I am quite bummed. I have been going here for years and had such a bad experience recently that I will not be going back. To start, I booked an appointment 2 weeks prior for acrylic nails. When I arrived to my appointment, I was told they stopped doing acrylic a couple of months ago. I was there 5 weeks prior and they did an acrylic fill for me no problem. So I opted for dip instead. The woman that does my nails is very talented (hence the 2nd star), however she did not seem in a good mood and wasn't very nice. She seemed irritated that she had to remove my acrylic nails that she did for me 5 weeks prior. I asked for a French tip and said I wanted it thin, and she kept saying "that's not thin." I wasn't going to argue and "thin" can be pretty subjective, so I just said "well thin to you must mean something different than thin to me." Lastly, I got to the register and the guy that helped me said "$70". I asked him for the price breakdown because I've never paid $70 for them to do my nails, and he said the following: $45 for dip (on my natural nail, no nail tips) $10 for acrylic removal $10 for french tip $5 for oval shape I felt scammed. I would've asked for a fill had they still done acrylics, but they didn't, so they charged an extra $10. And you mean to tell me that shaping is not included in the service????? The nail tech also kept complaining how busy and understaffed they are. My thought was - take less appointments and so no more to walks-in? I visited Star Nails for this first time this past Thursday. I had an interview on Friday and wanted to make a good impression. I have only gotten my nails done twice in my life, and once was a really horrible experience with acrylics. I don't usually find the process enjoyable because certain parts hurt, especially pushing back the cuticles, but after this experience I think I'll be making regular trips to Star Nails. I made an appointment the day before. Despite being late, there was no wait time. I got a gel manicure and pedicure with callous removal (for an extra $7) which came out altogether around $60. The two women who did my nails were very nice. They worked at the same time which definitely made the process more efficient. They weren't rough and nothing hurt or was unnecessarily uncomfortable. I am super pleased with the results. I have spent nearly the entire weekend washing dishes, packing and unpacking for a house move, lifting heavy objects and doing other labor--my nails are still in perfect condition! There is not a dull or streaky spot, no chipping, completely flawless. I think I found my new treat-yoself spot. read more

Got nails done and by that night nail polish was chipping. I went in to get it fixed two days later. A week and a half later and one of the nails fell off and another was chipping. Called to see if I could be scheduled but it didn't work for the time I needed. Had to go to another salon to repair broken nail and change nail polish. Came here for the first time yesterday with my friend. We called in for 10am appt., my friend got seated right away but I was called about 20 mins later. Overall though my experience here was wonderful! Tami did my nails, she was very attentive and did hesitate to let me know about the price ranges and color options for my nails. I intended to get a full set with regular polish and ended up with a gel full set and accent nail haha, what a sweet talker! I'm happy she did though, I'm very pleased with my nails. I used to go to Nathan's Nails pretty consistently but just wanted to try something new and I am very happy! She was gentle with my cuticles and was constantly moisturizing my hands. My usual nail place is closed on Monday so I decided to go to Star Nails because my coworkers recommended this nail salon. Worse decision in regards to my nail care! I made an appointment for Monday (2/17) for dip and by Thursday my right thumb had chipped. I thought it was fine and I'll have them fix it on Friday. By Friday (2/21) my right thumb had began to completely chip off and I no long have gel on my thumb. Then my left index nail began to chip and the rest of the gel began to come off. I paid for gel nails to becoming apart on the 5th day. At the usual nail salon my gel nail will last me up to 4 weeks with no nail chips. I do not recommend this place to people. I am writing this review as I am getting my pedicure done by Mary. She is so good and takes her time which I love. Very good service, and they offer you bottled water, tea and even Coke! I wanted to like it, I really did. They were accommodating bc they originally said they don't have time for acrylics but they managed to fit me in after shuffling around to three technicians. However not only are their acrylics expensive $50 w/ student discount but they also don't last a long time. My friends' acrylics lasted 3-4 weeks but as you can see from the pictures the top coat is already wearing out and there are chips