I'm a huge fan of Starbread Bakery! The first time I've ever had it was actually up in Northern California. There is another location near me that I enjoy, but we stopped by this location when we were in San Diego. Service was quick and the interior was very clean. There was a kind young lady who helped us with our order. We had gotten 5 pieces in a bag and also bought 25 pieces. The bread came out fresh and hot! It's indescribable. It's fantastic. If you truly enjoy fresh bread with some sweetness, you'll definitely love starbread. I have no criticism! Only love and excitement for the next time I get my bread fix!
Hola Senorita!!! Was around the area and my friend was like bruh you gotta try starbread man; they change your life. Really? I'm not much of a snacky or sweet person and you're telling me this is the bread of life?? Fine. I'll bite. We went there and he got us a bag of freshly made, hot senorita bread -- basic tear-off bread smeared with butter (and sugar?). We walked back to our car and ate them. Wow. Just wow. Glad I was eating them in the car. I was making all sorts of weird noises devouring these babies. Sooooooooo gooooooood. You gotta get them fresh and hot -- they're really life-changing.
This was my first time at Starbread Bakery the new location on Broadway in Chula Vista, CA. The first time I tried this bread was at a friend's party and thought it was so delicious. I was happy to see they opened a new location in my area. Starbread is a popular Filipino bakery in San Diego known for its signature "Señorita Bread." The bread is soft, buttery, and sweet. I ordered the 35 piece of Señorita Bread for $28. The bread sticks have a sweet filling inside and was a hit at my aunts house!! My freshly made order took about 3 minutes. The bakery was clean and provided great customer service. Check it out! Happy Yelping :)
We love the Spanish bread here. It's always warm, light, and fluffy. It kind of tastes like pandesal with butter and sugar. They have plenty of other pastries to choose from, but we always come for the Spanish bread. It's not quite as amazing the next day, so it's best enjoyed fresh. The service is always good.
I love señorita bread. I used to get it all the time when I lived in the Bay Area so a few years ago when I heard it was opening here I was excited. I rarely make it to Chula Vista though and certainly not in the AM. On this occasion it happened to work out. Parking was easy and there was no line. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I ordered a box of 4 (I had to refrain from more but they gave me 5, thank you). I took them to go. I ate one in the car on my way to my destination (I couldn't wait). The flavor was there but it wasn't cooked enough and was doughy and raw in the middle not fluffy like the ones I've had in the past (and in the photos in other reviews). Kind of disappointing. I'm not willing to give up though. The poway one is closer so I'll try that one next. Again the flavor was there, maybe they were having an off day?
I can't eat tyese things due to my diet restrictions, but i buy these for my co-workers and every time, they DEVOUR 'em! The seňoritas are def a favorite... they are soft, very tasty and that butter inside the bread is the secret!! The mochi donuts are also their faves. They equally liked the chocolate, ube, cookies n creme flavor, as well as the malasadas! In other words, you cannot go wrong with any of these
A coworker brought these to work and everybody was hooked! OMG I was surprised how much I liked this tiny little sweet buttered bread! I honestly couldn't stop thinking about it! Thankfully my other coworker remembered the name on the box and I was able to hunt this place down! Filipino bread also known as Señorita bread. It's light, fluffy, sugary and buttery! It's the perfect size, but you just can't have one! Definitely hooked on these. We bought a box of 20 the first time and each of us easily had four pieces. So there was nothing left over. The next visit we bought a box of 15 just for us. Yes, that's how much I loved them! I didn't want to eat them all in one sitting this time and wanted to save some for later. Unfortunately these don't stay well over night on the counter or in the fridge. They're just not the same the day after. I tried heating them up in the toaster oven and they just don't come out the same as if you bought them day of. So sad! The only reason why I would want to keep them for the next day is that it's far for me to go there and it's not convenient. I can't just grab a few anytime I want. The store also sells donuts, mochi donuts, Malasadas, other breads rolls, brownies, cupcakes and donut holes. Hubs enjoyed the different Malasadas. I couldn't help by getting a giant brownie too. I love a soft brownie with a crisp edge. Overall it was not as moist as I would've like it. Each roll is just under a dollar at $0.80 cents each no matter how many pieces you get. The store is very clean and organized. Staff is friendly. No issues parking. The rolls always come straight from the back. Is it worth a trip, absolutely! Can't pass up giving this place a try! Honestly how can you not dive in when these are pippin hot and fresh!? So that's what we did and that's why there's only 10/20 lol home of the señorita bread, rightfully so! They have many other sweet desserts but make sure you don't miss this bread! Service - quick, kind, efficient! Small, clean shop!
My friends and I were next door at Tacos el Gordo and wanted a sweet treat after. One of our group was familiar with Starbread Bakery from the Bay, so we went to get some señorita bread from there. The store was empty and clean. They sell their señorita bread in multiples of 5, and the price scales proportionally. They also have some packaged breads at the checkout counter and a display case with donuts and malasadas. I got 5 señorita breads for $4, and a guava malasada. When I was handed my bag of goods, the señorita breads were still warm! I've never had this type of bread before so I have no comparison. However, the fat, cigar-shaped breads were really satisfying while hot and fresh. They are buttery, sugary, and chewy inside. The texture was a bit homogenous for me, but still quite tasty. I had a second one hours later and it was not as nice. I think they would definitely benefit from a reheat if you have leftovers. The guava malasada was not my favorite. The jam inside was more musty than fragrant, and very artificially red. The dough itself was well-fried and soft, even fresh out of the refrigerator on the second day. I love the textural difference of the sugar crystals on the surface, compared to a traditional donut glaze. I ended up scooping the guava filling out of the middle and eating the fried bread. Overall, while I enjoyed the señorita breads, Chula Vista is a bit of a trek and I would not go out of my way to get them. I am interested in trying Starbread in the Bay, to see if they taste different.
I wish I lived closer to this, because everything was amazing. Stopped by around 1pm on a weekend (my first mistake). They were out of all ube items, but I did manage to get the last guava malasada. Also got one each of the pre-packaged dulce de leche and ube cheese bread by the cash register. Also got 8 senorita breads. The senorita bread is a must, super soft, with drizzles of liquid sugar in between the rolls. Cannot emphasize how soft this bread is. The malasada guava filling was soooo good - can def tell there is nothing artificial tasting about it. The remaining two breads were both very soft, good, but I'd probably try something next time that was previously sold out. Friendly staff! A must-visit, especially if you're already checking out Tacos el Gordo down the street.
Haven't had this place in years. It did not disappoint. Whenever I'm in the area I go to or I make it a pit stop when I'm south. My favorite is the senorita bread. This time I only got 10 pieces for $8 Must eat it in the parking lot, it's my the proper way to eat while it's HOT. I eat 5 of them in the matter of minutes. It's a light airy sweet addicting. Not overly sweet or buttery. Service is quick, staff is nice and happy to help
Wow wow wow! The señorita bread was so good and served warm and steamy. The bread was soft and had the butter and sugar melting in your mouth. The lady at the counter was also so kind to give us a free taste of the pastry before ordering. The space was clean and tidy.

