We participated in the star of Honolulu cruise event on Friday because we could see the fireworks at the Hilton Hotel. The tableware on the ship was not bad. The atmosphere on the ship was very good. There were music and dance performances. After boarding the ship, there was a welcome drink, as well as some self-service cheese cookies and fruits. Our dinner included lobster and steak, as well as two drinks. The only drawback is that the bartender's cocktail was very poor. It was just overly sweet and had a very weak alcohol flavor. I had a great time on the sunset cruise. First, it's a big boat, four levels, and has an elevator. All are a plus to me because I don't do little boats. The food is really good. You get a salad, whole lobster, steak, cheese and fruit, free glass of nonalcoholic champagne, dessert and two drink tickets. I would have preferred to receive just the lobster tail instead of having to crack open my own lobster. Tables are a little too close together. It's a beautiful boat and you get really nice views. During dinner we were entertained by several musicians and singers but the highlight were the Polynesian dancers! Superb! Overall, I had a great time. read more

Hubby and I recently had the pleasure of experiencing a dinner cruise with Star, and it was an absolutely delightful evening! From the moment we boarded the boat, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The staff greeted us with friendly smiles, 2 drink tickets each and a complimentary champagne toast, setting the tone for a wonderful night ahead. The views from the water were breathtaking. The dinner service was impressive but the menu, needs some work. Dinner included a small charcuterie board, a small salad, lobster on a salad, filet with mashed potatoes and veggies and a small dessert. I was disappointed that the lobster only came with 1 claw and a half tail. We pay more than enough to receive a full lobster tail (which is included in the cheaper 3 course package btw), so that was unfortunate. The filet and mash came out room temperature instead of hot, so the mash was pretty hard. Also, I could tell the charcuterie board had been sitting out for a while because it was very warm and the prosciutto was dry. Besides dinner, the service throughout the evening was impeccable! The staff was very warm and friendly. One of my favorite aspects of the cruise was the live music. A talented musician played jazz softly in the background, adding to the ambiance without overpowering conversation. It truly enhanced the overall experience. There was a singer that sang 1 song at the beginning of the sail and 1 song before we departed. More songs from the singer would've been great. The dinner cruise is highly recommended for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion or simply wanting a relaxing evening on the water. I would love to do it again but for $200pp, they need to improve the meals or have an option to just come, sit and drink without the dinner option. That would be fun! read more

Three star experience at a five star price. I bought two tickets for about $450 and was told we would be sitting in a large dining room at a large table. This was my second voyage on the Star of Honolulu, and I knew what to expect...we'll, I thought I knew. The Room: I was very, very disappointed that my date and I were placed in a small, overflow room on the second deck. In the middle of the room is a large wall. During the show, the entertainers did their best to dance around this huge blockade, but we missed at least 25% of the show. So, so disappointing and frustrating. The Service: there was at least 100 people in this room, and we only had 3 servers. Although these three worked their hearts out, they were very much overwhelmed by the amount of people they had to serve. Plates would stack up on the tables from course to course and cocktail service was nearly nonexistent. The Food: We found the appetizers rather weak: cheese, crackers, and fruit. No breads or cold cuts were served: however, on each table, there was two, small pieces of bread for each guest. Upon initial seating, there was an appetizing salad waiting at the table. The lobsters were good...no complaints. Our steaks were served cold, but they were tender and flavorful. Dessert was good. Entertainment: Entertainment was excellent; however, as mentioned before, the enormous wall in the middle of the room obstructed EVERYONE'S view of the show. It had to be frustrating for the entertainers, as well. Bottom Line: Will i go back? No. Would I recommend someone to go? No. Personally, I wish I was told when I bought the tickets two months earlier that the premium tickets were sold out. I feel like the Star of Honolulu has lost it's luster and lost my trust. read more

