Got my car towed today for a parking violation, that was a bummer. However, the lady and the driver were very nice, sympathetic and professional. The business that called the tow even mentioned they had gone in to double check, and give me more time to have returned to my car. I'm seriously fed up with how this was handled. Last Tuesday my car was towed from the lot at Jack in the Box on Front Street and I was forced to pay $445 to get it back. When I reviewed the paperwork from Star Towing, I noticed the authorization form claims my car was first seen there at 2:43 PM which is impossible because I wasn't even there at that time. Their own documentation shows a time that doesn't match reality. When I contacted them about it, instead of explaining the discrepancy they told me to "take it up with the restaurant." The restaurant then told me Star Towing has a patrol agreement and they don't call them to tow cars. So both sides pointed fingers at each other while ignoring the incorrect time written on the official tow authorization. I gave them a chance to fix this directly. They refused to review it, refused to explain it, and refused to take responsibility. Just pay the fee and move along that's the attitude I got. I've already filed a small claims case and will be pursuing this formally. They'll be receiving notice and will have to explain the timeline and paperwork accuracy to a judge. Documentation matters, especially when you're charging people hundreds of dollars based on it. Also worth noting I looked for their current Better Business Bureau accreditation sticker and couldn't find an updated one and many public reviews raise concerns about their practices. People should do their research before assuming everything is legitimate. read more

My car was towed by Star Towing around this time last year, and I still think about how bizarre and unpleasant the entire experience was. According to the receipt, my car was picked up at 11:01 p.m. One minute after the garage closed, and this was confirmed but the man at the tow yard that the tow truck was waiting downstairs of my building until 11pm so they could grab my car and go. I arrived at the tow yard around 11:30 p.m. with my boyfriend, and we didn't leave until nearly 2 a.m., despite the actual process of retrieving my car taking far less time. The man working the front desk, whose name is engraved in my memory - which I will leave out for this review, took this opportunity to practice his stand up comedy bit. What was at first friendly jokes and us awkwardly laughing along because we felt bad for this poor man who had to work the night shift at the tow yard, quickly took a turn, becoming overtly misogynistic. He made repeated comments about how "women always cause problems" are and "never admit fault to their men" while making very inappropriate comments about my relationship with my boyfriend (I have all of these on recorded video). It became very uncomfortable, and I had to ask him to just let us get the car and go. Even after we paid, the employee continued talking, dealing more offensive jokes, more stalling and kept us there for nearly another hour. What should've been a quick and simple (albeit expensive) transaction turned into an almost 3 hour ordeal that felt more like a hostage situation than a business interaction. The whole experience felt unprofessional, uncomfortable, and honestly, a little exploitative. Of course I would never recommend getting your car towed, but if you do experience this unfortunate situation, I feel so sorry for you that it had to be done by Star Towing and I hope you didn't have the same experience as me. read more

DO NOT USE THIS TOW TRUCK COMPANY! I was just THREATENED and HARASSED last night by one of their tow truck drivers: SDPD had to get involved and an OFFICER had to call them and tell them to leave me alone! The driver was trying to tow my car despite having a parking pass visible. He refused to look at my dash board and began taking pictures of my car and look through the inside of my vehicle with a flash light. His tow truck was across the street so he had no business looking through my car as he was clearly not going to take it. He threatened and said "I'm going to get you just watch!" and repeatedly said he was going to come back and "get me" in a screaming manner. I then told the Star Tow Truck Driver he had to leave because he was now threatening my safety and I advised him that I was driving my second vehicle and was behind him when I saw him drive through two stop signs without stopping and then going 25 in a 10 mph residential area. I had to call the police; SDPD responded and had to call the company themselves to tell them to leave me and my vehicle alone. If I could give ZERO stars I would. I attempted to email the towing company and the email is not even a valid one! I have filed a report with SDPD. I have also reported this company to the Better Business Bureau due to there illegal driving and unsafe practices as well as threats to residents in areas they work in. I have also submitted a formal request to my HOA to drop this company as they're harassing residents. My SAFETY IS NOW AT RISK AT MY OWN HOME DUE TO THE THREATS MADE BY STAR TOWING COMPANY. The owner of this company is not being forthcoming coming. I have a dash cam footage and the tow truck driver did not have any video proof of this incident as he was parked across the street. I've never had a worse experience with a tow company. Star Towing has people loitering inside my apartment complex parking garage, watching for vehicles to tow. The request is "officially" made by security, but the whole thing feels like a setup. Dispatch time: 12:15, arrival time: 12:16--they were already on-site. This is a clear, targeted, predatory practice. When I went to retrieve my car, several other residents were there too, picking up their towed vehicles. $340 for less than 24 hours is a ripoff, and their practices are unethical. In fact, it was less than 9 hours. What really made me uncomfortable, though, was their