Excellent Catering Organization last Weekend. Funeral , but it was a Irish send off. The food, deserts were magnificent. Plus before dealing with Star Catering, I had a very San Franciscan, sandwich and salad at the Cafe. Very good Quality. Plus I grabbed some treats on the way out. No brainer repeat performance in the near future since after 67 years old everybody is crossing the rainbow. Micky Cancer plus Hospice "SURVIVOR" read more

I recently had the pleasure of working with Star Catering and Cafe for an event where we needed 20 boxed lunches, and I can't sing their praises enough! From start to finish, the experience was exceptional. First off, their customer service was outstanding. They were incredibly responsive and accommodating to our needs. The quality of the food was top-notch. Each boxed lunch was beautifully presented and packed with delicious, fresh ingredients. From the sandwiches to the sides and desserts, everything was nicely presented and delicious. They thoughtfully bagged the tomatoes and onions separately from the sandwiches so they didn't get soggy and so that people could choose to add if they wanted. Not only was the food delicious, but the portion sizes were generous, ensuring that everyone left satisfied and happy. The variety of options were great and well suited to our diverse group. On the day of the event their communication was prompt and they actually took the initiative to follow up with us when we were running late to ensure everything was still ok (thank you!). Overall, I can't recommend Star Catering and Cafe highly enough! I wish I could add photos but the food was gone by the time I remembered! read more

This place is awesome man with good people working here. Got a breakfast sandwich that wasn't even on the menu. Ken said no problem I make it for you. Love supporting new business owners. Give them a try! read more

This place is amazing. 5 star food at 2 star prices. Their main business is catering so they are able to sell food really cheap and their specials are amazing too!! read more

Wow! What an amazing hole in the wall! I was recommended here by my coworker. I tried their special gyro (I believe their specials change daily not too sure) but it was huge! I was in food coma afterwards. The space is super clean - which is a huge deal for me. Not only do they serve food here but they offer catering services! I will definitely be using them for future catering services for my events. They have a huge variety. On top of all of these great points the customer service was super friendly. Checked all my boxes :) read more

I use to go to Star Catering all the time because the sandwiches were fantastic. See below the sandwich for $7.85 before the "New Management" took over and then see it after with no mest and and a new price if $10 and some change....I will never go back!!!# read more

Wow! Wow! Wow! I had the honor of serving their Holiday plates to families that are in Crisis and underserved. THE GREAT FULL APPRECIATION FROM THE RECIPIENTS WAS SUCH A BLESSING, THAT I WISH STAR CATTERING COULD HAVE SEEN THE JOY IT GAVE OUR HOSPICE PATIENTS AND FAMILIES!! Furthermore, I had 2 extra plates that I ate myself and I will say it was absolutely delicious and Perfect!! What ever you guys are doing, please continue to make your food with Love and these wholesome flavor combinations. I am wishing I had more of your Thanksgiving Meals!! Best wishes, Aron Merrell and Family read more

Nothing special about the sandwich, it had a decent amount of meat on it. It was not bad, but it was not great. Real stiff employees it seems (my first time going in). I must say I did not expect to pay over $5 for half a sandwich and a small drink, that did not even come with a pickle or slice of orange. I will not be back again. I will go up the street to Pick-A-Deli instead, I enjoy the sandwiches and do not feel like I am being ripped off. read more

This place is too conditioned and spoiled. Business for them is automatic so that's why the customer service is so garbage. This place is lucky they're in the location they are in. Workers Galore. Otherwise they would be out of business. They only get business because it's in theindustrial area and business ppl/workers don't bring their lunch. This place is just basically "OK". Customer service is horrible. Where are the happy ppl at in this place! No smiles at all from the cafe workers. They look at you if its a burden to them when you come in and order. Funky ass business hours. Limited parking and it's in a small business strip with parking. One lady look like she lives a few doors down at the trailer park. Other lady moves real slow like she's preparing gourmet food. A little pricey but sandwiches are ok(Tuna is what I ordered). That's why I gave a 2 star. Small selection of chips and beverages. Better than Subway and Quiznos. Clean small place. Honestly, I prefer Togo's off top. You get service with a smile and great bigger sandwiches at a better price at Togo's. Like I said before, lucky they're in the area they in. Sometimes I have no choice to eat here because time is against me while me being at work. I'm pretty sure this the case for the other customers. I wouldn't recommend this place. Avoid if you can. read more

My normal lunch spot when I've forgotten to pack lunch. Just down the street means they are a quick walk and a bit of fresh air. They've got a great variety of sandwiches and salads to choose from, and much better quality than any surrounding fast foods. The expanded menus on special days keeps lunches interesting. Great sandwiches! The place is under new ownership and you can tell the new owners are really working to improve the food and overall quality of this place. read more

