I have been taking my 2005 BMW 545 to the dealer since we got it in 2008. The car has low mileage, but always has many of the warning lights go back on after almost every service, including the check engine light. The dealer has never addressed this issue for us, although we bring it up every time. I decided to try Star Auto and Edwin, since I was looking for a local place after our warranty ran out, and he has such greats reviews. Well the reviews are true. Edwin told us we had a lot of minor oil leaks, but nothing that was too damaging, however since there were dozens of "computer messages" stored in our car and he could not sort out what the key problem is. He asked if we could drop the car off, the next time that light came on. The next day... the check engine light was on again... so we made an appointment the next week. He assessed the issue in the computer, found out exactly what caused the light to go on... and fixed that specific issue.. and it's been 3 days... and the light is still off. 5 years with this issue with the dealer, and never the type of clarity Edwin figured out in one visit. Thank you..! read more

I want to give another 5 stars review to Star Auto. Today, I took my car 2003 Porsche to replace the front bumper lip. They removed the old lip and replaced them with a new. They spent roughly 45 minutes, and did not charge me a penny. Which repair shop will do so in this day and age. As a note, I had taken the same car to them to replace the hydraulic lifters for the rear spoiler. They charged me parts and labor $2980. I got an estimate from European Auto in San Ramon for $3300 + tax ( the part is for about $2700 from the dealer, I am sure repair shop get a discount ). I would say if you have a European car and it is out of warranty, try them out and see for yourself. Just compare their prices from other repair shops. I do not have any affiliation whatsoever with Star Auto. I am just impressed and humbled with the quality of work, service, honesty and prices. read more

OMG, The last HONEST & FAIR AUTO REPAIR SHOP!! Honestly, I used to cringe at the thought of having service done on my C230 Mercedes. Always hearing nightmarish stories from people who've taken their cars to the stealer-ship, paying insane labor costs, etc. The idiot ex frustrated me to no end throwing his cockamamie 2 cents in as to whatever he thought my best approach would be -- ( always the WRONG way). I took my car to Edwin at Star Auto on the recommendation of a friend of a friend. Not only is this guy a Mercedes expert through and through..he is straightforward and HONEST. There are so many cool things this guy has done... The one that stands out most is his suggestion of how a costly repair could possibly be deferred by applying a "fix" that just might take care of the problem. I was stunned to hear such fabulous words come from an auto mechanics mouth!! I'll never take my Benz to anyone else! The service, friendliness and thoroughness of the technicians exceed my expectations every time! read more

Just took my car in for a routine service and had another great experience. A few years ago I was fed up with the cost and service at the Mercedes dealerships. The customer service was never consistent and it always seemed like they were trying to squeeze more money out of me. I've been taking my car to Edwin for a few years and it's the best decision I've made. From everything to routing services to more complicated jobs, Edwin is always honest about assessing your needs and discussing what is recommended/required versus what can be done at a later date. The costs are always a fraction of what you pay at the dealer and other shops and all the techs are certified. I don't usually take the time to write reviews, but these guys have been great! read more

I have been going to Star Auto for the last 15 years letting Edwin and Gonzalo and the entire group of mechanics service and repair my cars (BMW, Jaguar, Lexus and Mercedes). My experience with Star Auto is nothing short of pure perfection, caring, five star service and very knowledgeable about cars. They go beyond what is customary and always look into other issues with your car. They are extremely honest and will treat you right even when you have problems away from the shop. They will make sure you are safe and assist in getting your car towed to shop. Also any questions or concerns they are always available to answer questions. The only regret I have about Star is they are not located in the San Diego area, we moved away and to find someone as trustworthy and knowledgeable take time or may not never happen. My wife and I had a couple of issues since moving away, we called Gonzalo and he sent the part overnight to the technician working on the repair. We also ran over something in the road and the part was stuck under the car, we were very afraid the part could cause engine damage, we sent Gonzalo a picture, he evaluated the part and assured us the part was not part of the car. We found out later he was correct. This is why I am writing this review, you do not get this type of service from the dealer or a typical repair shop. These guys are exceptional and care about their customers. Whenever we are in the Bay Area and our cars need servicing, Star Auto is our go to place for all auto repairs and to stop by and say "Hi, keep up the good work" . Rodney P read more

Best service I have ever received from car mechanics. I won't try any other shop for car repairs. Gonzalo is the best.

