Fantastic service and good prices. I've had to take one car in after hail damage, which they repaired quickly and effectively, including the replacement of a few panels (apparently, many cars' roofs are made from aluminum to reduce the car's weight...), and the car ended up looking better than before. I also t-boned someone who thought I had to stop on Ridge (nope). I lost the entire front bumper and both headlights. The other car's front axle got bent. DAR fixed both of our cars and handled the insurance process beautifully. Walking into the joint is a trip. It still looks and feels like a shop from the 1970s, but I don't think you'll find a better team anywhere in the area. read more

When I first walked in, it was like walking into a house made into an office with two grumpy-looking guys sitting in desks with their laptops practically back to back, each doing their own thing. They gave me a blank stare when I walked in and asked, "Can I help you?" I can't remember the first guy I spoke with; slimmer than the two and who also gave me the estimate. While waiting for the estimate to be printed, I talked with both guys (the other guy was Rich-heavier than his business partner--I only know his name because I took his business card) and found them to be pretty friendly, down-to-earth, as well as knowledgeable--we traded some good stories back and forth about Evanston. Got the estimate and was told the car would be ready, at the latest, by Friday. I balked at the amount, but was comparing another estimate that I got from Richards on Grand. The estimate from Richards was very reasonable and cheaper, including the paint job that would be needed for the bumper and hood that I was replacing. But I decided on DAR because it was closer. Simple as that. I didn't even do a review; just happened to be driving on Dempster and saw the words, auto rebuilders. I was actually on my way to Richard's on Grand Auto Rebuilders. I was at Western/Peterson with the new hood strapped down with bungie cords and the bumper in the car, when I decided to turn around and head into Evanston. I'm sure Richard's has great service, as this is what caused me to look into them first, but it took me longer to get estimates for painting and putting the car back in shape (almost a week and a half). That wasn't so much a turn off because anytime I spoke with anyone, they were very professional. With that being said, I'm still glad I made the best choice. A few days later I picked up the car and it looked better than it did before the accident. But, of course it should, right? Great job guys!! read more

Needed a pretty quick/simple repair done, and chose here due to proximity to home and work as well as Yelp reviews. Was quoted $137, but charged $199 because "we had to order the part from somewhere else." I was not informed of this until the work was done, and was told I was wrong about the initial estimate until I provided the printed estimate -- then given the shady explanation above. The work was done quickly but the up charge of 50% from the initial quote left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I had several small dings and scrapes that needed attention. Dick P. gave me a really great deal and was willing to squeeze me into the schedule since it wasn't a huge job. Then they buffed the entire car, covered up all the little scratches on our bumper--and didn't charge us a penny over the estimate! The staff are incredibly nice here. No Fuzz about this place, my car was hit by someone who demonstrated honest after hitting my car left me a message on window and paid for damages. This person recommended this place by her friend. The incident happened on Friday before the long weekend before Labor day; we've decided to meet after Labor Day at this place. I got there first and since walked in I felt so unpleasant and unwelcome, I spoke with the so everyone called a great guy, well this guy was not a so nice person. Felt this person did not care about my presence, I asked to start the process of estimate and trust me he was not like everyone else is saying, that he did this he did that, I DO not think so; I asked for estimate on other little scratches and was cold answer as $450 to fix scratches on every panel. I've asked for areas were the bumper needed to be fixed along scratches done based on damages. The person who hit my car paid $1,288 including taxes. Mr. Dick did not call me on following Monday I had to call, he did not care because he was paid, said to bring car on Wednesday; I dropped the car and asked what was next, he said he will call me on Friday. Today is Friday and was 3 p.m. and NO call, I called and he said car was being washed and will be ready at 4 p.m. I arrived and the color seemed more darker than original, I was sure Dick included the damages I've pointed in the beginning; but my surprised was that NO fix; he only fixed the bumper and confronted the matter and he said it was not included on estimate, which I requested to include the damage, and because the total paid was pretty substantial I assumed was included. quite frankly NOT satisfied with service, and lack of information from shop. I would NOT recommend this place, there are better and honest. Like everyone else said that he offered a lot of stuff and was helpful; with me he was not at any time. read more

I was out of town on business and someone seriously swiped my car while I was parked in a parking lot... no note left... just the dents and dings from the encounter. I was worried that maybe the dents and scratches would turn to rust if left untreated so I took her in for a look-see. I actually chose Dempster Auto Rebuilders based on the yelp reviews... YAY YELP! Anyway, didn't need an appointmet... drove over and Dick came out to have a look. He rubbed out the scratches, checked the dents and proclaimed her 'cured'. He said that if it were him he would not invest in doing anything with them (and after he rubbed them, the scratches that seemed so deep and ugly were gone) and the dents practically unnoticeable. It would have been easy to convince me that I needed to have these repaired (I actually tried to convince HIM of that fact!) but he wouldn't hear of it.... so of course, if I ever do need REAL auto body work, these guys are my guys. After looking at the car, Dick spent a few minutes talking with me about his business, his guys (who've all been with him a long time), his family and his fishing! A very very friendly and nice guy.... and a great start to my weekend after I ended my week fretting about having to cover the cost of the repair bill....! read more