request for personal information. They made me fill out a form with my full address, phone number, and credit/debit card details--including my card number, expiration date, and CVV--even though they're just going to have you swipe your card in their card reader. When I asked why they needed that info, they said it was for "verification." Do not fall for this. There's no reason they should need your card info like this. I refused to give them my card details, but I can see how easily people could get scammed or have their accounts compromised. It feels like an attempt to collect unnecessary data, which could potentially lead to identity theft or fraud. And to top it off, the customer service was appalling. The woman at the front desk was either incredibly slow or pretending to be, making a bad situation even worse. This was, hands down, the worst experience I've ever had with a tow company. I was supporting a local business, not parking and leaving, yet these scammers still towed my vehicle. Talk about a total scam. I was visiting my friend at Apex next to Civita dog park where we often meet play with dogs. Plenty of parking that said visitor and I was in one of those spots and I have been visiting for a year at least they basically told me they were going to tow me because I was in the visitor spot and if I didn't pay the guy $175 I couldn't have my car off of the truck and he would tow it and that would be $ 475. So I basically had to pay him $175 which I did and I'm now disputing because I have pictures that to me is some sort of highway robbery like give me my fucking car how am I supposed to get home with two dogs in an Uber and then somehow get my car from wherever the hell you tow it to because you're pulling scams I am reporting them to the better Business bureau and I see they already have many violations. read more

Today I had my car towed as it had broken down, and I can say that it is one of the best towing experiences I've ever had (and I've had a few). The driver was extremely knowledgeable about my car and took every imaginable step to ensure that it was gently and securely rigged up for a safe tow to the dealer. In my case, this was made extra difficult as my car died while parallel parked on a hill with cars both in front and to the rear. For this towing service - no problem. By this note, I offer my highest recommendation of Star Towing. Their service, knowledge, time to arrive, quality of their towing trucks, etc., all exceptional. The employee named Jasmine or Yasmin refused to give us our cars because she said we were being disrespectful and she would not help a rude customer. We had all the necessary paperwork and were willing to pay but she still refused. We had to get law enforcement involved to get our cars back and we waited for hours in the hot sun outside. I cannot believe they are accredited by the BBB and I filed a complaint with them as well. It is absolutely illegal for a towing company to refuse to return your car when you have all the paperwork and money. The fees here are also insane- $470 for a car that was towed for less than 12 hours is obscene and so predatory. These people should be charged criminally and I wish I could give 0 stars. honestly fuck this business My car was towed less than 2 minutes before I left a cafe, and when I called Star Towing, my car was not even anywhere close to their yard; I wanted to call so that they would not put my car inside their yard (it's more expensive),,, but the employee was stalling for time??? He was very rude and gave me different prices each time I called on the phone to check. The first time, he said it would cost $670 to get my car which was not even at their yard (and had just left the premises of the cafe). When I called again to confirm, I used call recording which he was alerted for,,, and he put me on hold. A few seconds later he came back and was much more polite, professional, & gave me a much lower price of $460 (if i wanted to pick it up at night).. How wild is that??? When I showed up to pick my car up, the person inside of the building was fighting with a student's father (the father was talking to him on the phone) who had his car towed. Pitiful customer service, I experienced their terrible customer service when I used Urgent.ly in conductive with Uber since I received a flat tire while driving and do not have a spare tire since I have a newer hybrid. I was confirmed towing at 8:30 p.m, @ 9:30 p.m, 15 minutes after the app said that they were to arrive on scene, I called and spoke with a rep that seemed to have little to no idea about my ride and told me my driver was finishing a call in Carlsbad and would then pick me up in PB/Mission Bay Area. At 10:50p.m I called back to inquire and I was told the driver was still in Carlsbad and then went back and forth with the representative until I was told to give him 10 minutes to confirm details with the driver, This was now at 1105 pm. I waited till 1122pm to call him back only to then find out that the driver was off for the night and he would not be able to complete my trip. I waited nearly 4 hours to be told they could service the trip that they confirmed with Urgent.ly, Their customer service representative had no care or desire to resolve my issue and clear was just sitting at a desk with a phone without much knowledge of the situation. I was legally parked in a parking lot while going to a spa in that same parking lot. This route r trick company came and towed my vehicle without just cause and charged $470 for me to get it back. They clearly are running a scam because I was legally parked. I will be filing a fraud complaint with the city of San Diego as they appear to be illegally towing cars. Even the owner of the spa I was in came and told them that they had illegally towed my car. When I asked who called my vehicle in... they said they legally couldn't tell me... BS... they are just running around towing cars for no reason to collect money. In addition they wrote down my credit card info on a piece of paper so they could keep it even though they ran a charge on the card. This is completely illegal... they aren't allowed to store credit card, ID info, and insurance info without consent. They can ask to see them, but they legally aren't allowed to store that information in an insecure way... like on a piece of paper. They stored the vehicle in an area with trash on the ground and now I appear to have crap in my tire and a broken front bumper from the incident. The men there were laughing as multiple of us had our cars illegally towed. This place needs for the police to investigate them. read more