Edwin has a team knows Mercedes. He has a small shop, quick turn around and fair price. He fixed one problem with $700 less than dealer estimation. read more

Took my Mercedes for a routine service this morning and I was blown away by the service I received. I was only there for about an hour, I did make an appointment and I highly recommend that because they get very busy. Edwin is a true professional, has clear passion for his work with cars, and is very straightforward and honest. If you want a great deal and excellent service without any BS, go to Star Auto. read more

Edwin is the MAN!!! I had heard through others that Star was great. They were right. I just got off the phone with him and told me the repairs would cost X... If I had gone to the dealer it'd have been 2X at least and best of all he pointed out things the dealer missed, and rectified the problems in a real "common sense" way. Star has my vote for best MBZ service in the East Bay, you can't go wrong here! :-)) read more

I'm SO glad I found Star Auto here on Yelp. I called Edwin, brought my car in 10 minutes later and he took care of me right away. It's very clear that his business is booming because he takes care of his clients to the point that we are compelled to write a Yelp review. I don't write reviews very often, but when I do, it's because the business went out of their way to impress me. Edwin surely did and I now know where I'm taking all my vehicles...FOR LIFE! However, I do have one concern. Another yelp review said that he won't take Edwin's lunch recommendation. I can't help but to wonder what restaurant Edwin recommended. LOL! Thanks Edwin! read more

Best Auto service in town. Edwin is very HONEST, accomodating and knowledgable. I am so glad I found this place. Highly recommend to everyone! read more

Have been going here for almost a year. And am always satisfied. Edwin is very friendly, honest and upfront. His technicians are great with Mercedes. He tells me when he is not comfy with certain of my Audi A4 repairs but he is a champ with my Benz. Pros: -------- - Very honest - Fairly priced - Very knowledgeable technicians - Good parts, service and maintenance (stands by his work) - "You get more for what you pay" :) Cons: -------- - ???? - At times hard to get an appointment I highly recommend him for auto repairs. read more

Excellent excellent excellent..5++ stars. I don't review often, but these guys rock. I have a 3 year old Mercedes S550 and a friend recommended Edwin and Tony. I checked Yelp and saw great ratings. I was completely blown away. Outstanding customer service. The prices were way cool and they went overboard in all areas. I will never let anyone other than Star Auto touch my cars. These guys rock. You're in really good hands. Seriously! read more

I am so glad found star auyo. Went a car for a presale auto inspection. The response was quick and the mechanic found oil leaks and transmission leaks in the car. most importantly did not charge me for this service at all. I think he atleast spent 45 min of work. read more

Great experience with Edwin and his team. After using another local mechanic for my Mercedes and getting frustrated with them keeping my car longer than promised or having parts they replaced repeatedly fail, I took my car to Star Auto for them to diagnose. Turns out the other mechanic put the wrong type of transmission fluid into my car, didn't reconnect wiring, used cheap parts and a long list of other bad things that made me mad about how much time and money I wasted at the first mechanic. That being said, Star Auto is fantastic and I highly recommend them for their outstanding customer service, their honesty and integrity, and their reasonable pricing for repair work. My car runs much better now and Edwin replaced my windshield wipers without me even asking. Every time it rains now and I can see out of my windshield, I think of Star Auto and how wonderful they are! read more

Edwin is the best. I won't take my Mercedes to anyone else but him. Great service and great work. I trust Edwin and his staff because he is a honest man. The price of work is very reasonable. I highly recommend this shop for your car. read more