We booked a five-star dinner cruise on a Friday in November. Fridays are extra special because you can enjoy fireworks from the boat, which made the experience even better. There were many people celebrating special occasions like weddings or birthdays. It was a bit chilly inside the boat, so I'd recommend bringing a jacket or shawl. The service was excellent. When one of my friends got seasick, the server kindly brought them some ginger ale. The boat rocked more than I expected, so if you're prone to seasickness, I'd suggest taking motion sickness medicine beforehand. We had an amazing time sitting in the premium section of the Friday night fireworks cruise!! The service was attentive and fast. The crew were very friendly. The food was amazing! The ship pulled up front row for the fireworks show. The dining experience was wonderful with charcuterie plates, LOBSTER salad, filet mignon that melted in my mouth and truffle mashed potatoes. Great views and great performances. You do get what you pay for, the basic buffet is what my other half had surprised me with for our anniversary and I could honestly say it was good! The sun was shining at sunset hour and it was beautiful. The food on the other hand was okay which is why I rate it a 4/5 stars. Our steak knives were dull and I had the hardest time cutting my prime rib as the prime rib in my opinion was a little underdone. I did enjoy myself of their fresh greens and tomato salad. I would've loved if they offered mixed fruits on the menu because our dessert was just coconut and matcha cake slices. Other than that, all of the crews and captains offered great service so I couldn't be too disappointed plus their Mai Tai's were so good! Embarked on a wonderful sunset dinner cruise on our final day in Honolulu! I called last minute to book the cruise and there was still availability (on a Tuesday). There were multiple dining options, we went with the buffet dinner and upgraded to a private table, which came with a framed picture souvenir. The photo was beautiful! We arrived 45 minutes prior to departure and parked at pier 5/6, which cost about $21 for the duration of the cruise. Once we were on board, we were sat and greeted with a mai tai (non-alcoholic available, too!). Just after 5:30, the ship set sail and we were able to enjoy the dinner buffet shortly afterwards. Not the most amazing food, but it was good and we weren't there for the food regardless. It was all about the spectacular views...and spectacular they were!!! The one thing I will say is that you have to make a choice to watch the sunset, or the live music and hula show inside, but we opted for the sunset and it was absolutely stunning! I'm sure you can do a little of both, but it's a lot of back and forth. Overall, I recommend this excursion. It was a little pricey, but you get to see unmatched views of the Honolulu sky/shoreline, as well as the beautiful sunsets this island has to offer and a great romantic date night! read more

We were told this would be a once in a life experience with fillet minions, a private table, and an amazing entertainment. (SCAM) they stuff as many people possible on the boat. Initially the windows are open so you can breathe, but then they shut them and it gets hot. Uncomfortable!!!! 1. The appetizers are hot cheese and stale bread. 2. The chicken looked days old (please see pictures below) the steak was not a fillet minion and incredibly cheap. It was so raw we couldn't bit into it. The vegetables were like frozen veggies from Walmart with 0 seasoning. They give you a whole lobster that was impossible for people to open! You think with the amount you pay it would be better. We had a great romantic evening on the "Star of Honolulu". Champagne was given to us as soon as we sat down. Offered us to the self-bar that included varieties of cheese with crackers, fruits, and salad. We started sailing out to the ocean and enjoying the live music on board, while still drinking our champagne. I just went in September. There were roaches coming out of the side of the wood panels. The waiter saw this and saw the roach that my husband killed with a watermelon slice and moved us after it happened again while he was talking to us. The company refused to refund our money completely, they gave us partial refund because " We still enjoyed the deck and services" we couldn't go anywhere!!! Apparently, it's 3 hours on Fridays and it concludes with fireworks right before you return. Once we checked in, we were given these tacky stickers to put on our clothes, which I guess made it easy for the staff to direct the customers efficiently and quickly. We were sat on the 4th floor of the boat, which felt like a nice enough restaurant. However, the space did feel a bit cramped and I wish we had more space between the tables as you can hear everything your neighbors are saying. It was like one big family dinner... Our server was kind, warm, and attentive. The drinks were solid--we got a total of 4 drink tickets that were part of the package and anything more than that you had to pay extra. The food was okay/mediocre. For the price they charged, I expected