Ever since this place was sold, the new workers are totally clueless about making the right order. on couple occasions i had to drive back and request to have the right sandwich made. make sure to check your order before leaving this place. in addition the prices are higher, which i did not mind, the portion is smaller and I accepted it, but lousy customer service was not acceptable. the new owner needs to hire qualified worker even if they cost more as he already increased price and reduced portion. read more

Their pasta salad is one of the few that I will eat. The sandwich lunchbox option is super filling. There are two mini things of pasta salad, sandwich with the fixings, a cookie and some candy (this time it was a mint). Star is a go to for catering here locally! read more

I can't attest to their food but one thing I can attest to is their shady business practices. We had placed a catering order for a large meeting we were hosting. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances we had to cancel the meeting and subsequently the order. I was told upfront that there would be a cancellation fee. Totally understandable! They're a catering company and not a restaurant so I know they had to put out money to purchase the items needed to complete the order. Here I am expecting to be charged the cost of the food minus the markup that every company adds on to make a profit. But no, they proceeded to give me a $102 partial refund on a $680 order and then immediately turn around and charge me the partial refund amount as a delivery tip bringing my cancellation fee back up to the original amount of the order. WTF! Totally unacceptable. If you choose to order form these crooks I would be very wary. read more

I live around the area and been wanting to try this place! Would definitely come back, the bf got a chicken club which he completely destroyed. I got the spicy chicken sandwich and it was fried delicious goodness. I love a place with good fries too and they served a good amount which was enough for 2 people to share easily. I know with covid and being in Hayward might be tough but this is a lunch place that would do well in Oakland and San Francisco, definitely recommend. Would have taken a picture but it was devoured in mins lol Owners were very nice as well!! read more

I organized a large event with over 100 people in attendance this past weekend in Hayward. Someone suggested Star Catering, and that was the company I hired. Being my first time organizing an event from start to finish, I was nervous about every aspect, especially the dinner portion. I am so happy I went with Star Catering. First, the food was very good! That's probably the most important aspect of what you want in a caterer. Secondly, they were very reasonably priced. In addition, they were very prompt and had dinner timed perfectly for our event. There was a slight mix up that was simply a miscommunication early on in the planning. That can happen with any business or situation. What impressed me greatly was their willingness to address that issue and do it in such a way that took care of it completely. Through the entire process, Krish was fantastic. He was friendly, professional, and I will no longer feel nervous when I need catering again. I will most definitely go with Star Catering again. Kudos to Krish and his staff! read more

This place truly never disappoints! The food and staff are always great, they also do catering which I plan to use in the near future. This visit I had the Greek chicken bowl, my husband had the burger and fries, both were delicious. Everything was very clean, will definitely keep supporting this small local business. read more

Wow, Star Catering made it so easy for me! I'm so busy and it was my week to bring breakfast for our department. I wasn't sure how I was going to get everything done until I called Star Catering. With one simple call there was a beautiful breakfast spread delivered, on time. Krish was very accommodating and took care of everything. Now, I'm getting texts from all my co-workers telling me how wonderful breakfast is and thanking me. One text said, "Wow, thanks!" another, "Soo yummy!" and another said, "what a delicious treat!". Star Catering was so professional and nice to work with, thank you! read more

An Incredible Retirement Party was catered by Star and everyone was IMPRESSED with the abundance & quality of food! We received quotes from many other caterers but Jerry Sousou at Star went above & beyond what we expected with an outdoor BBQ buffet for 40 of our staff honoring a retiring employee. Lick smacking ribs, chicken and sausages that rivaled any local restaurant along with so many home made side dishes. On time delivery, set-up and professional serving staff definitely makes this a 5-Star Catering event worthy of their name. read more

I had a really good first experience with Star, so I decided to use them for a company event. I told the owner, Krish, what my budget was for a specific amount of people and he was extremely attentive and helpful. The food was fantastic! I ordered 40 half sandwiches that came with a heaping side of Cesar salad and potato salad, the fruit platter and a cheese tray that came with crackers. You could tell the fruit was fresh--it was all gone in a matter of seconds. The packaging was awesome (I'm a sucker for packaging)! It was the best decision I could have made! Thank you Star Catering! You have made a customer for life! read more

I like star. I really do. The employees are nice and the sandwiches are delicious. However this is probably the third time that I found hair in my sandwiches. My coworker also happened to find a live bug in his this time around. I stopped going here for about a year now and forgot why I stopped going. My coworker suggested we go there for breakfast and I said sure! But now I remember why I stopped going and it was because of the hair in my sandwiches. read more

We needed help catering a party on short notice, and Star Catering saved the day! Krish was so easy to work with and super helpful. I loved that they had ideas for popular kids' food, as our party had kids and adults. The food was delicious and the cook and server were wonderful - I highly recommend them! read more