My favorite go to spot for those days I'm craving a morning carb to complement my coffee. Starbread is the best. The service is quick, the pastries are fresh and they are always so friendly. You know it's great bread when you bring a box to work and everyone runs to you for a piece of a señorita bread. The warm, sweet and yet salty bread tastes like a cloud in every bite. It's soft, buttery and seriously hard to stop at just one. The location is small, but they offer many pastries. My favorite is the señorita bread but every now and then I'll grab the guava pastry when I want something a little different. You really can't go wrong with their pastries. read more

TLDR: Get the Senorita bread! I was so happy when I found out that there was a Starbread here when I was visiting the Gaylord resort nearby. I remember having these when I used to live in Northern California and loved them so much. I had a bout of nostalgia and couldn't wait to share this special treat with my daughter who had never had them before. When we arrived in the strip mall, there was no one at the counter but I guess they have cameras or there is a sensor when someone comes in because eventually someone came out to take our order. There is only one thing to get here (at least that they are famous for) and it is their Senorita bread. I love taking that first bite when given to us because they are warm, sweet and fresh. Maybe not the healthiest thing to eat, but it is quite the treat! My daughter proclaimed it was the "best bread ever"! We loved it so much, we came back the following day when we checked out of our hotel so that we could enjoy it on the way home and share it with friends. Apparently there are quite a few locations in Southern California (typically with a higher population of Filipinos) but I had no idea! Parking is easy and plentiful. read more

