Battlefield Boulevard, just outside the Great Bridge section of Chesapeake. Having visited their Summit Pointe location before, we were pleasantly surprised by just how spacious this café is. The Great Bridge location offers plenty of comfortable seating, making it an ideal place to meet friends, catch up on work, or simply relax with a great cup of coffee. Their retail area is also much larger, featuring an impressive selection of branded T-shirts, hoodies, mugs, coffee beans, and other merchandise for those who want to take a little piece of Pale Horse home with them. We arrived just before the Saturday morning rush, which proved to be perfect timing. No sooner had we settled into our seats with our lattes than a group of nearly thirty people walked through the door. It didn't take long for the shop to become a lively gathering place. Despite the growing crowd, the atmosphere remained welcoming and unhurried. Whether you're looking for a quiet corner to enjoy your favorite espresso drink or simply stopping by to grab a coffee on the go, Pale Horse has created an environment that encourages you to stay awhile. In addition to an excellent selection of coffee, espresso, and handcrafted lattes, they also offer a variety of fresh baked goods if you're looking for something to enjoy alongside your drink. One piece of advice: arrive early. Word has definitely gotten out about this place, and it's easy to see why. Even if you happen to visit during a busy period and have to wait a few extra minutes, the quality of the coffee and the friendly atmosphere make it well worth your patience. Pale Horse Coffee continues to prove that great coffee is only part of the experience. Comfortable surroundings, friendly service, and a welcoming community are what keep people coming back--and after this visit, it's easy to understand why. !

A strong experience for my first visit after brunch at The Stockpot Chesapeake…read more They are located in the space previously occupied by Big Ugly Brewing. Parking is adequate. One of the first things I realized after stepping in their door is they are a very pro military operation. They have lots a sign that indicate military support like a wall hanging of Challenge coins. Also the names of the coffee. They sell a large variety of their own coffee in bags. They also sell merchandise. The roasting operation is open for the public to see. I decided on a cup of medium roasted blend. Staff was great and also useful assisting with my choice. They provide samples. They have space to enjoy your cup too. But I got mine to go. I was very happy with the taste and a good price point too. This was not my first time trying them as they offered at some area restaurants like American Brew in VB. I would love to return

My husband and I are regulars at Big Ugly but I've never taken the opportunity to try Taxus Street until this week. I tried to come on Monday and quickly learned they were closed, so returned the following day. They operate inside the brewery and have a nice setup in the corner. There is lots of seating - bars and high tops - and it's a great spot for a morning gathering. There was a meeting in the upstairs loft happening during my visit. The barista who assisted me was working solo. She was super friendly and happy to answer my questions. I was glad to hear they offer decaf espresso. I opted to try one of their seasonal lattes - the Mounds Bar latte with almond milk, mocha and coconut cold foam. It took only a few minutes for my order to be prepared. I did find the drink to be slightly sweet for my taste and would ask for half sweet on my next visit. For the lactose intolerant, they have almond and oat milk options. They also have several pastries and some hot food options to choose from like overnight oats and breakfast burritos from Burrito Perdido. I was really pleased with my recent visit and I'll be happy to come back soon!

I truly enjoyed the Belgian Waffle that comes with their house made mixed berry compote and powdered sugar, along with pure maple syrup, and house whipped cream. I liked how the chilled compote, syrup, and whipped cream were served in separate containers so that I could dip! Nice touch! The Belgian Waffle was fluffy and tasty! I also enjoyed my choice of The Lola (White Snickerdoodle Latte) specialty latte with oak milk (extra charge) that features white mocha, cinnamon & vanilla. My husband really liked his order of the Breakfast Burrito with bacon, noting how tasty their house salsa was. His specialty latte was The Moose which is their honey roasted peanut latte (toasted marshmallow, peanut butter & honey). Our orders were taken by the mother of one of the owners. She was very friendly and pleasant, telling us to take our time looking over the menu. She pointed out the month of May specials, and you could tell how happy she was to support this small business. We're thankful to have such a wonderful breakfast and lunch option with specialty beverages on the south side of the Great Bridge Locks. IYKYK

The environment didn't appear to be well maintained, and it made the experience feel unsanitary. What concerned me the most was watching an employee fill my boyfriend's iced coffee with tap water directly from the sink. That completely changed my confidence in how drinks are prepared. Good coffee is important, but cleanliness and proper food handling are just as important. I hope they address these issues because the coffee itself has a lot of potential.

This location was busy, packed with teenagers having a hangout sesh which I thought was cute. There were also people coming in and out grabbing orders for take out. I ordered the Fajita Pita as a rice bowl as always at the other location and I also got a Strawberry Watermelon Pineapple Juice. It took a little minute to get my food just because it was busy which I didn't mind. My rice bowl tasted the same as the other location which gave me much satisfaction and is a testament of the consistency across locations. The juice was refreshing and well balanced. I don't know how others can do it but the smell is just too strong to even consider anything from the cafe. Now, there are two rooms. A Kittens room and adult cat room. Usually the kittens room is the most crowded, but sometimes it can be the opposite depending on the day I feel like. When the rooms are too full it does take the fun out of the visit since you are less likely to be able to play with the cat you like. A true negative which isn't due to the facility itself but maybe lack of attention from the employees is sometimes there are parents who allow their kids to run wild and do as they please with the animals. The cats are adorable and up for adoption, great concept to make money while helping out the animals at the same time. Looking back at the photos and wow! I'm sorry it's been so long, but I'm here now! After an afternoon of driving up from North Carolina, I was ready for beer and air conditioning and some wifi. I found all here and it was a great spot. Open, comfortable and friendly. I had a high top table but there was all kinds of other seating, both inside and out. For beers, I very much enjoyed their Tiny Panzer, a tasty hefeweizen. For seconds while Yelping with my laptop, the BUB Lite was a lighter American lager that was surprisingly flavorful and totally crushable. Big Ugly does not have a kitchen (yay, they can have dogs!) and today they were pairing up with the Pinoy Delights food truck. They have a schedule on their webpage.
