Apple strudel, plum cake, and a fresh chocolate donut

I came her to catch up with an old friend over pastries and coffee. It is such a charming and clean bakery full of European goodies. I tried the apple strudel which was fresh and packed with apples. I also tried the plum cake which was also very tasty. Customer service was top notch! I am looking forward to coming back to try more of their baked goods.

Great bakery for donuts and coffee cake. The birthday cakes never disappoint!!! Incredible decorating and on this cake that I picked up for my wife's birthday!!

Love that this place opens early. Great for last minute birthday cakes. I came here early before work to grab a cake for my colleague's birthday since nothing else was opened that early. Other than cakes they also have donuts, cookies and pastries. As you walk in you can smell the sweetness. I got a chocolate cheesecake which tasted amazing. And if you want to have them write "happy birthday" tag on the cake it would cost $3. Overall I would come back again to try the pastries and cookies because it all looked so yummy!

I love this place. I first found out about it through a friend who brought me donuts from here and they were to absolutely die for. I loved loved love them so much- they weren't dry, they were moist and they had the most amazing taste. Dunkin' Donuts across the street from them is no match!! Be aware that quality comes with a price so of course they're a little more expensive than Dunkin but believe me, you'll think twice about have Dunkin' Donuts after eating these delicious donuts!! Let me tell you how much I love the quality and service of Schegls that I drive from Skokie to Lincolnwood just for their products even though Kaufman is down the street from me. To each their own but Kaufman is really expensive in comparison to Schegls and the quality is not there. My sister in law once bought the apple pecan danish and that bad boy was gone within a day in our household just because it was THAT good. It flaky, there was a good amount of apple and then the pecan along with sugar coating was the topping on the cake. I mean- I absolutely devoured it. Since then, I regularly stop in to get their apple pecan danish (even though they have a lot of other danish choices) but the apple pecan goes out really quickly so you have to make sure to claim it quick. The only downside to this place is the parking- it's so limited but on the weekends there is usually a line of people waiting to get baked goods from here. I love this place because it's a family owned small business- I love small mom and pop shops!! I highly recommend you come check this place out- you won't regret it!

I'm extremely thankful to have a friend who introduced me to this bagel spot. Definitely a top 2…read morefavorite of mine. I haven't been to the location but have had these bagels consistently for over 10 years. The texture and flavor of the bagel is everything a NY bagel is and should be. Fluffy on the inside, somewhat crispy on the outside, and oh so thiccccccccck! Their cream cheese?! Ugh! Don't skip on it, seriously everything about this place is perfect. My go to selection is the egg bagel with chive cream cheese. It's chef's kiss and hits the spot. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME!!!!

If you're expecting this to be interchangeable with the franchised bagel places that have spread…read moreacross the country, recalibrate now. This is not that. I've been going to New York Bagel & Bialy for over 50 years, and places like this operate on a different clock, a different standard, and frankly, a different philosophy of what a bagel is supposed to be. Timing matters. If you show up after about 8:00 AM, your odds of getting bagels at their absolute peak--still warm, properly textured, with that slight resistance on the outside and softness inside--go up significantly. Earlier can be hit or miss depending on the batch cycle, but once they're in stride, this place delivers. The essentials are all here and worth your time: poppy seed, sesame, everything, and especially the bialys. The bialys alone are reason enough to make the trip--properly done, with the right chew and depth of flavor that you simply won't find in mass-produced versions. Don't overcomplicate it. Grab a dozen. On your way home, stop and pick up a couple packages of Philadelphia Cream Cheese and some smoked salmon a jar of capers, a Bermuda onion--whether here or even from Walmart--and you've got a meal that outperforms most brunch menus at a fraction of the cost. This isn't trendy. It's not trying to be. It's something better: consistent, old-world, and still doing it the right way. If you're going to call something a bagel, the standard is not branding--it's process. That's why New York Bagel & Bialy on Touhy stands apart. They actually do it right: kettle-boiled first, then baked in rotating ovens. That single decision--boiling--changes the entire structure. It gelatinizes the outer starch layer, locks in density, and produces that thin, glossy crust with real chew. Without it, you don't have a bagel--you have bread with a hole. The rotating ovens matter too. They deliver even heat, which means you get the correct balance: a slight exterior crisp with a dense, elastic interior. No puffiness. No sponge. No collapse under toppings. That's the difference here. Most chains optimize for speed and shelf life, so they steam or shortcut the process. Many local shops land in the middle. This place doesn't compromise. If you care about what a bagel is supposed to be--not just what it's called--this is the benchmark in Chicago.

Truly amazing experience ordering from Sweet Temptations! I initially reached out two weeks ahead…read morefor my cake order, but I was so busy I nearly forgot about it until two days before I needed it...smh ...Nonetheless, they were able to kindly accommodate my custom Leon Kennedy coquette themed order. Truly, they did exactly what I wanted; it looked amazing. Normally, I'm not really a cake person, but I loved the flavor and everything, too. It was so easy ordering with them, picking up and honestly, I feel like pretty affordable too. I paid $90 for my custom order. Overall, amazing experience, highly recommend.

Today I was craving a slice of cake and because this was in my path, I pulled over and went in. They have a number of cakes on display plus various cupcakes both in packs and individual, plus other pastries and holiday cookies and a small variety of cake slices, including tres leches, mocha and chocolate ganache. I chose the chocolate ganache and couldn't wait to try it. It was so moist and delicious and while I'm a chocolate lover, it didn't even need the chocolate icing! I also picked up a package of the holiday cookies as a gift for our neighbors and I saw the perfect cookie tray that I plan to go back and get to take to our holiday party at work this week. I must add that their prices are very reasonable for a bakery too!! I'm glad I stopped in and plan to be back as mentioned.
