It was by sheer fate that I found myself sitting in this coffee shop twice in two days. That never…read morehappens. Not even at my favorite coffee places. Sigh. But what brought me here wasn't the coffee, but rather the location. This is the coffee shop in the lobby of Proctor's. It's a great meeting spot in downtown Schenectady, because it's large, has comfortable seating, and free wifi. Of course, there's coffee. Which helps. And the coffee is just fine. They have a dark roast, and a house roast. The house is a blend of Ethiopian and Columbian beans. A medium costs $2.16 and it's unimpeachable. Better than the convenience store. Better than the national donut chain. Maybe that makes it even good. They also have a decaf and a flavored coffee. The very presence of flavored coffee gives me a sense of what kind of coffee shop Apostrophe is trying to be. And that's a shop for people who don't really like the taste of coffee. I'm a hard grader when it comes to coffee places. I really want all coffee shops to offer great coffee and well made espresso drinks. Perhaps, there is something at this shop that makes it a standout. But I've yet to find it. Given Apostrophe's convenient location, I'll most certainly be back. But it does seem like there's a lost opportunity to use this location inside Schenectady's great theater, to sell coffee that's as fine as its surroundings. Especially since the people who pass through during performances, surely enjoy the finer things in life.

Apostrophe has done some upgrades recently, in both the layout and the menu, and it's definitely an…read moreimprovement. The chilled food is no longer glacially frozen, and the prefab sandwiches have some flavor and haven't been stale. The coffee situation is still mezzo mezzo, and the hot options are a little hit or miss. All that said, we are back to patronizing it when at the Proctor's arcade and are feeling in the need of a pick me up and are too lazy to walk over to Jay Street, but I still wouldn't categorize it as a destination.

Right out of the gate, the temperature of this restaurant was over 85 degrees and people were melting. No idea why or if this is normal, but it 100% hurt my experience here. The waitress seemed a bit snappy and not overly chatty. The place was a lot busier than I expected so she may have just been working a lot of tables. I wasn't expecting a lot from the food and it followed that expectation. Not much to garner for others reading this based on a chicken tender order, so I can't say what the highlights of the menu are. Good luck and hopefully you have a better experience than I did.

This business has recently opened. I think their edible goods will be much better if/when they get more patrons. Variety and turn over of perishable prepared-items are really important in keeping things fresh and tasty. The items I ordered were at least a day old, on the verge of becoming stale.

Can you get the best ice cream you'll ever taste at a gas station?…read more Yes, you can! At Stewart's Shops. When I return home each year, my kids and I eat our weight in ice cream. None of us eats that much ice cream normally. Every single day we're there, we end our activities with a visit. Besides being the best-tasting ice cream, the flavors are endless and the service is great. Best of all, the price is ridiculously reasonable. I always forget how cheap it is when we're here. My go-to cone is Mint Chocolate Chip with Strawberry. I alternate which is on the bottom. My mom likes the Banana Split, and my children usually get some form of Cookie Dough that's on offer. So, when you're stopping by to fill up your vehicle, stop in to fill up your belly with ice cream so good, you don't complain about brain freeze.

Union Street in Schenectady, NY is honored to be home to this excellent bakery known for its French…read moremacarons. It also has blondies, brownies, and cupcakes with unique flavors like crème brûlée and bourbon. Bri Larsen, a pastry chef with a Culinary Arts degree from Schenectady County Community College is the creative owner. She offers options for custom cakes and macaron towers. The bakery also offers in-store pickup and online ordering. Specialties: --French Macarons: A wide variety of flavors, including gluten-free options. --Blondies & Brownies: Includes unique options like "the local blondie" with Saratoga Potato Chips. --Cupcakes: A selection of flavors like caramel, cotton candy, and confetti. --Cakes: Custom-order cakes in various sizes. I am not a Macaron lover, so I bought a key lime blondie, a lemon bar, a caramel drizzle cupcake, and a gluten free raspberry drizzle cupcake. I found the blondie to be rather flavorless, but the lemon bar made up for it by being exactly what I think of when it comes to a good lemon bar. Slightly tart, a nice crust, and just a touch of sweetness on top. The gluten free cupcake was enjoyed by my friend who said it was exceptional. The other cupcake is a treat for my husband. Overall, the beautiful variety of macaroons are the breadwinner for this bakery. Not many bakeries make or sell them. Service was great--welcoming, helpful, and patient. I will definitely return. Prices are moderate considering the expertise required and the quality of the ingredients used.
