I want to start by saying these folks are really nice & it's probably a great salon for most people. The atmosphere is very relaxing inside. However, I went here a few weeks ago for a dip manicure and specifically told the manicurist that I am severely allergic to gel polish and that I get contact dermatitis every time it touches my skin. When I go to other salons and tell them this they make sure to do a purely dip manicure with the special dip manicure top coat that requires no UV light at all. Even after telling them this they proceeded to put gel top coat on my dip manicure! It was too late and I left knowing I would break out shortly. The next day I called them and told them the situation and asked if I could get them removed. They said they could do a full removal or just remove the top coat & put a different top coat on (I would think the dip specific top coat) so I go with this. I go in the next day and they remove the gel top coat just to put regular top coat on, for regular polish which this is not! I don't have a picture but they looked pretty bad at this point, very dull and scratched up. I went home and redid the polish as you can see in the pics (I'm not an expert don't judge) in hopes to get some shine back. I inevitably had to rip them off a week later because the irritation never stopped. Now I'm left with dry cracked hands for at least a month. If you have a gel allergy and specifically get dip for this reason do not go here. I would love to get my $80 back. I will not be getting my nails done again I am traumatized by this experience.

Lee is absolutely so amazing, sweet and detail oriented when it comes to waxing! I had found this place by last minute and called if they could fit me in for a Brazilian and eyebrow wax. highly recommend this nail salon! Annie usually takes care of my nails and she does such a good quality job. One time I came in during my 1hr lunch and she got me in and out in like 45mins. and that's with a shellac color change. All the nail technicians take good care of you here. Shame shame on you for selling me the cheapest lashes ever. It's heartbreaking because I've been coming to you for so many years and you sold me a low quality lash at a premium price. I hope that the money that you took from me was enough to pay the bills for the slow season it's so unfortunate that you treated me this way even after I called to resolve the issue for you didn't help me out. You wanted to charge me $60 more on top of the 140 that I had already paid. Not cool at all. Thanks I got to tear my natural lashes off to which was very painful. Mimosas, red and white wine options! I've actually never left a review before for a single business EVER, but this salon I cannot take for granted, for the level of dedication and care for its customers. I honestly hope to stay living in the area so that I don't have to switch nail salons. They have the spa quality capacity for every kind of occasion (bridal shower, baby shower, etc.) on a group scale, yet they still provide such qualitative, individualized attention that I continue to appreciate. I paid $100 for a manicure -- I really did find it beautiful but after only a few days, all the gems fell off. This is a really expensive manicure for everything to fall apart so quickly. They also told me it costs $10 extra for a base under french tip, which I've never seen before in my many years getting manicures. I declined and then as the pedicure continued they encouraged me to do it anyways. I do feel like this place is really... after your money. I was visiting, and live in a major city, which I tend to get cheaper services with better quality. This was good service, the ladies were nice, but I can't believe I spent $155 + $25 tip for a gel pedicure french tip and a gel manicure french tip with diamonds that fell off instantly. read more

Terrible! Such a waste of money. Went to get a full set & walked out with this hot mess! All nails were different lengths and shapes. You can also tell that not enough polish was used. I had the lady fix the shapes and after she kept going shorter and it got worse, I told her I had somewhere to be. So if you look at the pricing a full gel set starts at $35 and up. I was charged $55 for this she said my nails are long! First of all, they are very short, they are all different shapes and lengths, you cut me and this is absurd. I had to leave so after she started arguing, I paid and left. I called later and the man was very rude on the phone and said since he didn't do my nails he can't help me. Then the lady who actually did this shit got On the phone super rude and argumentative. I wouldn't recommend this place at all! Very unprofessional, overcharge people, and shit quality work! Great choices for polish and a nice salon, but for the price...I've had much better. A regular mani/pedi ran me $65. That was just the spa pedi and regular polish, the girl doing my hands while in the pedicure chair. Props for being the only salon opened on a Sunday after 5pm. But quality lacks for the price. read more

Rude staff with zero social skills and mediocre abilities. I scheduled an appointment with the male manicurist there as he slays some acrylics even though he has the bedside manner of a soap dish. When I came a woman made me wait 15 minutes and told me would be doing my nails instead of the guy who didn't even show up. She didn't paint the top on my nail and when I asked her to go over again she was super rude and called me difficult. 1 week later and the nailS have peeled where she didn't get the top. She charged me $15 extra for shellac that peeled. They do not have a price board and shout out prices as they go. $77 for a fill with shellac? And it's was only $60 for the FULL SET Ombré? Nah. Let's put them out of business, they are disrespectful and don't belong in this neighborhood. read more

This place is amazing and surprisingly cheap compared to the east side of WA. I had a natural matte in the coffin shape. I FEEL LIKE A BADDIE! My nail tech, Tri was very friendly and had great convos with him. I'd visit for new nails again when I'm back in Seattle! read more