something of better quality. The appetizer was a little charcuterie board, followed by a lobster salad, with a steak and mashed potatoes as the main, and a custard for dessert. The steak was overcooked/dry. While we enjoyed our meal, there was live music being played. The entertainment was solid. The views from the boat were fantastic though I wish there were more outside seating on the deck. Overall it was an okay experience. Nothing spectacular but not horrible either. It felt a bit overpriced for what you get. Over all good experience especially on Fridays as you will be able to see the fireworks show in Waikiki. On good days can see the sunset and moon. Lots of parking, pay by the hour, close to Aloha tower or a just drive a little bit further down the dock. Staff are very friendly and the food was good, we got the buffet with your typical style with prime ribs, chicken, fish, etc. There's short entertainment after the dinner with dances from different parts of Polynesia and liver music. What went well - Rose. We paid for a certain tier and were told closer to the reservation it wasn't available and asked if we wanted to switch. We arrived to nice greeting by dancers and music and staff greeting us for our arrival. We were then taken to our table which was in probably the smallest room on the ship and was truly disappointing. You couldn't even see outside the windows because they were so dirty. The initial salad was nothing to speak about. Cheese and crackers and fruit were warm. Then the lobster came out. Well that was the beginning of the end of that. We were told only one cracker per table so you had to wait for the other diner to crack their lobster shell to begin breaking yours. Then upon getting what you could open. It was way way overcooked and dirty and inedible. This wasn't what we paid for so my boyfriend went to speak with a manager and were luckily put in touch with Rose. Well thank you Rose. You put us on the floor we should have been eating at with a view, amazingly fresh, cold and delicious cheese/crackers/fruit/etc. sorbet. Then followed by an absolutely Devine piece of prime tenderloin and truffle potatoes. Then a sweet cheesecake and fruit accompanied by live piano, singing by an amazing vocalist and jazz musicians. I couldn't have enjoyed the meal better. Unfortunately the fireworks were cancelled due to wind so we missed out on that. Overall, If you're not on the top level I wouldn't attend this cruise because each level appeared worse on the way down on every single aspect. - food - ambiance - entertainment- even place settings. We were lucky to end up where we should have originally been but you don't know what you don't know. Who would think you could be out in a tiny room with a single guitarist with small tables and one cracker and no view on a dinner cruise. I am grateful for Rose and all her help and recommend her for any dinner cruise and management position around but I probably wouldn't recommend this dinner cruise to anyone coming to Oahu. read more

This company offers pick up and drop off for its patrons. There was a representative there to greet and give name tags & drink tickets. Boarding of the bus was on time and the driver was lively and a cautious driver. The bus was a coach bus, clean and had televisions for a brief video in English & Japanese prior to departure. Care is given to ensure the location where patrons will debark is curbside and assistance crossing the street. You'll be informed what level you'll dine on when you get there. It was a beautiful sunny day and our server Elisha was knowledgeable, accommodating and performed with everyone at the end. Every Friday has fire work. So I choose Friday. I wanted make reservations 5course but it was fully booked so I choose 3course star. It included pictures. If you would like to seat window there's an extra cost. I took window seat. But I wouldn't recommend window seat anyway go to out side for watching view. Our family booked the top floor, best dinner cruise because it was grandma's dream Hawaii vacation activity. She had a great time. My review is mostly to warm people with food allergies to eat first. We called before booking dinner, called ahead the day of the dinner, and they still served me foods not safe for me to eat. I had confidence after phone calls, so I went to dinner hungry and wanting to eat dinner. I was able to eat the salad course and little else and stayed hungry. Drinks were also an issue. 