Stopped by around 10:30 PM and the parking lot was quiet, which is a night-and-day difference from daytime traffic on Granite St. There really aren't many supermarkets in the area open this late anymore. I enjoy going to this Star Market when I need last minute groceries! They are open until 11pm daily & I prefer over going to Stop& Shop. Prices can be a tad higher than other grocery stores but for me, it's either this or going all the way to Wegman's lol. This location has a Starbucks inside that gets super packed especially in the mornings, so good luck if you decided to come here for caffeine fix at opening because that line can be a ~30 min wait JUST to order & usually takes another 10 min for the drink to be ready. As for groceries, I enjoy getting green grapes from here because they're always super crispy + firm & always somehow on sale, veggies, & chicken. Though the last few times I went, they didn't really have much for chicken options (breasts, thigh, skin-on, skinless, etc). I'd say, this is great if you're grabbing something quick or missing something in your recipe & if this is a close-by market to you. Otherwise, meh. read more

Store Director allows contractors from across the street to park in the parking lot, which creates a very cluttered and almost impossible parking situation. Combine that with the fact that the carriage wheels lock up when you get past a certain point-which means you can't get your carriage full of groceries to your parked vehicle because you had to park so far away that you end up logging groceries across the dangerous parking lot. Do not understand why the store allows contractors to park in customer parking which inconveniences the actual paying customers. Considering the construction is going to be on going for years don't see why I'll ever go back. I'll just go to Stop & Shop down the street. read more

Well I'm done as a customer. I started shopping here when I loved into the neighborhood 7 years ago. This was the closest grocery store to my home, and it was fine. As the years have gone on their staffing levels have been terrible. Long lines at check out, constantly dirty floors, shelves that are not fully stocked, and the prices are crazy high now. I have been driving 20 minutes to the Market Basket in Brockton and I have had much better experiences. Tons of registers running at all time, fully stocked shelves, and affordable prices. Milk at MB is $2.59 and at Star it's $3.99. Also, many sales at Star you now have to log into the app and clip a digital coupon to get the discount. Why not just have a sale, or give sale prices to people with member accounts? Why do I have to work so hard to shop here? You'd think they'd want to make it easy to give them money. I was still okay using it for the times I only needed 1 or 2 items, but with the new security gates I'm no longer going here anymore. I don't need to be treated like a criminal for the privilege of shopping at a business that has proven time and again that they don't care about their customers. read more

It's been a while since I've been to this location. It was nice that they had Starbucks inside which I don't find most groceries. Have it was clean inside and it was pretty much straightforward. I went there with my husband and we were cashing out. My husband left something behind that he forgot to bring closer and instead of politely asking, the cashier was so rude and told him to give him the item. then proceeded to call us rude for doing that. I was trying to explain that we had forgotten to bring it up and he started arguing with me. It was very poor customer service and I told him that as well. read more

Close local spot open late most nights. (11pm) prices are a tad higher than other grocery stores but for parking and convenience it's still good imo. I haven't run into too much expired labeled foods but have seen some veggies look way past their prime. I haven't had issue with service, self checkout usually does the trick and the folks more less are always nice. Having a Starbucks there is also clutch on the go though usually only has 1 maybe 2 people staffed. The store overall is clean and modernized awhile back so it feels clean and open. Ample room to get around and shop. Meat section usually closes earlier (not sure what time) but went for some steak cuts last min and the deli section was shut down already. Always will pop in but i hear the Q is getting a traders soon so that might add competition directly to the area alongside stoppies in southern artery. read more

