Not the same quality of work they used to provide. My father and I have been doing business, alot of business, with star for over 25 years and have always been pleased. WELL NOT ANYMORE About a year ago we sent out a bunch of motorcycle parts (rare/custom/and stock pieces) to be redone or done for the first time and it is awful. Not to mention expensive, thousands of dollars worth of work which we were happy to pay based on prior experience with star.
However the First time out it took almost 5 months to come back and when the items came back 75% of the parts already had pits and flaking problems. I contacted star explained the issue and sent the pieces back. At my own cost. Another 3 months and at least a dozen phone calls later we only received half of what was sent. it took another 2 months for the remaining parts. Again a good deal of the parts still were not done to the same quality we have come to expect from them but my Dad said let it go, he didnt want to waste anymore time and money, as we were at the final stage of building the bike, all that was left was waiting on the parts to come back
NOW HERE IS THE TRUE SIGN OF THERE INCOMPETENCE The bike has just recently been finished but not only are there the pieces that were not 100% when they came back but the pieces that appeared to be ok at first are now full of pits and the chrome is literally flaking off in spots. This motorcycle has been in a climate controlled garage and has not once been on the road. Its scheduled to go to its first show the end of this month.
To be clear We are not talking about old beat up parts that we attempted to refinish, the metal on every part was nearly flawless structurally, (my father is a master machinist) they just needed to be done in chrome. Some of the parts were brand new (new old stock) others were made by hand and the old parts were in excellent condition
To give a clear comparison of quality I also have another BSA chopper that I had sent to star in 1996 that I have put at least 90,000 miles on, has been in the rain, salt air ect. It's been ridden and ridden hard and the chrome work on that bike is in better shape today than the chrome that was done on this newly built bike over the last year.
TO THE OWNER OF STAR CHROME...
My Dad has put his heart and sole into this bike and it truly breaks my heart to see all of his hard work not shine(pun intended) the way it should. For that I will make sure everyone I have ever referred to you as well as anyone else who ever needs work done in the future, knows that your work is not up to par anymore
once upon a time you did beautiful, quality work and for that we have been extremely loyal, unfortunately you have now lost not only our business but that of all of our friends and family. In the biker community that's a lot. It is my belief that it is time for you to call it quits and retire. read more