10/10 go on Friday night best show ever! I booked the Deluxe Three Star Sunset Dinner Cruise. There is a parking lot available. I suggest to get there early as it fills up quickly. You will have to pay to park when leaving. You might can find street parking. I didn't look for it due to the time I go there the boat was loading up. After you park you will be checked in and head aboard the ship. There are greeters there to great you and they will be singing as well. Once on board you tell the directors your package and they will tell you where to go. When we got to our floor a server escorted us to our seats. Then a waiter came and he was our waiter throughout the night. You just let him know when you were ready for the next meal and he brought it out. We only had to get our own appetizers. The bathroom was surprisingly super clean for a ship. We ate, drank, talked, took pictures, watched the sunset and a photographer will come take your photo as well. Then just before dessert performers came out and put on a show. Next after the show you will see the fireworks. When the fireworks are complete you will be back to dock. The food and drink were good. We were a group of four, and we were looking at something we could all do together. We decided to book a sunset sail on a Sunday evening. We were surprised with how big the boat was! We were expecting a catamaran that maybe held 50 to 60 people. The boat is huge! Boarding was super efficient and there were hula dancers to entertain the guests as they waited to board. The boat has multiple levels. Plus on each level they have it partitioned off so there are separate buffet stations and entertainers on each side of a wall. We were taken to a nice table right near the water. The staff was super friendly, and someone came by with Mai Tais about a minute after we were seated. (You get one complementary mai tai as you sail, and then it is a cash bar.) The dinner is buffet style featuring a prime rib carving station. I wasn't too impressed with the food honestly. The salad and the noodles were the best part I thought. They also had some fish in a coconut, curry sauce, chicken pieces, noodles, macaroni salad, and rice. The prime rib was just OK. They allow you to go up as many times as you want so after I decided what I liked and what I didn't like I went up and got a little bit more food. They also had some desserts that included a macadamia nut brownie, a coconut cake, and a green tea tiramisu. The brownies and the coconut cake were good. I did not care for the tiramisu. (And neither did anyone else in my party.) The best things about the ship were the amazing sunset views and the entertainment. There was a Hawaiian girl who served as an emcee/Dj. She got everybody singing along to Hawaiian classics and all the usual party songs like YMCA. The dancers were also amazing. There were male and female dancers and they must've changed costumes three or four times each. Plus they danced on each side of the room; so everybody had a great view. The dancers got volunteers up to learn to hula dance and they also had everybody sing happy birthday to the folks who were celebrating. The emcee made sure to try and get everyone involved; plus she played the ukulele and had a beautiful voice. The sunset views were spectacular. The crew rolled up the plastic sheeting windows so that we could get great photos. Even after the sun set we had some great views of the skyline of Waikiki. Getting off the ship was just as smooth as boarding. Overall; the Star of Honolulu is a great way to see a beautiful Honolulu sunset. It is very organized and a pleasant experience with a caring and knowledgeable crew.. It was a fun outing for people of any age. I would especially recommend this boat for people in a group celebrating a birthday or other special occasion. read more

We left late because the charter bus they provided took longer to arrive due to traffic, which contributed to my disappointment. I only saw the sunset for about three minutes, which was frustrating after spending so much money. The seating is what you pay for, the views are incredible, the show is fantastic, but the food is to lacking, especially for the price. We had chosen the steak and lobster (luckily we got a few discounts but not enough in my eyes). The seating was the third floor so you can see the fireworks a bit higher and there aren't that many tables and seats on top. The food starts out with cheese and crackers and two fruits (that's the first course), a salad at the table, lobster (messy, small, and watery), steak (not tender and not tasty, mango mousse (didn't care for it at all). However I knew I wasn't going on board for the food so if that's yoir mindset you're good. a few hours of ocean relaxation made up for the food! staff works very hard and are friendly. DO NOT BOOK!!!! My husband and I booked the Three Star Deluxe Sunset Dinner & Show on Friday this week. We were very disappointed by the experience, service, and food. When we first arrived, we were given 2 free alcoholic drink tickets each. When we were seated at the very beginning, we were sat right next to another party of 2 and we were shoulder to shoulder with the couple next to us. The table seemed as if we were a party of 4 instead of 2. I had a purse with me and asked the waiter if he had a purse hook or if there was a chair I could put my purse on. He told me there was no place for my purse and I would have to hold it. The tables were small and I had to physically hold my purse in my lap so it would not fall onto the floor the entire dinner. The entire dinner was very disorganized and we had no direction on the appetizers (cheese and crackers). The website and confirmation email stated the dinner was 2 hours, however we were stuck on the boat for 3 hours!  