I had a very easy experience getting an on-site quote. I received 3 quotes for this job. 2 quotes, including this one, came in around $7100. I went with a third one at around $6700 (which included an additional mixing valve) and am very happy with my decision. Overall price was not a big part of my decision, but brand of water heater was. After doing some research online, the most recommended brands are AO Smith and Rheem (GE). Both higher quotes were for Navien, which has only been making heat pump water heaters for 1 year, but I was told that it is the most reliable brand. I did not understand how this claim could be made, given how short the duration of evaluation for this product. Even the worst appliances usually work for at least a year. So I requested a quote for AO Smith or Rheem, which I did not get. I'm not sure why my brand request was not honored, but it made me question whether I should go with a company that either has communication issues or maybe some type of deal with Navien that I was not informed about. Many water heater installers are preferred installers of certain brands, which means they can get better pricing, etc. I did not want to be a guinea pig for Navien.

The next day, I got another call the AC failed to work again, I replaced air filter. But the next day, tenant again said the AC doesn't work. Finally, I realized it's out of my ability. I called IRBIS to check up. IRBIS sent technician Christian Lopez to my rental house, he carefully asked the symptom from me, since I don't live there, he again asked directly from tenant to get first hand information. Then he checked up thermostat, and outdoor compressor, measured the air temp from ventilation. Finally, he told me that he believed the AC is working, even though it already has 21 years of age. Because my tenant doesn't run AC during the day, so the room temp goes too high, by the time they came back around 9pm, outside temp is low, but inside is hot, in that situation, the old AC is not able to bring the temp down. So he suggested tenant to run the AC little early during the afternoon, see what happen. The AC works so far. Christian and IRBIS are very honest and professional. Unfortunately, it took 2+ mins to get hot water. The installers came back multiple times over many weeks trying to fix it -- no luck. In desperation, we called Joseph at Efficient Water Heaters who came out and quickly diagnosed the installation issue. The next day, Omar performed the work and now (finally!) our Navien operates as intended. This business is Navien certified and it shows; they definitely know what they are doing. Oh, and they're very personable & professional throughout. Just call or text them to solve your water heater needs. No need to mess around with anyone else.

We eventually had some other work done, and this other plumber came and pointed out all of these "issues" with the water heater. Completely scared us with visions of fire risk and heaters not working in the dead of winter, told us that this wasn't to code (even though the permit was signed off). Loni came out again. Explained everything in great detail, as to how it worked, why the other plumber was wrong. Didn't get mad that we wasted his time, just wanted to make sure that we were happy with our water heater. However, often the truest test of a quality business is how they perform when things do not go well. In my case, I had to go four days without hot water because the unit I received was defective. The day after the install we found the tank had shut down, no hot water. After a reset and restart done over the phone with the installer assisting, the unit unfortunately failed again a short time later. The next day which was a Saturday, another technician came out to swap out the heat sensor which appeared to be the problem. While changing out the part, the tech noticed that insulation near the assembly had burned, and ash was present. He removed the bad insulation, vacuumed it out and restarted the unit. It made a horrible noise, and he spent a half an hour on the phone with the manufacturer tech support trying to diagnose the problem. The noise eventually went away and he finished the repair. Unfortunately the machine shut down again, after we got one lukewarm shower. I called on Sunday, and explained that I was no longer comfortable with the unit being in our house and I wanted a replacement, of a different maker. Without hesitation they agreed, and Monday morning, after acquiring a new model of a different make from their supplier, we got the replacement installed, at no additional cost. These problems are rare, and not the fault of the installer. However, I could not have asked for a more timely and considerate treatment as a valued customer of this business.