I was in a four car accident on the Edens that was NOT my fault. The entire driver's side of my 2006 Cadillac DTS was smashed. Because of how great the service this business provided, I decided to write my first review. I got my car serviced a year ago. The price was reasonable and the work was immaculate. Recently I noticed the paint felt off so I took it back. The thing was the paint didn't fall off. Dick told me that someone had hit my car without my notice and the entire bumper is scratched. Took my Chevy Traverse to Dempster Auto Rebuilders after my car was in the way of a large tree limb falling to the ground. Just had the side view mirror knocked off and a couple of dents in the door. Dick and his team did a tremendous job with the entire process. First, the estimator was very quick and thorough in writing up the estimate. They clearly explained the next few steps including how to get the Rental Car set up with Enterprise. The shop originally claimed they needed 3 days to repair....but they did a great job and got it out in 2. I was very pleased to have my car back a day early. And their work was impeccable. They had vaccummed my interior and gave her a nice exterior bath as well. I will definitely refer my friends to Dick and his team. read more

This is exactly the kind of auto repair shop you want: they're honest, fair, quick and reliable. I came here for a second opinion after having gotten an exorbitant quote for some minor paint touch-ups from Gerber, on Skokie Blvd. The second opinion I got was that it wasn't worth spending the amount of money Gerber had quoted me, and Dempster Auto Rebuilders offered to do what they felt was justified given the value of the car, for what amounted to 10% of Gerber's quoted price. I picked the car up on a Saturday, when they were closed, and they told me I could stop by and settle the bill at my convenience. Couldn't recommend this shop strongly enough. Did not think this type of business existed anymore. Will be recommending them to everyone I know. read more

Walked in to get an estimate, the old guy came out to look at it and said $500. I said I had a new fender at home and would that help reduce the price and he started to grumble under his breath and make rude comments. I asked if he always acted like this in front of his customers and he apologized. After his apology he went right back to grumbling and complaining, so I took my business elsewhere. Apparently they have enough business where they can abuse their customers. I refuse to put up with their abusiveness and unprofessional behavior. read more

What a great experience today at Dempster Auto Rebuilders! I came in with a major scratch...my fault, those damned Chicago parking garages. So I arrived expecting the worst, and the guys at Dempster Auto were able to buff out the scratch, leaving just a few barely visible lines down to the primer. No appointment and the whole thing took about 15 minutes and cost only $20. I've since moved down to the city, but I will likely come back to Dempster Auto if I ever need help again (let's hope not...) read more

Someone sideswiped me and damaged my driver's side mirror on my 2004 Saturn Ion pretty badly. Dempster Auto Rebuilders looked at it on a Monday, ordered the replacement part which arrived Thursday, and replaced the mirror in about 15 minutes while I waited on Friday. Very friendly service. The whole thing was just under $200 but most of that was the part. (The entire power mirror needed to be replaced.) I was worried since Saturn went out of business, but getting and installing the part was no problem for these guys! read more

Yes, an idiot sliding back on an uphill while waiting for traffic light. You how how frustrated I was...a two weeks new car. I came to here based on the yelp review plus DAR is also a State Farm contracted shop. I was new to this country and this area, really had o idea how this goes. Dick walked me through whole process. Turns out he is trust worthy! After two days, he gave me a car just like new! I wait for more than half a year to write this review. The work is sturdy and no having any problem so far. Plus I met my neighbor when I went to pick up my car. So I know that this is a shop trusted by locals. Highly recommended, don't have to worry about been ripped off when repairing car. Phil is great. I had an accident involving a skunk and a cement curb (long story) that took my car door off the hinges. No fun as I was just about to leave town for a 4 hours road trip. Upon return, they lifted the door for $10. Ultimately this resulted in damage to the wheel casing so I have to have more work done. But these guys have been nothing short of fantastic in their support. I highly encourage anyone to start here. You won't find better service and an honest assessment. While I'm disappointed lifting the door alone didn't remedy the problem, they gained my trust and I feel like I have a trusted partner to help me survive the trials and tribulations that is driving in the Windy City. read more

I have had two experiences thus far with Dempster Auto Rebuilders. In general, they are quick, affordable, and accommodating. Unfortunately, I'm writing this review because the second job I sent their way revealed very sloppy work. The first job I gave them was to repair extensive hail damage to my brand new car. They were quick to provide the estimate, very accommodating with scheduling the work, and did an excellent job overall. After the job was completed, you couldn't tell there had ever been hail damage. When I later had a hit-and-run happen to my side mirror overnight (i.e. I came out in the morning and my mirror had been smashed off the curb side of my car), I was happy to give D.A.R. Inc. my repeat business. Again, they were quick to provide the quote and the labor estimate was delightfully low. They ordered the mirror immediately and did the work just a couple of days later, while I waited. Unfortunately, their work this time was very sloppy, especially considering that this is a new vehicle. There was grease left inside my car from the worker, both on the door panel and on the upholstery, and when they pried off the interior door panel to connect the mirror to the controls, they damaged the panel with their tools and didn't even mention it to me. Owner Dick Peach had also volunteered during the estimate to buff out the exterior scratches created when the mirror was smashed off, but when I picked up the car after the work had been completed, no buffing had been done and the scratches remained. I asked about this and he took care of it on the spot, but he didn't mention the interior. On the drive home, I noticed the mess and the damage to the interior door panel. I had taken a good look at the work done from the outside, of course, but hadn't thought to check the work inside, as well. Very disappointing, especially after such good service up until that point. I'd be hesitant to give them my business again, which is a shame because their location is convenient and they had been so nice. In general, I'd recommend them, but don't forget to inspect their work carefully before you drive off. read more

I recently needed some minor body work done on my 2010 VW EOS . The car looked like it came off the showroom floor when they were done with it. I have interacted mainly with Dick who has always been fantastic and trustworthy. This past week I had trouble with my electric window. I got quotes from the dealer and another mechanic which were ridiculous. Dick gave me a quote that was very reasonable.
