We recently moved to the area from CA. We had a cake lady there that we loved. She had done all of the cakes for our celebrations, so I was sad knowing she couldn't do my daughter's first birthday cake. You guys, this place absolutely killed it. I wanted something simple for her cake as it would be just for her. I emailed back and forth and Lisa was kind enough to answer every single question I had. I got her cake ordered and then we had to cancel her party because of COVID. I called and they said "let us know when you'd like it. We can keep the order". When we rescheduled her party, I called again and they said "no problem. It'll be ready". I was NOT disappointed. Not only was it perfect and exactly what I wanted, but it was adorable and it tasted amazing! My girl ate more of it than I expected her to. After the first bite her eyes got big and she went back in for more. Thank you, Star Cakes, for making my daughter's first birthday perfect. This cake was everything I wanted. And after the year we've had even something as simple and small as this cake was exactly what I needed. We're moving to Ozark soon but this will still be our cake place. Thankfully it's not far. In town and needed some goodies to take back to Saint Louis on Monday - looked up this local bakery and ordered a custom 6inch Red Velvet with a random mix of a dozen cupcakes. Things to Note: 1) Very friendly and accommodating staff. Ordered a cake on Friday and they got it done for me when it opened Monday AM. They even wrapped the cake so it wouldn't dry out during my travels. 2) No-premade cakes, you need to order it in advance. Cupcakes are premade and you can choose a variety. 3) Best cupcake is the Salted Carmel. Complete winner. 4) Known for the Red Velvet w/ Cream Cheese - but I'm not a red velvet or cream cheese fan, but the group liked it. I do think it was too sweet for my preference. 5) Happy Hour for cupcakes during the week. Buy 1 get 1 free w/ the inventory that is left! 6) FYI - downtown location is closed. So this is the thing, I'm not a cupcake person or sweets in general. But when there is a birthday or any type of celebration - it is silly not to celebrate with cake and a beautiful one! I have used this Bakery for several events I've planned. This time I had requested a mermaid cake and sent a few inspo photos but let them do their thing. I was BLOWN AWAY. it looked even better than I had anticipated. Everyone was wowed! It was seriously too pretty to even eat. Plus it was absolutely delicious. The pictures don't even do it justice. My family and I were just coming through town for one night. That night happened to by my oldest son's 21st birthday. We really wanted to get him a cake but, breezing in at 7 or so, it wasn't going to be that easy to find anything in a town that we did not know at all. Found Star Cakes online and gave them a buzz. The owner offered to make the delivery to our hotel himself after closing as, "It's right on my way home from work." Super nice. Great service. And the cupcakes were delicious! Fantastic cupcakes with a great staff!! I went in last minute to request a single custom cupcake and Star Cakes went above and beyond my expectations. I wanted a cupcake with the playstation logo as a going away gift for a friend. The decorator took my challenge and said she could have it ready in 30 minutes. I came back, it was finished on time and looked AWESOME. My friend loved it. Thank you so much Star Cakes!! All the cupcakes are great but I HIGHLY recommend the milky way cupcake if you haven't tried it before. We stopped in to check out the shop because we were next door, and well who doesn't love cake? Nice little local shop with a decent selection of cupcakes. You also have to give props to this business for recycling their boxes, and donating week old cakes to local shelters. Because we were full of ice cream we decided to get 2 cupcakes, and split them. I was excited to see a bacon cupcake I feel not nearly enough people make them here, and we also grabbed a peanut butter cup one. The bacon definitely tasted like maple syrup and bacon, the texture of the batter seemed a bit odd, and I felt it tasted more like a breakfast muffin than a cupcake; it would be truly great with an over easy egg inside. The peanut butter cake was great, rich with chocolate, and peanut butter. The cake itself was as moist as it gets, absolutely as fantastic cake I highly recommend it. The staff was very friendly, and the owner proud of his business. If you're in the mood for a cupcake on that side of town swing in and grab one. Reasonably priced for a gourmet cupcake. read more

Lisa at Star Cakes Bakery made our wedding cake for 10/10/2020. We met her at a wedding expo and had a beautifully set up tasting and consultation at her storefront. We met with two other local bakeries and chose Lisa because of her professionalism and skill. She was between the other two bakeries in cost. After our initial meeting, all communication was done through email (my preferred method). Everything from Lisa was clearly stated and done in a kind and professional way. When COVID hit, Lisa was absolutely incredible in working with us to modify our order. She went above and beyond to make our experience easy and stress-free. We had an out of town event and she packaged our cakes with care to make the trip. Everything traveled beautifully and the cakes were stunning and delicious. Lisa was quick to respond, friendly to interact with and an expert in her field. We will be life-long customers. Recently bought a birthday cake for my wife and it was the hit of the party. The cake was very moist and the frosting was delicious. One of the things I like best was that the frosting was not so thick that it took away from the cake flavor. I was not specific on the style of decoration and was quite pleased with how beautiful the cake was styled. Not good at all for something nice on the fly. I'm sure there cakes are good, but I got the impression they are way over there heads, and too busy to fit you in. I was looking for a small cake that feeds 4 people for my daughter wedding. I had no guidelines at all for cake and they still brushed me off. I love cake. I am a huge cake fan, let me tell you. I've never had to force myself to politely finish a cupcake before, but that's what happened at my friend's birthday party. The cupcakes were chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting. The cake was so dry and dense that it reminded me of corn bread. It wasn't flavored well at all. The chocolate frosting just tasted like sugar and didn't have a buttery or chocolatey flavor. I have had samples from their downtown location and can say that this appears to be their recipe, as I had the same experience there. I've never ordered from them directly, which is why I gave them 3 stars. The staff at the downtown location were nice, but I never dealt with the Republic Road location directly. I'm sure they're kind people, I just can't get behind these cupcakes. They're really bad. read more
