last time I was in I posted up at the high top table by the window, which conveniently had outlets right next to it so I could plug in my lap top. They do have outdoor seating, but on a hot day the window seat is a great choice. I've been cutting down on my caffeine lately, so I opted for a decaf iced coffee which ran me about $2.50. The cup I was given was large, but it was a styrofoam hot coffee cup with a matching lid. Not what I'm used to when it comes to iced coffee, but they had straws and milk up at the bar so it worked for me! The baked goods in the case looked really delicious and are apparently baked fresh daily. They also have a nice variety of coffee flavors which I'll have to indulge in next time I stop by. As always, I'm a fan of any welcoming local coffee shop! Pro tip: From what I could tell, the WiFi password wasn't posted anywhere, so just ask and they'll tell you what it is! read more

The coffee was not good and somehow 2 plain black house blends in medium styrofoam cups came out to $8. It felt dirty and dusty inside, and the employee behind the counter was coughing and sneezing. I got a cold a couple days later. He was also watching loud videos behind the counter, and started closing up an hour before the posted closing time of noon. It was 10° outside and he opened the door to "get some air flow" and I think it was to get me and my friend to leave. I am very easy to please, but this experience was just so unpleasant and I would never come back. Unless you want to get sick from a cup of coffee and be more or less kicked out an hour before a place closes, I would not recommend Brewed Awakening to anyone. read more

Stopped in for the first time last week. I think the only reason for the "rave" reviews is because this is the only coffee place in downtown Westmont. It's the only place people can grab a cup before hopping on the train. Walked in & the woman behind the counter had to finish up her conversation with the people walking out the door before tinkering with something else & then decided to help me. I'm not a coffee drinker so I decided to try the BOB's hot cocoa. It was HORRIBLE!! I think the cocoa mix is probably years old & she definitely didn't add enough mix to the "grande" size I bought. I also tried a chocolate chocolate muffin. The sign said "new" so maybe they just don't have the recipe right yet. Unfortunately it was a dry dry muffin. My husband got the banana nut muffin which he said was delicious. I won't spend my money here again. Definitely not worth it! read more

Ordered the Mexican coffee and was given the Blueberry coffee, ordered the cranberry and blueberry muffin, nothing on the sign said it was jam-packed with walnuts/pecans - didn't know either of these things until after I left so I couldn't ask for them to remedy. The full order wrong and the place wasn't super busy. Coffee : I don't like fruity coffees, 0/5 Pastry: can't eat anything with nuts, 0/5 Service: alright on the upfront but the result of my order brings it to 0/5 Venue: 3/5 I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and overall 2/5 rating - just check your order before you leave. read more

On a hot and sweaty Sunday morning, an iced caramel coffee at Brewed Awakening hit the spot. Independent coffee shops are rare in the suburbs, so I automatically liked the place. The drink menu is fairly basic: coffee, frappucino, hot chocolate, chai, and an assortment of flavored syrups. Aside from their menu, I got the impression that if you can dream it, and they've got the ingredients, they'll make it. My iced caramel coffee wasn't anything special, bu t it did the job. I thought the styrofoam cup and sip lid were a little odd for a cold drink, but the vessel doesn't make or break the drink. I also had a pistachio muffin which was the perfect treat before I ran my errands. There were at least another 4 muffin varieties available too. All of this in a quiet, eclectic cafe, which also hosts a quiet environment for those who want to change up their work-from-home or study routine. The last Sunday of the month is open mic night for all you hepcats with fresh rhymes. The only down side is that they close early - 2:00 p.m.! Brewed Awakening is located across from the Westmont train station, so after they've raked in the $$$$ from the morning coffee commuters, they're probably ready to call it a day. read more

My last job required me to travel to Chicago pretty often for training and Brewed Awakening sat across the street from where I'd catch my train into the city. There are many early mornings that I stumbled bleary-eyed into this shop in need of breakfast and a hot chai. The staff was always cheerful and would be ready with a smile. They were quick as well so I always made the train on time. Breakfast for me was usually a muffin and their Magic Pumpkin Nut is one of the greatest things my taste buds have ever experienced. They had some lovely danishes and bagels as well, though I never had a chance to try them. The Brewed Poets Society meets there for poetry readings and there is also live music on featured nights as well. I could sure use a Magic Pumpkin Nut muffin right about now... read more

I first stepped inside Brewed Awakening on a wintry day after getting off the train and finding that my taxi was late, so rather than freeze outside I opted for this warmer location. As luck would have it, this turned out to be a happy turn of events! The coffee is amazing--I highly recommend the Snickerdoodle flavor! Also, the muffins are the best I've tasted anywhere. Holy cow. I especially loved the pistachio flavored one I tried last week! So big and fluffy and sweet! The lady who runs the place looks like Juliette Lewis and is very sweet to regulars and newcomers alike. She epitomizes not only great customer service but genuine caring toward humanity. I wish every coffee shop (ahem, Starbucks) had such lovely employees. The decor consists of mainly 60s and 70s rock memorabilia, which is pretty cool. Comfortable chairs and a welcoming environment add to the experience. I believe they have recently extended their hours so they are now open til 5pm during the week (previously they closed at 3). With its convenient location right across from the train station, there's no reason this shouldn't be the most popular coffee place for miles around! read more

The Brewed Awakening coffee shop in Westmont, right across the street from the Burlington station, is pretty decent, as cafés go. Brewed Awakening's main market, and source of customers, is the crowd of commuters who grab a cup of coffee while waiting for the train to Chicago. The café kindly displays the Burlington Northern schedule prominently. It also has a live TV feed directed at trains coming in to the station, heading to Chicago. A commuter can literally see the train pulling up and gauge how many seconds remain to do whatever before dashing to the platform. Brewed Awakening's décor is modern style, nice looking and comfortable. While it does not fit the décor of the traditional coffee house, Brewed Awakening has the feel of a real coffeehouse. This is especially true after the morning rush hour crowds taper off. The café is a WiFi hotspot, has live music and poetry readings occasionally, and is just a nice place to hang out, in general. The coffee is not bad. I have not had any of the food items. I can recommend Brewed Awakening, whether you are a morning commuter or whether you have the day off, and are looking for a peaceful place to drink coffee and work on your iPad or laptop. read more

I used to live at 55th and Cass(moved 8/04) and would walk to Brewed Awakening just for the coffee and ambiance. Its a great place to have a latte, some pastry, sit down in the overstuffed chairs with book or paper and enjoy being alive. Brewed Awakening is what coffee houses used to be, a place for people to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and conversation. The only problem is that, due to financial constraints, they have cut their hours. I still run over their occasionally on the weekend when I need a bit of space and time to clear my head. read more
