It's the week before my birthday and I walk into Star Nail for a fill in and design. I show the man behind the desk a picture and ask if someone can do this for me. He said yes...sit down. He shows the picture to the nail tech and she also says she can do the design. It was a basic marble design. She proceeds to do my nails and I ask the man from the desk if I should choose the colors I want he says "No! She'll do that later!" I'm like oookay. So she does the fill and picks out all the wrong colors I have to explain to her then to him cause she doesn't understand what neon is. So we find the right colors and she attempts to do the design. She shows me the first nail and I was like. This isn't marble. She was using a nail brush instead of the lil metal device they use for nail marbling and shes looking like I'm supposed to agree. Clearly she lied AND he lied. I told her if you can't do the design then just remove what you've done and I'll leave. I was pissed! The owner charged me full price for a WAIST of time. Just to rob me of my money and you KNOW no one in there had the skill to do the design. I asked him"your charging me full price? He said yes. I paid it but I will never go there again. They lied and cheated me. Poor integrity, poor character and poor business to charge me full price for a job you couldn't complete. AND...they never have hand soap. How do you wash your hands without SOAP. Looks pretty but real low class. read more

Nasty and rude. They have maintained their partitions to keep staff safe but stack the guests on top of each other for service. While they maintain "Social Distance" guideline placements on the floors, they stack guests on top of each other. If you comment or request a more open space for drying, they get nasty and tell you "it's the law. No masks needed. No social distance needed." Then ask if I'm vaccinated. As far as service, I was working in my mom's garden before heading out for a simple manicure. I came home with garden dirt under my nails. Too many reputable places to go to in town. I went initially for just an acrylic full set and spent $85. a week into having the nails on my finger began to swell and i had the nails removed. the nail beds of my fingers are damaged/destroyed and my middle finger is missing half of my finger nail and was lifting when i got the nails removed. if anyone knows a way to get my money back please let me know. I'm used to getting a real pink and white full set of nails. Meaning they build the nail with forms. Here they use tips and a metal tool to give the appearance of the natural nail line for the white tip. That wouldn't be bad if they all looked the same, mine don't. You can see the tip that was adhered to my nail between the white tip and my nail bed. On two fingers it looks like I have air pockets. I hate them. It so depressing going somewhere and paying for mediocre service. I know we all need jobs but be the best at what you do or don't do it! read more

TIM cut all my nails off when I asked to soak off the acrylic he wouldn't, he has been doing my nails for months and decided to take the short cut route which lead me to having no nails. Honestly the best place in Middletown to get your nails done. I've tried Top Nail in the past, and always ended up with inconsistencies and a different nail tech every time (despite always requesting the same person) Brian does an AMAZING job. He definitely takes his time, but I'm okay with that because I know he's very meticulous when it comes to nails. He's always made my nails look perfect and always gives me exactly what I ask for. After visiting this salon yesterday with my daughter, I can say I will never go back. My daughter is 15. We get dip powder manicures . With powder, you have to soak off the powder in remover. Her nail technician ripped them off with a cuticle remover, removing the top layer of her nails and ripping off several of her nails. When my daughter told her that is not the right way she said " I know what I am doing". When I brought it to the owners attention, he became argumentative and did not apologize . I was so annoyed we ended up leaving without a manicure . He also suggested that I leave. read more

So I first went here 1/15 I had a gel pedicure by a nice woman it came out ok. For my next service I had French gel tips done. This was by yen (a really funny good company woman) firstly when spinning my nails I asked for pointed round nails. When applying the gel builder pink it was a dirty and stick tub I ignored based on how. Ice she was and let her continue. I waited for her to add white gel builder for the top nail portion and she didn't. She said she would do it later ok. When she was ready to apply the white of the nail she used white gel ( no name brand) polish not builder gel. This defeats the purpose of getting and paying for French gel tips. Whatever I decided to just leave it alone as I haven't had this service done in a long time so I appreciated it. I do. What I did not appreciate is the constant pressure to get designs on my nails. No offense to ppl that do it's just not for me. I would maybe get one design that's it. I refused all 4 times even though she kept on about how nice it looks. I finally advised that I don't care for a design. The first photo is the final product. Gave her a good tip as I understand this is what she works for. On my second visit 1/28 for fill ins (gave her another chance as she was super nice) I decided to show her a photo of what I really want my nails to look like. This is the second photo. She advised me that since I would like to shorten the length it won't look exact but she understands none the less. Ok. She did the exact same procedure the second time. I already knew not to expect what I wanted but still liked her enough. She was ecstatic about it being Chinese New Year and offered me some Chinese candy which I liked. Once done she again pushed for me to get a design I caved and allowed her to put something in the celebration of her holiday. She the excitedly added good luck in Chinese writing. I loved it. she explained that she would be away on holiday for 3 weeks. I was very happy for her and asked her honestly who can I go to in order to get the same if not better services she stated everyone is great. Third and fourth pics are of my nails completed. It is now 2/19 and I'm considering in trying a different place after seeing a woman's nails who works at American cleaners. She got hers done at top nail. We shall see. read more