Called Star Auto and spoke to Gonzalo to see if they had time to service my E63. He ask to bring it by sometime between 10-11 the same day. Took it over there and Gonzalo knew who I was and called me by my first name wow what service already. After going through what needed to be service and also what did not. He also told me they will go through the whole car to make sure all is well. Pickup the car that afternoon. All I needed was an oil change way better than the dealership and the best price too. Will take my other Mercedes there too. read more

I went here for a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) for a car I was buying from a private seller off Craigslist. Was hassle free and I got a full written report of all issues with the car and a call from the mechanic. Would use again if I lived closer to this area. No problems. read more

This is the only place I will take my car for service. Edwin is great to deal with and provides honest, fair priced, and reliable service. A friend recommend this shop a few years ago and were they ever right. I couldn't imagine returning to the dealer for service. read more

I spent $400 with Star Auto team and they fixed a problem that BMW dealer told me could not be fixed and wanted to charge me $1200 for parts before labor! I just moved to San Ramon not too long, and it is absolute great to know Edwin and his team. Thanks! Melvin read more

This review is long overdue. I usually don't write reviews but decided today to write one to acknowledge Gonzalo on his excellent customer services. He was so helpful and when I called in the morning to asked about fixing my leak radiator overlow hose that was cause by an oil changer shop that I brought my car to due to my stupidity.., he told me to just bring it in so he could take a look. He was able to get the parts and completed in 1 1/2 hrs while I was down the street enjoying my lunch not only that this place is prompt but they are very knowledgeable and rates are very fair. I will not take my Mercedez anywhere else but here! Thank you for your kindness and thorough work on my baby.. lol read more

On time, on budget and they fixed the problem, what more can you ask for? My Maxima had an O2 sensor problem that needed repair (car was failing smog test), and dropped the car off. They checked to make sure that the o2 really was the problem, gave me an estimate and took care of the problem in a day. I had to drive around a while before my 02 sensor cycled (which they warned me about) and then my car passed smog. The sayved from buying another car, and I couldn't be more grateful. read more

Quick Review of First Time Visit I took my ML320 to the Mercedes Dealer. The issue was an oil leak. True to form, the dealership told me my brakes needed changing... I told them you have sensors for that and the sensors are not triggered. I asked how much more life there is.... They did not measure or could tell me! In fact the dealer told me that the sensor may not be accurate! I asked them then why have it! All in all, I have been extremely disappointed in the local dealer - so decided to go independent I called Edwin and asked him the price of the brake job.. he gave me a quote that was not the lowest, but was 300-400 dollars lower than the dealer! Then I asked him to check the brakes to see when it was time to replace. He asked me to come by (another independent repair shop said it will be 1 hr and cost 150 to check brakes!) and quickly looked it up and told me that I have adequate life and in absence of other issues (like warning on the dashboard etc), he said that we can look at it again in a month or when sensor is triggered I give 5 stars not for the recommendation, but the quick response - when time comes I will go to this shop and write again when i actually get service RB read more

These folks are very knowledgeable and honest. They are very deep in expertise of high end Mercedes-Benz vehicles. They expertly repair my AMG SL55 and are cautious about spending your hard-earned money. Gonzalo is very polite and helpful and really knows his stuff. The ABC suspension system on an SL class MB is very technically complex and they understand it very well. I appreciate their integrity and how they will say "the car will need X, Y and Z the NEXT TIME it is in for service" rather than try to get you to perform maintenance on your wallet. I found my new mechanics for my AMG. read more

Good customer service at first. But then it goes way down after your next service. Made an appointment on my day off. Took at least a week ahead to get it. I came there in the morning, shop couldn't accomodate my schedule. Should have called me ahead. They want me to leave the car for at least 4 hours. They have no shuttle service. I ask if they can call me later that day when they're ready for me. Even wrote down my number. Waited for hours only to find out they never called back. Wasted my time on my day off. I guess I'm not that important anymore. They just lost a customer. I'll look somewhere else. read more

