    My breakfast combo!

Nothing makes you feel like home like Starbucks in a foreign country! Even if this foreign country is Mexico : ) We were lucky enough to have this Starbucks in the walking distance from our hotel and it saved us many times! Most importantly, it has AC! It is also pretty clean and has very friendly baristas most of whom speak English. Plenty of seating upstairs and downstairs and free Wi-Fi. Menu items are pretty much the same as in the US and they even take your gold card (no redeeming your stars though). You can pay both in pesos and USD, and frankly, there is not much of a difference. I loved the fact that they had a breakfast combo: if you got any of their breakfast items, your espresso drink was 20% off. They also gave us coupons for buy 1 get 1 free drinks - pretty sweet deal! Definitely made our mornings easier : )

Baristas were very nice and welcoming. I'm from New York so I was very excited to see a Starbucks in Mexico. There wasn't any difference but it was still cool to see familiar places in a foreign country. They didn't have black tea. They only had green tea. I ordered Strawberry Green Tea, Peach Green Tea, and Mango Green Tea. The Mango Green Tea doesn't use Mango syrup like Teavana's other drinks. They use Mango purée. Very delicious!

A tub of mango, pineapple, or watermelon was only two dollars each! They also had a lot of baked goods that looked yummy and a small food court. I also tried the flan, which was very delicious and not too sweet (which is how I like it). Overall, great grocery store! I would definitely recommend checking it out if you are in the area.

Gigante super mercado! This supermarket is huge!…read more This big supermarket has everything you'll need for a beach holiday! It's a regular supermarket, but I suspect that the locals don't shop here at all. The prices are pretty high, and much of the food isn't quite practical. This is a two story grocery store- not counting the parking. Be sure that you don't miss the top floor, where all the liquor and food hall is. Nom! Parking is on the bottom floor. They sell you validation at the cash register. Beware- the grocery bagger is looking for tips. My favorite part of the supermarket is all the cheap Mexican gifts they sell, with clearly marked prices. Actually, many of them are cheaper than the flea market down the way, because you don't have to haggle and deal with the cat calls from the clerks. Beware of the touts selling excursions and whatnot at the entrance. Just because they're in a supermarket doesn't mean they can't take advantage of gringos. This supermarket gets awfully busy in the afternoon. The aisles are narrow. It's best to come at an off time.

I just wished they were more checked-in with their customer service. They seemed bothered to talk and help us. Eight years ago, I came to Cancun on what was then my Yelp love adventure (read my reviews from…read morethat time for more info). Back then, I remember that there was an awesome coffee shop with ingredients sourced locally in the Yucatan Peninsula. Unfortunately, I did not find that store at Las Islas this time around. Instead, I found that the only coffee shop here is now a Starbucks. A bummer, because I didn't travel thousands just to drink Starbucks. Alas, I tried making the best of the situation. Granted, most other Starbucks locations in Mexico have provided me with great coffee and service. But this particular location was a rare exception. Let's start with the positives. The store has ample seating, both indoors and outside. The store is kept tidy. The bad... the baristas didn't know what they were doing. I would normally give the benefit of the doubt if the baristas are new, but they had to correct my drink twice. How hard is it to prep an iced coffee with a bit of hazelnut syrup? The ugly... the horrible tasting coffee. Two corrections, and it still tasted horrible the third time around. Fortunately, I added some honey, and we made our way out. Would I return to this Starbucks? Probably not. They need to get their act together.