This is the first negative Yelp Review I've ever written, it's not something I pride myself on doing, and I don't feel good posting this. I'm posting this because amongst many reasons, I was gutted with an exorbitant cost by Star Towing to retrieve my car at $474, on a morning where I needed to get my son to his first college orientation by 8:00 in the morning. My car was towed, from what I can tell illegally, from my brothers registered guest spot in his high-rise apartment complex parking garage whom I was staying with, at 2:30 in the morning. Apparently no resident called it in, so the tow company was trolling the parking garage, ok fine, I understand it's a business. This particular spot, my brothers registered guest spot, is literally in the farthest corner, against the wall, so the tow truck driver must have needed to get out of his truck, walk around to the front because my 2022 vehicle windows are tinted. A $20 Uber to get to the tow yard, an additional $89 for them to open their gate before 8:00 A.M., really, that took them 10 seconds? A total of $474 + $20 = $494... WOW! The person at the window was ok, but not willing to grace the $89 due to our circumstances, which resulted in this massive additional towing charge and caused us to be late to his orientation. I really feel like I've been knowingly robbed by this company because they know we have no choice in the matter. Never should anyone choose this company on their own accord. I've never been so happy for a tow truck like I was when Aider showed up to give my drama queen Mercedes' AMG a lift to the dealership (again). This time, the air suspension was completely deflated. About five AAA tow trucks came today, no one had the right equipment. I called Mercedes roadside. The first truck was completely wrong, but the second one they sent was Aider! I'm extremely satisfied with the service that this company has provided! I needed to transport my Ferrari from San Diego to Los Angeles for services. They right away came to my location. They put plastic seats cover, steering wheel cover, and paper floor mat covers. They loaded up my car with low profile ramps to their flatbed without any scratch on the bumper! They gave very good reasonable price for long distance tow, and all the time of loading up my car to their flatbed. I most definitely rate them a 5 stars. When we went to confront them about this all they said is that they don't care. Pay or leave is all they had to say. Further it accuses my elderly Aunt of making counterfeit parking permits. Shame on you and your business. I will continue to pursue and engage you further. As previously mentioned, the permit in question has sustained wear and tear due to exposure to the elements, however, it remains a valid permit number. Despite this, there has been no response, inquiry, or follow-up from Star Towing regarding this matter, and my attempts to communicate with you or anyone else for that matter via email have been unsuccessful. My dispute remains unresolved, and I have made multiple attempts to reach out to various members of Star Towing's staff, including the manager, claims department, office, and owner, requesting resolution. On March 31st, 7-11 in Pacific Beach had our car towed illegally at 3:30pm for being parked to long in their parking lot. Being a Mercedes they had to tow the car from the rear and put the front wheels on Dollie's. For what ever reason the driver decided to take the I-5 north to the 52 east to the convoy exit instead (we think to add on mileage to tow) of a direct rout up Grand to Balboa then to Convoy. Somewhere near the 52 the Dollie's came apart somewhere the 52 according to the tow driver. He also stated that he noticed the car was kinda wobbling behind his truck. Meanwhile my wife had called me at 3:41 to come pick her up and take her to the tow yard. I left got gas and drove 13 miles to pick her up at 4:10pm and we drove to the tow yard on Armour dr. We arrived at tow yard around 4:40 and were told the car had not yet arrived and after 5 there is a extra $150 added to tow it's not their fault driver was not there. It had been almost a hour and a half since they hooked the car. Their truck arrived at 4:51 and the driver came out to talk to us about what had happened. He fully admitted to the accident and said the company would take care of all damages. I asked to see the car and speak to the owner. They took me into the yard where I meet Reza who claimed to be the owner and another employee named Ron. Reza repeatedly said they would fix the car he offered a auto body shop but I told him I wanted to take it to a Mercedes certified auto body. I asked Reza for his full name which he refused and I also asked him for the drivers name and was also refused. I then asked for their insurance company's name and was told not to worry about it just have autobody shop call him. He would not give me his business card only a generic card. Reza also offered to replace two tires with a exact same new at Evans Tire immediately so we could drive home. But he also demanded I pay for the tow. I called BS on that after what damage they had done to my car. Eventually we negotiated to change only one tire so we could get home and the fee for the tow would be dropped. Ron was very helpful in deescalating the situation. Tire was replaced. My insurance company have tried several times and I have tried to speak to Reza and he will not return phone calls and his voice mail is full.
