Hubby and I recently had the pleasure of experiencing a dinner cruise with Star, and it was an absolutely delightful evening! From the moment we boarded the boat, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The staff greeted us with friendly smiles, 2 drink tickets each and a complimentary champagne toast, setting the tone for a wonderful night ahead. The views from the water were breathtaking. The dinner service was impressive but the menu, needs some work. Dinner included a small charcuterie board, a small salad, lobster on a salad, filet with mashed potatoes and veggies and a small dessert. I was disappointed that the lobster only came with 1 claw and a half tail. We pay more than enough to receive a full lobster tail (which is included in the cheaper 3 course package btw), so that was unfortunate. The filet and mash came out room temperature instead of hot, so the mash was pretty hard. Also, I could tell the charcuterie board had been sitting out for a while because it was very warm and the prosciutto was dry. Besides dinner, the service throughout the evening was impeccable! The staff was very warm and friendly. One of my favorite aspects of the cruise was the live music. A talented musician played jazz softly in the background, adding to the ambiance without overpowering conversation. It truly enhanced the overall experience. There was a singer that sang 1 song at the beginning of the sail and 1 song before we departed. More songs from the singer would've been great. The dinner cruise is highly recommended for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion or simply wanting a relaxing evening on the water. I would love to do it again but for $200pp, they need to improve the meals or have an option to just come, sit and drink without the dinner option. That would be fun!

My husband and I frequent the cruises of the star of Honolulu during 4th of July and New Year's Eve. We also have gone on the whale watching cruise. We love taking others with us. This experience is nice for a couple or for a big group. This is amazing for locals and for tourists. I enjoy the entertainment, food, music, and drinks. The servers are amazing. Last night we had Cole and our server. It was great and I'm so grateful this experience exists.

Wow! This cruise blew me away! We did the dinner cruise and saw the fireworks in a Friday night. Saw whales, the sunset, and waikiki! The food was so delicious, on board music was great. The service was so good from everyone! Truly loved this experience!

Three star experience at a five star price. I bought two tickets for about $450 and was told we would be sitting in a large dining room at a large table. This was my second voyage on the Star of Honolulu, and I knew what to expect...we'll, I thought I knew. The Room: I was very, very disappointed that my date and I were placed in a small, overflow room on the second deck. In the middle of the room is a large wall. During the show, the entertainers did their best to dance around this huge blockade, but we missed at least 25% of the show. So, so disappointing and frustrating. The Service: there was at least 100 people in this room, and we only had 3 servers. Although these three worked their hearts out, they were very much overwhelmed by the amount of people they had to serve. Plates would stack up on the tables from course to course and cocktail service was nearly nonexistent. The Food: We found the appetizers rather weak: cheese, crackers, and fruit. No breads or cold cuts were served: however, on each table, there was two, small pieces of bread for each guest. Upon initial seating, there was an appetizing salad waiting at the table. The lobsters were good...no complaints. Our steaks were served cold, but they were tender and flavorful. Dessert was good. Entertainment: Entertainment was excellent; however, as mentioned before, the enormous wall in the middle of the room obstructed EVERYONE'S view of the show. It had to be frustrating for the entertainers, as well. Bottom Line: Will i go back? No. Would I recommend someone to go? No. Personally, I wish I was told when I bought the tickets two months earlier that the premium tickets were sold out. I feel like the Star of Honolulu has lost it's luster and lost my trust.

We booked a five-star dinner cruise on a Friday in November. Fridays are extra special because you can enjoy fireworks from the boat, which made the experience even better. There were many people celebrating special occasions like weddings or birthdays. It was a bit chilly inside the boat, so I'd recommend bringing a jacket or shawl. The service was excellent. When one of my friends got seasick, the server kindly brought them some ginger ale. The boat rocked more than I expected, so if you're prone to seasickness, I'd suggest taking motion sickness medicine beforehand. The food was delicious, and we had a wonderful time enjoying the view, music, and overall atmosphere.

Very cool experience. If you decide to go, make sure and pay extra for the Nova room on top deck. Best view and service.