First of all someone keeps adding lettuce to the poke bowls in the sushi area and it needs to STOP. it's not even in the ingredient list so I am certain someone is cutting corners but adding lettuce rather than seaweed salad or rice. Second of all there is an incredibly rude obese gray haired woman who obviously hates her life that works register. I literally go to self check out with 20 things rather than deal with her comments. I have been coming to this store for many years and have always had a great experience. Their prices are not too bad and they always keep the store clean and the shelves and merchandise displays are very well organized and stocked. Their bakery department has a lot of great baked goods on the sales floor and there is a counter with some delicious looking cakes. The produce department always has fresh fruits and vegetables and their prepared salads are always great. The checkout lines can sometimes be long but the lines always move pretty quickly. They also have a self checkout area available if you don't want to wait for a cashier to ring up your grocery order. They open at 6 AM and stay open until 11 PM most evenings so the hours are very convenient. read more

0 stars. I placed an order 2 days ahead of time for pickup on a holiday weekend, thinking I was taken care. ON THE DAY OF they had the gull to CANCEL IT two hours before my event. Called their customer support and they told me they ran out of inventory. What kind of ancient system do they have where you don't reserve pickup orders for customers who order ahead of time. I think they got someone desperate enough to increase prices the day of and sold them off. Probably thought I wouldn't be bold enough to complain. The service at this star market is impressive. I have glaucoma so I cannot see very well and a young woman woman named sophie took the time to make sure I was able to find everything I needed. They recently renovated their store so everything looks new and clean. I usually have no problem finding stuff that I need but I don't have a particular attachment to certain brands so maybe that's why. Vegetable section is hit or miss, depending on which day of the week, time of the day you go. Sometimes the shelves are completely empty and sometimes they are full. Same for fruits, baked good, and etc. Honestly, at the end of the day, it's just a typical grocery store. There will be days when the line is ridiculously long and there will be days when the store is empty so there is no line. It really all depends. read more

The store is decent but way too many times do I find expired food or items not in stock on the first day of the sale. From cheese to chips to salad mix, you have to be very careful and examine everything because otherwise, you may end up with expired products. This happens every few months and usually I can catch it before I get to the checkout but sometimes when you're just busy, you just place items in your cart, checkout, get home only to find that the cheese you just bought has a bunch of mold growing on it. Ewwww. It's a pain having to check all your food items to make sure they're good and I wish the store would do something about it. Next, some of my favorite items go on sale. The first day early morning (7am) I get there, none of the items are in stock. I go in the afternoon, none are in stock. I go 3 days later none in stock. Why have sales and not even bother to carry any of the sale items. Do you want to know what is always in stock? The fab 5 items where you have to buy 5 of a particular item to get the disount. Who wants to buy 5 boxes of cake mix at one time? How many cakes can someone make before they get tired? Like I mentioned earlier, if this place wasn't so close, I'd definitely go elsewhere.e On the plus side, both the lady and the gentleman (Depending on what time you go) at the fish counter are nice and always helpful. this grocery store promotes false advertisement claiming they hire people but don't. They don't hire people who actually want to work their and are desperate. They givr lame excuses at to why they do that and are bias with their selections. mind you guys this is a depressing grocery store that is expensive and lacks a good selection of food. it's constantly crowded and very slow . they're pay minimum wage just so people can get buy and they still have the audacity to be rude. the lighting is horrible, the carts are squeaky, and the air is very hot to the point people can die from heat stroke. the food packaging is sometimes open and looks like it's been eaten. they have old people who think they are superior to young people. Super underwhelming. Quincy is a large city, and with that, this supermarket and both Stop&Shop's have a huge distinct difference. This store is only open until 10pm at night, is super rundown, and barely ever busy. The entire parking lot, building, and especially their storefront signs are just all so outdated and disappointing. No wonder both of the Stop&Shop's in Quincy are always booming with business and open until midnight or 24 hours! Management here is lacking, with no enforcement of price accuracy or even anyone caring to rectify consumer concerns. Barely enough registers open (one is just not enough... they aren't that busy, but need at least two or three!). Selection is slim. The store seems to be organized in a way that would be useful to have the entrance and exit doors swapped. Overall, extremely disappointed with the state of this old store and wouldn't suggest it to anyone. Go to either of the Stop&Shop's... neither are the best, but better than this store! 1 star. This location is far worse than the Dorchester location! I moved to Quincy recently and shop here often. I am disappointed with how it compares to other locations. For one, the store is much smaller than others, and there are a few things they just can't get right. Every time I buy flowers from this location, they are dead in less than 24 hours! I've had a few events recently (girlfriends birthday, thanksgiving, holiday parties) and every time I have bought flowers -- specifically hydrangeas -- from this store, they are dead by the next morning. This has probably happened 4-5 times in the last couple of months. I just don't understand. Every time I'd buy them from the Dorchester location, they'd last well over a week. Also, I feel this store doesn't get as fresh of fruit as the Dorchester location. I used to only buy my fruit from Star Market because of their superior quality. This store... not so much. Obviously these things aren't deal breakers, and I still shop at the store. But I'm definitely not as wild about Star Market as I used to be. read more