The best señorita bread I've ever put in my mouth! I was really never a fan of them, but I've heard this place is known for them so naturally, I had to get them. We came here about 30 mins after opening and there were two other people in the bakery. Service was pretty quick even though the employees keep on going in and out to prep orders. We ordered the 10 piece señorita bread, strawberry mochi nut and a coconut ube malasada. My husband became obsessed with their señorita bread! Unfortunately there aren't any locations where I live, so until we come back again! read more

Great place for a sweet treat at a solid price point! I was stunned that my bread was piping HOT. I love a hot baked good! The bread was sweet and addicting. I would definitely come again to bring a box to my family or team at work! :) very simple decor, more of a place to quickly grab and go. read more

Omg!! The star bread came out warm!! I bought a bunch for my last day of radiation. I bought some for the doctor, nurses, and the check in lady. The bread smell so good. I couldn't leave the parking lot without taking a bite of my star bread. It's so good!! The service is amazing!! The lady who took my order is very patient. The place is very clean with lots of goodies in display. We tried some of the mochi donut also. I love coming here for a treat for me, my family, and my doctor/ nurses. Sooo good ! read more

How does anyone rate this less than 5 stars???? This is the best pastry (their señorita bread) I have ever had. This is coming from someone who doesn't even like sweets that much. When they serve you the senorita bread, it comes out hot and it literally melts in your mouth. It's the perfect amount of sweetness (not too sweet). I have truly have never had something like it!! I love that I am supporting a family business too. They also have delicious mochi donuts. You truly cannot go wrong here!! I brought a box of senorita bread and donuts to an office and they LOVED it. I am so glad I have come across this place! Within San Diego, they have a location in Chula Vista and Poway. We had wonderful service and she was able to answer all the questions we had. Whether you need to fulfill your sweet tooth or you need to bring dessert to an event -- this is the place to go!!! Run for your señorita bread!! read more

We decided to try this place out. It's hard to find a really good donut locally so here's how it went. But first of all, I was honestly there to give their ube donut a try. The establishment was clean and orderly. Shelves were well stocked and prices were pretty average. The young lady that helped us could have been more helpful but it wasn't bad service. I did try the Ube mochi donut. It was okay but not great. I was a bit disappointed as it wasn't what I've had elsewhere. The texture was too dense and not soft like mochi should be. The chocolate donut was good. We also tried their coconut and dulce de leche bread. Sorry but not a fan. The bread again was too dense and the filling wasn't smooth. On day two, the bread was even more dense. I can say we did give them a try... read more

Been here multiple times and finally giving its deserving review. Starbread's Bakery is famous for its señorita breads. Got there right after 7AM so I can enjoy my morning coffee with the warm, delicious and buttery bread. Bought 20 pcs. This will not last long because it's so good! Also ordered Pan De Ciosa rolls which is also our normal order every time visiting the bakery. Assorted fresh baked mochi donuts and malasadas are also available to satisfy your donuts/sweets cravings. Quick and friendly service. Highly recommended! read more

Yum! Gotta love seniorita bread. I'm originally from Vallejo. Where there's another Starbread location. So I was really happy to discover this one! The bakery is very spacious and clean. I was greeted by a cashier who worked fast and efficiently. I opted for 10 pieces of seniorita bread for $6. Not a bad deal! I also snagged ube stuffed pandesal. Price was $6 for 3 pieces. I wasn't a big fan of it surprisingly. It lacked a lot of flavor. I loved the fresh seniorita bread the most. It's light, fluffy and not too sweet. Such a great pairing to go with your coffee or tea. There was also a wide selection of donuts I'll have to try next time. read more