We had an amazing time sitting in the premium section of the Friday night fireworks cruise!! The service was attentive and fast. The crew were very friendly. The food was amazing! The ship pulled up front row for the fireworks show. The dining experience was wonderful with charcuterie plates, LOBSTER salad, filet mignon that melted in my mouth and truffle mashed potatoes. Cheesecake for dessert was divine and a dragonfruit amuse bouche. The bathrooms and ship were very well maintained and clean. Tip- tip your servers!!!

Great views and great performances. You do get what you pay for, the basic buffet is what my other half had surprised me with for our anniversary and I could honestly say it was good! The sun was shining at sunset hour and it was beautiful. The food on the other hand was okay which is why I rate it a 4/5 stars. Our steak knives were dull and I had the hardest time cutting my prime rib as the prime rib in my opinion was a little underdone. I did enjoy myself of their fresh greens and tomato salad. I would've loved if they offered mixed fruits on the menu because our dessert was just coconut and matcha cake slices. Other than that, all of the crews and captains offered great service so I couldn't be too disappointed plus their Mai Tai's were so good! I would love to come back and try the other Cruise selections.

The food isn't the main reason to be on board -- it's really about the view, the entertainment, and their genuine enthusiasm to make sure we have a great time. They do a wonderful job. I tried the buffet and truly enjoyed it. As a resident of Hawai'i, I see this as a fun option to share with visitors and help them have a memorable experience. The selection at the buffet is also quite good.

Embarked on a wonderful sunset dinner cruise on our final day in Honolulu! I called last minute to book the cruise and there was still availability (on a Tuesday). There were multiple dining options, we went with the buffet dinner and upgraded to a private table, which came with a framed picture souvenir. The photo was beautiful! We arrived 45 minutes prior to departure and parked at pier 5/6, which cost about $21 for the duration of the cruise. Once we were on board, we were sat and greeted with a mai tai (non-alcoholic available, too!). Just after 5:30, the ship set sail and we were able to enjoy the dinner buffet shortly afterwards. Not the most amazing food, but it was good and we weren't there for the food regardless. It was all about the spectacular views...and spectacular they were!!! The one thing I will say is that you have to make a choice to watch the sunset, or the live music and hula show inside, but we opted for the sunset and it was absolutely stunning! I'm sure you can do a little of both, but it's a lot of back and forth. Overall, I recommend this excursion. It was a little pricey, but you get to see unmatched views of the Honolulu sky/shoreline, as well as the beautiful sunsets this island has to offer and a great romantic date night!

0 STARS!!! DONT BOOK!!! My best friend and I wanted one final goodbye as she was moving across country. We went all out and paid $648.14 for one of the worse experience we ever had. We were told this would be a once in a life experience with fillet minions, a private table, and an amazing entertainment. (SCAM) they stuff as many people possible on the boat. Initially the windows are open so you can breathe, but then they shut them and it gets hot. Uncomfortable!!!! 1. The appetizers are hot cheese and stale bread. 2. The chicken looked days old (please see pictures below) the steak was not a fillet minion and incredibly cheap. It was so raw we couldn't bit into it. The vegetables were like frozen veggies from Walmart with 0 seasoning. They give you a whole lobster that was impossible for people to open! You think with the amount you pay it would be better. Again see all the pics below! 3. The drinks had no description and were hot and horrible 4. Our food was so terrible we sent the steak back and it came back After dessert was being served. We barely ate because the experience was horrible and by the time we got out food everyone was done. It was also like a joke to them since it came back overdone. (Comical) 5. Our sever never came back for our second drink. She was one of the dancers so that was not helpful. The only good thing is paying EXTRA for a picture. Also, just save your money and time. The star of Honolulu and the hotels that are tricking tourist are not on the same page. I called nicely to explain our experience and they kept blaming each other! So here I am $648 short with one of one worse experiences ever as my last memory.

    Incident with the roach
    LUPE V.

I just went in September. There were roaches coming out of the side of the wood panels. The waiter saw this and saw the roach that my husband killed with a watermelon slice and moved us after it happened again while he was talking to us. The company refused to refund our money completely, they gave us partial refund because " We still enjoyed the deck and services" we couldn't go anywhere!!! Save your money and experience something better. Absolutely disgusting . PS I don't have pictures of the roach because the waiter took the watermelon slice from our hand but I have the communication with the tour company right after. I Finally had service and we left the cruise.

