After weeks of renovation- a new look April 2018
    Allison T.

So far so good. Haven't had a problem. I was really bummed out when they closed for 3 weeks or so for renovation, but it's for the better. There's definitely a more modern look to it. They're renovating because it's worth renovating, right? Typically it's busy on afternoons so there aren't many empty tables. The parking lot is typically packed as well. They have patrons that are people who stay to have drinks (and study or talk), or people who are on the go. In my last visit, the barista was super friendly. I wasn't sure about the nitro cold brew and she said it was pretty good.

"They do this by memory. Every day I walk in they ask "Having the usual?" This is why I don't mind spending $5USD on a cup of coffee...." it doesnt seem like much to know my usual drink til you see what the cup looks like! Do you love "your" starbucks or just love "starbucks" in general? when you walk in this store, you soon find you love the people and not just the coffee. thanks to everyone here for making my morning addiction go down so smoothly, its empty before montrose...

I was starving en route to that Starbucks and figured to order over the phone as I was driving so I don't have to wait. - I'm on my way to this place can I make my order over the phone please? - We don't do that - A few days back I was able to make my order over the phone with you - Well.. we typically don't do that - Thank you, you're very helpful As came, I ordered the oatmeal, the nuts and the berries. They got me the dried fruits instead of the berries (fresh blueberry goes by the berries among the cashiers). I was trying to ask if they had types of tea other than packaged and the cashier wasn't interested in sharing that information with me. In the end he gave up and told me there's soon going to be full leaf tea available. Point scored. I also ordered the turkey pesto panini sandwich, which wasn't fresh as I tasted it. The bad news is their sandwiches don't have the "packaged on" date or something like that, which makes it impossible to differentiate a sandwich made this morning and overnight leftover one. They claim their sandwiches get delivered every morning which I don't believe. - I want to make a complaint. I didn't enjoy my sandwich, I had to throw it away halfway eaten. It didn't taste like fresh. I got my refund right away which is the good news. My stomach voted no on the half of the sandwich I ate, so I should have tested the smell before I took a bite. That would be my tip for the sandwich customers :)

thanks for the horoscopes...that did not have any substance to it...at all!

After a serious contemplation, I decided to redeem my birthday reward (don't laugh). Before moving to Chicago, I used to be able to tolerate the coffee that Starbucks made. However, I have all the respect to the baristas, but I'm too libertarian to trust large corporations. That's all. I got a venti vanilla macchiato and hubby got the vanilla bean frappe. I knew what I was tasting: pure sugar with vanilla flavor. I'm sorry, but Starbucks just can't measure up with some of the awesome local and mom and pop coffee shops here in Chicago. The entire place was busy, on a non-festive Thursday evening. There were some students burning "early evening oil" and some working professionals were having some meetings. The patio had some patrons as well. Thanks for the rewards program, which I signed up for an unknown reason. We will see you again when I turn age of 30 in 2015.

No problem with parking and very conveniently located Starbucks. No wireless charging stations. Clean bathroom, when place nearby

The Blond barista was having an attitude early morning. The drink wasn't that good either.

A very nicely decorated place with great taste and attention to detail. I went with my friends for an afternoon coffee. We all ordered different types of coffee, and every single one was excellent. Unlike chain coffee shops where everything comes in paper cups, here you actually get a real cup, which I really appreciated. My friends also ordered spinach pie and said they hadn't had such a good one in a long time. The guys who work there are very kind and pleasant. Overall, everything was truly wonderful. I would definitely recommend everyone to visit this place!

This one was no different in the style, and decor of the interior there was also no different in being extremely busy. It might have been our fault for coming on a weekend, but we had no other choice. And it was as busy as ever. However, it was quick. They were quick to bring it our order out, and have it ready, despite being so busy inside. We did have to wait a little bit to find a table for our family as large as ours, but that seems to be the norm, because most tables also seem to have about six people on each. The adeni as always is a must have and always my favorite to get. The honeycomb bread and a smattering of other little treats we got from the display cafe that they have was also good and welcome to have in a typical windy day. I would note that even though it smells delicious in here with the coffee aromas, this does not would not be a good place to come to study. This feels like a very friendly friend of the environment because we saw so many different families here and because of that, it was very loud. Just as a heads up. If you're looking to have tea or coffee after dinner out with a family, then this is the place.

I'm extremely thankful to have a friend who introduced me to this bagel spot. Definitely a top 2…read morefavorite of mine. I haven't been to the location but have had these bagels consistently for over 10 years. The texture and flavor of the bagel is everything a NY bagel is and should be. Fluffy on the inside, somewhat crispy on the outside, and oh so thiccccccccck! Their cream cheese?! Ugh! Don't skip on it, seriously everything about this place is perfect. My go to selection is the egg bagel with chive cream cheese. It's chef's kiss and hits the spot. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME!!!!

If you're expecting this to be interchangeable with the franchised bagel places that have spread…read moreacross the country, recalibrate now. This is not that. I've been going to New York Bagel & Bialy for over 50 years, and places like this operate on a different clock, a different standard, and frankly, a different philosophy of what a bagel is supposed to be. Timing matters. If you show up after about 8:00 AM, your odds of getting bagels at their absolute peak--still warm, properly textured, with that slight resistance on the outside and softness inside--go up significantly. Earlier can be hit or miss depending on the batch cycle, but once they're in stride, this place delivers. The essentials are all here and worth your time: poppy seed, sesame, everything, and especially the bialys. The bialys alone are reason enough to make the trip--properly done, with the right chew and depth of flavor that you simply won't find in mass-produced versions. Don't overcomplicate it. Grab a dozen. On your way home, stop and pick up a couple packages of Philadelphia Cream Cheese and some smoked salmon a jar of capers, a Bermuda onion--whether here or even from Walmart--and you've got a meal that outperforms most brunch menus at a fraction of the cost. This isn't trendy. It's not trying to be. It's something better: consistent, old-world, and still doing it the right way. If you're going to call something a bagel, the standard is not branding--it's process. That's why New York Bagel & Bialy on Touhy stands apart. They actually do it right: kettle-boiled first, then baked in rotating ovens. That single decision--boiling--changes the entire structure. It gelatinizes the outer starch layer, locks in density, and produces that thin, glossy crust with real chew. Without it, you don't have a bagel--you have bread with a hole. The rotating ovens matter too. They deliver even heat, which means you get the correct balance: a slight exterior crisp with a dense, elastic interior. No puffiness. No sponge. No collapse under toppings. That's the difference here. Most chains optimize for speed and shelf life, so they steam or shortcut the process. Many local shops land in the middle. This place doesn't compromise. If you care about what a bagel is supposed to be--not just what it's called--this is the benchmark in Chicago.
