    Carioca
    Hannah H.

I came here twice on my San Diego vacation. Once on the way in and once on the way out. We showed up later in the afternoon Friday and were served fresh pandesal. I realized you have to ask the staff at the counter for the hot ones that everyone talks about in their reviews. It was soooo good. We even stopped on our way out to have for the week. Both times the staff were kind and attentive. They have a variety of other baked goods like carioca which we had and it was tasty! It's great because it's right next to seafood city which is why we had come to this area anyways. I'll definitely be back!

    Wait time is too long

The bread is delicious. Not going to argue about that, but it's Thanksgiving day and we've been waiting for over 1 hour and 45 min. We are still standing in line. If I would've known it was going to take this long I probably wouldn't have waited. Service is slow. I understand it's a holiday but the wait is just too much. No bread is worth waiting 2 hours+. Update: posted picture for approximate wait time. We weren't helped out yet when this picture was taken. Add another 15-20 min Update: came home only to find that I was 2 pan de Sal short. Really?

FRESH OUT THE OVEN PANDESAL AT 1:30pm

Came here because I was craving fresh pandesal at 1:30pm on New Years day and their pandesal did not disappoint. It literally just came out of the oven. So soft and fluffy! Best pandesal I've ever had!

Looking for a good filipino bakery?!? Bread deluxe is definitely a wonderful spot. The workers are so kind & helpful. My favorite would also be the ube pandasal!

Catching up on Yelp reviews. This is for a visit to Bread Deluxe back on 7/21/18. Despite just having eaten at nearby Goldilocks, our relative brought us to this place. OMG the smell of freshly baked goods, especially pan de sal sent me back to my childhood baking with my late father. I wanted it all the Filipino carbs! Ended up with Spanish rolls, pan de sal (both still warm from the oven) and puto. The latter I gobbled up back at the hotel. Next time, I'd pack another check-in suitcase just to fill with all these items and hope TSA doesn't snack on them. Freeze and ration them once I return to Shoreline, WA. Yeah that's the game plan. Clothes? Who needs clothes? I'll take some of the above, hopia, ube bread, mamon, how about just two of everything in the shop? Like the slogan at Jimmy John's...free smells! Make that free heavenly smells at Bread Deluxe. Bread Deluxe....National City/SoCal residents are so lucky!

Great spot for Filipino baked goods. They have bomb cheese rolls and ube ensymada. The coconut bread is the best! Love this spot!

Cute little place! I've been coming here since I was younger and I still love it. They have an amazing selection of breads and desserts and everything is fresh! This bakery is a bit hidden, so just start walking towards seafood city and it should be the suite next door on the left. It's also never crowded and the staff is always so sweet and kind!

I asked my coworker if she's been here since she's Filipino and lives near this bakery. She said she hasn't, but after looking at some photos on Yelp, she said she did- but didn't know the name of the bakery LOL.... She brought some goodies to work today for the office. The white puto was just for me! The purple puto, pan de sal, pork meatloaf, and hopia were to be shared with the rest of our coworkers. I love pan de sal and this one was pretty good. We tried it with the warm meatloaf that she brought, which was tasty. I also had hopia for the first time. There are different colored markings on top of this round, sweet roll. I picked the yellow one, which was supposed to have pork inside, but there was nothing in it! I still liked it though. The other fillings were mung bean and something else that she said didn't taste very good. I'm glad to try all these baked goods today for breakfast. I wonder how their polvoron tastes like....maybe I'll have to check out this bakery myself to see what else they offer.

The smell of fresh goodies baking in the back was mouthwatering. Unfortunately, I did not like the ensaymada ube it's missing that traditional buttery sweetness and zing. The Spanish bread had cream cheese inside which I thought it supposedly powder milk and sugar; reminded me of knock off eclairs. However, "suman in gata" was pretty good hence the 3 star. The service was ok; some guy in the back was howling or yelling and could be heard in the store. Overall, I would rather go to goldilocks which is in the same shopping center.

It was good, but for $8.25 for a 16 oz (their largest size), I don't think it was worth the price. The small is only 12 oz, so the portions are definitely on the smaller side. One thing to be aware of--I paid with a $10 bill, so my change should have been $1.75, but I was accidentally given $3.10. I returned the extra, but it's something they may want to keep an eye on as they're getting started. I'll definitely be back to give the Milo Mocha a try. Hopefully that one wins me over!

Located in the heart of Chula Vista,…read moreit is a family-owned bakery that specializes in traditional pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread), and custom cakes! Known for their fresh, daily-baked pastries, it features a self-service (tray-and-tongs) experience in a clean, welcoming environment! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Always making great recommendations for their customers! Parking can be a bit tricky with very few spaces available. Pricing is somewhat higher than it used to be, but then again so is everything else (like gas, lol). They have a great selection of conchas, polvorones, fresh bolillos, empanadas (chicken, beef, jalapeño cream cheese), and custom cakes! Typically, I get the empanadas de piña 10/10! They're so freaking delicious! They feature a golden, buttery, and flaky crust that shatters perfectly when bitten. Inside, they're filled with a rich, jammy pineapple filling that balances bright, tropical sweetness with a sharp, fruity tartness! Highly recommended!

The moment you walk through the door, the smell of fresh baked pan hits you and it is everything. The selection of pan dulce and bolillos had me feeling like I was back in Mexico City. So many options, beautifully displayed. That part alone almost made the trip worth it. But the customer service... yeah, I'm not the only one who noticed. I asked the lady at the register in Spanish if there was any chocolate pan de muerto and she completely ignored me. Like, didn't even look up. Just called someone from the back in Spanish, which, mija, I understood every word. The girl who came to help me was a little better but not much. She told me the chocolate pan de muerto was sold out, which fine, I get it, it was a holiday. But that's literally all you had to say. No smile, no "sorry we're out," nothing. Just took my money and that was that. The panadería itself deserves five stars. The staff needs some work. I'll probably go back for the pan because it really is that good, but I'm keeping my expectations low on the service side.