Being the first boat out in the morning makes a huge difference. The ocean was calm, conditions were excellent, and we weren't surrounded by multiple tour boats. For long stretches it genuinely felt like we had the reef to ourselves. Sam and Ella were in-cred-ible. Professional, knowledgeable, and very clearly people who love what they do. They struck the perfect balance of being attentive while still letting everyone enjoy the experience naturally. We felt extremely safe the entire time, and they were just genuinely joyful humans to spend the morning with. And I have to mention the turtles. We saw at least eight. Not just in the distance-- they were everywhere. Below us in the reef, gliding past us at the surface, popping up for air unexpectedly. At one point we were actively looking around just to make sure we weren't about to bump into one. Also...calling them "little" would be inaccurate. Some of these turtles were big-- absolutely stunning animals. Swimming alongside them, surrounded by hundreds of reef fish, was one of those rare travel moments that sticks with you. A core memory, without question. -- San Diego

Service 5: Super nice and friendly staff, all the way from the reception team to the photographer, the servers, the bartender, the chef and the captain. Ambiance 5: The enthusiasm of the staff rubs off on the guests. It is a happy gathering with breathtaking views. We took the Friday night dinner-cruise which lasted longer (and was more costly) so that we could enjoy the Hilton Hawaiian Village fireworks. The ship 3: The Prince Kuhio was first commissioned in 1984 as a passenger ferry. In 2020, she became part of the Prince Kuhio Tours family and was converted for use in scenic dining cruises. It can accommodate up to 138 passengers with plenty of outdoor and indoor space for dining, cocktails, and sightseeing. The upper, open deck where we sat, has 2 person and 4 person tables with all bench seats facing forward. The set up is optimized for sightseeing which is great. Viewing-wise, every seat is a good seat. Accommodation-wise, the setup is simple and not really fine-dining; hard seats with no cushioning, no tablecloths or cloth napkins, no metal silverware and no glassware. There is a bar facing the dining tables which at the time of our visit in August 2025 only served soft drinks and non-alcoholic mixers. For some undisclosed reason no alcohol was being sold on board but guests were encouraged to bring their own, which we did! Not sure if this is a long-term situation or temporary. The alcohol situation is not clearly stated on their website so if you plan to be drinking you might want to inquire ahead of time whether you should bring your own. The lower deck is enclosed and views are limited compared to the upper deck. The admission price for the lower deck is a little less ($115 vs. $132 at the time of our visit). The restrooms are aft on the lower deck. Again pretty basic. Boarding and seating 3: We got there plenty of time ahead of the scheduled boarding but there was already a long line outside. There was very little supervision. The line was disorganized and people were cutting in and jumping the line. We were greeted cheerfully at the entrance, checked in, and photographed for a separately-sold souvenir photo. Although we had paid for upper deck seating as a family of four, by the time we got there all tables were taken. Again there was no supervision by the staff and it was kind of a "free for all". We had to personally negotiate with the other guests (who had spread out over multiple tables) to secure a 4-seat table. This was a little chaotic and unexpected. Food 4: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner have different menus. We had taken the Sunset Dinner Cruise. Dinner included a garden salad, an entrée and a dessert (cheesecake). For the entrée, you are limited to Fish (Catch of the Day) or Beef Short Ribs. We all had the fish and it was delicious and nicely plated. Given the amount of people that they feed in as short as a time, I do not know how they do it but it came out really well. We met the chef who was going around and meeting the guests after the dinner was served, and he told us that everything is done fresh and on premises in real time. Hats off to the chef and the staff! Drinks 3: As mentioned earlier, they only served soft drinks and mixers at the time of our visit in August 2025. No alcohol was sold on board but patrons were encouraged to bring their own. Suggest you check ahead of time with Prince Kuhio Tours whether this is still the situation. The Last Word 4: The breathtaking views, the friendly crew and the delicious (albeit limited in options) food offerings elevate this experience to a solid 4. I wish they could do better with the boarding process and the seating arrangements. Overall a great experience!