Highly, highly recommend this nail salon! The owners are a very sweet couple and I really enjoy chatting with both of them while getting my nails done. They're both so kind and their energy is so refreshing! I've been to and have frequented many nail salons and the wife who owns this shop is one of the best I've had at shaping! She's so detailed oriented with her shaping and she really takes her time to ensure each nail looks good. She did my entire set in the photos I uploaded and I am so happy with the result! The marbling and gold came out so good. This nail salon is definitely a southend gem and weekdays are not busy so you won't have to wait too long! My nails always look amazing when I get them done at Star Nails!! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the wait is usually a while. But other than that, I'd highly recommend them! It's taken a long time but I am thrilled with the results we've achieved together. I first learned about this clinic after extensive personal research, collecting recommendations and consulting with other respected electrolysis practitioners around Seattle. The office was a little further away from my home than others but choosing the most-highly-regarded professional around was my biggest deciding factor. (Not having to pay to park in a garage didn't hurt either!) The owner, Laura, was incredibly patient with me. My prior experience with electrolysis had not gone well (having received many hours of ineffective treatment at a different practitioner in Seattle, before I knew what to avoid) leaving me in a very skeptical and questioning position during my first visits. We talked at length about the differentiators between her practice and what I had previously experienced, putting me in a much more positive and relieved mindset as we got into my first treatments. I immediately recognized the difference and, after a short time, began seeing real evidence of the permanent hair removal I'd been hoping for. As time went on and we addressed hair in different areas, I was relieved to know that the team had access to a variety of electrolysis equipment and modalities to find just the right balance between treatment effectiveness and manageable discomfort. Getting insurance to cover electrolysis is a real pain, but Laura is a pro. She has been terrific at providing the timely and accurate preauthorization documentation and monthly super-bills I needed to get started, even as my insurance provider changed. Even after my provider arbitrarily began denying claims, Laura had my back with material support and additional documentation that was essential to completing my appeal. Eventually the insurance company relented and started paying out claims. I couldn't have done this without Laura's help. In addition to Laura, I've also had the opportunity to work with 3 other practitioners in the clinic over the last few years. Though each of them maintain their own unique treatment styles and methods, they all share a common commitment to treating clients with the kindness, dignity and care I'd come to expect. They're all lovely human beings and I tremendously appreciate the work they've done for me. And it doesn't hurt that having a deep bench of skilled technicians gives them the flexibility to offer appointments every day, including late nights, weekends and occasional holidays (if you have the time). Seriously, you'd have to be bonkers to go anywhere else.

Possible TMI - Almost every single one of the hairs that I need gone are on my face and neck and are coming out of layers of acne scar tissue. They ITCH even before they surface and I can't help scratching my skin open in certain spots. All those spots are finally starting to heal thanks to Christine! One of the worst patches is on my neck right at the hairline. Not only did it have very thick hairs, but it was crowded with an insane amount of hairs so fine I could barely see them but couldn't keep my hands off them. I noticed an improvement right away, and at a faster clip than with other practitioners. She is *extremely* thorough and the process is taking less treatments than I'd anticipated. Full disclosure*: She spends more time than most on each hair and really searches for the follicle, which means a slightly above average pain level. But it's really effective and **a lot** less pain in the long run (not to mention cost effective). *This could be just me since my tissue is so scarred. I also really appreciate how she can fit me into her schedule.

The welcoming staff are friendly and attentive to your every need and even offer drinks while you relax getting a pedicure (which is what my partner and I received). Star Nails is a delightful Rainier Beach treat. The big, comfy massage chairs have got your back covered, but should they miss a spot, don't worry- the shoulder massage at the end of your manicure releases any lingering tension. My legs and feet feel like newborn babies after their sea salt scrub-down. One of my feet has higher arches and takes more abuse from normal walking, so the extra attention to my arches during the foot massage was heavenly. My toes got a base coat, bright green China Glaze polish, and a top coat to finish it off. I asked for no polish on my nails, so I could use my Espionage Cosmetics wraps from ECCC, and Hanna instead gave them a stunning buff. I cannot wait for my next visit! read more

The woman working on my toes was meticulous and thorough - everything my sister had said made her like going there, too. Five stars! However, the woman working on my fingers was apathetic at best - she was aggressive trimming my cuticles (not over-trimming what should be trimmed, but slap-dash cutting at the actual skin around my nail bed) and when she applied the polish, she wasn't even looking at my nails most of the time! It showed in the output. The salon was too dim for me to notice at the time, but when I got home and my nails had properly dried, I realized that one of them had a complete gap in the second layer of color. Maybe three stars at this point. I went back in the next day to have it fixed -- the woman who'd done the color wouldn't even make eye contact with me. The woman who'd done my toes was eating her lunch and when I showed her the nail, sighed audibly, clearly agitated, and told me to go pick out my color. 2.5 stars? I couldn't tell from the bottles which was right between two of them and brought them to her. I told her I wasn't sure, so would appreciate if she could verify which was right and then repaint the nail. She painted over the crummy work but only on the worst of the nails, the color didn't match when I got into the light, and she just shrugged. Then indicated that she expected a tip. Super clear this wsn't going to get better, so hoping that multicolored nails are in style now and taking my business elsewhere. 1 very disappointed and frustrated star.