in BOTH of my index fingers after less than 1 week. That's just poor quality imo. Not to mention when I first got them done she didn't remove the glue from around the edges. My daughter has been a regular here for three years and I come with her every time I'm in town. We came here last Thursday and I spent $120 for 2 pedi's, a mani for her and a fill for me. Saturday morning, as I'm about to head home to San Diego, I notice a broken nail. I wasn't surprised, as the woman had made them incredibly thin. I went back to Star nails and Diana did a beautiful repair at no charge. The following day FOUR more nails broke. Unfortunately I was back in San Diego. I called Star nails hoping to get a refund for the fill. I spoke to the owner who tells me my nails are breaking because they're old and that my nail tech had asked if I wanted to replace them with a new set. I tell her no they are not old and this was my first fill on this set. And no the tech did not ask to replace them, but if she had, I would've declined. I also told her I've been wearing acrylics for 40 years and it's rare that I break a nail. In this situation the nails were too thin and the tips were popping off despite how extra cautious I was. The owner refused to offer any solution or even an apology. Rather than refunding $18 to my card (or whatever they charge for fills), she chose to argue and lie and ultimately lose two regular customers. read more

I came here with my niece we had an appointment at 3:30, we walked in at 3:43 and they told us they let all the staff go because we were 13 minutes late. I'd you're going to close up for business for the day, may a) let people know when they make an appointment if there isn't a grace period or b) call the person and verify whether or not they are are coming! What a great place! My friend booked us acrylic fill appointments here a few weeks ago, and I was sceptical at first from the outside. Walking in, we were greeted and my friend was taken in first before any other technicians were available. The one working on my friend allowed me to sit next to her and chat while I waited. When I was finally sat down, the lady took her time to remove the polish, re-shape, file, and glue to make them look authentic as possible. She was sweet and even coated them three times over so they wouldn't chip. It was only around $20 for the entire service and was even provided with a student discount! Came for my first mani/pedi since pre COVID. All the services are outdoors and masks required for safety. They did an amazing job and were super careful and meticulous. The worst part though is their attitudes, they usually send you away, so walk ins are definitely not welcome. One of my nails broke randomly, so I walked in to see if they could fix that one nail. Yesterday I walked in and was able to get right in so that was 1 star! The massage chair was comfortable and the place seemed to be clean - that's another star! I had a mani- pedi and a gel removal on both. I needed a break from gel so I just went with a clear. They couldn't do a mani & a pedi at the same time so the whole process took and hour and a half, which is really frustrating but they didn't tell me that until after they started the pedi. The pedicure was ok - she didn't ask me if I wanted callus removal or paraffin or anything else so I didn't get it - just a basic pedi and the foot/leg massage was under a minute - I counted. The lady was nice and pleasant not over friendly not rude, she was nice. The manicure was basic as well, he didn't ask me either if I wanted paraffin or anything else so it was just a basic. I would have done paraffin and scrub if they would have asked but they never did. The hand/arm massage was 32 seconds - I counted. He did not clean under my nails, he didn't clean my nails! He left me with dirty nails and thought that was ok. He was not rude or mean but not overly friendly either, a little on the pampas side but not rude. He didn't clean my nails! I paid $67 for a no frills, mani/pedi with no color and I left with dirt under my nails on both hands. I sat there for a minute and was going to say something but I really felt like it was obviously intentional, you can't NOT see the dirty nails, you can't. So $67 - $10 to remove the gel polish, he said he doesn't charge to remove the gel polish if you are getting new gel, so $17 for a manicure which is good, $5 to remove gel, then $30 for a pedicure and $5 to remove gel - no color and dirty nails for $67. I'm not going back and I do not recommend this place. I will say that there were a few people who had appointments and seemed to be regulars (all over 65) - the staff was very nice to them and they seemed to be happy there so they are doing a good job for some people, just not for me. They always take their time and I never leave dissatisfied. Everyone in the shop pays close attention to details and genuinely cares about the health of your nails.