In the description of the dinner we booked, we were told there would be complimentary champagne, however, as we were sitting down, the couple next to us asked about the champagne. The waiter then stated the "champagne" was nonalcoholic sparkling apple juice.  The tables were small and packed and as our waiter was refilling our "champagne glass" he knocked over multiple items on our table and picked it up and placed the dirty items back onto our table. When the waiter went to refill the drinks at the table next to us, he also knocked down multiple items and the food and items that fell onto the floor, fell directly on my light-colored shoes. The waiter then walked away and the couple next to us had to pick up the items off my foot and the floor.  The waiter took 35 minutes to come over to us and ask what drink we wanted to order, although I waved him down a few times as we were ready to order a drink. When the waiter came over he stood over my husband and I and said "sorry for the wait" and just stood there. We were confused if he was actually taking our drink order or something else since he did not specify. My husband asked " is this to order our drinks" and the waiter just stood there in silence. The entire experience was awkward.  We read on the menu "water is served upon request", when asking the waiter for water he pointed to the corner of the room. There was a water jug with water and small 4-ounce water cups. The waiter did not have any larger cups for the water and every time we wanted a refill, we would have to get up out of our seats and walk over to the water jug.  When the first entree was served (lobster), we were disappointed in the quality of the food. Additionally, I asked the server for an extra seafood cracker when he served the food and he did not reply and simply walked away.  The lobster was served cold and the lobster tail was covered in tomalley (liver/pancreas). I have eaten lobster several times in my life, as I grew up along the coast and I have never seen a lobster absolutely covered in tomalley. The lobster tail is supposed to have an opaque white color. The rest of the lobster had a grayish color and did not smell good. I ate a small amount and the lobster tasted as if it went bad. My husband had the same experience with his lobster so both the lobsters were left uneaten. We attempted to let the waiter know but he only stated " so sorry about that" and walked away. When the second entre was served (steak), the meat came out lukewarm and had a weird aftertaste. The steak did not taste fresh and my husband tried his steak as well and had the same experience. Neither of us ate the lobster or the steak due to the odd taste. It tasted as if both the lobster and steak had passed their expiration date.  I asked the waiter after over 25 minutes from ordering our drinks which we ordered a Pinot Noir and a Budweiser if our drinks were ready. He nodded his head and walked away. 10 more minutes went by and then I flagged down the same waiter and asked him if the drinks were along the bar counter and he said " we have to clear drinks from tables first before we serve new ones" and walked away. I was left confused since we had not even received any drinks yet so I was unsure what drinks he was "clearing". After 50 minutes of waiting for our drinks, I asked a third time and he nodded again and shuffled away quickly. The waiter came over after 50 MINUTES of waiting and handed us our drinks and quickly left our table. It took the server 50 minutes from the time our drink order was put in, to hand us two drinks that are poured out of bottles! We received our drinks after the first entree was served! I had a sip of my Pinot Noir which was completely room temperature. The glass was not even cold and there was no condensation on the glass. I booked reservations online for Friday evening, which included an extended hour for the fireworks show. The show is only available on Fridays. They offer 3 different meal options, and you are assigned the deck number based on selection. :: Signature - includes 5 course dinner with Prime Tenderloin of beef and Nova Scotia Maine Lobster. Cheese and charcuterie board at tableside. Private table on deck #4. Live jazz entertainment. Dessert and 2 premium beverages included. :: Deluxe - Imported cheese and fruit. Tenderloin of Beef with Sweet Madeira Wine Sauce and 1lb of Nova Scotia Maine Lobster. Dessert and 2 premium beverages included. Hawaiian music and jazz. :: Casual - 3 course crab, steak, and chicken dinner. One signature mai tai. Dessert included. Hawaiian music and dancers. Audience