Man do I miss Star cafe. Now that we are in Salem finding a good deli / cafe seems to be impossible. I remember going in for lunch at the cafe and having wonderful meals, especially the soup. Our family used Star for many special occasions (birthdays, anniversarys, party's) and even for Thanksgiving one year when we had a serious family illness and knew we would be unable to prepare it ourselves. Star prepared everything and delivered it the day before along with all the chaffing dishes and utensils. Even heating up the next day everything was wonderful and their efforts allowed us to enjoy a real Thanksgiving meal even during a very hard time. No matter dining there or having them cater it we never had a bad meal or bad experience. Thanks guys and we miss you :( read more

How: I found this place after four years of rotating Jack In thee Box, Burger King, In N Out, Taco Bell, and Hot Dog on a Stick at lunch during the work-week. My friend made a casual comment about how my junk food diet will keep me very well preserved after I die. This shocked me into kicking the Sourdough Jack and Oreo shake habit. I happened upon Star Catering after passing up the Jack In the Box drive-thru on Industrial/Winton. Why: Star Catering advertises their use of only fresh ingredients in their generously portioned menu items. Get the Sandwich/Salad/Soda combo for $6:40. You get a half sandwich, small salad, and medium fountain soda. Their food is surprisingly good... Fresh, tasty, familiar yet unique recipes. When: Hours to be posted soon. Best to come in before 12pm or after 1:30pm to beat the lunch crowd. Star usually has two employees who take/make the orders. Who: Hayward's finest: Businessmen, construction workers, warehouse employees, and medical aids eat in or take out on any given day. read more

This place was awesome! Was around the corner getting flyers printed and needed to kill some time. Went in, was immediately greeted by a warm smile. Couldn't figure out what to order so asked the girl at the front what she recommends. Couldn't have been more satisfied with my turkey pesto sandwich! It was perfect. Definitely recommend. They also have FREE WiFi, which helped me out. read more

I stopped by Star for a quick lunch while I was in the area meeting up a friend. We wanted something quick and simple so we decided to look for a sandwich spot and it turned out to be really yummy! First, i would like to say "Charlie" the owner is great. He is a nice man and makes sure that your food is fresh and your are happy. It is a deli and he caters too. He has catered for me on several occasions and I have no complaints. The food is always fresh and delicious. You pay for the quality of the sandwich and at the same time you are supporting small businesses. I am always in support of that. I don't think it expensive. He also offers diabetic desserts. I haven't tried it yet. But i love the idea. The staff is always pleasant. Keep it up! read more

Best Sandwich in Hayward! I've been to the Star Deli a few times now and have never disappointed. I've had a couple of different sandwiches and salads, and the home made potato chips(when available) are out of this world. If you have not been here, don't wait. Go get a sandwich. I am making this my regular spot. Oh, and the prices are great! read more

Ever since the original Vasiliki's closed, I have been forever mourning and longing for my heart and soul, the ever escapable French Dip. Well this tale is of the journey and discovery of the greatest treasure of all sandwhiches. My mom had to get her air conditioning fixed in her car. So we went to our tried and true Insta-Lube magicians. They said that they would see what was up with the car and with the wise advising from the wizard Nguyen, we began the 5 minute (but in the heat and with an empty belly fresh from school, it felt much longer) trek towards the Banquet Hall that was recommended. Star Catering and Cafe. Upon entering the little hole in the wall, we were instantly surrounded by the wise words of many proverbs and wise actors (my favorite was the Italian Proverb- "Rice is born in water, and must die in wine"). I was not expecting much when I saw a French Dip, so my mom and I agreed that we would share sandwhiches. So upon ordering the Gyro special, French Dip, and Split Pea soup, we sat down in a corner. The Gyro was one of the most delicious gyros I have ever tried, and I have been around. I have tried Olga's gyro (one of the best- gone but not forgotten) and traditional Middle Eastern restaurants. Even the Greek Festival! But this Gyro beats them all like a glass of wine beats a king at a red wedding! (Anyone? LOL!) The split pea soup is the best in the Bay Area. Leave Anderson's in the middle of nowhere, this split pea soup tastes like peas. Delicious, mouth watering, that will scald your mouth in your hot persuit to eat more. Now lastly to my beloved French Dip. It was delicious! The best I have had in a long long time. Juicy steak, bread that soaks up the Au Jus, and the Au Jus!!! THE AU JUS WAS PLENTIFUL! When I unwrapped the paper, the cheese stuck to the paper in such a delicious display of diary deliciousness. Delicious delicious DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! I love this place, I will be back, and I think everyone should know about the beauty that is this place. But if you go, could you get me a French Dip pretty pleasee?!?!! read more