While my register experience is always ok, it's always the other workers causing problems. The person doing overstock, older lady with excessive makeup...she blatantly thought I was taking merchandise yet I was in the front of the store and explained what was going on. I let her watch me while I slowly packed my items then had the cashier acknowledge me so she knew everything was ok. Unfortunately this is another Star Market location that I'm giving up on; the other being the Lower Mills location---both for similar reasons. First off let me state that I've never had issues with the employees. Everyone from the deli counter, meat and seafood dept, checkout...they are great, friendly and hard working. My issues are with a few other things, mostly regarding the lackluster and seemingly neglected produce department. The quality of a lot of items (Iceberg lettuce, fruit & onions in particular) are borderline unqualified for retail sale. Specifically, Halo Oranges. In just about each bag, there were one or two rotted---ROTTED oranges. Unacceptable, and I have pointed this out twice in the past to management, but here we are again, with rotten fruit made available to customers. This is why I've chosen to take to Yelp; I normally wouldn't post an impulsive negative review, but it seems my private complains have gone ignored. I'll balance it out by saying that there is a good selection of products (non-produce) within the store and their organic and international aisle is one of the best in the area. Prices (store wide) are a bit on the pricy side, considering you can buy the same products for a bit less at nearby Stop & Shop or Big Y. I'm not sure how they justify higher prices when the market itself isn't in the most desirable location. The parking lot needs to be reconfigured to make parking less chaotic and nightmarish....it's long overdue for an update. The restrooms need regular cleaning and there needs to be a security presence around to deter undesirables who seem to constantly lurk around the store with dubious intentions---particularly in the restroom. I'll leave it at that. Management: please don't ignore suggestions and concerns brought to you by regular customers. People judge people on their poor management skills (I'm one of them) and ignoring your customers will result in poor business. As of now I'm not looking to return here any further. First, I notice that no one from corporate Star Market/Shaws has ever weighed in on customers' comments on this site. That means it doesn't monitor this site or it does and doesn't care. Either way, it says corporate doesn't care. Second, this store is filthy. Always. Look at the floors as you walk around and brace yourself if you choose to look at the ceiling (caked, dirty HVAC vents, broken and dirty tiles, etc.). The produce section looks like the old Haymarket outdoor market after a busy day: there is always produce refuse on the floor. I have never seen anyone cleaning in the store--anywhere. Employees are nice if you can find them (the ones behind counters and at registers), otherwise they don't exist. You will never see an employee in an aisle. You will never be asked by an employee if you need help. You will never find the manager or his or her name posted. You have to conclude that no one takes pride in this location, especially corporate management. There are lots of good alternate choices for shopping in Quincy: Stop & Shop, Hannaford's, and Roche Brothers (the king of customer service, cleanliness and variety of foods and products). read more

Very underrated grocery store. Since stop and shop has been picketing I have been coming to star market more. The prices are great and they treat their employees with respect who in turn treat their customers with respect. I have never had a bad experience and also never had to wait in the long lines that I am use to shopping at other grocery stores. read more