participation and various activities. :: Buffet - Alaea Salt Crusted USDA Prime Roast Beef, Fish of the Day with Coconut Curry and Baked Misoyaki BBQ chicken. Served with various salads, fried noodles, and steamed rice. Dessert bar with fresh seasonal tropical fruit. Signature mai tai. Hawaiian music and Polynesian show. Each of the packages can be upgraded with add-ons such as round trip transportation, photo options, etc. We thought the buffet dinner was nothing to rave about it. The entertainment was subpar and dragged for 2 hours. The sunset views were stunning. The fireworks show was decent. It was a bit scary when all passengers gathered on one side of the ship to watch the show. The ship was leaning too close to the water if you were on the first 2 decks. This was a one-time experience. We probably won't book this again! read more

Whale watching review. January starts the whale watching season that runs until April. The Star of Honolulu is located at Alaina Tower. Paid parking is available which on average will cost about 20 dollars for the length of the tour. Book your tickets online. Check in at a small table just outside the boat. Once you board you take a commemorative picture (which you can purchase later) and then sit in the lower deck as you set sail. Staff are friendly and provide a lot of great info about the whales and environment. The boat is fairly large with 4 decks available for viewing. The top deck is the best but it does get hot with the sun. If you get sea sick, staff even offer ginger tablets to help ease the feeling. Seeing the whales was amazing. Truly something to see in your lifetime. There's tons of great photo opportunities with the whales and the Waikiki/ Diamond Head background. They even guarantee a whale sighting or else you get a free voucher for a second visit. Great experience with the family. Awesome whale sightings. read more

Booked a surprise birthday dinner with Star of Honolulu. It was my first dinner cruise experience in Honolulu. I would say we scored a good value for the package we paid for. We booked the "Casual Dinner Experience" which is described on their website as "Dine in casual elegance with Aloha on our Star Sunset Dinner & Show Cruise. Enjoy a delicious Signature Mai Tai, succulent 3-course crab, steak and BBQ chicken dinner, our festive "65 Years of Aloha" show and breathtaking views of the sunset and Waikiki coastline!" I will add that we enjoyed our dinner thoroughly -- even the salad was delicious. We made friends at our table and so the 6 of us partied the night away. The dancing and show were very entertaining and all of us could feel the love in the room for Polynesian dance and culture. Everyone had a great time. Before I forget, shout out to Naia who was an absolute sweetheart taking care of our table for the evening. We left her a very nice tip because of it. Good service changes the whole experience especially since it was our first time on a dinner cruise in Hawaii. These guys run the largest Hawaii dinner cruise vessel which can hold up to 1,500 passengers -- that gives you an idea of how big and spacious the boat is. Oh, and for my friends that are skeptical about taking this dinner cruise because of motion sickness -- the boat is big so you won't feel a thing. If you haven't checked these guys out, I would definitely book this for a sweet treat (views are amazing). If you book a cruise for a Friday evening, you also get to watch fireworks that are put on from one of the hotels off the Waikiki strip. read more

We went with the Pacific Star package, Buffet Dining and Tropical Fun. Dinner was really good, Prime Rib (so tender) delicious fish and chicken, lots of salads, even Vegan options. A Polynesian show and Hula lessons. It is a sunset cruise that was just fantastic. read more

My husband and I had a wonderful time here. The Star of Honolulu is on Pier 8 at the Aloha Tower and a parking lot across the street was about ~$21 during our cruise. We were greeted upon arrival and were escorted to our dining table shared by other patrons but still space between us and those strangers. Every table is assigned a server and we had Frank. He was on top of it bringing our bread, salad and drinks from the start. Our main entree was delicious too, which included crab legs, BBQ chicken, beef tenderloin, mashed potatoes and veggies. We ordered 3 more alcoholic drinks and they are $10 each. There's a professional photographer that took each group's photo and it's $30 if you want a take home souvenir of it. The servers are the performers here too which they danced traditional and cultural dances from different islands and had a big dance party at the end of the show. The boat itself is huge and lots of space to take sunset pics. I read that it has 3 stabilizers so it wasn't shaky at all. It does get chilly inside because of the AC and outside was super windy so I recommend a light jacket. Overall, it was a fun time! read more