I decided to honor their policy and pay, and I told her that they should tell first time customers this policy so they are not surprised when we come to the register. What happened next really surprised me. I gave her my card to pay, and her POS machine was malfunctioning with the chip and she started yelling at me because her POS was not working (the chip and the slide function). It was an older machine but it's no problem, things happen. However, I didn't appreciate how rude she was to me. When I gave her another card to use she stated that she'll have to charge me an extra charge for using a credit card. She also asked me if I had Apple Pay, which I do and that they accept that. She asked for my phone, but the POS machine didn't have a tap feature for Apple Pay via iPhone to use. It was only a card insert machine. And when I asked her to bring her POS machine for me to tap my phone like she requested,, she kept yelling at me that my card in my phone wasn't working. I then decided to just use my debit card and she told me that they don't take Bank of America, which I was so confused that she didn't understand that this was a debit card. At this point I knew that something was really off. I ended up using my debit card after she was arguing with me and being aggressive in her tone and manner with me when it was calm the whole time during the pedicure. She seemed like a very sweet lady and we had a pleasant conversation about the cream she thought would be helpful for my nails but I did not expect for it to end that way. I couldn't believe how she decided to take advantage of me and charge me $60 for a no polish pedicure and a product I bought separately for $15. When I corrected her and said that the math is actually $50 ($35 for classic pedicure that she said I had to pay even though I didn't get any nail polish and $15 for the product), we changed the price to $50 from $60. I let her know that I will pay this time, because I know how hard it can be for small businesses, but I am never coming here ever again. The way she handled that situation was unfortunate and now I have to write this review to warn people away from this place. It sucks when people try and get over on you. Especially as a first time customer. Is the economy that bad for people to treat folks this way? All I wanted was a simple treat after a long day at work. All and all, don't come here. Ever. I wish that lady the best.

I've accumulated my favorites, and a lot of them feel less like people providing a service and more like familiar neighborhood aunties/friends I haven't seen in a while. They will ooh and aah over whatever I happen to show up wearing, whether I'm actually dressed up or have rolled in looking hobo chic in sweats. New Hair color, fading hair color, eyeliner, eyeshadow, jewelry that is expensive or absolutely not expensive... somebody will notice it and hype me up. They also have no problem side-eyeing me when I disappear for weeks and eventually return with nails or toes that are WELL beyond their maintenance date. I get scolded for neglecting them, give my excuses about traveling, being busy or simply being too lazy/burnt out to care, and receive the appropriate sympathetic nods mixed with disappointment. Then we carry on. That familiarity is honestly one of my favorite things about coming here. Quality can depend quite a bit on which tech you get, though, especially for Gel-X and nail art. After this many years I know whose work suits me and who I prefer to book with. I've had some beautiful sets here that (I mocked up the design & bring a visual with me) strangers have literally stopped me to compliment, but I've also had sets with premature lifting and recently had a Gel-X extension pop completely off in under five days. So for anything more involved, I recommend finding a tech whose work you like and booking with them specifically. The owner and I are decidedly not each other's cup of tea, and after four years I generally prefer coming at times when she isn't there. I'll leave it at that. My affection for this place has always been much more about the techs(staff) themselves. So no, it isn't a salon I'd describe as flawless or perfectly consistent. But there are women here I genuinely adore seeing, they've done some wonderfully ridiculous colorful nails for me over the years, and there's something lovely about walking into your neighborhood nail salon after disappearing for a while and immediately being greeted with, essentially, "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? THE BEST NAILS I'VE EVER GOT DONE, EVER!!!!!! And I'm not…read morejust talking about design - because they can do it all! - but I'm talking about QUALITY and PRICE! I had my nails done at a different salon that they decided to just do what they want with my nails without asking me! (dipping powder), long story short, it was horrible, uneven, and just a disaster, 2 weeks later, I decided to call Lovely Nails for a new set!! They took the time to take out my old set and gave me these fresh ones! The guy who helped me was beyond outstanding!! He was precise and made sure each nail was perfectly even. O cannot stress enough how much I love the quality of their work in this place!! They definitely gained a loyal customer! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

Terrible. I don't write bad reviews, ever - but this one deserves it. (BTW, it's now called CQ…read moreNails.) Rude on the phone, but I figured that was a one-off. Got there, was given menu, got no-polish mani/pedi, and was charged THE SAME PRICE AS FULL SERVICE. I guess I should have asked, but I stupidly assumed that it would be less. I didn't ask for no polish to be less pricey, but all they had were cheap nail polishes. Again, I was stupid, that should have been the third signal for me to leave. BUT I DIDN'T. Barf. Won't make that mistake ever again. What should have been my VERY FIRST SIGN: no one else was in there! I guess I was stuck on stupid that day...