I remember now why I stopped going to this place for lunch. I just ordered a french dip and brought it back to my office with me. Three bites in and I can't stand to eat another because the au jus is so ridiculously salty. It's bullion broth so of course its going to be salty but this is more than I can stand, yet without it its just dry bread with dry meat on it. It's all going in the garbage. It's been a couple of years, but I used to order the BLT which was fine, I remember the lettuce and tomato being very fresh and tasty, and the turkey sandwiches were pretty good too but it's all so overpriced. I won't be going back. read more

I have eaten here on and off for the last 15yrs. Highlight was the decent amount of roast beef, plenty of leaf lettuce and tomatoes on the sandwiches and their home made chips were delicious!!Just had a roast beef sandwich on sliced sourdough as I usually do and I have to say I was disappointed. Something changed here. Less beef, and one leaf of lettuce. I wish they go back to their old receipe of hearty delicious fresh deli sandwiches. One more thing, if you are making sandwiches, you shouldn't be ringing people up and getting whatever stickiness on the bags which you put the sandwich into. I believe you are supposed to wash your hands, change gloves etc read more

I visit Star Cafe for lunch about 3 times per week. Their ingredients are super-fresh, and everything I've had has been high quality. I can't get enough of the Chinese Chicken Salad - which is a salad I've never really been a fan of before Star. It's amazingly good. The sandwiches are usually piled high with meat, the roast beef is awesome. About every month or so, they have an outdoor BBQ with various meats, potato salad, corn on the cob, cookies, etc. for a really good price. I'm a big fan of the place - it's clean, the staff are friendly and work really quickly. I've recommended it to my company's CEO - who is now hooked as well! read more

Accidentally found this place! :) Ingredients taste fresh on my Tuna sandwich.. And home made style Chili was very nice.. I will be back for another time for different sandwich and soups! read more

Star Catering saved our lives. Our home in Fremont was for sale, and we were renting in Sacramento waiting for it to sell so we could buy another when the saddest, most unthinkable thing happened; my mother-in-law died unexpectedly. Between Grissom's funeral home and our realtor's office, we were frazzled. We knew we wouldn't be able to prepare food for the reception, so I looked online for a caterer. I found Star Catering AND THANK GOD I DID! I reviewed the menu, ordered a variety of trays, chose a delivery time, and paid ALL ONLINE. I even changed the order to pick up because I realized I couldn't guarantee a delivery window with no issues! Here's the best part: the food was ready and prepared to order, beautifully laid out and transportable, included napkins and plates and utensils to serve, and TASTED DELICIOUS! The wraps, cold cuts, tea sandwiches, fruit and vegetable trays were devoured. The dessert tray almost started a fight until they noticed the cookie tray! The food easily serves 40-50 people and cost around $500 - well worth it! It was stress free and easy clean-up. I will DEFINITELY use them again. Trust me, you should, too. read more

I love the staff, great mother daughter team. Foods not bad either . They provide hearty portions.

This is the second time now I have ordered lunch for meetings at my office and I received quite a few compliments on the lunch. I've ordered a mixed sandwich tray, assorted drinks chips and cookies, and it came with a huge salad as well. Plenty of food and very fresh and tasty. The order was ready for me when I arrived, and all boxed up to take with me. I will definitely order from Star cafe again. Staff was friendly and helpful. read more

I work at a large manufacturing facility in Hayward and had to order lunch for a staff meeting for 12. I placed our order on-line. The ordering process was relatively smooth. I decided to write a review due to the good service and the good food. We ordered their Xpress Boxed Lunches, sodas and one Cobb salad. I ended up calling Star Catering a few hours before delivery to add on the salad, due to a last minute dietary restriction. They were very accommodating with my request. It was convenient and I was surprised to get an email with up-to-date information about the delivery (i.e. on his way, he had arrived). This made it easy for me to make sure I met him at our front door/lobby. We will definitely go back to Star Catering for more of our events! read more

We have used Star Catering for quite a few years for our annual Dinner/Dance. I love Charlie's enthusiasm for creating a menu that folllows the theme of our event. Not sure about their in-house dining options, but their catering is sub-school cafeteria grade. Imagine a boston market with less flavor and more gravy. I never would have imagined turkey slices floating on top of a bed of gravy, but all things are possible with enough cornstarch.. read more

So after many times of having to place orders here for business lunches i have finally had it. Everytime i place an order (simple turkey plain sandwiches) i get someone on the other end that is unbelieveably rude and huffs and puffs when i ask for the lettuce and tomatos on the side. When i go in to pick up the sandwiches they are understandably rushed with one person making them, one cashiering, and a million people behind me. The woman infront of me places her order and sits and waits. I pick up mine and sit to the side while waiting for my friend to finish her order. After about 10 minutes of waiting, the woman inahead of me asks when her sandwich will be done and the cashier turns and says they have to finish the phone orders before they start on hers. Its was then that we noticed that they do not wear any gloves when they make the sandwiches and the cashier did not wash her hands before turning and starting to maker another sandwich. I will NEVER be eating here again!! read more