Edwin is honest, knowlegeable. His mechanic is highly trained with BMW's. I took my Porsche Boxter a while ago for a check up and oil change and received great service. They are very trust worthy! I call them for car advice when I need it! Their prices are reasonable and fair! read more

Like most of the customer for Star, I had a great experience as well. Granted my job was simple - oil change. It is hard to put quality valuation on oil change after 1 day but price was definitely lower than anyone else around here. But what I like is the whole attitude here. Both Edwin and Kristin are awesome! They make the auto maintenance experience different. Edwin accommodated me Friday evening. I was done in about 45 min. During that time, I noticed them deal with couple of "interesting" customers as well, which was fun!! I am a believer of the fact that someone with A+ grades (rating here) try harder to maintain than someone who is B or C. Star Auto seems to make every effort to keep customers happy. They have kept the bar high. I am definitely going back to this place, hopefully not too often ;) read more

This is the only place I'll bring my cars. They are so honest, fair on pricing and do high quality work.

Edwin is simply the best! I moved from the peninsula to Danville several years ago and needed a good mechanic for my Mercedes. I would highly recommend Star Auto to anyone looking for a excellent and honest mechanic. read more

We have been going to Star Auto since our 2011 BMW X5 came out of warranty. They have always been fair, honest and done great work on our car, in a very timely manner. We have solely worked with Gonzalo, who has been very accommodating and thorough in his diagnosis of any issues with our car. After previously doing some additional research myself, I know they are extremely fair in pricing for the quality of work they perform. read more

I want to just add to what the many, many satisfied clients have to say about Star Auto. From the owner Edwin, to the manager Gonzalo, to their other service technicians, you cannot find another business or group of people who are more honest, proficient, and courteous. Their diagnosis is always accurate, their estimates and charges are very reasonable, and the repair work they offer and do for you is top-notch. Star Auto has to be the best place to take your ailing car. You might be making a big mistake if you go somewhere else. No one enjoys car problems, but if you have them - as we all do - Star Auto is the place to go with confidence to make you and your car happy again. Gary F., San Ramon read more

I brought in my MB 1999 E430 for and "A" service maintenance. I explained to Edwin what my symptoms were and he quickly told me what I needed to replace. I had did some research on the MB forum website and had a general idea of what the problem was. My wife said the car drive like it was 12 years ago. Who is to argue with your significant other. :):) I was very impressed with Edwin honesty and professionalism. I would not hesitate to recommend his shop to anyone. You will not find any owner/manager as honest and professional as Edwin. read more

I chose this place based on its Yelp reviews and have not been disappointed. Edwin sets the bar for customer service. So far I have come to him with two semi-urgent problems that made my car nearly un-driveable and he's gone out of his way to fix them on the spot or at least same day. He's also eager to get you the best possible price. I love having a place that's effective, pleasant to work with, and that I can trust. A real treasure. read more

Hi Everyone, Last year, the window mechanism broke on my wife's 2001 Mercedes. From my description over the phone, Edwin knew the correct parts to order, and they were installed the next day. Hi, I had taken my 2006 E 350 to Edwin for an oil change. Thought I would also ask about a flush on the power steering fluid. He changed the oil and filter and then did a purge of all contamination in the fluid for no charge. I asked about changing the fuel filters and he said not too. He hardly ever sees one go bad. MD Dealership wanted $500 just for labor so I chose not to do this.Sounded good to me. Next thing was I tried to replace the spark plugs myself which should not have been an issue but the first one I did the coil separated from the wire harness and the connector clip broke too. That ended my try at this. Brought the car in and Edwin repaired the clip, finished the plugs and also replaced a defective cam sensor. Very good prices and I appreciate his professionalism and honesty. I feel like I can take it him and not get screwed. Keep up the good work! Thanks read more

I have been taking my Mercedes for service here for the last 5 years and it has always been done right.