This place is like a museum to supermarkets. If any of the younger Yelpers ever wanted to see what a supermarket looked like in the 90s, this is the place to go. I have worked in customer service for decades, and it never ceases to amaze me how companies endlessly take their customers for granted and succeed IN SPITE of themselves. I just came back from Star Market in Quincy, MA, after buying groceries, I went to the service counter and handed the young girl behind the counter a $10 bill and asked "could I please have a roll of quarters". Before I asked this, she looked happy and carefree, but upon hearing my request, she and the other lady behind the counter suddenly became stone-faced and ultra-serious and told me abruptly "No". I asked "why"? Her reply "We don't sell quarters". Before I get too far into this, I must clarify, I'm not asking them to "sell or buy" anything, Just change one denomination of money for another. Then they went into this store policy BS, stating in a very serious mono-tone voice "we only have a certain amount of quarters" ( the other lady parroted this fake excuse too) Really? I was under the impression that their supply of quarter rolls was limitless, and that it fell from heaven like manna which fed the Hebrews in the desert for 40 years. YES, OF COURSE it's only a certain amount, but that's rather disingenuous, as a large grocery chain like theirs MUST keep PILES of quarters available at all times. So I Know they have plenty, which means, the girl, and the person at Star Market who started this stupid policy simply does not WANT to give quarter rolls! Secondly. You know what I do for a living? Well, it doesn't matter, suffice to say, I wake up at 4:30 in the morning to go to a job I hate. It's what comes later that is very relevant. You see, I take that money, the money I got from the job I hate, and I drive, I drive to Start Market in Quincy, MA to give them this money, GIVE THEM MY MONEY! And all I want in return, is a smiling cashier, decent prices, and occasionally, a ROLL of QUARTERS, because my landlord also sees fit to nickel and dime me by charging me for the privilege of using their washing machine and dryer. You only have a certain number of quarter rolls? GET MORE! I'm not taking anything from you, it's not costing you ANYTHING. It's a value-added convenience that people need sometimes that you can offer for FREE. But, it apparently "bothers" the management at Star Market on 130 Granite St in Quincy, MA to have a few less rolls of quarters and a few more $10 bills, and to have the inconvenience of ordering more quarter rolls from their weekly delivery(must be SOOO hard to do that) and to have happy customers. I used to work in the wireless industry. While there, I learned that it costs $400 to get a person to walk into the door and become a customer. I imagine the numbers are substantial for Star Market too. Let's do some fun math and see if their "We don't sell quarters because we only get a certain amount" policy holds up. According to the CDFI Fund, the average profit margin for a supermarket is about 2%. and I spend approximately $1500 a year at Star Market. So that's $30 a year. Figure I spend another 10 years in Quincy, that's $300. I know it doesn't sound like much, but it adds up. So, back to my review. since their stupid policy of treating PAYING customers needing laundry quarters like annoyances doesn't look like it will be ending anytime soon. I will NOT be shopping there anymore. I will shop at Hannaford, where, surprise, surprise, they also only have a " certain number of quarters" ..BUT they SHARE them with their paying customers. This review won't focus on product offerings or prices at this location (which, as many of the reviews before this point out, are on/off at best; that said, I've gotten some excellent deli items here). My review will focus on one member of staff here: Abdul. I have extensive experience in customer service, satisfaction, and hospitality, and let me say that this guy does not cut the mustard. Do I think he should pretend to be overjoyed with his cashier role? Not in the slightest! What I DO think: a customer shouldn't leave feeling as though they've burdened or personally offended the staff...ever. Sacks of groceries have been pushed into my face when a bagger and empty cart were waiting. He's told me my coupons were fake and puffed in annoyance when I don't have exact change (we're talking a $20 bill on a tab of $15 and change). As a standard, I try to be pleasant toward anyone dealing with the public--their jobs are no picnic--and my approach to Abdul is just the same.