If I could give this business zero stars...I would. I walked in after calling to ask if I needed an appointment, I was told no. I waited thirty minutes after I arrived when there were several chairs open & several technicians sitting around. After thirty minutes I still wasn't taken care of. I waited an entire hour (because I timed it) and when I stood up to leave is when I was told I could be seen. Another customer came in to get her nails done & was with her child & her child was told to not touch anything several times, when he was just sitting in the chair. This place used to be good before they expanded. It's like playing Russian roulette. Sometimes ur nails might come out alright and others it might not. A month ago i got my nails done and within TWO DAYS, 2 nails popped off. By the 4th day i was missing 4 nails. I went back and the other workers were laughing at the guy who did my nails because it was so bad. He did re do them all but it wasn't a great experience. I went to a new place and they told me that he did a bad job. I also got a pedicure a different time and it was the worst pedicure ever!!!! I've had own issues with the last gel manicure...have to grow my nails out from the base because of aggressive filing, made my natural nail VERY thin. But worse than that, they took advantage of my 87 year old mother and gave her a gel manicure when she CLEARLY had and asked for a acrylic fill. SHAME ON THEM. Worst pedicure of my life. My nails are all different lengths, gel polish on my skin/cuticles, and polish wasn't evenly painted so it is see through. Horrible customer service when I told them I didn't want anyone to fix my toes and asked for my money back I was screamed at and given only half my money. Vonna ground my nails down short IMMEDIATELY after I told her to leave the length. She had to rebuild the nails on my right hand with gel. She used globs and globs of gel on all of my nails. When I put them under the light they burned my fingers almost to tears. Then...while "shaping" them she ground my cuticles and surrounding skin more then the gel. We know what comes next...yes they clean the nails with ALCOHOL!! All over my ripped up cuticles and skin. I gave her the picture of what I wanted....but she didn't paint them that way. I was so angry and frustrated. I left with THICK, LUMPY, LOP SIDED, UNEVEN NAILS AND BLEEDING AND BURNED FINGERS!! I realize that she was not the only tech there. There may be better ones. Wish I could give them 0 stars, I've been coming to this salon for months but the other day I had an appointment for 6pm with my mother. I asked to soak off my acrylic nails and get a gel manicure.Tim refused to and decided to cut off my real nails and use a fake nail tip to pop off my acrylic. After multiple times of asking him to soak and telling him his method hurts I decided to tell him to stop. His wife even got snappy with me and said " you wanted refill" which is a complete lie. They seemed to be annoyed with me not wanting to do my regular refill. I was visibly upset and started to cry because of how disrespected I felt by the man who has been doing my nails for MONTHS- a man that I was always kind to and tipped. I went to the salon for the first time today and decided to download yelp just to warn others! I went in for a simple gel pedicure with a French and the woman who did my nails made the white a little too thick. After noticing on only one toe I kindly asked her to fix it. She grabbed my leg so hard my ankle popped and said now you want me to fix this? I was kind the entire interaction up until this point. I told her forget it and just finished my pedicure please. She then Took out her clippers and cut the nail shorter so the white was even on all of the other toes. My toe is now bleeding, I am in pain and my leg is absolutely killing me. As I went to pay I asked the man at the desk if he was the owner. He informed me that he was. I asked why he did not come over to try and rectify the situation and allowed it to escalate all while being within earshot? He told me that it wasn't his problem and that I owed him $50. Their gel pedicure price is usually 35$. On my receipt, I later noticed he entered " custom item" I will not only be disputing the transaction I will make sure to never go back to this place again, to warn everyone, and to return to OC nails in Middletown. 06/04/2018 Overall Service is not bad, Customer service is horrible due to manager. The manager Brian is not customer friendly, he is very confrontational and condescending. I have absolutely no issues with anyone speaking their native language, but when you are speaking about a customer with your co-workers do it in a manner where a rebuttal can be made if need be. I am speaking as a foreign born citizen. When you as a manager go on a verbal lashing due to a customers request to speak English (when speaking to others about me) then you become loud and arrogant . The final outcome equals poor management and business skills (what ever happened to customer satisfaction)? I was once a happy customer but my money will never be spent at this establishment ever again. Simply based on Brian's behavior. P.S. Rude and unprofessional receptionist. I went back the folk morning after getting a gel manicure to ask that a jagged edge be refilled and another clear coat added and was told by the receptionist there was nothing wrong with my nail. Then he told me to "sit down!" after I insist it be repaired. While the nail technician repaired my nail he the receptionist and another employee spoke loudly in another language, which I feel is very rude and disrespectful. For a nail salon, it's decent..I keep going back, I haven't had to complain. The manicurists are good, attentive, give me what I want. I think they could incorporate hot stones with pedicures which is part of other salons i.e. Blooming nails but for the price it's good. They also do SNS nails which is a great natural system, they honor appointments and they are moving to a new locations pretty soon. read more

I have read reviews from previous customers and I saw with my own eyes that one of the tech made a lady cry on Saturday June 29th, 2019. They were joking around I think she hit her nail against the nail dryer and ruined slightly her nail, she said, oh no I messed this.up I think possibly she did it twice she said, sorry. He got highly upset she thought he was joking whatever he told her. I got seated to get my nails done and when she got seated to get a pedi she was crying. If I was her I would have paid with no tip and walked out. Sad for her I wanted to comfort her but was my turn to do nails. My problem is my hands are bad I have carpal tunnel and trigger fingers and they get stiff so he constantly like pushing my fingers and it hurts. I told him but seems he dont get it nor understands. I really think they should all take up English cause half do not understand us customers only money hungry. Take up English hard to communicate. I may look for some place else to do my nails.
